    a plate of indian food

Don't you just love South Indian food And the true happiness is when you find an authentic south Indian restaurant. So so happy to finally try this place . Their dine in option is available now with a cute little patio. The interiors and the ambience is amazing. Soft bollywood music playing in the background. We had mysore masala dosa, idli and vada . Everything was so delicious and yummy i Am just waiting to go back Again with my family. Totally recommended restaurant. They fully take care of the safety of the customers and precautions are being taken with mask and temperature checks.

Great place for south indian food. I took my sister to this place when she came from India and we went from Vancouver to receive her. Menu was so big you will be confused what to order and what not. Everything looks so good. We ordered mirchi bhajiya, masala onion rawa dosa, mushroom masala dosa, masala tea and thali ( which we cancelled because we started felling full after eating first two things). It is very busy place so they took some time to serve food. Quality and quantity both were amazing. We enjoyed eating. I want to visit this place again and again.

Your experience for the food can range between a. 1 and a 4, depending on what you order. I suggest you stick to the usual popular grub: dosa, idli, Wada. We went in a group of 8 and the restaurant was able to accommodate us as a group. One chair was additionally placed at the head of the table and that placement was slightly congested, and people had to squeeze into the couch, making it uncomfortable to eat. The place was full and the noise decibels are high, but this is normal in a South Indian fast food place. The decor is trendy and the ambiance is warm and welcoming. He layout is congested but I won't complain as more people can sit and dine at the same time due to this reason. The dosas were well done, the gongura is worth trying if you like sour, and the flavour was appreciated by two Telugu friends, so this is now vetted and worth trying. The Mysore masala was good too. The Idli Bath is another delicious item on the menu, the mix of sambar and rasam is tangy, slightly spicy, and a must try. The poori bhaji - poori was crispy and tastes good, the aloo subji is passable and I've had better at other locations in the GTA. Madras coffee is great, I had two just because! I didn't eat the falooda but others who did, liked it. The avoidable items on the menu are Upma and Kesari, these were dry and low on taste, felt like a total waste of money. The service is good and fast, servers are polite and well mannered. They should speak louder though, the place is noisy and it becomes difficult to understand what they are speaking. They have underground parking which is free for guests, make sure you inform the receptionist and register your vehicle number. Overall a good experience with a few misses. Important misses though.

I was waiting for this taste of south Indian food since long long time! We ordered Dollar Idly and Rawa Masala dosa and both of them were so so good! Quantity wise also they are good. Service here is nice but looks like sometimes rawa dosa takes time!

Mysore Masala Dosa (Udupi Style) and Butter Garlic Dosa
    Nikki M.

My friend and I came during Covid, so we were only able to take out. We ordered the Mysore Masala Dosa and Butter Garlic Dosa. We both loved our dosas! I found mine to be a little bit soggy and a tad bit oily but nonetheless it was delicious! I would definitely come back here and try the other items on the menu.

The Dosa's here always make me SMILE! Fast service! Clean small restaurant. Very busy! Not much else to say but you've got to try the food!

Service was terrible terrible. We sat down and no one showed up to ask for a order for good 10 minutes. There were more people working inside then guests sitting outside to eat but still we had to wait much longer to talk to anyone for different things. Food: we ordered Rasam and idali sambhar to begin with. Rasam came in fairly quickly and was hot and good tasting. After that everything was a downfall. Dosas were decent were sambhar was no where hot or warm and lacked taste/flavour. Coconut chutney though was good but other chutney which is suppose to be spicy tomato chutney/ or just tomato chutney, was purely whole bunch of sugar added to it. So instead of it being tangy and spicy, it was a sweet sauce it completely ruined everything for us. All three of us couldn't enjoy our food one bit. NO FLAVOUR. May be they are trying and targeting people who doesn't eat spicy, but that doesn't mean your food should lack flavour and you add whole bunch of sugar into things which are suppose to be tangy not sweet. Oh and Idali sambhar which was suppose to be a appetizer never showed up untill after the dosas came in. To make it even more amazing experience or nottt. Service was terrible. No one ever showed up to ask if we need anything or new spoons since after Rasam he took our utensils and never came back with new. So we had to borrow from the neighbouring table which was empty. In the end I asked the guy to bring me a box so I can take the left over home. And kept cleaning other tables 5 minutes after I asked him to pack my food as he was so eager to clean n close the place and go home. This is 8.30 at night and they close at 9.30. I WONT GO THERE AGAIN.

