We are frequent visitors to Savannah and have always enjoyed the culinary scene. Recently we spent 5 days dining at some of our old faves, legendary restaurants and award-winning destinations. We endeavored to try at least one new place for a meal and a cocktail each day (not hard to achieve). Ukiyo was our last stop and it stood WAY out from all the others - including a similar concept we visited just a block away. Every dish we had was amazing - hamachi and bluefin nigiri so amazing we made multiple orders. We started with cocktails and charred edamame. Then gorged on the nigiri, a special salmon roll and a couple buns - washed down with a bottle of sake. We were super full at this point, but couldn't pass up the okonomiyaki - which was absolutely delicious. Do grab a seat at the bar and watch the pros in action. They are all engaging, friendly professionals from head chef, Danica, to Carlos, Rob, Maggie - we can't recall all (including the superb and very busy sushi chef) but every single team member was as hospitable as could be. If this is your type of cuisine, you should not miss Ukiyo. read more

My boyfriend and I ordered the cabbage pancake, the wagyu buns, the chicken ramen and the duck ramen. The flavor of the chicken ramen was incredible. What a great find! Love this area of Savannah and we are big ramen fans so this was an unexpected surprise! Started off with the hamachi kamikaze roll, roasted mushrooms and the karage chicken. We had the tonkotsu and veggie ramens. The veggie ramen was a touch bland but after adding the chili bombs to the ramens (no charge, and didn't see on the menu) they were delicious. My yuzu gimlet wasn't amazing but still pleasant enough. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and Brie took great care of us. Would easily recommend and 100% return next visit. read more

Literally the only negative is the price. But it's worth every penny. Some of the best flavors I've had outside of japan. The chic atmosphere is evocative of the trendy Japanese fusion dishes. Unfortunately, the youthful ambiance correlates with blaring music. It. Is. So. Loud. The appetizers were delicious- especially the crispy tofu buns. My main course, the peanut noodles, were nothing to write off- but they were slightly over-seasoned. The garlic taste remained in my mouth hours later, but overall, it was a great meal. Our server was adequate. It was crowded for the Saturday dinner rush, so I understand the mix-ups; it happens to all of us. The staff were friendly, and the chefs in the open kitchen were incredibly dedicated. Our servers name was Stephanie and she was so knowledgeable about the specials and helped lean us towards the Tokyo Rose and Beef Tataki. The ramen is also a must try! Teresa's new cocktail program is unreal and Stephanie who was our bartender was definitely hyping up the new menu. Her bar back, Ahdo also helped us out and gave us great recommendations. It's a very cool vibe and good cocktails but we were so disappointed with everything we ordered except fried rice. The service was terrible like he was on auto pilot and he ignored us. The pacing of the food was ridiculous. Everything but a main dish came out at the same time and barely fit on the small table. When the ribs finally came out at the end of the meal, they were very salty We eat at all of their sister restaurants and love them all. My first night in Savannah and it was pouring down rain. To shake the storm I ducked into Ukiyo because yelp showed it was close and from the pics it looked nice inside. It was exactly what I needed on that soggy evening. The pork belly steamed buns were stellar, and I had whisky glazed edamame to tide me over till ramen! The tonkatsu ramen was delicious, a steaming hot bowl of long cooked broth with pork cooking inside of it, with all the necessary fixings and topped with a perfectly gooey egg. This ramen was special. Maybe it was the rain outside that made a big bowl of noodle soup like this hit different but it hit the spot. The rain let up just as I finished the last sips of my Japanese Negroni. Perfect. read more

Had to try this location as it is one of the newest spots in Savannah. Lucinda was my server and she is a great asset to this location. As they are just starting up I realize they are still working out some of the kinks of a new location. I am looking forward to returning and enjoying this food again. It's rare to find some of their items in Savannah so their menu really has me enthralled to try other menu items. I got the Tori, chicken skewers and then their pork belly buns. Sadly they got the buns out first and realized they forgot the skewers but it was a small computer glitch so I'm not holding that against them. The food was delicious and I look forward to trying more of their bun options. They are that good. Then I had their kimchi pork ramen. This was the highlight. I'll definitely go back for the ramen. If you're in Savannah you gotta give it a try. I'm definitely going back. read more

Heard great things and after having eaten there less than a week after opening, I think a bright future is in store. Being new to SAV from LA and from past experiences eating Ramen and small plates, Ukiyo is on the right track. Ramen broth was up to par and a little elevation with the "Chili bomb" on the Tonkotsu made it next level. I would however like the choice of thin or Thick noodles in whichever ramen I decide. Small plates were great, pork belly buns could be scaled back to a bit smaller piece to be more manageable to eat and a less sweet sauce maybe some spice, The Hamachi special was insane and something I'd expect in LA (fantastic job). Drinks are plentiful with something for everyone to include higher end liquor. Overall, I will be frequenting Ukiyo again in the future and would suggest others do the same, it is worth it for some authentic Ramen. Good luck guys!! read more

