Langston library has been a real life saver on those days where i run out of ink or my printer decides to act up. Confessions of an UCI poser. I don't go to this school, but I walked here everyday to study for my LEED exam over winter break. Quiet and good lighting. It might be psychological, but I think it smelled too because of the old chairs and desks. The hours were just okay... 8 - 5, but that's because of the winter hours. Lots of plugs for people to use, but you gotta be a UCI student to jump on the internet. Parking would cost an arm and leg. read more

They have great resources when it comes to scholar articles, journal writings, and other data base research. The computers are free of use to anybody and you do not need an authorization code to access basic internet searches. I expected this library to be bigger and up to date furnitures that are clean. The inside seems dark and not a place where I can spend many hours studying as it can get creepy at night (especially on certain floors where there is little foot traffic). There was not that many computers to use during busy hours so arrive early to reserve a desk, study rooms, or the computers. The older lady who works as a receptionist in the second floor where she sits by herself is very friendly. She makes guests feel welcome and she is always willing to offer assistance. Parking is 10.00 for a whole day in the parking structure across the student union. read more

Langson Library is one of my favorite places to study on-campus. Not only are there lots and lots of seats, tables, and cubbies on every floor for students to use, but the books here cover such a wide variety. When you enter the library from the main entrance, you're actually on the SECOND floor, not the first, so don't get confused. When you head down to the first floor, there are tons of computers there for students to use, as well as the Multimedia Resource Center. I used to study on the fourth floor, but switched to studying on the basement floor. Both 4th floor and basement are quiet floors. It's much quieter in the basement floor than on the fourth floor; not many people go there (which I suppose can make it somewhat creepy) but it's a lot easier to focus because there's no whispered conversations going on in the background and nobody always walking around. However, there are some homeless who wander around on the fourth floor, but they don't cause any trouble, so I'm fine with that. The only thing that actually sucks is that I don't get any reception down there. read more

With only the UCI Science Library review, it seems a little biased. Support the social sciences, humanities, social ecology, etc! Langson Library has a wonderful collection of books and departments in these areas. We also have a Southeast Asian archive and Special Collections department that handles books and artifacts dating as far back as the 1600s. Great place for resources. Basement and 4th floors are our quiet zones. Langson is open 24 hours for finals week! read more

This library is one three in UC Irvine. It is not my favorite because Ayala Library takes that spot, but it is very private. They have individual desks for students to work at and it is very quiet. It get really crowded quickly so I recommend going right when it opens. They have a large selection of books and computers, but the main part that is appealing in this library is the amount of space they have. They have I believe 4 floors allowing a large amount of people to come. If you have homework or any work in general, I definitely recommend coming to this library. read more

There was one particular bookcase I loved to browse to get a break from all the snooze inducing biology jargon and historical works. It was located in a quiet corner on the basement floor and housed all the thick fashion books, filled with glossy pictures and captivating stories, that I lusted for. My days as an undergrad were often filled with days of harried researching and I regret taking more time to really enjoy and abuse my library privileges. Whenever I feel a masochistic inclination, I go to this library. Nowhere else on earth will one find such downright mean and controlling people. Except for maybe in prison. I've only ever been successfully assisted here once. Every time following that all I got was a college aged clerk rolling their eyes at the thought of having to do their job. After a year, I got the hint. I'll find my own books even if it takes all night and YES for the love of god I have my ID card. It's hot and stinks from too many people sleeping with their mouths wide open. Thumbs down. read more

This library is kind of stuffy. But I used to come here all the time in high school to do projects with my groups or study hardcore in a cube. I love how this building has so many seats on so many floors. The library is generally very quiet except on the 2nd floor where they have the front desk people helping out. Pathetic. Books always missing or unaccounted for. A barely functional search catalog. Bizarre hours. Too few current/relevant scholarly resources. Hires way too many work study students that neither know about libraries or helping patrons. Let's cut the make-work jobs and hire some real staff. The students at the desk can barely use the stapler. No kidding. I speak from experience. If you want to print in Langson, you must have a death wish. It is that difficult to print. read more

I really like it here when the quarter's just starting out. Everyone is out having fun and almost no one has studying on their minds, so no one is in the library studying! That means tons of open and clean tables for me to pick from and a very quiet environment to study at. Langson is quite conveniently placed to many important areas at UCI: shuttles, bookstore, Starbucks, UTC, student center, Gateway study center, food court, etc. There are also a lot of great books for leisure reading, if you ever have some free time and want to read. They've also got a lot of course books on reserve so that I don't have to pay for textbooks. The main entrance is on the 2nd floor, not the 1st, so don't get confused! Also, while there aren't any study rooms in the Langson like there are at CSL and the science library, there are tons of cubicles and tables to sit at. read more

