Lunch special 3 rolls
Brian W.

This is a pretty small but decent sushi spot in Brookline. They've recently increased their prices, but they still end up slightly lower than the other similarly-sized sushi restaurants in the area. I had the Lunch special which was $16.99 for 3 rolls, miso soup, and salad. At a lot of other places, I've been seeing $18.99 or higher, so this is a really great price despite it being higher than it was last year. As for the quality, it's pretty solid with a few downsides: Miso soup - this was a standard miso soup from a takeout place - nothing wrong with that! Salad - I really like their ginger-based dressing - it makes the salad have a nice sweet and savory flavor. Spicy Scallop roll - this is extremely rare - most places I see don't have spicy scallop at all, and if they do, it's not an option for the lunch special. However, there are a lot of cucumbers in here so it's hard to taste the scallop, but I get it - scallop is a pretty expensive ingredient so this still gets positive points for even being an option! Spicy Tuna roll - this one was a little iffy. The minced tuna was fine, but the tempura flakes mixed in had a little bit of a stale and oily taste. Is it possible for sushi to be oily? This one was, which was a little strange, but it wasn't the worst thing. I'd probably skip this roll next time. Spicy Yellowtail roll - this one had the same tempura in it, but the fish was in chunks instead of being completely minced. I'm not sure why, but this one didn't taste oily - it was quite nice. All in all, the price is great, the quality is decent, and you get a good amount of food. I'd definitely come back, but maybe I'd skip the spicy tuna next time. 4/5!

No matter how many sushi places we've tried so far, U-Sushi comes out at the top! They are consistently good when it comes to flavor and freshness, their service is timely and friendly, portion sizes are good, and prices are fair. What more could you want?! We have some staples everytime we order - the spicy salmon Maki roll and spicy tuna salad. While both aren't technical spicy, they at least have a hint of spice as compared to what we've eaten at other restaurants. We also end up getting one of their specialty maki rolls, sometimes with shrimp tempura, spicy seafood salad, salmon or tuna, and they're all delicious. We order directly at the store, so we usually get a free edamame or seaweed salad since we exceed the price threshold. This is usually more than enough for two people. Overall, great value for money!

Had it for takeout. So i can't speak to the ambiance of the restaurant or the service. Most of the meal was ok and well priced but we ordered shumai and they literally gave us one and it happened to be cold. This was a waste. So overall good maki and just avoid the shumai let down.

Very convenient, fast, friendly and well priced sushi restaurant for takeout and sit down. Space has several tables inside or I frequently ordered takeout for pickup. It's location in Coolidge Corner and next to a Chinese takeout restaurant offer plenty of convenient options to mix and match dinner for those looking for options.

Loved the sushi here! Everything is fresh and seasoned so well. Would love eat there in person next time.

Overall pretty average sushi, but definitely satisfied my craving. The tuna was a little metallic and not my favorite but the salmon was silky and smooth. Pretty good ratio of fish to rice. A decent option overall.

Actually delicious sushi place- cheap too. Good wine list Great sushi Cozy atmosphere Very comfy chairs Rolls were good, but some of the fancier rolls were littler. (4pc) instead of standard 6. Wine was good and cheap. Bottle for $22 Very friendly and attentive service. I'd come hack here very soon!

U-Sushi (4.5/5) U-Sushi has become my favorite sushi place in Brookline to order takeout from. They offer a very reasonably priced 3 roll lunch combo ($14.99) that comes with a miso soup and a salad. Sadly, this offer is only for lunch but the sushi prices are pretty reasonable nevertheless. My go to order here is a Philadelphia roll, a spicy white tuna roll, and a shrimp tempura roll. The spicy white tuna roll here is my favorite of the three and is very flavorful. If you are looking for a sushi place in Brookline and have not tried U-Sushi I would definitely stop in and give it a try! The food is very good and quite fresh and they are very consistent.

