I'm between 3-4 stars. Did a military move from TN to CA The good: drop off/ delivery were on the days they said it would be on, and my stuff got to its destination. However, communication with this company is not good. The instructions they give you say to call 2 days before drop off to confirm a time frame etc. When you call, they're almost not sure why you are calling and asking that. Apparently if you book this online your drop off window is automatically 12am-12am THE WHOLE DAY. I got an estimate for a late morning drop off and the guy came at 7pm so my whole day was wasted sitting at home wondering when they would come. No call from the driver until about 30 min out. Secondly, the bulk head you have to secure in the trailer is heavy, disgustingly dirty and just difficult. I was not able to get it up with my husband so we had to ask a neighbor. So if you're not big/ strong you will struggle with this. Fast forward to the drop off, same thing where they can't give you any time frame it's just any time during that day. We had some damage to our stuff which is expected but what we didn't expect was how DIRTY our stuff got. It looked like bags of dirt got thrown all over everything. We had to try and vacuum and wipe off everything we could before taking it into the house which is extremely inconvenient when you have movers hired and all that going on. We will have to move back to the east coast in the next year or two and I'm not sure if I'm going to use them again. read more

I was anxious to say the least about everything arriving unbroken and I was not disappointed. They are rated top in customer service and gave me one price with no surprises. They delivered the relocubes to South Carolina when they said they would and then had them in my driveway in Tennessee when they said they would. And they patiently answered all of my questions when I called so many times they knew who I was without needing a reference number. UPack was an incredible solution to shipping a small studio apartment's worth of stuff across the country. By offering the option to drop off and pick up my own belongings at the ABF's ports in both cities - this saved me $1000 versus having it picked up and delivered to my true front door which was a fair sacrifice to still fit my budget! (Cross-country move for under $2k was very difficult to find). The ABF ports were a bit disorganized in not knowing where my pod was / having to go find it at both ports, but overall amazing customer service, tracking, price, and my belongings arrived in perfect condition and earlier than scheduled! read more

My experience with ABF in general has been a great one. I rented a 28' trailer for a move from Nashville, Tennessee to Charlotte, North Carolina. From reserving the trailer to its delivery at my new house, everything went off without a hitch. The ABF U-Pack system is such a great alternative to renting a truck or paying movers for transport. The Nashville location in particular gets top marks from me. My house in Nashville has a winding driveway that is at a pretty steep grade. When I first moved in, our moving truck bottomed out, and we had to shuttle loads up the driveway in a pickup truck. I had my doubts about getting a 28' semi trailer up the driveway. When the driver arrived, however, he told me that he likes a good challenge, and he proceeded to use wizard powers of some kind to back the trailer up the driveway. When another driver came to pick up my loaded trailer, he was amazed that the first driver had done such a thing, as he even struggled with just the tractor. Impressive! Worst moving company ever. Stay away. The day we had scheduled the move, we constantly called to make sure everything was set and they assured us that they were so professional and on time. The day we all planned for the truck to be dropped off, we decided on a time between 8AM-12PM. The truck never showed and I called and was told our driver didn't show up and they just forgot to call me or book somebody else to come. I asked when they would be able to drop off the truck since we had multiple people take the day off of work to help us move. We were told by U-Pack that they couldn't give us any time frame and it would just show up whenever. We waited by the front door until 5PM when they finally showed up. No call or warning. I emailed customer service to see if they could do something to help us and they gave us $75 off of the move. We had a certain amount of the truck that we could use and we MEASURED IT and were so detailed to make sure we didn't go over the limit and we did not. Truck is picked up and dropped off at our new home. We unloaded it and called to have it picked up. I looked at my bank statement and I see the amount I was charged was the original price without the discount I was promised. I emailed customer service about this and they said we went 3 feet PAST the original measurement. They had originally quoted us $1257, and then $75 off of that for the hassle. And now they were charging us $1258? Even though they charge you by the amount of the truck you use. So that didn't make any sense. AND we measured the amount we used and we didn't go over. I emailed them for 10 days trying to get this resolved and they kept "reassuring me" they are handling it and will give us a discount because of this hassle and horrible move. After almost 3 weeks, and about 8 phone calls later, they finally did as they promised. (The rep on the phone said they logged my conversation about the discount but never planned on applying it.) Messed up. This company is going to screw you whatever way they can and are extremely deceptive and disrespectful on the phone. I wish I would've read the other reviews because ALL of them talk about how crappy this company is. THE WORST. read more

