I was coming home after days of traveling and asked my husband to pick a place to eat not too far from the airport because I was going to be starving once I touched down. So his choice was here. Google directions suck they took us around the back to the parking garage for the 2nd level and since we have never been here before it took us a few minutes to figure out how to get down to the first level. When we entered there was a waiter taking an order and no one else on the floor so we had a little bit to get seated even though there were only two other parties in the restaurant. We were able to sit wherever we wanted so I sat with a view of the screen with the replay of the Brazil FIFA game on. My husband wanted the unagi don but didn't order because the price seemed high. The table next to us all ordered bowls and the serving size was huge so my husband regretted it. We order takoyaki, spicy wings, and 3 rolls Godzilla, Hadouken, and Master Roshi. The wings had amazing flavor but were not spicy. Takoyaki was flavorful and the perfect temperature. I get a lot of takoyaki that is entirely too hot and have to crack them open to cool before eating them. My husband did not enjoy the Godzilla roll he said the topping was too much and didn't add to the flavor. But enjoyed the other two. I enjoyed all three rolls the flavor was fresh and very little need for soy sauce fine without it. If we are ever in Charlotte with time to eat I would stop here again. read more

Had a race this weekend so when I went to pick up my race packet pass by this Lytle restaurant because I'm part Japanese, I try to go to some places that might have dishes that I remember fondly from my childhood ordered appetizers, veggie tempura, takoyaki, and cucumber salad. The cucumber salad was nicely, chilled on refreshing the takoyaki delicious the temper was good, had a cocktail it was fine, except very small considering what it cost. . The servers were efficient, friendly, and conscientious. The only thing was the restroom. There were a couple of signs in there that I did not consider appropriate for restaurant of the caliber in any case bye . We'll have to try again another time to see if that makes the reaction not bad but not great either. read more

First time visiting Konnichiwa in Charlotte for a sushi lunch. When we arrived the restaurant was empty and we were seated quickly. We ordered Miso soup and got one miso and one house soup (clear broth) that was corrected. The bento box with chicken was ok. The fried rice had no veggies or anything but rice so a little disappointing. We paid extra for a Phili roll instead of Cali roll and got 6 pcs for $6 extra. The miso soup was extremely hot and had a nice flavor. The Sunset sushi roll was good and spicy even without the spicy tuna and the rainbow roll was good. All the rolls were made fresh. The restaurant was quiet since we were the only customers BUT the music was very annoying. It was the same music playing over and over . I would give it a 3 out of 5. Met 2 other folks here for some sushi. Love the cozy atmosphere. Walls are a warm green and lots of booths. 2 of us got the crispy tuna rice, I love the texture and the flavor. It's served slightly warm with a tiny jalapeno and a dash of chili hot sauce on each piece. I got the Summer roll ($16) and loved it. It was shrimp tempura, lobster salad, mango slices, and chili sauce. I also got the lychee vodka sake tini ($15) and it was delicious. The other 2 gals loved their rolls also. My food was great! The portion sizes for my hibachi bowls (chicken & ribeye and chicken & NY strip steak) were so large, and they gave me plenty of meat. I would highly recommend getting their ginger salad dressing for your hibachi bowls--it is so good. My meal was around $23-$25 depending on what you get. All around 5-star hidden gem in the heart of Dilworth. Unbelievable sushi roll selection and they just announced an affordable, filling, omakase. Recently I had a weekend to myself (wife and mom of 3, hi). I decided to take myself out to dinner to celebrate and since sushi is my favorite... I loved the sushi here! I ordered the Dynamite Shrimp and the Miso Soup to start. Miso was great. The shrimp had nice flavor and a little crisp on the outside without being super crunchy. The shrimp was the slightest bit undercooked but it was SO close that I really don't hold it against them. I just happen to know shrimp really well. I got Miyabi and Devil Dice rolls. Both were fantastic, but if I had to pick one as my fave it would Miyabi. The combo of fresh fish to warm shrimp tempura was excellent. I had a Lychee saki-tini too and it was good. Not to sweet. They have an extensive sushi list. The restaurant is small but accommodates a decent amount of people. Although, it really isn't great for groups over four, given the space and how seemingly understaffed they were. Unapologetically, I have written off restaurants if the service is bad. Think about it, that's half the equation at a sit down restaurant. But the food I had was so good that I'd happily come back. read more

If I had known Konnichiwa's rating was a 90.0 before walking in, I probably would have opted out -- but I had already been seated and ordered a glass of wine, so I decided to give it a fair chance. Our server was friendly enough and did share the popular items, which I appreciated, but the follow-through from the kitchen didn't match the expectations that were set. I went with the recommended Panther Roll, and it was not at all what I expected -- it came out half-baked and lacking in both flavor and presentation. The crab Rangoons were even more concerning; they were fried in what tasted like old oil, leaving a heavy greasy aftertaste. The batter itself didn't seem right, and overall they were difficult to enjoy. I've worked in the hospitality industry for seven years and recently started writing reviews to offer honest feedback that can help restaurants improve. I genuinely dislike writing negative reviews, but this visit left me no choice. Konnichiwa has the potential to be a hit with a more engaged, enthusiastic staff, consistently hot food, and some attention to kitchen maintenance -- especially the fryer and oil. I was so disappointed w/the meal that my son and I ordered. We flew in from CA to NC for a competition & got to Charlotte late, no breakfast, no lunch, this was our first meal for the day. Ordered it thru doordash. First off, the presentation HORRIBLE. Both our food looks like they just smashed it the togo box. My son ordered chicken katsu bento, which on the picture looks exactly like all other chicken katsu that he always eats. I said no veggies, which they didn't put veggies, and ordered white rice instead of fried rice and fries. fries was smashed together with the chicken...which didn't look like the chicken katsu that was on their picture. It looked similar to panda express orange chicken without the sauce. Didn't taste good. then I ordered their NY strip bowl and specifically requested (it was an option) steam rice, and noddles, and i said no veggies meaning the side of veggies (both our orders were no side veggies). I didn't think they would just put all noodles and no veggies on noodles. the presentation looks like they were in a rush to put together the order and smashed all our food in without separating each item. to top it all i got fried rice, which tasted very salty, instead of white rice. We didn't finish any of our food. Glad that they didn't smash the calamari that i ordered, which was really tough to eat. I wish I could get my $76.60 back!!!! I am never ordering from this restaurant ever again when I come back to NC!!!! One horrible experience is enough!!!! read more

