I liked it but wanted more spice. Somehow, it lacked heat. I want to return to try their ramen, hibachi, and poke bowls - not at the same time. Was in the area running errands around lunchtime, decided to stop in as I was having a hankering for Ramen. Ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen (with spicy sauce (which is served on the side) as well as the vegetable spring rolls. The springrolls were as expected, crunchy with a side of duck sauce. The ramen was served with its "component parts" separate - the broth was separate from the noodles and other items which included two nice-size pieces of pork, fish cakes, ramen noodles, corn (which I thought was not typical for ramen) mushrooms and a hard-cooked egg etc. The broth was hot (temp) and rich, but was served separately. All in all, the ramen was...okay...not terrible, not great, but okay. Nothing specific I can point to, but I probably would not order ramen here again. Not because it was bad, just didn't fill my ramen craving (maybe I'm just spoiled by Tanpopo in Albany (or becoming a ramen snob?) anyway the place is clean, service was friendly and accommodating. Not inexpensive - this meal was $30.15 with tip, for one person. Anyway, I'd come here again, just not for this ramen...I'd probably order something else for my tastes. read more

I love hibachi. And this place doesn't disappoint. We order online and it is always hot and tastes good. I love that they don't. Put the sauce on the rock shrimp so it doesn't get soggy. We have only had the hibachi to go. And the prices are good with great portions. read more

We ate in for lunch today. Country music playing; Clean, open space, friendly and courteous service-cooked to order. Fried dumplings were perfectly pan fried and moist. The shrimp 4 and scallops 5 hibachi was plentiful and very tasty served with miso soup. The even came out to ask how the food was! The yum yum and shumai sauces were sweet. Visited June 3022. After opening the front door, and seeing this cafeteria with country music, I initially walked out. But with a fully open kitchen, I could see that this new restaurant is still super clean. And I've been to some very poor sushi restaurants in the Capital region. Maybe this would surprise me. So I turned around to see the decorations consisting of a string of flags and two paper lanterns. And ordered and paid at the counter. No sake, because no liquor license. No hot tea, or any hot drinks, just because. And cold drink selection is limited to bottles in the Pepsi cooler. No dishes. Disposable flatware. Soy sauce in 1 oz solo cups. And cafeteria tray, because no table service. Chutoro, not otoro. No wasabi. Small saba. Non spicy spicy salmon maki. Unagi maki contents are over 80% cucumber. QR code ordering. Doordash ready. Not necessarily a destination "eat-in" experience. But, for average lunch take-away, or gig-type delivery, I guess it will do. At least. A no frills place that offers up sushi, ramen and a bit of something for everyone. Our family on the east coast frequents U2 and consistently have great service and food. We stopped in for dinner and ordered a variety of raw and cooked items and all were tasty. I especially liked the yellowtail/scallion cut roll. U2 Japan was so incredibly nice to cater a Lunar New Year party in one of our classrooms. They supplied us with decorations, cookies, chopsticks, and an incredible plate of dumplings. The students all loved the dumplings and came back for several more helpings. The dumplings were super fresh and tasty! The best thing about it was that everything was nut free ( due to various allergies in the classroom). If you have not yet had food from U2 Japan, you must go and try it. This unpretentious Japanese restaurant sandwiched between a shoe store and a Five Brothers burger has become one of my favorite spots for a grab and go Sushi Roll. Their sushi is consistently fresh and well prepared. There is a fairly limited number of special roll choices, but every one that I tried has been excellent. Honestly, for the price you can't beat this place. Mostly I've had their sushi rolls, both the regular rolls and their special rolls; but tonight I tried their Chicken Ramen. The boiled egg was perfectly marinated and done to perfection; with a slightly soft center. The chicken was grilled and very flavorful. There were three nice thick slices of fish cake in the dish, along with pickled bamboo shoot. The bowl compared very favorably to the ramen I've had in restaurants specializing in ramen. This bowl was priced at $14. The staff are all very friendly and eager to make suggestions. There is not much to say about the ambience of the place. There are probably some 20 - 30 tables evenly spaced in a manner that calls to mind a school cafeteria. This is not a place to bring a romantic date; but for a quick bite before a movie, or for take-out, it's all it needs to be. I'm giving this restaurant five stars because it does what it does so well. No pretense, just very good sushi at a very reasonable price. read more

What a great new place! My wife and I got ramen to go. Tonkatsu and Vegetarian. Wonderfully flavorful broths (packed separately to keep the noodles from getting mushy) Noodles were perfect. Proteins were seasoned and delicious. Vegetables steamed and crunchy. We also got the crab rangoon. To me they were the perfect sized bite. The sauce had a good balance of sweetness and heat. Popped in for a take out lunch, order took a while I figured it was because I ordered a fried roll. Found when I got to work with it that they put a cold, pre fried and refrigerated crab in the roll. Which is not just disgusting as reheated fried food sucks, but unnerving to get regeared seafood from a sushi place. The other rolls I ordered were completely wrong, because I paid for spicy tuna and got spicy shrimp, and paid for Boston and got imitation crab with lettuce and cucumber. I traveled to Rensselaer, the noodle soup and Hibachi at U2 Japan restaurant are as delicious as those in high-end Japanese restaurants in big cities.