    Poori baagi
    Shajitha R.

If you're looking for a good sit down Indian restaurant, this is a place to check out. I've been a few times now and the Poori Baagi is definitely my fave!! One portion comes with 2 pooris, a potato curry and one more white curry that tasted delicious. Poori is usually hit or miss because sometimes it can be super thick and oily, but not here! Their poori was fresh, thin, and super crispy! Atmosphere wise, it was decent. Definitely a family style restaurant as there were a lot of kids around. A little noisey, but still a great time. The service was a bit slow as waiters kept passing us by as we tried to get their attention, but it wasn't the worst experience I've ever had. BTW, there's free parking below! It's in the underground portion, and shows a $5 fee, but if you're eating at Udupi, just sign your license plate at the front desk and you're good to go! Overall, it was a good eat and if in the area, I'd go again.

    Vada Sambar
    Anirutha C.

So after a very long time I had the urge to eat South Indian food ! So I landed up in Udupi madras Cafe.. and had the authentic Sambar vada first. So.. it's crispyyyy and good size vada's and Sambar tasted just good for the vada ! Light and crispy n yummy is what defines that dish then for the main course I was kinda confused between their types of dosa.. so I ended up ordering a dosa that had almost had all the elements of the other dosas.. Chilli Cheese Podi Masala Ghee Dosa. Yes it's very good yummy heavy filling dosa with some choices of authentic chutneys ! This place never disappoints

Variety of food from the buffet

This is probably my third visit and all of them have been before these apps came along. Secondly on the New Years Day at 11:30ish the group of us consisting of 27 of us including kids landed on this restaurant to have our brunch buffet. It became crowded after we started and people at UMC had set up and open a section for the additional crowd. Tons of choice for the all vegetarian South Indian cuisine buffet. Idlis, Medu Wadas, Dosas, Goli Bhajias (fritters), Upma, Pongal, Sheeera, Curd Rice, Sambhar, Rasam, Bisi Bele Bhath.... so much and more. Most of the dishes I tasted were done well. The dosas Crispy, the pooris freshly fried, the rices dishes well seasoned, the sambhar little thin for my taste, the rasam tangy and spicy at the same time. The channa Masala was a surprise-unlike the Punjabi version this tasted great with different spices and a good one not to miss. Idlis you should miss. Were too grainy and not soft. The coffee as well which is a marquee for any South Indian restaurant was a 0.5/5 stars. Would come back for sure if buffets were my thing.

    Hitesh S.

Its small south Indian cafe with good choices of south Indian dishes and good food. But the ambiance and service is horrible. They need exhaust in kitchen, whole restaurant has very poor air circulation and stinks. By the time you finish your dinner and step out your cloths will stink too.

Normally, a place that has a massive menu is a bit concerning to me…read moreas it often leads to not really excelling at anything, but that is not the case here in my experience. The reason behind the large menu is related to the aim of the restaurant, which is to showcase the various regional cuisines of India. As a result, don't expect the straightforward menu of: apps, entrees, deserts, etc... rather the menu is divided by cuisine. Aside from honouring tradition, they do offer a couple 'new' takes on some items. If you comb through a few reviews, and certainly the pics, you'll notice a must-order items is the roasted eggplant with pomegranate. It really is like nothing else I've had before and unforgettable in both taste and texture. My group also went with a famous lamb dish as well. I don't remember the name offhand, but it is incredibly soft, well seasoned and nicely spiced dish. We also went with orders of naan, veggie dishes and meat skewers. It's beautifully decorated inside and also has the advantage of being located in a heritage building in what was formerly an estate home nearly 150 years old. It's truly a unique place and one people living in the area can be proud and of showcase to visitors.

