Delicious sushi and steak bento! Our kids love the avocado sushi. The owners are very nice! Love supporting this mom and pop shop.

Dear Mr . Sushi Man & Wifey, Chinese & Japanese Excellence!! I love Sushi Man & Wifey ; Why are you so excellent? The freshest sushi these lips have touched . Including the soft shell crab at the most incredible prices . I have travelled 60 counties and no comparison. I thought you closed . Yet you moved to the other side of the street. I am so happy I drove by the other side of the street today to find you . My stomach did cartwheels with the freshness of your sushi and soft shell crab . Your food makes me so happy !!!

Good quality sushi. A bit out of the way but it was fresh and average priced. It's definitely one of the better spots in the area.

Eating at Sushi Man is always a great experience! We like to order new dishes to try with each visit, while ordering our usual favorites. This visit, I decided to try their udon for the first time, and it was HUGE. It honestly could feed two people with the amount of udon noodles and protein. It came with clams, mussels, shrimp tempura, spinach, corn, an entire salmon filet, & tuna. I would definitely get this again, loved the broth and the noodles were bouncy & had a nice chew. It was also our first time ordering the sashimi salad and we felt like this was such a good deal! For $20, you get an assortment of different sashimi and has more sashimi than actual salad. We ordered the beef curry and it was amazing, as always! Came with fried gyoza this time, instead of fried shu mai. LOVE the croquette, it's seriously so good. Overall, I highly recommend Sushi Man if you're looking for an authentic Japanese Sushi spot. They are owned by a Japanese + Taiwanese couple, with the chef being Japanese! Everything is always amazingly delicious and will never stop coming here.

Overall had a good meal with great service. I went on a Saturday for dinner with a party of six. It was a bit busy inside, but our server was extremely kind despite all of the tables. I ordered the chicken udon and the chicken tempura roll. The presentation of the udon was great. The noodles were soft and felt fresh. I would say the chicken seemed like chicken tempura, but was in the soup so the usually crunchy outside was instead soft. The corn and other vegetables were great. The chicken tempura roll was good. It had a lot of chicken and minimal avocado, which worked, however, I would have liked if the chicken was cut into smaller pieces. It often seemed like the chicken was in large blocks. The wasabi could have been a bit stronger as well. Overall, I had a positive experience and return for another meal!

Phenomenal. No notes. A true gem. Beef terrayaki is full of flavor, huge portion of beef which is cooked beautifully also comes with some dumplings, a croquette and veggies. The shrimp skewers is a flavor bomb, I'd get ten. Gyoza steamed was packed with filling and delicious. I suspect they are made in house. So good. Chicken udon soup comes in a massive bowl. The best udon noodles I've ever had. The cabbage is very good. Breading for the chicken is super light tempura.

Sushi was really good and really cheap. Definitely one of my favorite holes in the wall in newton. The staff was kind and responsive. If definitely come back

Not my first choice, more like my 20th. It's ok in a pinch but not really great. Gyoza tasted like the frozen ones from Wegmans. I swear they're the same ones. There's no sauce included either for them. I think you have to pay extra for ginger and Wasabi. Feel like that's included at most places where the sushi is cheaper. I don't mind paying for quality, but the reviews are right... the rolls fall apart. And the portion of rice is tiny under each piece of fish. It's just like no care is taken to prepare the food. It's rough cut fish slapped on a dab of rice. It's like when I tried to make sushi at home myself. My salmon Avocado roll didn't have any Avocado. Oh well. The staff is super nice. That's the 3 stars.

    Dessert too!!

I've seen salmon, tuna, toro, uni, squid, crab, and more. You can ask the staff to cut up the fish blocks for you, I'm not sure if this is for a small cost. They can add your fish to a bed of rice for an extra cost. They also have seafood that you cook, those items are in separate fridges with a label stating that the product is recommended for cooking. These items are frozen. You can also find different sauces, sushi rolling mats, seaweed, anything you can think of to help you prepare sushi. If you don't want to make your own sushi, you can order sushi from their menu and they will make it on the spot for you. Depending on the day or time you visit, there may be a little wait. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon one time and waited ~10-15 minutes for two sushi rolls because there was only one person working on the sushi behind the counter and one person taking care of the register. Please be patient with them as they seem like a family-owned small business. You can also call ahead to order party trays. The prices seem fair, I've never been disappointed with the quality of fish. Very neat environment, there are signs for everything. The staff is also super friendly!

Came here for dinner the other day with a friend & we did walk-in. We were able to get seated at the bar immediately. Though the restaurant was essentially empty at the time & there looked like many tables available, I guess they block them off for reservations only? Ended up being a full house by the time we finished our meal! There were so many unique options to choose from but we ended up getting the following: -tuna tacos -6 nigiris (2 otoro, 2 yellowtail, & 2 black bass) -phoenix roll -southside roll -lychee martini -"I trust the nanny" drink Take out order (after our meal): -nor'easter roll -spicy tiger roll -chutoro tuna w/ chives roll -4 otoro nigiris The fish tasted super fresh! Rolls were all very flavorful too! All of the rolls we ordered all had hints of spice & microgreens, which normally I wouldn't care for in my rolls but they managed to make it work well! My favorites from the dinner were the otoro nigiri & the phoenix roll! I love otoro & I love a torched salmon moment hehe, so though I enjoyed everything we ordered, those two were my personal favorites. I wish I had known about SushiCo sooner but I'm happy I was able to visit! Will definitely be back again for more sushi... much better than many of the "high-end" sushi restaurants in Boston (i.e. O ya, Oishii, Zuma, etc) in my opinion! Prices are higher than your typical neighborhood sushi joint BUT the quality is amazing & worth the coin! Parking: street parking

The negatives are that unfortunately, I would pass on the avocado salad. For $15, it was a small portion, mostly greens, and minimal crab meat. You always remember your first, and while Shogun doesn't have the distinction of being the first piece of sushi I ever tried, it is the first sushi restaurant I was taken to when I asked my parents for more. I couldn't have known how lucky I was at the time. It's simple, friendly interior. The comfort of its space, small without being cramped, cozy without being claustrophobic. Years later, when I visited Japan for the first time, I would realize that it was simply authentically Japanese. And the sushi! I've been to Japan, I live in California, but to this day it is the standard to which I judge every piece of sushi I eat. The fish was always fresh and flavorful, the rice perfectly seasoned, and they had bar none the best spicy mayo I have ever tasted. Seriously, the spicy scallop gunkan was the greatest thing I have ever had the pleasure to eat. If you never ordered the spicy tuna salad appetizer, I am so sorry you missed out. This brings us to the real heart of Shogun for me: Ito-San. Jiro may dream of sushi, but I dream of Ito-san's sushi. From the first moment I stepped in the door in the mid 90's to the last time I was able to stop by in 2023, Ito was there. The incredible kindness he showed me for nearly 3 decades of my life is not to be undersold. As he watched me go through countless milestones in my own life, he also shared his and his families own. Even if his sushi was lousy he would have still been one of my favorite people on this planet. But of course, his sushi was top class. This is starting to feel like a eulogy, and as far as I know no one has died. But something has been lost. Perhaps to you it was just a restaurant. But to me, Shogun Sushi was a revelation, and an institution, and a place of intense nostalgia. Knowing I can never go back is deeply saddening. At the same time, I sincerely wish Ito-San and the rest of the staff a well earned retirement. If any of you are reading this, I hope you know that every time I eat sushi I will be thinking of your restaurant, and everything it meant to me.
