One star is generous. I have been in this location many times (due to its location being convient) and can't say I have ever been greeted or asked if I need any assistance. The staff is always new, young, disinterested and could care less if you are there or not. Additionally I work for a cosmetics manufacturer and have been an esthetician for 23 years. This is not the level of service one should expect in a higher end makeup store. They argue about their own coupons and literally do not even say thank you for a 300.00 purchase. I've been going to this location for years but was disappointed by the sales tactics of one of the workers. I was just looking around in the skincare section, and an employee (I think her name tag said Lesley) came up to me and asked if I needed help finding anything. I told her I was all set, and that I was just looking, but then she asked me "what do you use to wash your face?" I was annoyed at this point because I had already clearly told her that I didn't need any assistance, so I told her I use soap in an attempt to get her to leave me alone. She said, "oh, don't use soap on your face, it'll dry it out" and went on to recommend a face wash. I found this very disrespectful and obnoxious and probably won't be visiting the skincare section at this location again. read more

Ulta really needs to teach its associates politeness skills. You don't creep up behind a customer and q tip shame them as they are removing a plastic covered jar of moisturizer! 'Remember to use a q tip' were her introductory words over my left shoulder. Of course I know to use a sanitary implement. I brought my 13 year old daughter into Ulta this summer with the intent to get her started with some basic makeup. We didn't need the full work up for something like prom, which was he only option available at the salon. We stopped at the Clinique counter and spoke with Elizabeth Davidson. She was a gem! She introduced basic skin care concepts and told my daughter about the need to wash her face two times a day, so that she would get less acne. She showed my daughter nice neutral colors for eye shadow and lip gloss. It was nothing over the top or over done that I wouldn't have approved of. She also asked my daughter if there was anything she had been wanting to try out. My daughter wanted to try eyeliner and Elizabeth helped her pick out some complimentary colors and steered her away from what was too much. She then to tell her that she was probably too young to wear eyeliner quite yet. They also talked about appropriate amounts of make up and colors to avoid for her young age. I am overjoyed with the quality of care and service we received. It was so nice to feel supported as a parent and to have someone outside of the family teaching my daughter the things I would have liked to say that wouldn't have been received as well because I am the mom. I went to ulta a few months ago to get an eyebrow waxing. Now I'm a little hesitant on getting my eyebrows done because for some reason what I ask doesn't get done. But at ulta they have a waxing station and the girl would did my eyebrows took her time and listened to what I wanted. And they came out beautiful!!! I was very pleased with my experience there and I will definitely will keep going back for my brows and haircuts. This is the place to go!!! read more

I've been coming to this location since it opened. I can't even count how many times I've been given attitude by the employees, or just been treated very poorly. The store itself has a lot of products which is good, but the employees are just terrible. There's been times that they've given me horrible looks, and accused me of trying to STEAL, which never happened. i also used to get my hair done here. NEVER get your hair done by ANY of them. I like this store but I agree with everyone else about the salon. I have gotten my nails done there a few times and had a wonderful experience the first time I went. However the next time I went for the UV gels the girl didnt set them properly, so they dented and bubbled the second I left the store. When I went back to the salon to get them fixed they didnt set properly again! I gave up after that.. also everytime im over in that part of the store I hear a customer complaining about the services to the people who work there.... read more

I have given this salon several second chances and shame on me for that! This last time the stylist didn't even bother to show up for my appointment and then the salon lied that they had left me a message cancelling, which they did not do. Many of the staff, including management, are rude and while my daughters have at times gotten ok service for an easy trim, we are done trying to get a professional result from a salon that very clearly doesn't know how to provide the services they advertise. I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Jessica for about 3 or 4 years now and I've never had a better stylist in my life. I get compliments constantly on both the style and her skill at coloring. I recently had to get my hair done as a bridesmaid in a wedding and the stylists at another salon all crowded around analyzing my color saying what a phenomenal job it was. It says something if even other professionals compliment the skill. To top it off she is just the sweetest person, I thoroughly enjoy every visit I have there. read more

