It was an old piano but he was able to put it together. He went above and beyond trying to get one of the pedals to work. He inspected the piano and its workings. He did get it to work. They paid careful attention to COVID precautions from a virtual tour of our home to determine an estimate, mask protocols, and social distancing. They arrived on time, were very careful with our belongings, pointed out existing damage to items, and suggested home to take care of our new hard wood floors. These folks are best moving company I've ever used. Considering they've been around since 1882, they clearly are doing something right. J.E. Ladd V, the owner of the company, was even there to lend his crew a hand. I've used them once, plan to use them again shortly, and continue to recommend them to my friends. Pros: Professional Staff- I've heard so many horror stories of rude or lazy moving staff. Not these folks! Extremely friendly and customer service oriented. Detail Oriented- Throughout the process they did a fantastic job of watching for fragile items, notifying me of anything that looked possibly scratched before they packed/loaded it, and double checking their work. Nothing was broken and no damage to either properties. Efficient- I never felt that they were wasting time or money. They were going full tilt the entire time they were on the clock. Cons: Nothing! (Yes, really). Just one thing to keep in mind: they are a family company, so if you can't reach them the first time you call, they're probably working a move... so it is DEFINITELY worth leaving a message and trying them again later. read more

These movers are decent. Honestly, I was expecting more when everyone rated them 5 stars. I had them move a one bedroom apartment on the understanding that it won't take more than 2 hours. It did, and I was charged more. The move itself was smooth-ish although I did notice that certain things were dirtier when they arrived. The movers are nice but not warm enough for a 5 star. I had a better moving experience with another company before, so unsure if I will call for another move from them again Update: James from the moving company contacted me and they will refund the difference between what I was told and what the move took. I'm not sure how any of the people got service because I've reached out to them three times already and not one person has reached out to me regarding my incessant request for a quote. 3 weeks ago I used Yelp to get a quote. Nothing. 2 week after that I went directly to the site to request. Nothing. I followed up with a call and left a message. Nothing. Called back a few days later. Left a message. Still no response. Clearly my money is no good. Will be taking my business elsewhere. Update: I received a nice message from the company apologizing for never follow up so I gave them some more stars for that. Best experience ever! Just moved from NYC to NC. I called these guys mainly because I loved their website. They were on time, friendly and efficient. They didn't drag out the move to make extra money. My favorite thing about this experience was the confirmation calls. They would call and make sure it was before dinner so they wouldn't be interrupting a meal. Yes, I'm serious. Everything was handled with care and he even put my heavy 4 post bed together by himself in about 7 minutes. I'm still not sure how he accomplished that. These guys are absolutely amazing. I had read all of the good reviews online, but I was still unprepared by just how fastidious and efficient they were. I've seen other movers just throwing stuff around, but this was totally different. Not a single item in my entire 3 bedroom apartment was damaged, and we had some tough stuff to move. They loaded the truck carefully and professionally - carrying the items down a flight of stairs - drove to the storage unit, and unloaded everything very carefully. I can't say enough positive things about the owner. He is probably one of the nicest, most professional men I have ever met. I was moving from an upstairs apartment to a downstairs apartment, we set up a visit and an estimate. My estimate had a maximum amount that they would not charge me over. I really like this because in the past I have worked with moving companies who charge by the hour and then they end up wasting time. My things were handled with great care, there was no rushing. Can't say anything more than what the other reviewers have already said. I called J.E. Ladd to unload my piano from the moving truck into my new home. Because of all the moving parts around moving out of state, I had to change the date/time several times and Jay was always very accommodating. When he arrived with one other guy to do the work, he offered advise on where to place the piano and contact for a tuner whom Duke University uses. Unfortunately the only response to the quote I requested was a text message asking what floor I was moving to. No further response was provided after I sent that information. I asked to be contacted via email or at the very least follow up with a call. A text message from someone named "Cameron" came across as unprofessional and the lack of response was disappointing. Honestly, I didn't know it was humanly possible to be as upbeat and friendly as these guys were after moving heavy furniture for six hours. Jay and Tony helped us pack up our belongings into pods in our move to the West coast. These guys are prompt, reliable, super efficient, and a cut above any of the other movers we've ever used. The pods we ordered were smaller than we were expecting, but these guys made it work by arranging things to use every square inch of space available in a way that I think other movers just wouldn't have been able to figure out. Jay also came back to haul off a bunch of trash for us, and even brought us some wine! Makes me want to move back to NC just so I can use these guys to unload my stuff!! We just recently moved to Wake Forest from Durham after 40 years of living in the same house. We called Ladd because we had used this company 40 years ago when we moved into the previous house. To say we had a lot of stuff is an understatement! We had boxes and boxes and more boxes. But this group of professional movers knew just what to do with each box, each piece of furniture, and with the piano. They treated us with such care and respect, just as they did the furniture. I waited a little while to write the review until after I had unpacked most of the boxes to make sure we did not have many broken items, and I'm glad to report there was not one single thing broken. Our daughter moved to Wake Forest from Raleigh last year and used a different company that came highly recommended and could not get over the difference in how kind and respectful the Ladd movers were from the company she used. Our loaders back in our old state did a lackluster job, but these guys made a negative situation all better.
