Bloated battery forcing the phone to come apart at the seams
    Bellea M.

Experience during second stay at home order Dec 12/Jan 7. My husband's battery in his Pixel 3XL bloated rather suddenly and unexpectedly. Having gone through this before with my own Pixel 3XL, I tried first initiating repairs through Google Store. (In my case, it was covered under warranty and sent me a refurbished phone.) They do not allow shipment of (out of warranty) repairs with bloated batteries and directed me to their nearest authorized repair facilities, uBreakiFix. I called the Fremont shop because they are the closest location. They gave me an estimated repair cost and said if we wanted to come down right then, there were only 5 people in line. I replied that we were over an hour away and would come down the following morning. The next morning we arrived shortly after they opened (10am) and there were four people in line. When he finally got inside, he was told that it was a 50/50 chance of repairing the phone and replacing the battery. If the phone could not be repaired, there would be no charge. Okay, cool. He also brought his Apple 6s+ phone to replace a cracked screen which they said would not be a problem. They quoted a four hour repair time and said they would call with any updates, so we went around the corner to grab a bite to eat then off to Target for a few items. Two hours after dropping off the phones they called and said the repairs were completed. The young lady who called said that if we came "right now" there was no one in line or in the store. We were there within 10 minutes of their call and did not have to wait to get in. Overall, it was a very smooth transaction. The staff was professional and repairs were done in a timely manner - in fact, sooner than originally quoted. Both phones are in working order again. Covid protocols: Only two customers are allowed inside at a time, one at the counter, another sitting inside near the door. Customers waiting outside self distanced themselves. Hand sanitizer available both just inside the door and at the service counter (it smells like plumeria!) So yeah, there might be repair shops closer but it was a nice day, and we got out of the house for a few hours. And since I rarely get down to this part of the bay, it was a nice outing.

Phone condition noted that it was in near perfect shape.

This repair shop should be renamed IBreakUPay. Photos to be uploaded soon. I visited the shop on Sunday November 5th around 1pm. Store mentioned that they could glue my Samsung Galaxy S10+ for free after I reported the phone had mysteriously split along the side seams (phone was encased in protective case with protective glass screen since purchase in June 2019). The store looked at the phone and said the battery needs to be replaced for $84 But in addition to this upsell, the store requested that I provide the phone passcode so the technician can have full access to my Gmail, Google Pay, Coinbase, Google Drive, etc in order to run "diagnostic" on the phone. They claimed that they are Samsung officially authorized store so this is the protocol. Upon picking up my phone around 4:30pm the same afternoon the store mentioned that they took off the screen protector to clean the front screen and the camera lens for their "diagnostic". Phone appeared to work fine and looked almost brand new as the way I kept it. I took the phone home and the following morning the screen went dark. The Samsung was still getting notifications but the screen was completely dark. I called the same store and they mentioned that maybe a connection was loose so they can repair. Upon bringing the phone back on Tuesday November 7th at 10:30am the store informed me that the screen had failed. They quoted me $250 for the repair and refused responsibility. The store wants me to believe that my Samsung phone which I kept in almost perfect condition without any screen issues for 4.5 years suddenly experienced a fatal failure on the screen functionality just around 12 hours or so after I had the Samsung phone battery changed. The store did refund my battery replacement charge of $84 but denied any responsibility for the screen failure. The store, however, is willing to repair the screen failure for $250 plus additional taxes and fees. Would most people reading this post believe the store's assertion that I just happen to have the worst luck having the screen fail within 12 hours after the battery replacement, and the store is not at all responsible for the screen failure. I will attach photos showing the store acknowledgement that the phone appears in near perfect condition. The protective glass for the screen had cracks but the screen is immaculate. I had the phone screen replaced at another shop for higher charges due to lack of trust in UBreakiFix which should be renamed IBreakUPay.

