Absolutely awful. Avoid at all costs. I won't go back. Unpleasant interactions and very poor, rude customer service. I had been going to this dry cleaning location for more than 10 years, and the prior staff - before the pandemic - were great. Friendly, accommodating, focused on keeping the customer happy. After the pandemic, the new staff person is extremely unpleasant and unprofessional, snapping at the straightforward questions that I as a customer have a right to ask (because I'm deciding whether or not to give you - or continue giving you - my business). After arguing with me today over a miscount in the number of shirts I dropped off (the ticket reflected the wrong number, and the staff person self-righteously insisted that she couldn't possibly have made a mistake, and scolded me that I was not to argue with her), I absolutely won't be going back. There's plenty of competition in the neighborhood and these folks don't seem to understand -- at all -- how you attract and keep a customer. read more

I just had the worst experience here. If I could give negative stars I would. I've been a customer here since 2005 but I won't be going back. Just a few minutes ago I brought in a couple of items to be repaired and was met with such nastiness that I have a hard time putting it into words. My smile and attempt to establish a friendly exchange were met with open animosity like I had done something horrible to this woman by ringing the bell. After I explained what I needed done and was again spoken to like I was trash I politely packed up my items and left. I will not do business with people that treat me with disrespect. There are a lot of other dry cleaners and I will be finding a new one. I grew up in this area so I am used to what passes for customer service around here. I go here because their service is fast and friendly, they always, always get all the stains out, and they have good attention to detail. I have had a few things hemmed, taken in, and repaired here, with good results, for the same price as other dry cleaners/tailors. There's an older lady and a young lady working here, and the young lady does the alterations. She has a good eye and works fast. She's not the best tailor in town (not sure I would bring in my expensive cocktail dresses, if only because I don't trust many people with them at all, ever), but what she's done has served me well and fit properly, which is exactly what I wanted her to do. She even removed the tag and re-sewed it after the alteration so you can't tell it's been altered. A couple times I have brought things in for dry cleaning and they've found some stray threads/holes/ripped seams and fixed them for free. I don't know if it's because I'm a regular customer or if they're just really nice. They also will accept shoes that need to be repaired. They send them out and get them back within a week. If you drop them off before Friday's pick up, you'll get them back Monday. So that's cool. It's not the cheapest dry cleaners around, but remember: If it's not worth taking care of, it's not worth keeping. EXTRA BONUS COOL POINTS: I left my (nice) bike helmet and (expensive) bike lock there one afternoon because I put them down in order to balance my many hangers/purse/sunglasses and then forgot about picking them up. I'm going to say it first: Yes, they are expensive for a dry cleaner. But they are also organic and do a damn good job. I bought a dress from an online retailer and it was stained. Long story short I got my money back and I got to keep the dress. I didn't want to throw it out, so I brought it in to DC Dry Cleaners (who are just around the corner from my apartment building) to see what they could do. They got the stain out and my dress was saved! I also had them do alterations to the dress, and it fit perfectly afterwards. Although these too were pricey, but from what I understand that is expected of dry cleaners who have good tailors in house. The only thing that bugged me, aside from the expense, and why I didn't give them a full five stars, was that they forgot to do my alterations in time for when I wanted to pick up. The dress was cleaned and ready, but apparently no one had told their seamstress that she was also meant to have it done by that date. Luckily, she did have it ready in time for me to wear my dress on NYE, and it was a huge hit. I will definitely be going back, but might not leave things to the last minute like last time, just in case. read more

No explanation, and when I asked for a list of prices to be better prepared next time, she could not provide one. To me, it's not worth it to spend money at a dry cleaner who ends up just baking in the stains on your clothes because they're focused on quantity to keep their prices low. So, after visiting the cheaper dry cleaner across the street, I decided to spend the money (which was really not that much more) and go here. It was worth every penny. Clothes I haven't been able to wear for a long time because other dry cleaners couldn't get the stains out were magically restored to their original condition. Therefore, if you consider the cost savings of having to replace these pieces, it's a bargin. I also got a bridesmaid dress hemmed here. The "cheaper" place across the street was going to charge me $80 just to hem it. Here, it was $20. read more

