My first time at the Stadium for a UCD vs. Idaho State football game. I loved the atmosphere...small college town vibes, with lots of alumni and community support. It's a step above a nice high school stadium, yet super small for a D1 school. There were a decent amount of students (we sat next to the band and student section), but they weren't too rowdy or anything. Definitely family-friendly. They have concession stands with concession stand prices, and they also have a few food trucks and a Woodstocks Pizza pop-up stand that sells beer. They have a merch stand with limited UCD products. We ended up going to the Aggie Store downtown for a better selection. It was a fun game to watch in person, but there is zero shade in the stands on either side for a 1pm game. The only shade during our game was in the grassy slope under the jumbotron that was packed. We left at halftime since we were getting baked in the sun. We did miss the rest of a great game but UCD took an L. Parking is plentiful and close for ADA placards in Lot 56. All other visitor lots are a short walk, but they also have shuttle service. When I went to school here ( a LONG time ago), we had Toomey Field. This stadium is a very nice upgrade that UCD and the city of Davis deserve. read more

Long awaited replacement for the venerable Toomey Field, Jim Sochor Field at Aggie Stadium is a modern, compact football stadium befitting the UC Davis football team. It's surprising that the areas to park are a few blocks away since the stadium is so small, but it does tend to thin out the crowd as you leave the stadium and cuts down on the time it takes to get out of the game. There is closer in parking for tailgating and for Team Aggie members. The stands and the field itself are below street level. The end zones are grassy slopes down toward the end zones and are general admission. I saw no lawn chairs, so I presume they're not permitted. Besides, the slope is too steep for lawn chairs anyway. Not sure how comfortable it would be to sit on a grass slope all game. We sat in the alumni side across from the student sections, the visitors sections, and the Aggie band section. The Team Aggie seating section is between the forties and feature hard plastic seats and cupholders just like real stadiums. The rest of the seating from the forties and the goal line are aluminum benches but with aluminum bench backs. The upper Team Aggie section rows get the afternoon shade quicker than the rest of the stadium, in part because of the shade that the coaching and press box structure that overlooks the stadium. Presumably, the NW edge of the shade created by the coaching and press box gets more shade in the afternoon due to the elevation of the sun in the Fall. The bathrooms are new and clean and modern. The only unusual feature of the concessions appears to be the fact that the concessions are in the concrete buildings surrounding the stadium and open away from the field. This means that when you're in line for food or drink, you can't see the game. There are a number of food and drink stands around the top of the stadium. Unfortunately, there were pretty good lines for everything. I did see one water stand at the NE corner of the stadium. I guess Davis could build another level above the concession stands, so their configuration makes sense. But I'm not sure how likely a major expansion is in the cards. The press and coaching box is above the Bruce Edwards room which doesn't have any windows facing the field. Not much of an inducement to get more Team Aggie members if the Bruce Edwards room is available to Team Aggie members during games. Big stadium lights for the field for night games. The UCD stadium is a great venue. In the last five years I have attended numerous athletic events and functions at the Aggie Stadium. Most recently, we have attended the annual Softball Banquet in the Bruce Edwards room in the Club section of the stadium. The facilities are great and its nice that UCD athletics has a venue for all of the sports teams to use. read more

This is a great 'little' football stadium on the campus of UC Davis. It reminds me, a bit, of Raley field in West Sacramento. It is the proper size and scale for the level of play. It is also very family friendly. I love sitting on the grass hills behind the end zones. You can lounge out and watch the plays develop in the unique way one can only appreciate from that angle which typically is not highlighted on televised football games. We saw the Aggies beat up on University of North Dakota in a Big Sky Conference matchup. It was a fun game to watch. I was particularly impressed with the Aggies star Gabe Manzanares, hailing from San Francisco. That guy must have been involved in virtually every offensive play. I'd have loved to have his numbers on my fantasy team. The student section is full of energy and the band is great for team/school spirit. The only downsides to the stadium are the odd bathrooms on the west side of the stadium; they are hidden thru a corridor, too small, and have a normal door on them that you have to open and close with your hands (not sanitary.) Also, there should be more fun food vendors. I think there was one food truck, but I only saw it when it was pulling away. They have a 4th quarter hotdog for $2, so hold out. The new UCD football and woman's lacrosse venue, Aggie stadium opened last year. It has seats for roughly 10,000. The stadium has expansion potential to seat 30,000. This year they had lights installed making for safer games in the early season when temperatures here in the stinkin' CV can still hang in the triple digits. I'm going to subtract one star from a perfect five for the excessive use of electricity. College football really ought to be played on Saturday afternoon in October. Why the night games? This is a relatively small stadium for a large school, but since the sporting events here aren't too popular, it's never overcrowded. The stadium itself is built on a hill and descends downwards into the center like a donut. The ends of the field has no real seating, but are instead grass areas. This was probably a cost cutting measure so they wouldn't have to put in as many seats. There are food stands and bathrooms upon entering the stadium. read more
