This was one of the strangest restaurant concepts I've experienced so far. Mom and me stopped in for lunch on Mother's Day. When we entered there was no host at the counter, we were just standing there for a minute or two before we started searching for someone. Finally, a lady came out the back kitchen and seated us. We just wanted a small lunch since we were planning on picking up food from Che Figata later that evening. Well, I guess there is no regular menu only the all you can eat buffet menu ($28 each)? The way it works is there is actually no buffet at all, you must place an order for items on the buffet menu then wait for the food to be delivered. If you're still hungry and want more you need to place another order. On one hand, your food would be fresh and not sitting out on a buffet; alternatively, most people will fill up before their second or third item arrives. Something to note is you can only order 2 pieces of sushi or sashimi per order, and one sushi roll per order. It wasn't too busy; however, customers that were already seated were just twiddling their thumbs waiting for more food to arrive and there was only one server and she didn't look like much of a go-getter. After about 5-minutes of waiting around for something to happen we decided it would be better if we got the hell out of there before we were stuck sitting around like everyone else. I guess this concept works as this restaurant does have good reviews, but I just didn't like the vibe and couldn't risk a potential bad experience on Mother's Day. Sushi is subjective in the US. There's cooked roll people and there's platters of salmon and yellowtail sashimi people. This review is for people who resonate with the latter. Of course, we love rolls and other foods as well but that's not what this 5 star review is for as we didn't try much of it. Wasabi was once the best AYCE sushi spot. Ruby City came along and gave it a good shot (still best place for variety of made-to-order ayce including ramen), but Sushi Shine is our new favorite go to. Why? Because quality. Plate after plate of salmon, yellowtail and red snapper on a slow day was still delicious and fresh. The appetizer yellowtail jalapeno is where it's at with the ponzu sauce. Their yakitori shrimp was cooked to perfection (large shrimp, juicy and not overcooked at all). Hand rolls were stuffed full and the speciality rolls we did get were pretty solid. Note: Save room for their deep fried oreos. If that's not your thing, they do have more dessert variety than other AYCE places. read more

Not the best sushi you'll ever eat, but anyone expecting exceptional sushi at an 'all you can eat' establishment needs to reassess. The bottom line is that Shine has a good variety of passable sushi at a reasonable price. My party agreed the salmon was generally meh and we selected the tuna as our favorite. We only tried a few non-sushi/sashimi items but found them to be fairly underwhelming, presumably frozen offerings. read more

Sushi is super fresh. So was the seaweed salad. Staff is friendly and helpful. Decor was pretty. I liked all of the decorative fish lighting fixtures hanging from the ceiling. The takeout meal that I bought wasn't cheap. It was about $20. My advice: Dine at the restaurant and order the all you can eat. It'll be more satisfying for both your stomach and your wallet. Who doesn't love all you can eat sushi, hibachi, appetizers? You mark off on the menu what you want with a marker, they bring it to you, you eat it, mark off some more, they bring it to you, you eat it, etc. I'm so full right now! This is a brand new place and it's big with lots of choices! One price for all you can eat! The sushi was delicious. We shared everything. We got a sweet potato roll, avocado roll, spicy shrimp roll and also calamari, crab Rangoon, shumai, and calamari. So much more I want to try! The service was very fast but we were the only ones there at the time. Super friendly. I hope this place does well because it was great. I was so busy eating I didn't get many pics of the food. An all you can eat sushi buffet...had to try it. We came out for a special occasion at the request of the birthday girl. Upon entering the restaurant, it was not "extra" special. Just very typical looking but the service is what shines. Our waitress was amazing. She was so friendly and checked on us often. The food was great too. We had a variety of sushi rolls and we liked them all. We were disappointed that the wasabi tasted off and not hot but the ginger was fresh. I was craving some sushi, and stumbled across this gem. All the sushi was fresh, and the shumai, dumplings, and tempura was amazing!!! What I enjoyed in particular was the seared tuna in ponzu sauce. I could've ate 10 plates of those. I got there at 11:30am right when they opened so everything was fresh and ready to go. Lunch is a great price at $17.99. Probably THE BEST all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant I've ever been to. This place does not cheap out on the ingredients! The portions were great too. The two ladies working the floor when I was there were very friendly and all smiles. Service was very quick too. My favorites on the menu were the Beef yakitori and rainbow roll. They were both delicious and the rainbow roll tasted better than some $20 sushi roll in the city!! Don't skip out on the beef yakitori- the seasoning was SO delicious. Overall, I paid about $34 (including tips) for the AYCE. I didn't order a drink so it may be more if you do. But it's worthed it! Very good quality and absolutely delicious! read more