Although the women who work there are very nice, being kind isn't enough when their service is less than quality. I have gone there about seven times, and I can no longer reason that the gauging prices are worth the location convenience. $36.80 for a blouse and two pairs of pants.... $18.63 for a shirt and pants is absolutely ludicrous! Twice I got shirts back with large creases ironed into them - that was unacceptable. The final straw was when I brought in an expensive cream blazer to be cleaned for the first time and when I put it on I realized they bleached the sleeves, leaving huge white spots all over. OK, this place does a good job of cleaning my clothes and they use organic products...blah blah blah. My biggest problem with the place is that the prices they charge are OUTRAGEOUS. You cannot get out of here without spending at least $50-$100 on freaking cleaning clothes. I recently had to clean my ENTIRE wardrobe (literally, 50+ articles of clothing), and after calling 5 different cleaners, they were the only one willing to negotiate a "bulk discount" for me. (I was actually shocked no one else offered and lost $350+ of business.) I will also respectfully disagree with the comments about this place being overpriced. Even without the discount they are $1 to $2 cheaper per piece than other locations I called. Their cooperation and friendly staff definitely earned my business permanently. I have only had positive experiences with this place. The ladies who work there are really nice, and they are always willing to turn-around a job in 24 hours instead of their standard 48 (for shirts). I had no idea it was organic (thanks Chitra), but that's definitely a bonus. I thought the prices are totally reasonable, even without knowing that fact. I just picked up 15 men's shirts for $23.00, which doesn't seem bad at all. I've had suits dry cleaned for $6.00 (I think that was for the suit and not just the jacket). If you believe that the customer is always wrong, then you will get along great with the owner of this dry cleaner. Having moved to the neighborhood about six months ago, I have been using DC Dry Cleaners. They are expensive, but generally did a decent (not exceptional) job, and they are convenient to my apartment. But recently I took in a very expensive dress for cleaning and, the long and short, they ruined it. I don't mean damaged it, I mean ruined it to the point where it is totally unwearable. I called the owner to ask what had happened and he explained to me, in various ways, that he was in no way responsible and that the dress must have been defective and should have had a cleaning label. Forget that I have had it cleaned at least three times before (at different cleaners), and it was never damaged. He had the gall to be indignant with me for being angry that he had destroyed a valuable and irreplaceable item. In the end, he gave me $50 (less than 1/10 the value of the dress) and said he didn't care if I never came back (which I will not, and you shouldn't either). The cleaners at the Woodley Park Metro aren't convenient to my apartment, but walking an extra 15 minutes is a hell of a lot better deal than getting nice things ruined at DC Cleaners by a business-owner who doesn't give a damn about customer service. read more

Took my brand new silk shirt for dry cleaning here, got it back with 2 large creases ironed under both arms - the shirt was pretty much ruined. When I brought this to their attention, I was told that it probably happened when I wore the shirt and that it's not the cleaners' fault. I explained that I just bought the shirt, so it couldn't have been from a wear. They gave me the contact information of the manager to discuss this matter with him directly. For a while I was trying to get hold of him, he was always away, which was very frustrating. Finally, he got back to me and we settled with the cleaners partially reimbursing me for the damaged shirt. The latest owners of DC Dry Cleaners have raised their prices so high that at times I could have purchased replacement clothing for less than what I had to pay for their dry cleaning. The tipping point for me came in 2 instances - the first was when I took a sport coat to be dry cleaned and to have a button reattached. It cost $8 to have the button sewn on and when I asked why it was so expensive the older women told me it was because they had to find a button that matched. I explained to her that I had given them the button that matched and that was to be sewn on and I swear to you it was the same button I gave them. Her response was that they would give me a button and she brought over a big jar of buttons and told me to take one. WTF!!! Apparently I didn't learn my lesson and I went back later to have a hole repaired in the pocket of a pair of dress slacks where my keys had worn through. Again I was specific in my questions and instructions about and for the repair. When I got the pants back the had "short-sheeted" my pocket. Instead of patching the hole they sowed the pocket short above the hole making it completely useless. When I complained about what they had done to my pocket she told me there was no way to repair the hole. Then I asked why when I showed them the hole they couldn't tell me then it was unrepairable and she responded I am not the seamstress. I told her I shouldn't have to pay because if it were unrepairable the pocket is still useless. She told me I would have to pay and come back later to talk to the seamstress who would have to refund my money because she is independent from the dry cleaner. I feel they are soooo full of it at that owners have zero conscience about ripping off anyone who dare walk through their door. By the way I was able to have that pocket properly patched by a professional dressmaker in Springfield, VA and she didn't charge me. I have taken 2 sport coats, and 6 pair of pants for alterations or repair and it has cost my a grand total of $20! read more

