Ok so I will start this with the fact that this review is probably way overdue but my family and I have been patients of UDC for over 5 years. We all had high anxiety dealing with dentists and I can assure you that UDC is the best dental practice I have ever been to. So much so that even though we moved to the East Bay we still come back to the city to go to the dentist. They are informative without being judgemental and pragmatic in terms of working with patients on a comprehensive plan. They wont bully you into unnecessary treatments like I have been subject to in the past. Last week I had an oral emergency and even with everything going on the Ulloa brothers had me in the same day and helped me out. Appointments are NEVER on time. I'm so over the disrespect of my time when I come here. Writing this as I just sat down for a 10:30 appointment at 10:15.. it's 10:50 and the doctor is not even here! As in, he has not arrived to work. They made me waste my time in driving here, taking time off of work, paying for parking, and now having to figure out another time to come back. I just left, told them to cancel. I wouldn't have probably started getting worked on until 11:30 at this rate. It would be one thing if this was an isolated incident, but every single time I have an appointment, it never starts on time--no exaggeration. The front desk is extremely underwhelming, there's absolutely no acknowledgement of the sheer inconvenience of it. There's no apologies, offers to make better. They could've called me and let me know the Dr. would be late, they could've called him to get an ETA. Useless. I've been a patient of the Ulloa's since I was a child--the care itself has been just fine, but this is just absolutely ridiculous. read more

I don't give 1 star reviews but this is ridiculous. I've called 15 times, routed to voicemail every single time. Morning, right before lunch, and afternoon. I've form filled on the website asking for an appointment, no reply. I'm literally trying to give you money and you're telling me NOPE! we don't need it! If you're too busy to accept new patients then have the courtesy to say so. If your business is closed, then remove yourself from public view. Based on all the good reviews I was hoping this would be a good fit for me, but nope. After 2 weeks of trying, I cannot reach anyone here. Although I had a good experience at my consultation during the summer of 2018, I've since had a LOT of trouble communicating with the office. It's been a 1.5-year process trying to reach them for a simple thing: 1) Get Dr. Ulloa's (the UDC Dental orthodontist's) notes from my consultation sent to my regular dentist. 2) Get a conversation going between Dr. Ulloa & my dentist to decide how to best proceed forward with my crossbite issue. July 2018: My 1st free orthodontist consultation at UDC Dental with Dr. Ulloa. She recommends I get a Nite Guard as I am grinding my teeth. July 2018 - July 2019: Over several appointments back with my regular dentist, I get a Nite Guard made. However, the first night I wore it, it causes my crossbite to get worse, & my dentist recommends I immediate stop wearing it. She asks for the notes from Dr. Ulloa. July 2019: - I call UDC Dental & request the notes from my consultation the year prior. - UDC sends me my x-rays by email, no notes. - I reply to ask if there was other information such as notes from the consultation. - UDC responds by saying "After reviewing your chart. She suggested orthodontic Treatment." - This is *contradictory* to what Dr. Ulloa said to me at the consultation. I confirmed this by looking at personal notes I wrote after the appointment. I email back to say this, no response. November 2019: - I reply to this email chain again. No response. - I send a new email in a couple weeks. No response. December 2019: Tue 12/3 - I call UDC Dentail. They apparently did not receive my last 2 emails. If this is true, then there is something wrong with their email account, as they are in my Sent box & I confirm the email address with them. The woman I speak to takes notes & says I'll get a call back. Thu & Fri 12/5-12/6 - I have not received a call back. I call the office repeatedly over these two days (six times, in fact, as my phone records show). On my 7th call I finally leave a voicemail explaining my request. Mon 12/9 - I call & a different man answers. It turns out the notes from my consultation are confusing & that's why I've gotten contradictory information about Dr. Ulloa's recommendation. Finally! Someone has given me real information that no one has bothered to tell me before. Dr. Ulloa only comes in Thursdays & wants to see me in person that week (I cannot due to work). I ask if a phone call would work. He says he will find out & call me back. Fri 12/27 - I STILL have not received a call back. I understand it is the holidays, but that seems barely an excuse for a 3-week delay (really, a 5-month delay) on this matter. January 2020: I FINALLY reach someone in the office on the phone. Apparently, they had moved offices since my consultation & had lost notes, which is why I was getting such conflicting information. A little contradictory to the explanation the past month. Oh well, at least they offer a makeup orthodontist consultation with Dr. Ulloa (free of charge again) that month, at which she gives the same diagnosis (I need a Nite Guard). We agree that she will email the notes to my dentist, my regular dentist will respond, & they will have a conversation via email about how to proceed with my teeth. February 2020: Dr. Ulloa sends the notes to my regular dentist. On February 19, my dentist replies with her own notes as agreed. March 2020: [Note from here on out my contact with UDC Dental is all via text, as they use text to remind me of my appointments & respond via text when I have questions.] UDC Dental has not replied to my regular dentist's notes. When I contact them, they cannot find the email. Note this is a VERY similar issue to when they did not receive my email replies in Nov 2019. I ask if there is an alternate email address, & they say they will check. May 2020: UDC Dental still has not responded to me. However, this was the start of COVID so I figured their office may have closed. They confirm this over text. August 2020: I text UDC Dental again & find out they are gradually opening. They ask for my dentist to send the response again. My dentist does this, & this time UDC Dental checks Spam, & they find the response. On August 31, UDC Dental says Dr. Ulloa will "review the email this coming thursday." September 2020: My regular dentist has not gotten a response from Dr. Ulloa. I text UDC Dental, no response. October 2020: Wed 10/7 - I text UDC Dental again, they say "Hi, Dr Ulloa will sent an e-mail to your dentist, this coming friday." Mon Oct 12 - Oct 19 - I text UDC Dental several times, as my dentist has not gotten a response. No reply from UDC Dental. Mon Oct 19 - The last reply I got from UDC Dental, saying "hello, let me ask Dr. Ulloa, I wasn't here. Nov-Dec 2020: I've texted UDC Dental several times, still no reply! See my screenshot of this text exchange for the last few months. I'm extremely frustrated about this very difficult year and a half of communication! read more

