My family and I have been enjoying Nishiki Sushi for years. At least once every week or two. The food is always so fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the tuna capaccio and the ninja roll. And the Rensselaer Roll. And the gyoza. And the Tom Yum soup. So many favorites! The restaurant is owned by the kindest people, a local family who live right here. If you enjoy sushi, hibachi, ramen, or poke... you really must you dine here, like immediately. Eat now, enjoy, and thank me later!

Good food. Fast and efficient service. Extensive menu! Crunchy lobster roll is a must!

The food was bland. The only thing I enjoyed was the raw salmon. I ordered take out instead of dine in. Maybe it would be better if I dined in?

Got a nice variety of sushi which they serve on a cute boat platter. Delicious and fresh fish!

Visited Nishiki for the second time yesterday, and it was as delicious as the first. Got a variety of fish including spider crab, salmon roe, spicy salmon, Godzilla roll and Nishiki roll. Nice fresh fish, delicious hot sake, and very pleasant friendly staff. We would definitely return.

Nishiki Sushi is located in a strip mall, a few miles from the main city center, in a township more comfortable with diners and chain restaurants than the authentic or exotic. The ambiance was simple and straightforward, with disposable chopsticks, paper napkins and a reasonably-priced menu with quite a few pictures. Despite my concerns, I followed the Yelp reviews, sat at the sushi bar and ordered a simple lunch - a couple of rolls and a few items off of the à la carte menu. Spicy salmon roll, eel-cucumber roll; sushi: egg, red snapper, smoked salmon and eel - the presentation was pleasant enough, following an unremarkable miso and salad. Unfortunately, I visited on the day that the chef must have forgotten to season the rice with vinegar, salt and sugar (sushi-meshi) that is required for every piece I was served. Flavorless rice is not a good starting point. Going downhill from there, the spicy salmon roll was apparently a crispy spicy salmon roll. Surprisingly, the tempura-style crispy batter mixed into the roll overpowered both the spicy and the salmon flavors leaving bland filling surrounded by bland rice. Also, the grilled egg (tamagoyaki) was, upon closer inspection, not rolled. It appeared to be scrambled eggs shaped into a square, sealed in plastic and cooked in a immersion slow cooker (sous vide) - not grilled at all. Hopefully this was done on site. The service was prompt and attentive, which did improve the experience, but the bottom line is always the food - and all I ordered was a few simple items. The food is not particularly bad, but it could be so much better. Luckily for them, there is little nearby competition to force improvement quickly.

First off, this is a vegetarian review. I am a vegetarian food lover and I frequent this place a lot. The food is delicious and the staff is very cordial. My friends really enjoy sushi and I always have quite a few options. The Vegetable Gyoza, sweet potato rolls, cucumber rolls and mango rolls are some of my favorite. And there are more options if you are a vegetarian. Be it the plating, presentation or taste this place has never disappointed me. It is simple, elegant and delicious.

This is the sort of restaurant that warms my soul. It is authentic, house-made with care, and served graciously with attention. Not what one would expect in a Rensselaer strip mall, but I was nearby in the late afternoon and went in for a late lunch/early dinner, in large part encouraged by fellow yelpers. The interior is pleasant enough and very clean. It seems the hostess/waitress is an owner and was very gracious. I had miso soup, gyoza and sushi. The miso soup and gyozo were excellent, flavorful and served hot. The sushi was so-so. Not bad, not great, somewhat poorly cut and not the best quality. I didn't get sick (I was wondering as I both ordered and ate since I was, after all, at a Rensselaer strip mall on a Monday). I will happily return when in the area. I think it's unfortunate that much of their business is take-out. It diminishes the respect and quality for the preparation. Would you order high-quality French to go (if they would let you!) and eat 1/2 hour later? It would not do the food justice. Same here, I believe. I encourage people to go and sit there to eat. I will again. Maybe I'll see you there!