Horrible company. We used to move and made it very clear to call prior to picking up the storage box as we have dogs. The driver did not call to let us know when they were coming and instead left our gate wide open and let our dogs out of the gate. The guy never shut the gate and left it open causing our dogs to run away. SO HORRIBLE DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS SERVICE. CARELESS AND UNPROFESSIONAL. 1 word, AMAZING!!! This company was amazing for our move from Texas to Tennessee. They dropped it off on a Friday picked up on a Tuesday and dropped off at our new location the following Monday. They were very reasonably priced! Honestly the cost is the same as renting a uhaul and doing it yourself but think about the hassle free of not having to drive that big truck!! The drivers have been so sweet and helpful! The operators were very nice and helpful as well! They call you before they pick up and drop off the trailer! The communication is great! We moved from Washington State to a southern suburb of Nashville. U-Pack delivered the empty trailer in Washington when they said, picked it up when I requested, and delivered it when they said they said they would. They adjusted the price based on actual usage as they said they would. The driver delivering the trailer near Nashville did an excellent job of getting the trailer into a rather narrow space and the load arrived as we packed it (not jumbled around by a lot of bumps and vibration). This was much better than the move we did earlier this year with professional movers as a first wave where there didn't seem to be any schedule and the price was based on their over-inflated assumptions. read more

I have used various different avenues to move....movers(they under-quoted, over charged and lost items), I have moved by uhual(exhausting) and now I have tried U-pack. If I EVER have to move out of state again this will be my go-to and I will tell all my friends. I have had the best experience with this company. They are very professional, friendly and helpful. Was moving from Nashville to Texas.Only issue I had was that they did not come to my apartment complex due to the fact the company could not deliver under covered parking. Recently we moved from California to Franklin Tennessee, after careful consideration with all recommendations we end up hiring ABF UPACK company to move our furniture. Boy we're we mistaking, once the trailer was delivered to my final destination. All of our furnitures we damaged, girls bedroom set completely damaged, from night stands to dressers and mirrors. My son bedroom set also damaged from multiple drawers since he had a box bed frame, night stands and all kids bed frames. To mention our mattress were totally torn and became super dirty after the plastic over the mattresses was also torn. Our freezer bend from bottom corner, dented on multiple sides, scratched from the front. My computer and office desk damaged too. The computer desk was broken from the back panel to the two sides that no longer fit together. Our entire furniture both small to large pieces, our appliances, sofas, love seat and other items completely trashed. You pay $5000 to have a professional move your stuff and you end up getting trash at your destination. After multiple calls regarding purchased supplies and equipments that they should have provided was a sign I should have cut my ties with ABF and UPACK, perhaps I would have had my furnitures now. The drivers drove this trailer like a complete total maniacs without any regard for their customers contents in the trailer. The carrier wood panels broken and off hinges, just laying flat against the trailer roll up door, almost injured me and my helpers when we opened the door to unload. I would not recommend either ABF or UPACK to anyone, you would be better off taking a uhaul truck and moving yourself, it sure won't cost you $5000 and you probably won't end up with nothing but junk. If I could I would have rated both ABF and UPACK a complete -10 stars. It was a horrible experience, I have never had a problem in all my career involving moving across country multiple times. Do yourself a solid favor and don't hire ABF or UPACK you will be better off going with a different company. read more