It's been...a while...since I've gone to the dentist. They were exceptionally helpful as I scheduled my appointment and very warm as I entered this morning. They did an amazing job cleaning up my teeth - I feel like a new man. The dentist sat down with me after and walked me through the X-rays and explained how and why to make some changes in my life. I was at my wit's end looking for a dentist on my insurance's website. Hubs swooped in and found Dr. Ulloa. The office is on Mission, small and clean. I liked that it was new (since 2013) and they had state-of-the-art diagnostic and cleaning equipment. Great staff. Veronica had a light tough and made sure I was comfortable with each step. Dr. Ulloa was personable and explained everything he was pleased with and had concerns with about my mouth. Finally found a dental office I like! read more

So, I am conflicted as I write this because I had a GREAT customer experience with UDC. They are easy to schedule with, have a wonderful front desk staff and are very thorough in their cleanings/check up examinations. Dr. Ulloa is also very friendly, knowledgeable and understanding of patient concerns. However, I found Dr. Ulloa's treatment plan to be pretty aggressive. So much so, that I double-checked with my dentist back home (I'm new to SF), and they were really surprised by the diagnosis. With that said, the whole team understood my skepticism and sent me a copy of my x-rays, pictures and proposed treatment with no fuss at all - I thought this was very professional of them and I appreciated their willingness to let me get a second opinion before I scheduled any fillings/treatment. Dr. Ulloa did mention to me that he often has heard of East coast dentists offering less aggressive recommendations, and I'm no dentist, so let's just say that's where the discrepancy lies. If you're from the East coast, I would just keep this in mind. Otherwise, UDC is a good choice. read more

I've been going to UDC since their first office in the Excelsior District, and I hope I never have to find another dentist! They are super nice and attentive and really put you at ease. Don't know much about equipment but all of their technology always seems state-of -the-art and the offices are literally squeaky clean. The receptionist is a super sweet lady as well, she will put coins in your meter and everything! I highly recommend this family owned and operated practice. I did a lot of searching before finding UDC so, the 5 stars means a lot. I would consider myself a new patient only been going here for about a year and 1/2. Their staff is very professional and genuinely nice. I had a lot of major work done here (I haven't seen a dentist in 10 years!) and this is including the regular check-ups as well. A bargain considering all the high quality work done to my teeth. Also they timed my appointments to get the most out of my insurance. I can't say anything bad about UDC. Everyone at this place is super nice and personable! From the person at the front desk to the X-ray technician to the hygienist and Dr. Ulloa himself. They all were very competent and friendly and my cleaning was super gentle and pleasant. I came here on a new patient visit since it's close to my home and my friend recommended it to me. After the exam, the dentist recommended braces, a custom night guard, and doing three fillings. My inclination was to get a second opinion and a former dentist examined me and only agreed with one of the fillings, said braces could be helpful, and said a soft guard would be fine (custom from the dentist would be $400). While I don't doubt that Dr. Ulloa had my best interests at heart, I would recommend always getting a second opinion when a few fillings come out of the blue. My former dentist explained that some dentists are more conservative and some more aggressive. I suppose UDC may follow a more aggressive approach, although I am by no means an expert. Since the American Dental Association recommends that drilling (fillings) only happen if it cuts through the first layer of teeth and to be conservative in drilling, I opted to follow a more conservative treatment plan laid out by former dentist :) Thanks to all the staff at UDC for their kindness and professionalism though :) read more

