This Ulta store opened long before the West Hartford location. I have been shopping here since probably 2012. At Ulta you'll find all of the latest in make up trends. From brands like Essence, to L'Oréal to Rare Beauty to Charlotte Tilbury, with new launches being released everytime I've stepped inside. The biggest attraction to an Ulta store is of course the wide assortment of brands that will satisfy any budget. Additionally they also have a hair salon. There's also skincare and fragrance galore. The ladies working here are very friendly and helpful. Not just at the register but throughout the floor. I will continue to shop at this Ulta of Avon. read more

Ulta is a beauty store selling drugstore and high end products. They offer cosmetics, haircare, and skincare at all different price points. They also offer beauty services like haircuts, eyebrow shaping and more. What I love about it is that they offer tons of sales and a rewards program. I've always shopped at Ulta, usually online. This one is well stocked and organized. I went in to purchase a foundation that was having a good sale. I love that they had samples so I can find the right shade. I will never go back ever again!! This is got to be the worst hair color I have ever had! It looks like I bought a box from a drug store and did it myself. I was also charged for a gloss treatment, which I did not order. This seems to be a trend at Ulta based upon other reviews. Is it legal to do this? Charge customers for treatments that they do not request? More importantly, my hair is a bleached, brassy mess. As you can see the photos I shared before my treatment do not look anything like the end result. My hair feels like straw in the ends are all damaged. I asked for low lights and a few highlights and this is what I paid over $400 dollars for. I don't even feel like I look like myself, so disappointing. I went in to look for a new perfume, because the one I love is made overseas and almost $200. On this fact finding mission, I learned much about Ulta, and also that it seems it's not too far above the going rate for perfume. They do offer a display section for perfume, as they do for every beauty product you can think of. Give them a product type, or give them a brand, and Ulta probably has it on their shelves. I did notice the lighting was kind of dark, no oppressive bright fluorescents bearing down on your skin. It was also kind of warm, and they really need to turn their AC on sooner (which I assume they do later in the summer. I hope they do!). The employees also seemed to respond to customers by type. I, a general shopper, was not of interest to the hair stylists in the back. I'd like to think they would have helped me if I had a question in their wheelhouse. The regular floor employees, however, did hunt me down again to see how I was doing. I finally decided browsing was more my speed, and found some fun face masks. While in the area I decided to stop here and I'm so glad I did. I've made online purchases from their website in the past but this was my first time in a storefront. The store supplies the same products that are available online, and at the same discounted prices. After walking around the store for a while and wanting to purchase everyting in sight. I settled for two bottles of OPI nailpolish (usually cost an arm and a leg) for a great price. I also saw some face and body products reasonably priced and do plan on returing to make some more purchases. This is definitely the go to store for body, hair, perfume and makeup bargains. I am new to the area and had the good fortune of having Ginialyn Guzman color my hair. It was so brassy and I have had the hardest time finding someone that Knows how to do a natural ash tone lowlight. She is the best! I lived in Los Angeles for almost 25 years and worked with some top stylists and she is hands down one of the most professional and talented stylists. She spent over 4 hours fixing my hair. She is so patient and my color matches my skin tone perfectly and also looks EXACTLY like the photo I showed her. I work in the area and often shop here on my lunch break and always find the staff friendly and helpful. I am going on vacation in 2 weeks and I hadn't had my haircut in over a year and my previous hairdresser gave me a scare with my last cut so I decided to try my luck at the salon at this location. I didn't want to cut off a lot especially before my trip but it needed to be cleaned up bad. I booked with Ginialyn (Gigi) and I'm so glad I did. She listened to what I wanted when I said to please not cut off too much and she recommended the Olaplex treatment when I expressed concern for my flyaways and damage. She was enjoyable to talk to and very personable and my hair came out looking and feeling great. The true test was this morning when I styled my hair. What a difference. I would give this place a zero... but since I can't, I'll give them a one. I walked in this store to browse products but was monitored by a sales associate from the minute I walked in. I felt like I was being watched and felt pressured to buy and interact with staff to not seem suspicious. I left there feeling uneasy and upset. The bright side is that I was given a great piece of advice that I didn't know I needed (and definitely didn't ask for) from one of the sales associate who was as pleasant as a wet mop: apparently I have to get eye brightening treatment for my crazy dark eye circles. Overheard two associates go on about having an attitude as I walked by, but said they were talking about someone else when I asked what was going on! This review is for the salon only. Booked a haircut appointment online for 9:00. Got the confirmation email. Drove to the store and the door was locked. Called customer service, and it turns out they don't open until 10:00. At 9:15, I get a call saying that the hair stylist called out. No one can take me until noon. I need to leave for the event I was getting the haircut for by noon, so that didn't work. Epic fail on so many levels. This was my first and last time trying to go to use an Ulta salon. read more