Best new Ramen and Izakaya spot in Savannah. They are a melting pot of the best chefs from all over. The wait staff was incredible and we were even offered a secret menu item (that hopefully they now make a regular)! We got the cucumber salad, pork belly buns, lamb chops (special item) and the tonkotsu ramen. As a fan of Japanese bar food I was thrilled to see the folks behind Collins Quarter take a stab at it in the space that used to be Chazito's on Bull Street in the Starland District. We decided to try it after an evening of Art openings at 9 pm. They thankfully are open until 10 pm. While only open for a few days the food and service were superb. The menu features shareable plates in the manner of glazed edamame, cold peanut noodles, smashed cucumbers, hot chicken with a cool ranch dressing that were delicious across the board. The selection of steamed buns is spot on. Our table tried the pork belly buns, as well as the Waygu Beef buns. We woke this morning regretting that they weren't open for breakfast . The ramen at the next table was given a thumbs up and will be the subject of a future visit. Ukiyo has multiple meanings including living in the moment detached from the difficulties of life. Dining there certainly distanced those difficulties for a pleasant hour and change. read more

Visited Ukiyo while I was in town. Walking in, you get a nice, quiet atmosphere and ambient decor. They nailed the Japanese aesthetic without being too campy and over-the-top, which is a mistake that a lot of American-owned Japanese restaurants make. I got agedashi tofu, which was quite good with its sauce. I also got a spicy roll, pretty normal and standard, nothing crazy, delivered well. Then, I ordered pork katsu, which I assumed would be served with rice, but I guess you have to order it on the side. Unfortunate, but that's what eating out is about: experimenting. The katsu was okay. Tonkatsu ramen was the final item, and it didn't do so great. A little oily for my taste. Overall, service was great, restaurant was cozy and quiet, but food wasn't all there. This might be the only Japanese restaurant in the area (I might be wrong), so it's worth going to if you can't find one. read more

I could tell there were quality ingredients to create the dish, execution just lacked flavor and memorability. Also ordered Plum + Proper Cocktail. Lol LESS than one star. The drink was literally three sips and it was GONE. The liquid (including the ice) made the actual drink less than an inch tall and it costs FIFTEEN dollars. I feel like my Ramen (Tonkotsu) was fairly priced at $18 for quality. The drink, no no. Ambience FIVE STARS, love the vibe. Bathrooms were CLEAN! Good on that. (Bathroom I was in did not have a changing table, for anyone concerned. There are two bathrooms. Both unisex. One toilet per bathroom.) It's an "ok nice" place, overall. Much attention went into the overall feel of this restaurant, which I can appreciate. Food is mediocre, and do NOT order drinks. read more

Beautifully decorated restaurant but that's about it. The ramen lacked any flavor. The buns weren't great...the wagyu one was basically a cheeseburger. We were so excited to get some authentic Japanese ramen, but this fell short. The presentation was nice, they really tried, but there was no flavor. Even after adding some chili oil. Still meh. And the egg completely disappeared into the broth...saw it when the bowl was set down, started eating and poof, melted away. Probably a nice place to go on a date, but not the place to go to if you've had real Japanese ramen in Japan and have that expectation. The servers were amazing. read more

Get the bao buns!! Incredible. Ramen is very average, nothing special unfortunately and would not come here for Ramen again. Atmosphere is very chill with unique decor and low lighting. What an incredible menu, service and culinary experience! Just arriving in town traveling back to FL, we ordered the most incredible garlic shrimp friend rice, charred bok choy, charred edamame and peanut noodles. The wine pairing was fabulous and the highlight of our dining was meeting the Owner, Anthony --what an entrepreneur! Of all the ramens I've had, this was the blandest. The tonkotsu was flavorless, some more shoyu would have made it so much better. The ramen was 17$ and we got spicy seasoning to add, it was literally just crushed peppers with a couple other spices sprinkled on top. Total came to 23$ so the crushed peppers were 6$? The price isn't justified because it tasted like tabasco sauce. They focused so much on trying to make this place look authentic, that they missed out completely on the flavor. For example, "63 degree egg" is written on their menu to try and sound fancy. Its LITERALLY a plain poached egg. Just soft boil an egg, marinate it and it'll be so much better than a poached egg. read more

Visited 3 times, menu changed each time, my experience has declined each time Cocktails - delicious, especially I Love You So Matcha and Green Tea Highball. Enjoyed various sakes too (tip: Google flavor notes). Best dish: Ramen - all of the meat options are delicious. Would come back for this. Octopus karaage is a new favourite. Must try! Don't be worried about the melon. Beef Sando is yummy but smaller than expected. Not a real sandwich, only 4 small bites. Shishito peppers are disappointing with the new mushroom recipe, old one was better. Worst: Salmon Nori Tacos tasted like chemical perfume! No extra sauce or chili oil helped. Do NOT order. Sever kindly removed it for us. Donburi's so sweet I couldn't eat it. Only a couple bites and I left it. No spicy options available, no sriracha or chili paste. Chili oil is available, but taste like nothing, no chili flavour. Tried a Habanero Bomb with chili threads, completely bland. No spice at all. Service has been great every time I've come. :) 2 stars because the salmon tacos were sooo bad! I can't stop thinking about how terrible they were. And food continues to decline each time. read more