Had I known the actual process of Upack from the start, I would've never used them. We were told it was a door to door pick up and drop off. As in, leave one home, drive to new location (across the country) and drop trailer to be unloaded. Not stop at x, y, z hubs (especially one that is ENTIRELY out of the way for over a week) and then get a call to schedule your delivery for days later when it makes it to a hub near you. The people I've spoke to KNOW that this miscommunication is happening and even stated "I'm not sure why they aren't transparent from the start". If you want your things in a timely manner when moving across the country, just do it yourself. Won't waste my time with Upack again. read more

I used UPack twice this year. Once moving to TN in a trailer and once leaving TN in 2 Relocubes. I definitely recommend using the Relocubes if you can as they are much easier to load and unload. The staff in the Nashville office was very helpful. The pickup for the Relocubes was a little later than I'd expected but they were delivered on time at all destinations. I will only use UPack for any future moves I do as they stick to their schedule and have some of the cheapest pricing around for the service they provide. read more

I moved out of state (TN to MS) in June. I reserved 2 containers (totaling 5'x10'). My quote was $1200. On the day it was supposed to arrive, I was looking for a UPack container like I had seen online. I was told it would come between 2 and 4, by 5:30 it still was not there. The next day, there was a HUGE trailer outside my apartment. I did not realize it was mine. It was far off the ground, dirty, and far bigger than I needed for my 1 bedroom. As it turns out, it was mine. As a 24 year old female moving by myself, I was panicking - how on earth would I get my things into a GIANT trailer 4-5 ft off the ground?! I ultimately had to hire movers to help. My trailer was dropped off when I was told it would be. However, I was SHOCKED when I had to pay $800 more than I was quoted. I requested 5x10 - but because U-Pack brought be a trailer instead of cubes the size I requested, I was charged for the extra space. I paid $2,000 for the trailer and still had to hire movers on both ends to get my things in and out. read more

*This review is for the "relocube" or pod-like service* I can't say enough good things about the company. When you call--someone answers. And you talk to a human being, every single time. They are polite and helpful. They answer the phones until10 pm. When I went to unpack my relocube, I could tell that in loading and storing my unit, it had never been tipped and remained fully upright (which is sometimes a problem with services like these.) When I opened it, it looked exactly the way it had when I packed it. Yeah...I did a good job packing and tying things down (which *is* your job, not theirs), but that wouldn't have helped if they had tipped the thing over, because gravity is still real. They come when they say they will. When I had to call for them to deliver the cube, they gave me a wide delivery window (noon - 8 pm) because I was in an busy metro area. However, the driver personally called me to give me a 1 hour range, and then called again when he was about 30 minutes away. The pick up/deliver guys who drive the trucks--on both ends, they were both friendly and polite. Not in an obsequious way, but, you know, like normal people who were raised well and are good at their jobs. Finally, if you are considering using storage for your cube/pod, their prices are reasonable. If you ask, they often throw in one month of free storage. They did for me. And, to top it all off, ABF U-pack won on price when I compared it to other pod services. And no hidden fees. What I paid was what they quoted. Not a cent more. I chose ABF because a friend of mine recommended it. I'm glad I took her advice. So should you. read more

Great experience!! After much detailed research (and I mean detailed!), my husband and I decided this was the best option to move cross-country from LA to Nashville and I'm glad we chose them. We love that they charge you based on the space you take up in the trailer (we opted for the trailer not the cubes) instead of the weight. There's a lot of horror stories of people using moving companies and paying hundreds of dollars more than what they were quoted because of the weight of their stuff, and by then it's already packed away in the truck. Also a HUGE plus is they quoted us 6-7 business days but got our stuff there in 4...and then delivered to us the moment we were ready to accept it. Lots of other companies were quoting us 7-10 business days but in the fine print it says it can take up to 21 days, and it gets to people late all the time from what we've heard. Just make sure you're willing to put in the work though cause you pack it up and secure the stuff yourself. If something shifts and gets damaged it was probably your fault. Use lots of rope and padding! I would highly recommend this company to anyone moving across the country. The only reason I didn't give it 5stars was because when we called to have them pick up the trailer after unpacking the person didn't mark it in the system correctly and the trailer ended up sitting there the rest of the week until we called them again. THE WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD! I paid to have movers for both locations. The moving staffers who packed the truck told me twice, I should go and run errands or just relax, they will take care of everything. I asked them to wrap all of my furniture with the 12 moving blankets that I had purchased. They only wrapped the 2 pieces that I could see and shoved the rest in the back of the truck. They stacked boxes so high that they collapsed onto the lower boxes. Because of them not using moving pads and shrink wrap that I had purchased, 2/3rds of my furniture was damaged and ruined. They turned a metal table upside down (which damaged the top) and placed my wooden dresser on top of the metal legs. The legs went thru the dress and bent the metal. I took photographs of everything and filed a complaint..... THE SHADY COMPANY HAS YET TO GET BACK TO ME. BEWARE! read more