Another server came to replace our appetizer plates for dinner plates but seemed confused on how to do this (what?). We had to help her clear the table so she could put the plates out. Then we waited for half an hour, with no sign of food my husband went to the kitchen to find a server. Finally someone came to our table and asked us what we would like to order. We said we ordered over an hour ago. At this point the restaurant was packed. It appeared that they didn't have enough people working to have the restaurant run smoothly. 35 minutes later our mains began to trickle out. Our original server/ owner came out and said "Sorrry it's so so busy but I told you to tell me when you were ready for your mains." It was pretty sleazy because it was obvious he had set this up to be my fault. I told him "You disappeared for an hour how could I ask you?" He continued to apologize and then walk away. I didn't realize this place was in nightclub mode from 6pm. Loud music blaring from televisions which is fine, a million type of lights, a live flute player walking through the restaurant while the background music blared through the tvs. If you get overstimulated easily, this place is a nightmare for that. Some food was good, some wasn't. I don't remember because it was 6 weeks ago. I loved the seating area, we were in a booth. I don't recommend, would never go here ever again. It has so much potential but the poor service, untrained staff and little respect for their customers was the worst restaurant experience I've had in a really long time. They ruined my graduation dinner. Clearly the people who work there are Befikr and keep their diners in Fikrmand mode.

We tried happy hour - vegetarian momos, tikka chat as our appetizers both were average. Tikki chat was good considering other options in GTA but tikki was more like a cutlet, the portion however was huge. The presentation of the food was very good. For our drink hubby had a beer and I had mingotini mock-tail i loved my drink and the quality was exceptionally good. 5/5 there! For our mains he opted for Karahi chicken, it was spicy but fine and would rate 3/5. I opted for veg biryani which was a fancy pulaav not a biryani but it tasted good so 3/5. Again quantity was pretty huge so 5/5 there. What I loved about the restaurant was there vibes, and good service. In my experience it is generally bad service in Indian restaurants where you are served by students server with no training. This wasn't the case here. The servers and manager both were very hospitable and were keep a good check on you and your needs. So you can consider this place for a group party.

(1/5) I rarely leave…read morenegative reviews, but this experience was disappointing from start to finish, especially for a restaurant that positions itself as a premium dining destination. We arrived around 9:15 PM with our two young children (ages 2 and 6). What nobody informed us was that around 10 PM the restaurant transforms into a nightclub/disco, with music becoming so loud that it was genuinely uncomfortable and potentially harmful for a toddler's ears. Had someone simply mentioned this while seating us, we would have happily chosen another time or another place. That lack of communication alone was extremely disappointing. The décor is beautiful and the restaurant looks stunning. Unfortunately, that's where most of the positives end. Food Review: * Lotus Stem Kebab - Terrible. It was basically a regular kebab with a piece of lotus stem in the middle. Very uninspiring. 1/10 * Cream of Chicken Soup - Excellent. The kids absolutely loved it. 9/10 * Shroom Indulgence - Average. Just seasoned mushroom caps; nothing memorable. 5/10 * Palak Bocconcini - Easily one of the worst dishes I've had. It tasted like canned spinach and lacked freshness, flavour, and texture. 0/10 * Shahi Laal Maas - Served cold. The meat was tough, rubbery, and difficult to eat. It honestly felt like it had been sitting before being served. 1/10 * Missi Roti - Very good. * Green Chilli Laccha Paratha - Very good. * Roomali Roti - Excellent. * The Big Fat L.I.T Indian Wedding - Extremely watered down. I've had many Long Island Iced Teas, and this was among the weakest. 2/10 * The Paan Panther - Again, watered down and disappointing. 2/10 * Celestial Citrus - The best drink we ordered. Really enjoyable. * On the Cloud (Mango Lassi) - Nice presentation, but the lassi itself was slightly sour and below average. * Fresh Berry Tres Leches - Delicious and probably the highlight of the meal. The service was inconsistent. The staff who took our order were warm, polite, and welcoming. However, the staff delivering food were the complete opposite. When we politely asked if the music volume could be reduced because of our children, the response was shocking. One staff member told us, "We're all over Instagram. This is how it is. Didn't you know?" Since we could barely hear anything, we had to ask her to repeat herself multiple times. She then said something along the lines of, "That's the point--we don't want anyone to hear." The dismissive attitude, facial expressions, and arrogance were completely unnecessary and left a very poor impression. A restaurant can have great décor, but hospitality is what brings guests back. My ratings: * Food: 1/10 * Service: 3/10 * Ambience (before the nightclub music): 8/10 * Ambience (after 10 PM): 2/10 * Family-friendliness: 0/10 If you're planning to visit with young children, be aware that after 10 PM the atmosphere changes completely into a high-volume party venue. That may be enjoyable for some guests, but families deserve to be informed beforehand so they can make an informed decision. Unfortunately, what should have been a pleasant family dinner turned into one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had. We won't be returning, and I cannot recommend it based on our experience.