I'm a fan of Jessica at the Ulta Salon. Not only do I love her sweet southern drawl but, I like that she listens to me. I tell her what I think I want and she offers a few creative suggestions. She is highly talented and artistic. When I leave I feel sparkly and young. I always get a top-notch cut and a beautiful color. I committed the egregious error of politely saying 'excuse me, could I ask you a question?' To a salon employee hairdresser in the back of the store. She berated me in such a rude condescending voice for daring to talk to her while she had a client that I am shocked she has any clients at all with that attitude. Unreal, unprofessional, and unacceptable. The rating gets two stars as the guy at the checkout was awesome and product selection was great. Prices were market value. read more

The manager I spoke to was great and she made me whole in addition to fixing my hair. Usually they do one or the other, but in order to fix my hair she had to take it even shorter, and it was already quite a bit shorter than I wanted in the first place. On the plus side, while super short, the haircut the manager gave me was top notch, no complaint there. So I am upgrading from 1 star to 3 stars. read more

Been going there (cosmetics) for years,and I recently noticed there was an improvement in their employees' attitude and customer service.

I'm super disappointed with this store. I used to shop there frequently but will make a point of going to Sephora in the future. The store feels more than adequately staffed but they are always too busy talking to one another to help customers. I had a recent poor experience at the register where I was waiting patiently in line when someone cut directly in front of me. The person behind the register saw me waiting the entire time, sort of did a "side eye" toward me (yes I am still next in line) and proceeded to check out the very rude line cutter instead! She should have said "I'll take the next customer in line please" (like even the associates at the grocery store have figured out) but nope, just rudely helped this other person instead. Someone else opened another register (finally) and started ringing me out, only to try to persuade me multiple times for my personal information after I already indicated I wasn't interested in joining whatever "club" they offer as it's likely only a matter of months before their systems are hacked. She then couldn't ring up one of the items I'd selected and I had to point out (after her several attempts) that there appeared to be something wrong with the bar code at which point she very rudely said (& very rudely had to show me) that I'd picked up a demo (which was in the wrong spot on the shelf next to three associates who were chatting away with one another vs. straightening the shelves or helping me find what I was looking for.) The register girl then asked if I wanted her to go get another one in the most lackluster "don't make me have to go back there to get this for you because you were too stupid to choose a poorly placed and badly labeled bottle" way. I thought, can't she just call one of the three chatterboxes to bring another one up?! I just left the item at the register and plan to pick one up at Sephora today where the customer service is actually just that; not some exercise is humiliation by a bunch of poorly trained teenaged girls who are working there solely for the employee discount. read more

(This is for the Beauty Store) My husband and I first visited the store last week. The initial visit was fine but I believe the layout of the store could be even better. There were too many products on the bottom shelf and it was too cluttered. The high-end products were organized though I think even the drugstore brands should be given organization priority. Our second visit to the store, however, left me in bad taste. I had to separate occasions where I had to ask 2 different saleslady for help and they weren't exactly happy. I'm not expecting a red carpet roll-out but a "more than happy to help" aura could have sufficed. I also didn't like the immediate response without checking the product first. When I asked this one lady about an item and she flat out said "We don't have that here." I politely said I saw one at the counter but I don't know where it was exactly. I had to convince her to follow me to see the product and when she was proven wrong, and that they do carry the product, she didn't even apologize. I know the store is big and there are a lot of products. I'm pretty sure if I worked there, it would take me months to memorize every single product the store carried. Isn't the standard answer "let me check on that...I'm not sure if we carry that item" much better than saying "We don't have that here"? When my items were being rung, the same girl I asked previously was next to the cashier attending to me. There were items on Clearance but they weren't appearing correctly. I asked the cashier if the item was't included B2G2 and she politely said no. She then asked the girl I mentioned above for help to ring up the items correctly and she immediately said "NO, that item is not B2G2." OK. I get it. It's not. That's not even the question anymore. She asked for help to ring it correctly. To sum it up, I don't think I'll ever go back to this store. My husband was disappointed with the customer service and felt bad that I was treated that way. It should have been a happy experience since cosmetics are my biggest splurge. However, if that's the customer service then I'll be more than happy to bring my business somewhere else. read more