Overall it is a cheap way to move. The customer service was ok. When asked questions I felt as if I was annoying them. We rented 5 ft of a trailer and the only way to load it was a ramp that was impossible to use anything with wheels on. So we loaded from The U-Haul and carried, lifted everything in the truck. We packed on a Monday but it didn't leave the facility until late Tuesday or Wednesday. And didn't arrive at my destination until late Friday evening. It ended up taking a week total to get my things as you are not able to pick up things on the weekend. They don't tell you that when you book, you are just supposed to know by reading the fine print. My step dad had to change his flight from Monday to Tuesday to stay and help because they wouldn't let us unload my things on a Saturday because they "didn't have the paperwork". The "paperwork" consists of two sheets of paper that you sign to say you picked it up. Make sure you pack things so they don't rub on each other. Use moving blankets because some of my things were damaged. If I were to suggest ways to improve it would be to allow people to pick up their stuff when it comes in, not wait 3 days to get their things because the "paperwork" isn't printed off. Not like you need people to help unload the belongings, you just need the security guard to have them sign the paperwork. read more

The drivers I talked with, especially the one that dropped off the empty trailer, were very helpful with making sure I understood how everything worked. Worked great for my PCS move, cost was lower than PODS and my stuff made it to me with no damage that can be blamed on U-Pack. I took off one star because the truck showed up a day late. This was actually due to some major winter weather backing things up a bit, which is understandable, but they didn't communicate this with me until the end of the day on the day it was supposed to show up. An earlier heads up would have allowed me more time to make adjustments to my move timeline. My stuff was shipped from Tennessee to Washington state and the little bit of damage was because I didn't wrap stuff properly with thick enough moving blankets and some things rubbed against each other causing some paint and a little bit of wood to be worn away. It would be great if U-Pack offered rental blankets, instead of just offering blankets to purchase that you probably wont use again. I bought some mid-grade blankets on Amazon, but should have spent more money on either extra blankets or thicker blankets. If you go this route for a DITY move, understand that you MUST pack the truck tightly like professionals would. I watched a few youtube videos on it and they were very helpful. Every 6 feet or so I used cargo straps (bought from walmart for relatively cheap) to secure the sections of my stuff, creating walls. Again, watch some youtube videos on how to pack from floor to ceiling creating walls that can be strapped to prevent stuff from shifting too much in transit. If things are loosely packed and you don't secure sections every 6 feet or so, your stuff WILL shift and things WILL break. Also pay the money and get extra blankets to pad your furniture properly. I did minimal padding and now have some furniture with rub marks. There is a LOT of vibration when these trucks travel across the country, so if any two pieces of furniture touch they will rub away if not properly padded. We have moved from California to Virginia and then again from Virginia to Tennessee. The first time we moved (CA to VA) we used a moving company whom I made a separate review, and that was the biggest mistake we could ever have done. If you want a reputable, 1 company-does not broker, you pack/load and unload your self to make sure it is done right company, then ABF Upack is the place for you to call. They are a nationwide company that does all the driving for you. All you do is load it and unload it, and it is cheaper than renting a rental truck with gas, insurance, etc. They charge you by the foot. You originally get an estimated price on an estimated useage. If you use less or more feet, they charge you (or reduce your price) on a preset per foot price. You know exactly what you will be charged per foot before you ever load. If you don't use what you estimated, they reduce the price per foot on that same preset per foot price. So you determine the outcome of the end price by how much feet you use. You will have a minimum and a maximum price before you ever load. You will not be disappointed, they don't charge by weight, just the amount of space you use. The rest of your truck is used by ABF for commercial shippments. So you "share" the cost of the truck. A wall is placed between your stuff and the empty space in the truck. You put the wall up and take it down. ABF does not do anything with your personal belongings, and the empty space is not used by anyother private individual for their stuff, it is only used for commercial shippments. And best of all, you can track your shippment online the entire trip!! Oh, and you can pay them on pickup, or don't pay a dime till it is dropped off. U-Pack is the next best thing to a corporate move and maybe even better (lol). Moved from Tennessee to Illinois and all went as planned. The 2 relocubes were delivered and retrieved on schedule, customer service very friendly and helpful, quoted price was exact so no gimmicks and very affordable. Nothing broken and very much on schedule. Using relocubes allows you to be in control of the flow of the move.Their flexibility with using what you ordered or using fewer cubes is great. We also did not have an exact address till after the cubes were picked up and it was still not a problem. I would recommend U-Pack and I would definitely use them again. read more

