I also found it extremely distasteful for them to have an employee promoting their funeral home while the coroner was still trying to put her body in their van. Classless.

It is like a bunch of rookies are running this mortuary. My sister's ashes showed up at my house…read moreyesterday, and I live in Michigan. I had to send the ashes to the intended destination, a funeral home In Youngstown, OH. The post office rep said that they did not ship them properly. I reused their shipping container, and our U.S.P.S. rep placed 2 cremains labels on the box, and charged me $48. This business paid the U.S.P.S. $28 to ship the cremains to me, with no return address on the shipping container. The paperwork inside said the ashes were from my sister, but where they really? When I called to complain, Rebekah was speechless. She certainly was vocal when she took my credit card number for the cremation. Rebekah was flummoxed using DocuSign for the legal paperwork, even though the DocuSign website was satisfied on how I signed and uploaded the documents. I confirmed the signed documents uploaded. Rebekah called and wanted me to redo the process. I told her to keep scrolling down on the document to find the signed copy. At this point in time, I am waiting for 10 death certificates. 1 is to go to my Grass Valley attorney, and 9 are supposed to be mailed to me in Michigan. I have told them TWICE of my wishes. I have NO confidence that they will follow my wishes. I have to travel to Grass Valley next month, and if they don't get this final task done, as I requested, I WILL be making a visit to the Chapel. They really should refund my $48 postage expense to correct THEIR mistake, but Rebekah was speechless, as I stated earlier. To repeat, I told her, and another person, and it was in the contract, that the ashes were going to our hometown for final disposition. I would NOT use their services again. P.S. My sister's ashes sat on the front porch for 3 hours before my daughter and wife noticed the box. Thank God our neighborhood does not have trouble with porch pirates. P.P.S. The owner of the Mortuary called me and apologized for the error made in shipping my sister's remain from California to Ohio. He said he would reimburse me for the postage. Rebekah called to tell me that the check is in the mail. She also called to confirm that my lawyer and I received the death certificates. They did, and they were distributed as I requested.

I told him I was thinking cremation but would not be making any decisions until I had a chance to talk to my adult children. He interrupted with "You have to have permission. " I said "What?" "You have to have permission to cremate" He then said he'd get back to me. I called a week later asking about whether he had gotten the death certificate signed. No, he said. He was still waiting. It then occurred to me he didn't have the information he'd need to put on there,and how would a doctor sign it without it being filled out? He asked again about what we wanted to do. I told him cremation. Again, "You have to have permission " Finally, I decided to call Holycross funeral home. I left a message and almost immediately got a call back. Yesterday I went in. He had already made the call to Lipp and Sullivan to take possession of my husband's body. He had all the paperwork ready for me to sign, and amazing many of my questions before I could ask. He was very irritated at Lipp and Sullivan for the way they made my family and I wait without any action at all. Losing my husband was difficult enough, and Lipp and Sullivan made it even more difficult . (NOTE: You do not need permissions to have your husband cremated) I Got the distinct impression that 1) He wanted to sell me a casket. 2) That he was old school and thought women should just go along and be meek. I'm not that way. I push back when I feel I'm right or someone is being taken advice of. I DEFINITELY would stay far away from them. It's hard enough to lose a loved one .Then to have a funeral during who shows no initiative, and no respect for you or your wishes makes it more difficult .

Since…read moremost Loma Rica and Browns Valley were evacuated, there were lots of us with no place to go to wait and see what was happening with the fire. The Yuba/sutter fairgrounds was great for us as well as our dog. We were offered food, drinks, snacks, and a cot for snoozing if we wanted. We were kept informed on the fire. It was perfect. Kids were happy, adults were all comfortable. What a blessing the Red Cross is during such a stressful time.
