I called Charlottesville Transportation on Wednesday afternoon to schedule a 4:30 a.m. Thursday pickup for the airport. The gentleman I spoke with was very professional. I received a text at 4:26 a.m. this morning letting me know he was outside whenever I was ready. When I got outside, a well-dressed guy helped load my suitcase and drove me to the airport, making pleasant conversation but not overdoing it. At the airport, he took payment, accepted my tip, and helped me with my suitcase. This is how all transportation experiences should be, but apparently that isn't the case with other companies. Tip 1 - if you're scheduling an ASAP ride, call the dispatch and ask them to give you an estimate of how long the wait time is at the moment. This is the MOST accurate info I get from them, the automated computer and the online estimate are just that - estimates. They're probably generated from some computer code and most of the time they're pretty close but the ONE day you need it to be right ofc will be the day it's WAY off. Call the operator instead. Tip 2 - talk to the drivers! I've ridden with 15+ drivers and pretty much all of them have been wonderful. I've had way friendlier drivers with yellow cab than Uber. Tip 3 - lower your expectations. At this point, their biggest competition is probably Uber who is just doing a better job. I've had late yellow cabs, wrong time estimates and honestly? Cabs that look like they're going to fall apart. But it will get you from point a to point b if that's all you're looking for. Overall, I'll be honest - if you have the option, I would recommend taking an Uber. Yellow cab could be a real contender if they had nicer vehicles and more accurate time reporting. Their drivers are super nicer but Uber is just more reliable.

At 5:35 I called Cville taxi to see where the driver was. They said they would "look for one," then they passed me to "Accounts," where I was told to call back in 10 minutes [!!]. I canceled and tried Uber and Lyft, but no one was closer than 14 minutes away. So I had to drive my car and park it at the airport for $13/day x 9 days.