I used upack and movers to pack and unpack a small cross country move. A traditional moving company suggested I contact them. For my move which was about 1 bedroom of stuff they were half the price quoted by pack rat and pods. The unit was clean delivered on time and picked up on time. They also arranged the movers on both ends. Pods and packrat give you a number to call and arrange yourself. The movers in nashville were spectacular the movers in philly were more difficult but after a spotty start did a nice job. My only complaint was this moving company failed to change my reservation or make accurate notes about what needed to be done. This was the moving company not upack or the agency that booked them. Upack is a super alternative to tradition movers and seemed much better than the other companies that supply these containers for move. I highly recommend paying for someone to pack the unit. They know how to pack things properly to keep contents safe and minimize breakage. read more

This is second time using UPack for a long distance move. We completely filled up 26 feet of a 28 foot truck. The 9 foot ceiling really makes it nice when you have a lot of boxes. The truck was delivered on time and I was by myself. I had to manhandle the ramp. I would suggest looking on youtube for video instruction as the printed instructions come from another planet. My only complaint is the operation on the plywood dividers that you are supposed to install after you finish loading. They are heavy and bulky. I think I got the ones off my last move because they did not work very well. Caution: if loading or unloading in a strong wind you have to tie these dividers to the wall to prevent them from crushing your body. I suggest a adjustable strap. They should provide them but I guess somebody has to die before they will do anything. Also, I worked a good hour before I had the divider doors in place. It takes a hammer and a lot of patience. Unlocking the divider door also took about 30 minutes and two hammers. Other than that, it was excellent. read more

Love, love, love! My husband and I have moved quite a bit with his job and we have used every moving service you could possibly imagine! Finally move number 9 was the BEST by far!!! We moved from Georgia to Denver last year and we actually hired movers! We were super excited about not having to load and drive all our mess cross country! Worst mistake ever!! They quoted us a pretty reasonable price and after having half our house on their truck they said it would be an additional $4,000! We couldn't do anything but beg family for money and pay it. After a year we were blessed to move back to the south to Tennessee. After the horrible experience with our last move I really dug in to try and find an alternative. Then U-pack came up right here on Yelp. I researched the company and read every review known to man and finally decided to go for it! Best experience ever! Truck arrived right on time and was placed perfectly to make loading a breeze! We were able to take our time loading! That was a biggie for me! After we finished loading it up we were able to secure our belongings with huge bulk heads that we put our own personal locks on. We went online to request a pick up and they were there the next day to pick it up! The truck made it to Nashville before me!!!! I ALWAYS have to wait at least a week and a half for my stuff! I finally made it and my stuff came the next day! Everything was in perfect condition!! Everyone was so incredibly nice and helpful! The cost! I was able to save $8,000 with Choosing U-pack!