This review is for the salon inside Ulta. It's terrible. Their keratin treatment costs half as much as other salons, and for a good reason...IT DOESN'T WORK!! I don't know what kind of low quality keratin they're using, but myself and 2 of my friends with all different hair types all had the same result. Which is to say- NO result. Complete waste of money and 4 hours of my life! On top of that, one of their stylists was straight up rude to me. Never again will I go to this Ulta. I work for a major retailer and many of my better coworkers who have left came to Ulta. They love it so I had high hopes. Well. The kind of place where service really makes the experience. I came on a Sunday night about 20 minutes before closing. I was looking for a specific shade of nail polish. I circled the large nail polish section for easily ten minutes. This section was within eyesight of the register, where two associates stood talking. You know, I much prefer Ulta to Sephora, and am a regular customer, however while I was in today trying out nail polish with my lady family, a manager-seeming sort came over to say that unfortunately, for health reasons, we cannot try the polish before purchasing. Fine. But then she added that "this isn't a nail salon." Just that extra bit of sass caused us not to purchase any of the polishes (about 6 in total). Just saying: it's fine if it's a health policy. My daughter made an appointment online for hair and make up for her prom. When we got there, they didn't have her appointment in their records, but without hesitation they said "don't worry we'll get you in". After reading everyone's reviews, I'm honestly shocked this is how people feel. Dang, I'm so lucky to have found Veronica at the salon because she is wonderful. She is very talented and knows her stuff. She also has a very impressive background and she continues to do great things for this salon. I've always enjoyed my haircut and highlights. She shares with me cool things we could do with my hair for future appointments...if I become courageous enough to actually try something new. My only complaint about the salon is that they make you pay at the front of the store rather than just at the counter. It would be so much easier just to pay the stylists but oh well. Also a review for the store itself. I used to make weekly trips here when I worked in the area, during the holiday season when it was busy. Then came the off season. For starters: The employees are TERRIBLE. I don't know how on earth the company decides on their staff, but it just keeps getting worse. I have occasionally been greeted with a smile and a hello, and for that I commend those few employees. Every single time - EVERY single time my friend and I go in there, she is watched like a hawk. Including the first time she ever even set foot in the store. The cashiers are rude and do not make eye contact. The location is also extremely messy and disorganized. Yeah, I understand that makeup is small and in such a large store it is probably close to impossible to keep it neat. Yet... all the other Ulta's I've been to have managed, even some in a less affluent area. So one star just for those two employees who have smiled and greeted me when I've walked in. I wish I knew their names. 4 stars off for the rudeness of the staff and the disorganization of the place. DO NOT GO TO ULTA. I scheduled my first appointment to have my hair colored and cut in person in Avon Connecticut. Spoke to Maddy, she was nice and understood my hair concerns. She put me in her schedule in the computer. The day of my appointment I'm on my way (45 minute drive), I'm about 20 minutes away, I get a phone call from them that they want to reschedule my appointment 1 and 1/2 hours later. REALLY. I tell them I'm on my way BUT no one cared. Not a SMART move to try to impress a NEW customer. Needless to say I will NEVER be back and will tell everyone and anyone that asks to NEVER use ULTA. could the employees make it any more obvious that they thought i was shoplifting? i was there probably half an hour and was approached four times asking if i was doing ok. maybe the staff's just bored but seriously, please back off. one associate yelled from across the store to see if i needed help. if i need help i will certainly come find you. and this is a problem now at all retail stores but, it's really awful when you go to the counter to pay and the first thing you hear is "what's your phone number???" i know the tactic of asking that instead of giving them the opportunity to say yes or no. but it's overwhelming. and for the employees, if you don't get enough customers to sign up for credit cards, you lose hours on the schedule. the managers will constantly pull you aside to ask why you've only sold five credit cards today, like it's the employee's fault the customer doesn't want to sign up for another store credit card and is probably tired of being asked about it everywhere. ulta avon please tell your staff to take it easy and stop prioritizing your dumb credit card sales read more

