Ripped couch at UC Ingalls Harvey IL

My husband had to go to the emergency room at UC Ingalls in Harvey. I found the emergency room staff uncaring and indifferent. Also, once admitted into the hospital the bedside matter went down hill from there. In the room the couch was ripped and torn. The telephone was in a cabinet that was not accessible for my husband who had just had surgery. I had to look for it. One day he didn't get breakfast and when he was finally discharged they allowed him to leave without the use of a wheel chair, which I could not believe. This hospital needs more support from the corporate office to make it as high functioning and caring about patients as the one in Chicago. The community deserves better!

Debbie M. was very kind and helpful in directing me to the Outpatient Testing Center. As I arrived at the Patient Registration/Waiting Area I was greeted with a smile from a very kind and helpful Alex Arrioga. Alex registered me for the Electromyography Test. At this time Sue an EMG Tech took me to the room where she explained the procedure to me in a calm, compassionate, and clear manner. Sue responded to me in such a sweet and truly caring manner as to make me feel very much relaxed as she performed the 1st part of the test. Dr. Bassel Kazkaz was kind and professional and performed the 2nd part of the test. My most sincere thanks to you all. Steven S.

After blood testing and imaging showed nothing heart related , the doctor thought I should stay overnight for a stress test. They put me in an observation room on the first floor near the ER. The first thing I noticed was a toilet right out in the open. Not even a curtain around the toilet. No bathroom, no sink with mirror, no shower. Basically just the exposed toilet, a bed, a trash can and a utility sink with a used cup and straw sitting there. There also was a large window, about 4' x 4' with no blinds or covering. If anyone walked past outside that window they could see everything in the room. When I went for a CT I was left in a cold hallway with several other people for about 30 minutes before I got the test. When I got back to the room I told the nurse there was no way I could stay in a room that offered no privacy and stripped me of my dignity. He told me that I didn't have a choice. I told him that I wasn't staying and to remove the IV port from my arm and get me the paperwork to sign myself out. Horrible experience. I've been to their emergency room twice and both times have left me feeling traumatized. You couldn't pay me to go back there.

I made it through to the triage fairly quickly, but after that, the wait began. I waited for 5 hours to be called to the back area only to find out that I would be sharing a room (yes, there was a curtain between myself and another patient). So much for privacy or confidentiality. I was hesitant to answer some questions because there was a complete stranger on the other side of the curtain. I guess there is a shortage of nurses and doctors because they were stretched very thin that night. I felt like everything was rushed with the exception of my care! The nurses and doctors tried to do what they could but I just find it hard to believe that this is what Emergency Care looks like. After spending more than 12 hours at this place, I must say that I left disappointed and concerned for those who need immediate (Emergency) care in our area.
