2oz of rice. Isn't rice cheap! It is, and so are the owners of this establishment.

Place is going downhill, especially their takeout. Portions suck unless you're an anorexic! What did I pay over $100 for? Burnt, hardened fried chicken and a side of rice that couldn't feed an infant. As a longtime resident of Charleston, I give this place the middle finger. My advice, go spend your hard earned money somewhere else. If you thinking about ordering the chicken, DON'T. I'd compare their fried chicken to Dodge's Chicken, the gas station.

The food was good but I would say it's more of a lunch spot. We got the soft shell crab special, okonomiyaki, Som Tum with chicken, dumplings and fried rice. My favorite was the okonomiyaki, it was packed with flavor and umami, I wasn't a fan of the pork on top but everyone at the table seemed to enjoy it. Everything else was not bad, it lacked depth and I've had better.

i love the vibe of this place. the service is great and the food tastes like it's made with love. i'd rate the broccoli a 8/10, the dumplings a 8/10 and lastly the Pad Kra Pow a 7/10. super delicious and can't wait to come back

Xiao Bao Biscuit always hits. No matter how many times I go, I genuinely love going in there. The vibe inside is so good and really well done. It's cool, casual, and perfect for a laid-back dinner, a date night, or grabbing food with friends. The food never disappoints. The okonomiyaki is always a must, and the pork buns are perfection. Everything is flavorful, well balanced, and thoughtfully done.

This place looks like it is a former gas station. So much vibe it was fun just sitting there and looking around. Jordan, our server, helped us navigate the menu. My wife and I wanted some quick bites and her recommendation were perfect. The dumplings had wonderful flavor but the showstopper was the Japanese pancake. We added the pork candy and egg and it was well worth it. Every bite was a celebration in my mouth. I'm glad we went here!!!

This was a very cold afternoon and I uncharacteristically sat inside. They have no warm drinks but that's OK. I got the green fish curry again- this time with flounder. It was less colorful but super yummy!

This is an eclectic, small restaurant I guess previously a gas station. Small seating inside and out with limited parking. This place the food is very good; a spectrum of Asia style foods. Every choice is an adventure! The staff is unforgivingly friendly and helpful in choices. Who doesn't love a restaurant that says " buy beer for the kitchen" on the menu? I recommend this a must of our excellent choices in the holy city.

One of our first stops in Charleston. Visited upon a friend recommendation. It was honestly so good. We showed up at 11 when they opened and it was super easy to get in and get our food. We had the Okonomiyaki with pork candy and an egg and the Som Tum w Chicken. I know they are famous for the Okonomiyaki and it was super good but I personally liked the Som Tum better. Definitely should check out if you are in Charleston. I've never had Asian comfort food and it was awesome. Also cool vibes inside. Portions are big so easy to share.

It was a cozy space that served delicious food. Good numbers of outside seats. Small private parking lot- 4 cars, but we were lucky enough to grab one. Got our food pretty fast.

Been excited to try this place for some time now and so happy we did. The menu is small and it showed the GF options which were helpful since my hubby has Celiac. It was also specific on the bottom that they don't modify dishes which I can appreciate. We sat outdoor although they had a nice and spacious indoor seating and bar seats. Our server wasn't the most personable and friendly, but she gave us a breakdown of their dishes. I asked her for a coke with my food and never got it so I didn't even mention it because we didn't see her after our entrees dropped. Now to the food! Pork+kimchi dumplings 4/5 - dumplings and texture were great, the sauce was good but TOO much ginger and that's all you could really taste with a touch of soy. If they toned it down I would've thought it was more pleasant. Pad Kra 5/5 - it was so flavorful and all the textures were amazing, especially with the fried egg on top. Delicious! Som Tum Salad 5/5 - another delicious dish. The flavors were on point, tangy, spicy, sweet and crunchy. You could taste the fish sauce which I love! We ordered a side of rice and it went well with hot dishes. We are looking forward to trying more dishes and some cocktails next time!

When we arrived, we were seated right away and given menus. However no one came back to ask if we wanted drinks, so after about 15 minutes I went up to the bar to order drinks. Once the drinks arrived the service was much better and our order was taken right away. The server suggested 2-3 dishes per person to share. This was a great suggestion and ALL of the food was phenomenal! So much flavor! We started with the kickass papaya salad. It was simply amazing, light and spicy. The okonomiyaki is a must have! This cabbage pancake topped with the pork candy and an egg was out of this world! You have to try this!! The Sichuan chicken was the perfect amount with great flavor, you do have to pay extra for rice. Great little place bursting with flavor! We will be back!