I've lucked out. This is now my go to zipper place. I had to have the zipper moved on a bridesmaids dress because it was a full two sizes too big. It was done in two weeks (full disclosure-the woman doing these alterations did tell me to call on the certain days she worked to check on the progress because she was really busy). About a year later, I completely broke the double locking zipper on my Gortex shell coat. I was going to try to do this one myself since the coat was old, but I could not find a double zipper for sale anywhere. When I dropped off the coat they were totally upfront that it would take a month or two because they didn't know where to buy a zipper like that either. I was patient and about 6 weeks and 50 dollars later - brand new zipper and spotless coat. Y'all know buying a new parka and gor-shell is like a $350-$650 purchase - so sign me up for the 50 dollar plan, go DC Dry Cleaner. I sew and the work here is better than mine. I have not had clothes dry cleaned here, but I did get my girlfiends dress hemmed here. They were unrealiable, did not have the dress ready on time. I gave them two weeks, and needed it by that next Friday. On Friday it was not ready, and instead of apologizing or giving a reason it was not ready, they kept "not-answering" my questions (talking around what i was asking them). The wedding was the next day, Saturday, and they did get it done by Saturday morning, but only because I pushed them to do it. read more

Broken buttons, stress tears at the collar and cuffs and now again late arrival. The sign and receipt say pick up at 5:00 pm, but if you show up before 7:00 pm, your clothes are unlikely to be there. Ok, believe it or not but I needed a cotton shower curtain and liner hemmed! I didn't want the curtain and liner to drag on the floor or in the tub. So I decided to get them 7" shortened (no don't roll your eyes and think "why didn't she raise the bar... I have low ceilings!) I went to the dry cleaners across the Giant on Park Road and they wanted $20 for each item! No thank you! Then I went to the one across the street from DC Dry Cleaners (my old neighborhood) and they wanted $18 per item. Then I decided to try DC Dry Cleaners. I used to bring my stuff there and never had any complaints. Staff is friendly. I brought the liner first. She only charged $10. I told her I also had a cotton thicker shower curtain and she said it might cost a little more. When I picked up my liner I gave the curtain and she said $10! I asked her to take 7" off. When I got home I changed my mind and called her and asked if she could only take 4" off. She said she had already sent it out but she would call and check to see if it could be changed. She didn't call back but when I went to pick up the shower curtain she said she was able to do 4". They did a beautiful job and it fits perfect. Cost-wise it was the best deal! Yayyyy :) read more

I moved a couple of times in DC over the last few years and went to various cleaners in the city but this one is by far the worse. Not only was I billed when I asked for the buttons they gave me back destroyed to be replaced (the new shop to which I am going now is doing a perfect job with the very same shirts and for the same price) but they gave me back an expensive shirt torn and unusable. I was offered that shirt the previous year but to them, it was "old". When I complained, they put me in touch with the general manager. I talked to him once, he promised he would talk to his boss and get back to me to see if I could get a reimbursement equivalent to at least half of its value, but after 2 months, I am left with no news even though I tried many, many times to call him. This is simply dishonest and infuriating. To those who live in Adams, I recommend the cleaner on Columbia x 17th or the one on Lanier x Calvert, the quality of the job is far, far better, the price is roughly the same, and you won't have to worry about paying to get your shirts back in bad shape. read more