Princess Maki, Pork Katsu, Spider Tempura, Beef Teriyaki

Yes to the sushi, no to everything else on the menu... We stopped by for a late lunch and oddly enough they were out of several drinks and sushi that we wanted to order. When we tried to ask the server, she didn't seem to understand our question or have any recommendations. For sushi I ordered the Princess Maki - Wrapped with soy paper, lightly battered and deep fried with unagi sauce. It was tasty enough and I should have stuck with this exclusively. Aside from the maki I also ordered the Spider Tempura, and Pork Katsu which came with Miso Soup. My friends ordered the Big Mountain Sake, beef teriyaki (appetizer), gyoza, and green tea/red bean mochi for dessert. We arrived starving, ready to eat everything. The Spider Tempura was edible but I realized it was a mistake when it tasted mostly like fried batter than anything resembling a crab in taste rather than appearance. The Pork Katsu again was hard to discern a taste other than fried, the sauce reminded me of A1 steak sauce. I couldn't finish it so I ate it the following day for lunch. As for my friend's beef teriyaki, it was such tough meat that the sauce could not penetrate it in anyway. It tasted dry and unappetizing. Overall the service was fine since we and another table were the only group in this small restaurant. The restroom was relatively clean, albeit a bit dark. There are plenty of other dining options in this area.

Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box Lunch

I don't know what to make of U-Sushi. I ordered take out around lunch time. The lunch specials were well portioned and priced. The shumai that came with the bento box were DELICIOUS. But something just tasted a bit "off" with the sushi and fish. Fingers crossed i don't end up with any GI distress like some yelpers have said. All in all, I was satisfied for the price, and convenience, but U Sushi wouldn't make my top sushi list. Delivery was also unbelievably fast (25 minutes)

SUPER delicious meal! I was worried that 2 rolls wouldn't be enough to fill me up but it was plenty and so worth it to try a special roll. This place lives up to the hype. My bf is a sushi hater and ordered the chicken teriyaki entree which he enjoyed. I can't wait to come back and try lots of different rolls from this place and their expansive menu!!

It's $50 for the regular AYCE or $80 for the Premium AYCE. We opted for the former, and it was plenty great. We have done lots of AYCE sushi and I will say this is the BEST of them - I think it's because it's the same grade sushi as they would normally do Ala carte on other nights. The $50 menu had plenty of sashimi and regular nigiri (sushi with rice) options and some Thai too. We had mostly the sashimi Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail, Octopus, a few rolls, some edamame, gyoza, shumai. My favorites were the salmon, as the cuts were large, thick and amazing silky, and the gyoza, as it was perfectly crispy. The Pad Thai was bit way too sweet for my taste - a skip for me next time. The decor is very nice - reminded me of a dive Tokyo bar. Service was quick and very attentive. We will be back!

The menu is so large and varied (sushi, izakaya, noodles, Thai food, etc) and yet every item is done so well! We got the teriyaki chicken, chicken katsu, yaki ika, and unagi and cucumber roll, and every item was fresh and delicious. Our orders were taken and served quickly, our waters were refilled regularly, and prices were normal for the area. I would definitely come back to try even more of their menu items!

The hostess was very kind and accommodating. I have high suspicions this place is owned by Chinese people based on some clues, such as Chinese style noodles on the ramen menu and steamed pork buns as an appetizer. We got the beef noodle soup which was excellent (albeit not expected in a Japanese restaurant!). It was actually a little spicy. Came with lots of beef and a flavorful and rich broth. We got two of the special rolls, Kiss of Fire and (I think) Torched Yellowtail, which were both tasty. No complaints there! For our appetizer we got sashimi salad, composed of strips of several kinds of raw fish (salmon, tuna, white tuna, yellowtail) and some surimi and avocado on top of a bed of greens. There was a ponzu like sauce on the side. Although fresh and not bad tasting, I think this was a bit plain. Overall though, the prices and vibes were good and I'd come back!

Yet another Brookline restaurant I regret not trying sooner!…read more This past weekend I stopped in for a quick solo lunch around 1:30. I happened to be the only one in there, but could tell the staff was working on some online or takeout orders. I was nicely greeted and shown to a seat. After giving me water they took my order. I got the crab wontons, their take on crab rangoons, as well as three different rolls (yes my eyes are bigger than my stomach). I went with the eel avocado roll as well as the spicy tuna and yellowtail rolls. I was REALLY impressed by the quality of all the food. I was given the wontons first and they were perfectly crispy and filled. I dislike when the ratio of filling to wonton is too heavy on the filling side and things get messy. They were also SUPER hot which is a personal must. My only qualm is I would've loved a bit more sauce, there were a lot of wontons for that small dish of sweet chili sauce. In terms of the sushi I surprisingly loved the spicy yellowtail the best. Normally the other 2 are my favorite but I might've found a new go-to. The others were great as well, though. You could seriously tell the tuna was JUST cut from the fish (I watched the sushi chef do so!). Notably, the ratio on the eel-avocado roll was great as well as the amount of eel sauce. No need to pay for extra on the side! I will most definitely be ordering or dining in from here soon, this time bringing friends along!