Being back in Charlotte after moving away in 2020 had me looking for ALL the good spots to eat. And since it was cold and I was feeling a bit under the weather, what better than ramen! After looking at several spots, I decided on Konnichiwa after reading reviews and I was not disappointed. My mom, sister and I arrived at around 4. The place was empty and we were immediately greeted and sat at a booth. The place is cozy with plenty of standard table tops and booths. The waiter was friendly and prompt, taking our order shortly after being seated. We ordered a number of delights from apps and entrees; eggrolls, spicy crispy tuna and ramen. For the amount and quality of the food in the bento box, the price is pretty reasonable. Very tender and flavorful salmon well-complemented by the fried rice and vegetables. It sure is a lot of vegetables, though. Service and ambience is where Konnichiwa loses out. On a Sunday afternoon, the music was loud enough that I could barely hear my server, and it was definitely just a radio station being piped in, ads and all. Ever since I tried their amazing Spicy Tuna Crunch Rice in Konnichiwa Charleston, I've been craving it...so I chose this place for our recent date night. We got there super-early for dinner (5:15 pm!), so was able to slide right in. BTW, they don't take reservations. We started with the appetizers...Spicy Tuna Crunch Rice and Shrimp Tempura. As expected, loved both...but especially the Spicy Tuna Crunch Rice. However, the presentation wasn't as dashing as in Charleston (it came on a Boat Platter). Their Shrimp Tempura was Panko-Fried...more like Katsu than the light Tempura. As much as I like Panko-Fried, think I prefer the lighter Tempura batter. Still, both items were thoroughly delish...and we had no problems lapping these apps up. For our entrees, I ordered the Pink Panther specialty roll, and my husband got the Highway Roll. I really enjoyed my roll...and so did my husband (he tried it). Despite the fact that the Highway Roll was their most popular roll, my husband preferred the Pink Panther. Both had fried elements, but Pink Panther was much lighter. Again, both really, really good...but think the winner of the two was the Pink Panther. Then we ended with their Green Tea Fried Ice Cream with Chocolate drizzle and whipped cream. I LOVED the Green Tea flavor of their ice cream! So...as always, I loved the foods. Truly, this chain has become one of my favorites. Service was really good too. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and gave lots of good insights about the menu, as well as the restaurant itself. By now, I've come to see that most all Konnichiwa locations have a vibrant green color theme going on. Initially I thought that this location was being slack, using the color theme of the previous Irish restaurant...but not the case! Think maybe Konnichiwa purposefully bought this location BECAUSE of the color theme. I must add that the booths are quite rough looking (very old??)...and awkward...as they are set too closely to the next booth. Also, the chairs are set too high. So honestly, not a big fan of the ambiance. Not super-comfy. Now, the biggest minus of the night - No Air Conditioning, at least for the first hour of our dining! It was a super-humid August day, and they didn't have the A/C on when we entered. Instead, the windows were open. HUH?!? I kind of remember that there was this lack of A/C on my previous visit/visits. We were literally melting for the first hour...Not a pleasant way to spend our date night. For this one big issue (for me at least), I still can't drop all 5 stars. It seems this is always a thing at this location (Open windows...No or Low A/C). I don't think this lack of A/C was an issue at the Charleston location...so not sure why this place always holds out on A/C. Going to try Fort Mill location, and see if that's an issue there. Again, I wanted to drop 5 stars for their foods...but didn't think their overall accommodations measured up (namely, lack of comfy seatings and A/C). This was a quality sushi spot, but we didn't love the ones we ordered. I'd love to go back and try a few different rolls. We ordered the crispy rice appetizer, per our server's suggestion, and it was good! It didn't blow me out of the water, but it was a tasty appetizer. It is very similar to a sushi roll, so if you're looking for something to balance out a couple sushi rolls, I'd likely opt for a different appetizer. But if you're ordering hibachi or one of the entrees, this would be a great starter that has a "sushi-feel." We also split the BSA roll and the comfy roll. The BSA roll was good, but the scallop flavor stands out, and we couldn't taste he mango at all. If you've never had scallop sushi or don't love that flavor, this might not be your roll. I enjoyed it, but I'd opt for something different next time. The comfy roll was "baked" according to the menu. The roll itself looked like a traditional sushi roll (not fried), but the fish inside of it almost tasted smoky. It was very unique. Not my cup of tea, but if you like a smoky flavor, this would be a good one to try! I've also tried the mango madness roll at an event that catered Konnichiwa takeout, and I really enjoyed that. read more

Yum!! I ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and Cassy' Roll The crispy rice with the tuna was just lovely. Just slightly spicy from the tuna but the sweet sauce on top was delicious. The rice was nice and crispy and I love the jalapeño on it. Cassy's Roll has softshell crab, avocado, cucumber in it with eel on top and all of the fixings. The crab was nicely cooked and fresh. It was so yummy and I would totally order again. The service was pretty quick and it was a beautiful day so we sat outside. The seaweed was delicious on a bed of spring mix. The rolls were great. We don't go for the cooked or the spicy and this was right on the mark.