My daily hangout is this UCI library and I love it! Im here at least 3 hours a day/everyday. There is a legal library and it has plenty of mac computers to use for free. It's never crowded or noisy, there are always seats available. The AC is not too cold but cool enough to keep me awake:) My favorite spot is the 3rd floor, where it is quiet and has many sofas to sit (sleep) on. You are welcome to bring a drink (with a lid on), although dozens of fast foods are 5mins walk away. The thing is it closes at 6pm, which is an inconvenience. The library across from Langson opens till 9pm but has a mechanic noise going on. Wish Langson opened till later. read more

Langson library is probably my current 2nd favorite place to study on campus because it's conveniently located around the central parts of campus, it's right next to Gateway study center so it's also easy to access another study center, it's right next to the flagpoles so it's relatively close to the shuttle stops if you use them, close to both SSPS and SCPS for people that park on campus, next to Starbucks and food court and bookstore, and it's not super crowded like Sci Li gets some of the time (non-finals days). A large collection of books to use for research but their course reserve only consists of books in Social Ecology and Business and Econ and the likes. Not many Science books are on course reserve here (only at Sci Li). Overall it's a great study center but for limited usage. Doesn't really capture complete silence like Sci Li does but it's definitely good enough for midterms. Take your finals study sessions at Sci Li though. read more

Very quiet and cold. The ground floor is called the "basement" where not a creature was stirring not even a mouse. Great place to study if you need absolute peace and quiet. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it. Especially for those who get mentally unstable during finals week. read more

My favorite library at UCI is the science library. this library get crowded for sometimes; especially on the second floor entry level floor. I usually go to 4th floor sitting at the table . hello langson! if you like to get your studying DONE then come here basically. except the third floor, where people usually are talking. fourth floor is usually quiet, the first floor is SO COLD sometimes (my fingers froze while trying to type) and there are basically no places to plug in your laptops, unless you sit at the big tables, but there is also computers located on the first floor, and the basement has a few seats, but feels isolated. there is usually an old man on the fourth floor who always watches interesting videos on the computer, but besides him the library is full of students. midterms week and finals week are PEAKHOURS for langson. it will be hard to find somewhere to sit or study, unless you go in the morning. they have course reserves which loans out coursebooks for about two hours, depending on your class, and you can put a hold on the book to make sure you get it after the person who has yo' book checked out. BUT sometimes this is a lie, because someone still checked it out even though i had a book on hold. so ridic. if you check it out within two hours of their closing time, you can check out the book for the entire night, but need it returned by whenever they open the next morning. 15min grace period. free wifi for uci students, the usual. i usually chill at the single couches on the second floor when you enter, to do some work or whatnot. if you wanna catch people snoozing go to the third floor couches... they are all sprawled out read more

Langson is a cozy place to study, take a nap, or read a book. First floor can be drafty and noisy with the door constantly opening and closing, so if you plan on studying here for a long period of time, go to the upper floors, where there are more outlets and cubicle style desks. Do beware of those "study groups" who do more talking than studying. It helps to bring headphones/earphones to block out the distracting conversations! read more

This place is excellent.. it is top-class and has what you need for a good study session. Free wi-fi whether you are a student or not. It is accessible to many different resources and amenities. They also have an excellent online search database in case you have a research project. Across the street there is an extension library for those late hours. read more

I love Langson Library! I study here whenever I have a break in between class. I tend to go to the 4th floor study in the corner tables so I can have more privacy versus the first floor where you sit kind of right by the doorway and you just see a constant influx of people walking in. When I see so many people always walking in I get really distracted and start to people watch and not study (haha). I also tend to go to the first floor where they have a lot of computers that you can use if you didn't bring your laptop. It is useful that they have printers on each floor incase you need to print something out. I personally don't like studying, but if I were to choose I would come here to study anytime. read more

Is so easy to study and focus on Sundays! barely anyone there.

The library is quieter than gateway so that's a huge plus, but so so so so dusty. On a bad day, I'll get a pretty horrible allergy attack and that'll ruin the whole point of coming in to study. I didn't even know I had allergies until I started coming here. read more

Before I could even finish asking, the tall blond white male behind the desk says no, no, no and walks away. Not like there was a line behind me and that I would cause some traffic. Great place to study peacefully. Sometimes people can be a bit nosy, but nothing a solid set of headphones cant fix.

This place is great. I hang out here all the time and they have plenty of books/magazines and printing stations. My only complaints are that it can be hard to navigate at first because they got library of congress in a really weird order and the only listings for where specific places are in the library are in the elevators (oh, and stay away from the left elevator in the right side of the building where you walk in--it rumbles and sounds like it's gonna snap any moment). Also,t he library pamphlets they have are very unhelpful, don't bother picking it up. However, they have the best book selection I have ever seen and it's sad that with all my course work I can't read as much of it as I want. But, if you have some spare time before class or are bored, I suggest you do what I do--go the PQ section in the back, where the sexuality books are and laugh at all the hilarious title (I saw one named Sex Terrors, with a naked guy holding a chain saw on the cover--priceless). read more