I've been to this store many times but never had my hair or make up done so I decided to give it a try. My eye brows came out amazing and so did my make up but my hair came out awful! All I had done was have my hair blown out by Maria and I asked if she could give it volume and when she was done it was pin straight and you could feel over usage of product. I'm going home to wash it now coz it feels disgusting. I'll NEVER get my hair done here again. Beyond dissatisfied! I was not going to write a review but it is 5 months later and I am still dealing with an awful haircut given by a newly appointed educator at the Avon location. I feel like I was a test drive for a haircut I did not ask for- my total head cut with a razor.( mind you,I have course, wavy hair). Before this debacle, I had gotten a couple great and a couple good cuts from her. My advise to Ulta clients is to never assume, relax, or feel that your words are repetitive. Keep on top of the Stylist as to what you wish and demand that she gives you the time that you paid ($$$$)for. My advise to ALL Ulta stylists- be mindful of your clients wishes and NOT what you are having for lunch or what your co worker did last night. That is so annoying but more importantly, disrespectful. Also, Ulta Corporation, why is it ok for your employees to talk on the phone or text during working hours? Isn't "service" the name of your game? read more

This is the closest Ulta to my house. It is also the worst one in the state due to their limited selection and blatant disrespect to customers. I really should just take the extra 20 min drive to plainville since the selection and customer service is enormously better. As a certified professional, i am at Ulta ALOT. I easily spend $100+ a month at this business. And now that's over. I am done with this store until there is a new manegment team in place and the associate Holly is fired. The fact that i know awful associates by name says enough about the business. I don't think I've ever been to this store and this girl has not had an attitude or make me feel like I'm bothering her. She TRIES to make me feel inferior about my product selection because I'm not a fan of benefit ( can you really blame me? ). Her attitude towards customers and other associates is disgusting. There is no excuse other than very poor managers that fail to act as such if they allow such an employee to work in their business. Working in a salon in the area i hear numerous horror stories about this girl and the hack jobs she has done on people. I will not be supporting a business that supports this kind of behavior and lack of talent. Do not go to this store unless you want to be ripped off. I received a 25ml bottle of Dolce & Gabana Light Blue perfume for the holidays. It did not come with a gift receipt. When I went to the Avon, CT store today to inquire if I could receive store credit for the item, I was told that they would need to look up the buyer's membership info to confirm the price. Well unfortunately, the buyer did not use their card (though they are members). So, the clerk offered me the "lowest" sale price from the previous month, which came out to about $2. They currently sell this perfume in their stores for $57. It is unbelievable that they have such a poor refund policy as to basically give nothing back for a product that they sold to my family member for much more. That is basically stealing. I find it very hard to believe that they really sold a $57 bottle of perfume for $2 to someone during the holiday season. Furthermore, if as part of their returns without receipts policy, they require the membership number of the buyer to validate the sale price, then they must also require customers to use their membership cards when purchasing items. If they don't enforce membership during initial purchase, then they can't in all fairness require it as a process for refunding costs. Also, the label on the bottle clearly had their store name printed on it, so it isn't even as if they could claim it was purchased elsewhere. ULTA has just lost a customer for life. I will never step foot in their store again and I will tell my entire family to never buy gifts there again. This is why stores like Sephora will last much longer than their company ever will. Sephora has exceptional customer service and provides returns/merchandise credits with no questions asked. I would rather give this bottle of perfume to a homeless person on the street than to give it back to ULTA for $2 measly dollars. I know they would just turn around and put the item back on their shelf and sell it for $57 again. Shame on them. read more