If you're considering a screen replacement between a genuine Apple one and an aftermarket one,…read moreplease read this. TLDR; Buyer beware. Screen replacements on newer Apple phones will cause a lot of issues that the seller does not disclose during sale nor want to remedy when inevitable issues arise. I have an Iphone 16 Pro that had a crack on the screen that increased in size over time. I did not initially want to spend over $300 on an genuine Apple screen replacement and opted for an aftermarket one. i found Sycamore Tech through Yelp, contacted the owner who scheduled me to come in the same day. Went to this business and had my phone screen replaced in a matter of 20 minutes. Prior to fixing, the owner even upsold me for a OLED screen for an additional $20 since the genuine Apple screens are OLED. After picking up my phone, the owner told me that I will have to calibrate the phone screen which can be done through the settings. I paid a total of $179. The same day, I noticed that the motion/movement while swiping on the screen was very harsh and not smooth compared to before. I also noticed that my phone battery was draining a lot faster along with the fact that the phone was heating up quickly. When I tried calibrating the screen, the phone would not allow it and gave an error message saying that it does not recognize the screen as a genuine Apple product. I searched the error code on Google and apparently it is a very well known issue. An issue that the owner never disclosed. A day or two later, my phone screen went completely black. Initially I thought that my phone was off (due to the battery draining quickly) and attempted to turn the phone on. However, I received a text message and felt the phone vibrate. A purple hue then started developing on the edges of the screen. My coworker immediately took a photo of the issue for me. Using my coworker's phone, I was able to secure an appointment with Apple the same day. After work, I went straight to Apple and told them the issue. The Apple tech ran a diagnostic test as done procedurally and even asked me "This is an aftermarket screen huh? I can tell." Apple replaced the screen, ran a diagnostic test, and everything functioned as normal again. The Apple tech also commented that Apple products are way too advanced today and gone are the days where you can buy aftermarket replacements parts. I paid Apple $350 in total to have my phone screen replaced. My mistake however, was not asking for the malfunctioning aftermarket screen back. I went back to Sycamore Tech and informed the owner of all the issues I had. I even showed him the $350 charge from Apple to prove that I was not lying or trying to game him in any way. His response? "Well yeah I mean it's never going to be as good as an actual Apple one." When asked if I can get a refund or even a partial refund, his response was, "How can I give you a refund if you don't give me back the screen?" I pleaded with the owner and explained to him that even I went back to Apple, I was not sure if I can get his exact phone screen back. The owner told me, "What kind of business would I be if I just started giving refunds to people who don't have a product to give back?" I pleaded with him again that I was not some customer who returned months later demanding a refund with no type of proof. I asked him to stand by his business and his product and again asked if. there was something he can do to remedy the situation. His response? "You should have came to me first." First mistake I had? Using Sycamore Tech. Second mistake I had? Not asking for the malfunctioning phone screen back from Apple. Third mistake I had? Coming back here thinking that the owner will right a wrong. An owner who does not stand by their product/service nor make any attempt to rectify their poor service is an owner who only cares about the money you're giving him,. Spend your money wherever and however you want to, I'm Just putting out my experience with this business so you won't make the same mistake.

When my daughter picked her phone up, she noticed the quality of the screen was very poor. The front facing camera was visually grainy which affected FaceTime, videos, and camera quality. My daughter ended up going back to have it looked at and Raj and Adeel let her know that it was her screen protector. They removed the screen protector which doesn't make sense at all, but my daughter left thinking that everything was resolved. Wrong, the quality of the front camera was still an issue with no change or improvement. She also purchased the screen protector from the store and never received a refund. She came back a third time and they ended up replacing the screen. Usually, second time's the charm right? Not this time. The quality was exactly the same. My daughter tried messaging through Yelp to find a resolution, but her messages were completely ignored. I'm disappointed in the customer service this store provided although having a good rating. My daughter had to find a more reliable and dependable store to have her screen replaced. So far, it's as new as the day we bought it. Not to mention that the new store we went to was very friendly, fast, and provided a warranty. Having to pay for another store's failure is unpleasant.

I brought in my aging Apple Watch Series 5, which was barely holding a 4-hour charge. I knew it was a bit of a gamble, but given their extremely reasonable quote, I decided it was a risk worth taking to try a battery replacement. Why they stand out: Constant Communication: Martina and her tech kept me in the loop every step of the way, specifically regarding the availability of the parts. Technical Honesty: After getting under the hood, they realized the issue wasn't just the battery, but an internal circuit problem. Instead of performing a "fix" they knew wouldn't last, they called me to explain why it wasn't worth pursuing further. Unmatched Ethics: Despite the time and labor they spent diagnosing my watch, they insisted on no charge because the repair wasn't successful. In an era where many shops charge "diagnostic fees" just to look at a device, finding a business with this level of ethics is incredibly rare. I felt bad that they invested their time for free, but they stood by their word. I'll definitely be bringing all my future business to their Milpitas or Cupertino locations.