I wish I could give this place more stars! Don't the outside look fool you...it is in an old gas station and looks a little run down from the outside. The windows are darkened so it is hard to tell if it is open or not. There was a sandwich board outside that clued us in that it was open. Inside there is a long bar, and several tables, but generally a pretty small space. We sat at the bar and could see the kitchen through and opening behind the bar (which I really like...love to watch the cooking in action!) The bar tender was very friendly and answered all my questions about the menu and provided recommendations. We had two cocktails while we waited for our to go order (cocktails were delicious). I truly cannot convey how amazing the food was. Best. Asian. Fusion. Ever! We had three dishes. The fried mochi dumplings, the braised brisket noodles, and the papaya salad. The fried mochi was so delicious...soft pillowy dough on the outside, and rich savory curry pork on the inside. The mochi came with this incredibly savory, and spicy green sauce. I wish I knew what it was called so I can order the sauce again, it was so good. I may have to call them to ask what the sauce is called. The braised brisket noodles had so much flavor...so many herbs, the beef melted in your mouth it was so tender, and the noodles were perfectly soft yet a little tiny bit chewy in a perfect way. The papaya salad was named "kickass papaya salad" on the menu, and it is true to its name...spicy, crunchy, tangy, sweet, salty, savory deliciousness! I would have eaten here more times while in Charleston...but they were closed on Fourth of July (good for them!), and since it was my first time in Charleston I did want to try a few other places. But, seriously...can't stop thinking about how good this meal was!

While exploring Charleston for the week, we were in dire need of some Asian flavors so we made our way over to Xiao Bao Biscuit. I really loved the gas station repurposed into a restaurant vibe and the interior + exterior décor. It was cute and charming all while the restaurant is nestled within a residential neighborhood. Ordered the jiao zi, bao buns, papaya salad, and pad kra pow. The papaya salad was my favorite, it was extremely spicy but so flavorful and refreshing. The bao buns were okay, mostly just bao and not much filling. The pad kra pow was alright, it got pretty salty after a couple bites. Not sure if it's cause we're coming from a high standard of Asian food but the food was overall, mediocre. The service on the other hand was great. Our server (can't remember his name unfortunately) was super friendly, helpful, and made the dining experience enjoyable.

I appreciated how they filled their spicy tuna rolls with chunky pieces of fish instead of the usual ground tuna used in other sushi restaurants. Their offerings and methods of preparation, paired with their higher price point, suggests they are a higher end establishment. However, the atmosphere was undoubtedly on the casual side, and their service, although friendly and knowledgeable, exuded a lack of experience and the same attention to detail that they put into their food. This was especially apparent after coming from eating at other restaurants in a similar price bracket, where you can sense the waitstaff had a lot of pride and passion for their craft, and it didn't feel like it was just a job for them. In contrast, our experience at Shiki felt far more transactional, and lacked that "customer obsession" and genuine warmth. That said, it's difficult to judge a restaurant's culture just from a single night, and maybe other customers had a different experience from us. Ultimately, if good sushi is your priority and you are willing to splurge a bit, Shiki meets and even exceeds that bar.

They exist, but some of the best are so unassuming you can walk right past them. Shiki is exactly that kind of place--a small, warm, inviting restaurant tucked into a strip mall that feels like a neighborhood secret. Loc, our waiter, greeted us as soon as we sat down with water, a friendly welcome, and a helpful walk-through of the menu. We started with wine and sake--always a promising beginning. The first course was seaweed salad with baby octopus, and I could have happily sipped that dressing like a cocktail. Light, bright, perfectly balanced, with tender octopus that added just the right bite. From there we decided to sample our way through the menu and ordered a lineup of rolls: Spicy Yellowtail, Spicy Shiromi, Rainbow, Spider, Lemon Salmon, and Eel. Each one seemed better than the last. The Spicy Shiromi was the clear standout--absolutely spectacular. What really sets Shiki apart is that every roll has its own distinct flavor instead of the one-note sameness you find at so many sushi spots. You can tell real care goes into the preparation. If you're searching for fresh, thoughtful, genuinely delicious sushi, don't overlook this little gem. Shiki is the real deal.

It didn't feel like a normal sushi bar where I felt like I was able to see the chef prepare the food I'm not sure if there was some kind of height disproportion or if the glass with food was blocking the way. The staff was friendly but there did seem to be some kind of miscommunication between the server and the chef when they were doing hand offs on top of the bar. It might be better to do food handoffs at the open corner to the side so the waitress didnt have to reach high and over customers although maybe it is different when it is busy since I was the only one at the bar. The food itself was delicious although I must admit I can't tell the difference between normal sushi. I would rate this as normal sushi. To put things in perspective bad sushi would have dried out rice or fish that tastes a bit off in a bad way. Amazing sushi would be something that just tastes so different but in a good way. Could be a cute casual date spot or even a friend group meet up spot. Keep in mind the space is limited but it shares the menu and space with Taste of Thai next door. I havent been into Taste of Thai yet so I can't talk about the spacing in there.
