There are two entrances, and it's easy to access if you're coming through the surrounding walkways. It was clean, comfortable, and they were playing great current pop music. He gave good recommendations and, when there was a mistake with my order, immediately apologized and fixed it without hesitation. Very polite and professional. Now the Wonton Soup was hidden star of the meal and for less than $3!!! I ordered it without scallions, and the broth was very flavorful. The wontons tasted homemade. The wrapper wasn't my favorite, but the filling was meaty and delicious enough that I finished every bite. The sushi I tried was the Steak Tataki with soybean wrapper. The flavor was as you'd expect with teriyaki sauce, but don't expect rare steak. The sushi rice was seasoned really well, though! Glazed Shrimp Similar to walnut shrimp with a thick, sweet sauce. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, although the tempura batter wasn't as crunchy as I'd hoped, understandable once it's tossed in the sauce. I squeezed some of the orange garnish over a bite, and the acidity actually balanced the sweetness really well. The broccoli seemed mostly decorative since it didn't have much seasoning beyond the sauce. Today l call to place an ordered and was told it's 1.00 each. l asked is this new because l typically get it with no problem. On my first visit here, I literally sat next to Russell Wilson and Ciara, so it really says something (to me) that even celebrities come here. I visited this restaurant with my daughter, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had. From the moment we arrived, the service felt unwelcoming. The host simply pointed us to a table, handed us the menus without so much as a smile, and walked away. After waiting more than 10 minutes, no one had come to greet us, take our order, or even offer us a glass of water. I walked up to the host and said we were ready to order. I was told we would have to wait because the kitchen needed to serve the guests who had already placed their orders. While I understand that kitchens can get busy, the restaurant was only about 50-60% occupied, and no one had even taken our order yet. A few minutes later, my daughter said she was thirsty, so I went back to the host and politely asked if we could at least have some water while we waited. Her response was, "When we come to take your order, you can ask then." I was genuinely shocked. In every restaurant I've ever visited, providing water is one of the first basic courtesies extended to guests after they are seated. This response came across as not only dismissive but also unnecessarily rude and lacking basic hospitality. When our server eventually brought the food, I shared my concerns. The only response I received was that they would "talk to the host." There was no apology or acknowledgment of how poorly we had been treated. However, food was good but this whole experience is why I am giving 1 star. There are countless restaurants that value their customers and understand the importance of simple acts of hospitality. I got the lunch special which includes two maki rolls and a house salad. I chose to get the crunchy roll and spicy yellowtail roll. Nothing crazy, pretty basic rolls. I would have liked equal ratios of fish to rice in the spicy yellowtail roll as you can see it's mostly rice. I don't normally order cooked rolls but I wanted to try something different and I enjoyed the crunchy roll... more than the other roll. This restaurant is a mixed bag. However, overall the 3.7 star Yelp average is probably too high. Most of the problems with this restaurant are easily fixed. On the positive side, this restaurant is in a beautiful historic building. It is better to enter from Trade street to avoid getting hassled by building security when you enter through the Tryon entrance. However, the Tryon entrance lets you enjoy the historic features of the building. The sashimi here was excellent. The salmon and yellowtail were large and good cuts. Not sure if they were frozen, but they tasted good. The eel was about average, thin, but decent sized piece and not over-sauced. The wok dishes of Singapore noodles and broccoli with no meat added were just ok. The noodles were a little soggy, seasoned well, and a little spicy. The broccoli was way over-sauced with a sweet glaze that the possibly predominantly American clientele may enjoy, but was too much for our taste. Besides the way over-sauced broccoli (probably for all wok dishes) one of the main issues was the unfriendly service. The man who served us had a really bad attitude as did the woman seated us. Perhaps they were having a bad day or customers are often rude to them, but we were not and neither were the other customers we observed. At 11:00 for lunch on a Tuesday they were deserted when we arrived and the place quickly filled up over the next 15-30 min and became quite loud. Being from SoCal where we have and are used to high quality and authentic not only Asian, but also other types of foreign foods, we would likely not eat here again. However, those who like sashimi only or Americanized Asian food may enjoy this place--just beware the potentially indifferent to rude service. read more

I want to start by saying I've held back on reviewing this for a while as I used to go here often and wanted to give this place benefit of the doubt. The food here is excellent -- bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and creative dishes that really stand out. Unfortunately, the service drags the entire experience down. The staff is always uninterested. No smiles, no effort to check in, and water glasses often left empty the entire time unless you actively flagged someone down. For a sit-down restaurant, that's basic hospitality, and it was completely lacking. The indifference from the servers created a cold, unwelcoming vibe that overshadowed the quality of the food. And, if you want something "extra" (chili oil) on my case, you practically have to beg for it. It's frustrating because the kitchen clearly delivers, but the front-of-house service feels careless and unprofessional. Last straw for me was when the server yelled at me for not telling them that the party I'm with will be paying separately, a question that was not asked before bringing the check. Unfortunately, because I'm pregnant, I can only have cooked rolls, but they were still just as delicious. I went with the California and crab/cream cheese rolls. We were told quickly that the beer selection was actually much more limited, and cocktails would be basically out of the question as the server didn't really know how to make them. She was very nice so we ordered two Sapporos and the food. Then we were told they had run out of dumplings (mind you they had just opened for lunch only an hour earlier and we were the only people in the restaurant). The rolls themselves were good and we enjoyed them (variations of spicy, different fish and crab, etc). Considered more but ultimately decided to go somewhere else for some small plates. As for the overall experience, the restaurant was not the cleanest. The bathrooms were rather gross, especially considering they just opened for the day. The light fixtures were all dusty, and the tables a bit sticky. The waitress was very nice and the food they did have came out quickly. It's been a hot minute since I've been to Room 112! I stopped by today to grab lunch with some friends and noticed they have Katsu on the menu. I ordered the Chicken Katsu and it was SO good! It was super light and crispy. It also comes with a spring roll and side of rice. The portion size is generous and I ended up having to box the rest home. My total for the meal was $10.77 with taxes, what a steal! Food prices have been so pricey lately that I could barely believe it. Service was quick and friendly. Room 112 actually deserves 2 stars but I'll give it 3 for the customer service. I came here on 4th of July for a quick dinner with my bf. I am thankful they were open on a holiday, but very disappointed in my food. I ordered a Sweet Potato Roll, Avocado Roll, and Crispy Tofu. The crispy tofu is literally bland tofu fried - literally no seasoning whatsoever. We attempted to make the tofu tasty by dipping it into multiple sauces (soy sauce, sweet sauce, peanut sauce, etc) but nothing worked. The sweet potato roll was just cut sweet potato rolled into a sushi. The sweet potato is supposed to be seasoned and fried as it is at every other sushi spot that I have been to. Nothing to complain with my avocado roll, that would be really crazy if they messed that up. The service was quick luckily since there were only 1 or 2 diners other that ourselves. I got the steak tataki and crunchy roll. Both were good and I loved the steak tataki roll. I would definitely get that again. One plus is when I asked for chili oil, they gave me a decent amount!