I have been coming to UDC for almost 14 years I have referred many people here because I have never had a complaint with any of the services I have received. UDC is a family run business and has really grown a lot throughout the years I have had the pleasure of being both doctor Braulio and Omar Ulloas patient, having worked more with doctor Braulio I can say he is very professional and makes you feel very comfortable and always goes the extra mile to make sure you feel relaxed and well taken care of. Doctor Omar is a bit more serious but just as professional and also treats his patients with respect and definitely knows what he is doing as well. I've had 4 appointments here over the last year and a half and have always been impressed. They send reminder texts and emails for appointments (which is very helpful since they're usually 6 months apart). I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seen, and the dentists and assistants are professional, friendly, and efficient. The facilities are also very clean and they seem to have very up to date equipment. I haven't had anything other than routine cleanings and x-rays here, so I can't comment on more involved procedures, but so far the general feeling I've had inspires a lot of confidence. read more

This is my first time in the UDC, the appointment was assigned ybless tahn 3 work days, it was no an emergency, they have an eleftronic system to set and temind the appointmen; parking is available in the Mission or you can find a free parking lot within the Bernal Heights neighborhood, the most impressive point is the cleanliness of the clinic, flawless maintenance and they have and ELectronic Medical Record which I prefer for data privacy and security. Dr. Ulloa and the technical staff are kind and explained me the pros and cons of the treatment. Again the work they do was impecable, no pain and manual dexterity was great. They attend in Spanish and english and interact directly with Insurance Company to get the authorizations, so I only paid the copayment. read more

I initially picked this dentist because it is walking distance to my home. I've been three times since moving to SF two years ago (I tried another dentist first and didn't like him as much). I like this one so much that I recommended my best friend to go here. He is terrified of dentists and needed extensive work done and I knew he would be in good hands. My experience has been that the hygienists are very gentle and kind. I've been to dentist offices where they shove huge x-rays in your mouth and hurt your gums, this place isn't like that. Dr Braulio Ulloa is also an interesting conversation. He's really well traveled and I love hearing his stories. This facility is huge on oral hygiene education which is a good thing. They have brushing technique videos playing on a loop in the room. The interior design of the office is also pretty modern. read more

I hate dentists. But this place is great. I hate needles, but they have the magic touch. And they are simply good nice people.

The service is okay, but I didn't get my cleaning started until 30 minutes into the appointment. The whole thing took 20 minutes. I waited 30 minutes for a 20minute service. The doctor didn't even look at my teeth even once, and I just had the person cleaning my teeth take a look at my teeth. read more

I had a great experience here. Place is super clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and attentive. I went in for a routine cleaning and I havent seen my teeth this white in ages. I'm so picky about health services! I don't like at all places where doctors don't explain the why's and think that patients are stupid to understand fancy med treatments& language! Luckily there are professionals like Dr's Ulloa. They are just amazing! Staff at UDC won't suggest anything without explaining why it happened, what do you needed to do, and, what could happen if you don't get the treatment... they don't push you to get a treatment, they are just honest about your situation! I needed to get my teeth checked because they felt a little sensitive. and i knew thats usually a sign of a cavity. So a friend of mine recommended i make an appointment with her uncle. I had met her family before and they were always very nice to me, so i trusted her and went ahead and made an appointment. Keep in mind that my dad was a dentist for 9 years before he decided to go back to school to become an orthodontist, which he has been doing for the past 40 years in orange county. So i have a basic understanding of what usually happens during a dental appointment. First before i go any further, i just want to let everyone know that i knew this was going to be a good experience when i received a text message reminder from the clinic telling me that my appointment was coming up. I really appreciated that! I arrive to the clinic on time and the gentleman at the front was friendly, greeted me and checked me in. He had me fill out a couple of papers nothing too crazy, and then i waited a couple of minutes before i was taken into one of the dental rooms. I would just like to say that i thought the waiting room was so clean, tidy, quiet and organized. It was simple and those little things go a long way for me, it says a lot about the individuals who run their business. While sitting in the chair the dental assistant (i can't remember her name) asks me a bunch of questions pertaining specifically to my problem, which to me meant that she was trying to get all the information she needed to provide the best treatment. I thought she did an incredible job asking questions and being thorough. From here she took x-rays of my mouth while i was sitting int the chair from so many different angles, which i thought was really cool and innovative. Go UDC Dental Center for being tech-savy! Next she cleaned my teeth and OMG, she was a perfectionist, nice and friendly! She was always one step ahead an knew if i wasn't feeling it, or warned me if where she was about to clean was going to feel tender. Once again i really appreciated it. Next, Dr. Ulloa came in and showed me my dental films/x-rays and gave some recommendation about my teeth and said that he would be more than happy to send me the films via email if i wanted to send them to my dad. He was also very knowledgeable, patient, friendly and down to earth. He provided me with a UDC dental care package, which i use everyday to keep my teeth clean. All and all i had a freaking awesome experience and whoever is reading this deciding between dental clinics, i just have to say that you would be stupid to go anywhere else but UDC dental center!!!!! read more