This place is everything you could ask for in an all you can eat sushi restaurant. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and amount of food you receive. Everything tastes fresh. The sushi isn't overwhelmed with crunch, spicy mayo, or cream cheese like it is at other restaurants. They also have a good selection of choices without making the menu too large. The service is great and the food comes out very quickly. My first few visits they presented us with dry erase menus which was nice and made ordering easy. The last time I was there the waitress took the order using a tablet, which made it a bit more complicated. I much prefer the dry erase method. This was not enough to effect my rating since they are one of the best not only all you can eat sushi, but best sushi in the area! The restaurant is fairly new so the decor is nice and up to date. I love the fish shaped lighting fixtures as they add a nice ambiance. The restaurant is clean and so are the bathrooms. Let's be real - nobody expects to get the highest or best quality sushi at an "all you can eat" establishment, but going into our dinner here, based on the high Yelp reviews, I had hope it would at least be decent. It was my son's birthday and he wanted sushi, lots of it. So we decided we'd try this place out as it was somewhat new and as I said previously, had some great ratings. Upon entering, we were stared at by a few chefs standing behind the sushi bar. Crickets. After an uncomfortable 20-30 seconds they told us we could sit in the main area. Our waitress came over and took our drink order and we started looking at the menu. They have a good mix of sushi, American-chinese and Japanese items. The waitress came back with our drinks, got a few of them mixed up and apologized. Not a big deal. She then proceeded to take our first round of food orders. She had a very hard time understanding us. One thing I will say that is great about this place is that when you CAN get your food orders in, the chefs in back and at the sushi bar are QUICK. Like a few minutes quick. All of our hot food was clearly made-to-order and piping hot. Now I can understand why a place like this doesn't give out big portions of fish in their sushi, but after eating the first piece of my spicy tuna roll, I had to take about 1/2 the rice off of the outside. There was a lot of rice. The next round I got salmon and mackerel nigiri. The salmon was fine, but the mackerel was clearly not super fresh. Again, there was mostly rice. The hot items we got were - fine. Nothing super but my youngest son who is super picky appreciated the fried catfish and chicken. The biggest problem I had was the service. As I've said, once we got our orders in, the food came very quickly, but the catch is that there was only one watiress, and she was on her phone a lot. We had to flag her down a few times instead of her checking in if we wanted more. And when she finally did come around it was very difficult trying to explain what we actually wanted to order. I don't want to knock this place but there are 2 other Japanese restaurants within one mile of this place and the sushi quality there is world's better. Best all you can eat sushi place I've ever been to. I typically don't do all you can eat sushi joints but my friend said it was excellent so I gave it a whirl. The restaurant was lit well and very clean. Waitstaff was attentive and the food was fresh, came out quickly, and was delicious. It's a large menus full of all the regular items you're used to at any of the capital region sushi restaurants including hot/cold appetizer, fried rice, soups and more. I enjoyed my food greatly. Everything I tried was delicious. The waitresses were extremely nice to us and there was not much waiting for our food. They were fast and efficient. I would recommend the Kirin roll to anyone. We didn't order that much, thinking we can just keep ordering anyway. Wrong! The waitress didn't come. She came for the other tables near us , but not our table. Maybe because we were sitting in a corner? I don't know. So for an expensive place, i didn't get my money's worth. When we finally were able to flag the waitress, the food came incomplete. If you're looking for atmosphere and ambiance, you may be disappointed but the food and service are fantastic. We were there for the dinner all you can eat service and we were extremely happy with everything. We ordered the cucumber-avocado salad as well as the seaweed salad. Both were great especially the cucumber avocado salad which had a mango dressing. Also had the calamari which I suspect was sliced calamari steaks in a sauce that was great. Could see this as an entree over rice. It was that good. A order of the chicken katsu was good as well and the beef yakitori was amazing. The sliced beef was tender and some of the best I've had. Very impressed with the thick sliced beef and the amount. This dish and the calamari will be a staple for us. Ordered quite a few of various sashimi, (the octopus was great) and also 3 of the specialty rolls and the favorite was the orange dragon roll but the remaining 2 were good as well. What the ambiance lacks, the service makes up for it. We had 2 servers and each of them were at our table frequently clearing our plates and offering more food.