I went here the other day just to browse around and one of the employees came up to ME and asked if I had any questions. So I figured I would ask what kind of moisturizer to use for my skin that is sensitive and gets clogged easily. She seems just really annoyed that I actually had a question and just sort of recommended whatever was in front of her at the time without any consideration and then went on to tell me that I have to wash my face every day and night. Ummmm obviously? I also showed her a hydrating mask I had in my hand and asked if was a good product to which she said "that's not a moisturizer" yes thank you for pointing out the obvious and treating me like a complete idiot. She really had no helpful or useful information and seemed like me not knowing much about the products around was a huge I inconvenience for her. Basically repeating on here what everyone else is saying. Not only is she excellent at what she does, but she takes the time to listen to what I want and my concerns, and works with me to achieve the look I'm going for. I get complimented on my hair almost everywhere I go, and I make sure to tell them exactly where I get it done and with who! This review is for the salon. I am so mad and disappointed. I will not be going back to this salon and I would not recommend them to anyone. The first reason Ulta has lost myself, and my daughter as customers is because of their complete lack of anything resembling customer service. The second reason is because they add services without informing you there will be an additional cost. The last reason is because when I spoke to the stylist about my discount she refused to give it to me because I didn't have the coupon. I don't remember her EVER giving me a coupon the only other time I was there. I do remember her telling me that if I scheduled another appointment I would be given a discount when I came back. I scheduled another appointment and then she didn't want to give me ANY discount when I came back. Really??? I have worked in retail and anyone that's worked in any customer service capacity knows that you give the discount. PLUS I had made an appointment for my daughter for highlights, so they were getting more business...from me. The stylist never asked her how many highlights she wanted. Instead she did her whole head, left the color on for too long, needed to use a toner then aksed her if she wanted a glaze. My daughter thought this must be included in the service so she said, "Sure." Guess what? It wasn't included, so she was charged an additional $40+ dollars on top of the already expensive whole head highlight price. She was given NO discount!! What a terrible experience!! When I questioned the cashier about the discount she said she'd go ask and left me at the register. She returned 5 minutes later to say I would get a 20% discount on my glaze, but not the color. Needless to say neither myself nor my daughter will ever go to Ulta in Avon, CT for anything ever again. If I could give one-half a star, that's what this Ulta would rate. Normally I like Ulta, but the ladies at this location were horrible. I entered the store and no one greets or notices my presence, nor the other shoppers. As I browsed, one associate by the wax bar looked at me and curtly asked 'can I help you?' The tone was actually aggressive, as if she was completely annoyed. Moving on. Approaching the cash register, I was met with an icy stare from the girl ringing up items. No pleasantries or even a hello. The only time she bothered to say something was to rudely demand to "not swipe the debit card yet," with a scoff. MY BAD. She handed me my small bag and as I left in disgust, two other store associates passed by me, gossiping amongst themselves, about what sounded like petty high school relationship drama. I tend to go to the Ulta Salon whenever I have a chance to get my hair cut. I had made an appointment, had it confirmed earlier the day of. I had to arrange for a babysitter in order to go get my hair cut. After Ulta confirmed the appointment with me, I reconfirmed with the babysitter. An hour and a half before my appointment, Ulta calls to reschedule for the following day. I understand that sometimes, things happen. But they didn't offer to squeeze me in anywhere that evening. If only I could give -1 rating.. Had terrible experience with my hair color.. I wanted ombré hair but what they ended up doing was 2 toned color which looked hidious with horrible red tint.. I paid about 180$ first time when I visited them but then color turned out barely visible. She said come again in next few days that's when my hair turned horrible red tint. I was polite to in salon to skip drying my hair as she was running late. When I came home I was furious. It's worst that I can't complain to anyone in ulta. This is good bye to their brand. I've been to much better Ulta stores in the past. Many of the products I wanted to buy only had one item left on the floor and they were open and appeared to have been used or tested. I would have given two stars based on this experience and the less than friendly customer service I received at the counter; but, I asked a team member on he floor if she could check to see if they had any more stock of a product I wanted so I am giving an additional star. While some product selections may be less than satisfactory, there still is a wide selection of top brands and drug store brands with a great return policy! read more