Today was my first time ordering from here. I did not eat-in, and the preparation time was only 15 minutes. I ordered the Christmas roll which is a spicy tuna roll with tuna and avocado on top, a regular spicy tuna roll, and a sweet potato roll. The Christmas roll was very good as well as the spicy tuna roll but the sweet potato roll tasted a bit bland. I would order from here again and it seems like they have a nice dining area as well.

Reviews on Yelp inspired me to check out this sushi restaurant at the mall in North Greenbush…read more Fellow Yelpers were right. This is a nice little eatery. I was actually headed for coffee next door at Uncommon Grounds when I started to feel hungry. So I popped into U2 Japan first. I placed my order and paid for it. They told me they would have it ready in about 10 minutes while I went get coffee. It timed out perfectly. I don't know if this happens to them frequently but I found the staff to be very nice and accommodating. Since this was a spur of the moment move, I didn't really care what was in the sushi since I eat most seafood. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't fried. This had to be healthy. I picked the Dragon Roll. It was wrapped in avocado. It was delicious. I wolfed a piece down and offered some to a friend who was with me. He originally declined but then changed his mind. He asked what seafood were we eating. I didn't know. It tasted like smoked oysters. We were about three-quarters done with the sushi when I finally looked it up on the menu. It was eel. No big deal for me. Asians eat eel. It's sometimes a bit fatty in texture but this wasn't. It was the best eel I've had in years but my poor friend who never had eel before looked a bit appalled. He admitted it tasted good. I apologized and promised to check next time before I place an order so there would be no more surprises. Of course, we had a good laugh. The restaurant is very good about labeling which sushi is raw and which is fully cooked. I definitely knew I'd ordered cooked sushi. I knew they just made it and it tasted very fresh. I look forward to trying more items on the menu.

The wine is a bit pricey, but they have some decent red wines on the menu. So I appreciated that. Received food - waiter walks away while he places food ifo me. Hello, please ....... he's gone. Finally flagged down someone walking around. Got ice. Took more time to get bill (I was not in a hurry), but, please can someone check if everything is alright, if I want something else, or the bill. Waved down someone walking around. Got bill. Waited over five minutes for someone to come and take it-nope. Took bill to front desk and paid for very good food and very bad service. New person a front desk, took bill, and was very friendly (finally). Went I arrived there were only two customers. When I left four more had come in. I have worked in restaurants. I understand employees lunch breaks-but, to have staff in room where there is no one and not paying attention to customers. Ahhhhh - (a person came in and finally alerted someone in kitchen for takeout) not good. The place is beautiful. The food is great. The service needs a lot more work. (A smile does help.). (BRW I had hibachi Filet which was delicious and the price was great.) It doesn't cost much to be attentive to customers

To start, the restaurant is located in the basement of a brewery so it feels a little sneaky (in a fun) way as you enter. Inside there's a speakeasy atmosphere and in my opinion, perfectly charming. As soon as you enter, you are greeted and if a bit early have the option to grab a drink before the service begins. All meals are timed to last 1 hour and the chefs do an incredible job of getting through the service on time without making the experience seem rushed. We originally planned on eating at Sushi Shine but that was a bit of a disaster, so mom recommended Sawa instead, she had been to Sawa before and really liked it, so off we went. The interior of this restaurant and dining area is much more elegant when compared to Sushi Shine. Everything was clean and just had more class overall. Service was very efficient, we were seated promptly and our server, Vinnie, brought us water and fresh tea. We ordered a bowl of Miso Soup ($3.50), Seaweed Salad ($7.75), a Shrimp Tempura Roll ($11.00), and a Godzilla Roll ($16.00). Our soup and seaweed salad were out first (about 5-minutes) and our rolls followed about 10-minutes later. All of the food tasted fresh and had great flavor. I really liked the Godzilla Roll and probably could have eaten two orders if they weren't $16 each; you do get a really nice roll for the money.
