Just in time for me to move out of the city unfortunately. This station is nice and clean, and easy to access for passengers and pedestrians. Having the train right in the middle of the road really disrupts the traffic though, so that's the reason why these stations don't usually get more than a 3 from me.

The platform has a little bit of cover from rain. There is a visual board with the current time and the audible announcement of the next train gives about one minute's warning. Tickets are $1.25 and you do not want to try to ride without purchasing one or tapping your multi-ride card. I rode the Metro four or five times and each time, there was a fare checker on board. This is an *interesting* part of town. Expect at least a couple of people to ask you for money.

But, there's something still to be said about reaching for the stars, even if you are a station. Situated next to the huge Smith Lands parking lot (primarily for medical center visitors but used during the Rodeo, too), it faces a large apartment complex, which makes for convenient hops for those dwellers who also work in the medical center. The Texas Medical Center stops are either 2 or 3 stops on the northbound line from here. First one is TMC Dryden and second one is the Memorial Hermann Hospital/Zoo stop. If you're having a medical emergency, you could buy your $1.25 ticket, hop on, and stumble into the emergency room. Actually, for liability purposes, scratch that. Call 911 instead. Pro tip: If you have to pee while riding the rail, you can hop off at this stop, enter the Smith Lands parking lot gate, and follow the blue awning path to the shuttle bus stop. There are buildings on either side of the shuttle stop and both have clean air-conditioned bathrooms, complete with sinks, soap, and paper towels. You won't find a gem of knowledge like this in any Houston visitor center brochure. You're welcome.

The fare is only $1.25 each way and it certainly beats having to pay for parking in these congested areas, however the ride isn't always pleasant. Homeless people continue to use the train, spread out on the benches and hang out to take advantage of the air conditioned cars among the hot Houston summers. Over the past year or so I have noticed that there are more fare inspectors, outfitted in neon yellow shirts, however these hasn't proven to be effective in reducing the homeless presence. Over the years I have seen people smoking on the training, sleeping, and even masturbating....yikes.

For $1.25, I'd say that it's fantastic. Trains seemed to run often enough to fit my needs, they were clean and they were speedy. Quiet (compared to the steel on wheels of Boston and New York) and modern (compared to London or Paris), the trains don't go all that far but they go far enough to allow a tourist like me to forsake a car rental and parking for getting around. Very simple system which operates on a proof-of-purchase system. You will need to keep your ticket handy as more than half of my rides had a fare inspector on board. You get to ride for a solid four hours for that buck and a quarter. Awesome!

This place is really cool and I think they should offer tours for it because a lot more people are interested in trains than you would think. Well me anyway. Maybe I'm just weird. Unfortunately stepping onto their property counts as trespassing and they're very eager to let you know that. Maybe because this is a low-income area. I wouldn't expect quite that many signs if this thing were in The Woodlands. But welcome to humanity. Anyway if they ever start giving tours I might raise them to four stars. I tried hard to take the Purple Line to Minute Maid Park but this station was packed and the train…read morewas much delayed by the street traffic. Unlike my experience on the Red Line, the Purple shares a lane of traffic in each direction with cars and on a busy day as it was today, the train does not get you there any faster than simply walking. The station is a side platform on Capitol Street on Rusk Street between Fannin Street and San Jacinto Street. It is between Theater District (westbound) and Convention District (eastbound, towards Palm Center). The station has automated ticket kiosks and an overhead visual announcement for the next train. I didn't stick around long enough to wait for the audio as I had a baseball game to see!
