We found this store when looking for hiking boots for my wife; I called Patagonia to see if they had any (they didn't), but recommended this place. As far as I can tell, this is the only place on the island that has them. So we went here for the boots. When I walked in, I was immediately impressed with what all they had. They had a pretty good selection of hiking footwear, though they had a lot more shoes/less boots than I'd expected. Still, we were able to get some we liked. We looked around and saw other stuff - walking sticks, clothes, camping gear, and in the back, an entire room of climbing gear (with climbing wall). We ended up getting the boots and a book on hiking trails on Oahu. The people who worked at the store seemed quite knowledgeable about hiking in Hawaii. Overall the store seemed good. The only bad thing was they seemed a little expensive, but then again, I don't normally go to stores like this, so maybe not. Regardless, without an REI or something similar on island, I think this is the best place to go on Oahu for outdoor gear; I would go here again. read more

This establishment just opened recently and will be a welcome addition to Honolulu. The staff are experts with gear and have good advice based on experience... not just the manufacturer's specs. I was fitted with an Osprey backpack for an upcoming trip in Japan. I've since trail tested the pack (and the gators, etc they recommended) and I'm impressed. I would like to say I would shop here all the time however, this store is pretty much a one and done store. Once you buy a backpack, you won't be coming back for a long time. Shoes you'll be back more often and their other gear even less. I prefer shopping local and wish I could shop here more often for hiking clothes but cannot. Stopped by today since they were listed on the Salomon website as a dealer. The gentleman with the beard (sorry didn't catch his name) was very helpful. Really broke down the difference between the different Salomon shoes and gave advice on which would work best for my needs. Been to several running stores looking for trail shoes to hike and run in, with now luck. Trust me! What other conventional shoe store list as "trail shoes" do not compare to what Uloha has to offer. The staff members at Uloha were super knowledgeable, and Uloha has everything you need for camping (and a lot you didn't know you needed). It was so helpful to test out the gear - they have a ton of camping chairs on display that you can demo. They were really friendly and patient when I asked a zillion questions about an upcoming camping trip. They also have a kama'aina discount! Great place! read more

Great little outdoor shop. Small compared to the mega stores o the mainland, but they have sufficient stock and selection. The best thing is they had the much needed camp stove fuel that I could not get via mail. read more

Holy Crap... its REI in Kakaako... wait... Uloha is better than REI! Accidentally drove by today on my way to ReUse Hawaii and shazaam... lots of climbing stuff for arborists and wanna be tree groms. Pretty much if you see it in the Wes Spur catalog or Sherrill Tree... these guys are gonna have it... well aside from a burly tree chipper. So great to find a place that sells "real" backpacking stuff and sold by folks that know what they are selling. Hope they offer their tree climbing classes again. Aloha Uloha! read more

I've been coming here for the past 4 months building up my gear for my upcoming multiday backpacking trip to Kalalau. From day 1, the staff have been nothing but nice and helpful. THIS is the place to get your Osprey backpack! They will measure you to your correct size to get the most of your pack. It is a small store, but has everything you need with a variety to choose from! From ultralight camp chairs to micro stoves, they have it. A great speciality shop so badly needed here in Hawaii. Today, I went in looking for new hiking boots and saw they hired new employees. Again, nice, friendly and very helpful. What I love best about this store, as small as they are, they have a great variety of hiking shoes and is well stocked on various sizes. As soon as I saw that this store sells ice spikes (for hiking in Hawaii) I was very disappointed. These things are eroding trails and marring rocks all over the island. They are ridiculously unnecessary and should be illegal. A little attention to sustainable practices would go a long way. read more
