Everyone there is fantastic. Shout out to Ashley who is my colorist and haircut person; however, they all work as a team. There is a separate room for coloring where you sit with others sipping tea or coffee or help yourself to the massage chairs in a beautiful historical room filled with light. The hair washing is in a separate tranquil meditation room of wooden panels, calm music, and cozy seats with a fireplace for more ambiance. It is the best 10 minutes! Update 9/23: I went to make a new appointment on Monday, for today. I unfortunately have missed it due to life happening. No way of being on my phone to call to cancel and no way to get there! I was informed for the first time 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment that they have a policy for no shows. I was never informed of this before and think it's kind of underhanded that I'm being punished because I'm in a car accident and cannot get in touch. And all in all sneaky that I've never been told of the policy. ‍ Then they tried to tell me my reality was wrong and that I just didn't hear them right. I remember exactly how my first appointment went just two months ago. I was told to put a card on file for "hands free transactions." Sounds suspicious. Was looking for a new salon that was closer to home that could handle super curly hair (if you know, you know!) and stumbled across suggestions for Jessica's Color Room. At the time of making my appointment back in September, I was 7 months pregnant so businesses that are overly COVID-cautious are a must for me. Calling to make my appointment was no issue and I answered a few questions similar to what I do to visit my doctor, AND as a bonus to me, they took my payment information down so that we could be contact-free when on-site the day of my appointment. The salon was super easy to find and parking was great. Upon entering the salon, there is a hand sanitizing station they ask you to use and I was taken immediately to sit at the salon chair. BY THE WAY, the salon is beautiful and clearly very-well cared for. All staff were wearing masks and were beyond friendly. My appointment was with Jill and I cannot say nicer things about her! She was great, very helpful and made sure I was liking the direction of how my haircut was going throughout the appointment. Even though all I got was your basic haircut, getting a haircut I love with my curly hair is a rarity, and with Jill, I loved it. Will absolutely be returning to Jessica's Color Room! read more

By far, the worst hair salon experience of my life. I went to get highlights done for the first time, and asked for a deep caramel color to compliment my very dark brown hair. Instead, I got stringy white blond streaks that dried and damaged my hair, and just got worse as time went on. I almost cried when I saw what they had done to my hair, and the stylist played it off saying "Omg it's soooo cute!" Due to Covid, I couldn't get them fixed for months--and when I finally did, I definitely didn't return to this salon. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

I have to say that I do enjoy Jessica's...the service, the wash room, and the lovely ladies who take care of me and my hair needs. But to be completely honest, my ongoing negative issue is with Jessica herself, the woman who owns the place. Yes she's kind, but I often get the feeling that she doesn't really care about some things that are important to her customers. I've been going there for about 5 yrs., and she never remembers who I am. I started out going to her shop in Middletown, and now go to her new place in Cromwell. I think by now she could try to remember my first name. Also, on a few occasions, I've had to call and reschedule an appointment. She would say she changed it for me but NEVER actually made the change. So when I would show up, Jessica was never there and of course none of the ladies in salon knew I was coming in as it wasn't in the system! And they were the kind ones apologizing and scrambling to make it work for me. They ALL worked together to fit me in and not have to send me home. I am grateful and appreciative of them. But I hated how Jessica made me feel, which was that I didn't matter. These are things that are important to your customers. Your staff are the ones who know this. I am highly disappointed and will not be returning. First of all, I was over promised for the color of my hair. I was notified of this during my appointment and I said okay. I have been going here for 4 times spending 250$ each time and was told over and over that this color was achievable. I got back to my car after this last visit and was astounded how they thought it was okay to send me out. There are so many brassy tones in my hair and I was supposed to get a full bleach to all pieces of my hair with a dark root. My hair strands underneath are still BROWN. After 4 times and this amount of money I figured I would have at least even toned hair if I couldn't get my hair color right? I guess not. I called to complain about how upset I was because I really enjoyed having Frankie as my stylist . Jessica said there wasn't anything she could do for me except have someone else work on my hair but "what I wanted still might not be achievable". So now I am disappointed and out 250$ for an uneven brassy mess that I am getting fixed elsewhere. I tried to call again to speak to Jessica to see if I could atleast get half of my money back and they said she would get back to me. Two days later and still no call back! When I entered (15 min. late), I was greeted with smiles and offered a drink. I mentioned that I was using a Groupon, and did not feel as if I was treated any differently. We chatted while I filled out my "new customer" paperwork. When I was done, I was brought to the back for my paraffin treatment, hand massage and shampoo/deep condition. Don't be fooled by how pretty the look of the salon is because the service is horrible. I went there because it was close to home that was a big mistake. My first appointment was canceled and it was canceled 2 hour before the appointment. The second time is when I meet with Rachel. Really nice lady but I clearly told her I was doing foils she said to me oh that will takes hours. Clearly she didn't want to deal with that so she tells me I should just go all blonde. My roots were dark I told her I have never been a full blonde that unless she 100 percent sure she could guarantee me an even color I would be ok with it. She confirm with Jessica and the garnet me everything was going to be ok. NOPE! I was left with patches I reached out to Jessica she had me come for a second time but it was worse. I ended up going somewhere else to get it fix. Do to this I have so much breakage and damed hair. I emailed Jessica about this with pictures and receipt from the other salon.I requested for her to please refund me the money back. To all you woman looking for a new hair dresser!! Here is a shout out. What an experience at a hair salon.

Bought the LivingSocial deal and came for highlights, cut, and 'T3 experience'. Got in the door and was nicely greeted by the receptionist and was offered something to drink. The salon looked nice and modern and they only use Paul Mitchell products. I intended to come in for highlights but got persuaded to get a base color as well. They stylist ran off to mix my color and started coloring. I wanted a full head of highlights especially done at the base b/c i always pull up my hair. She said too late I already colored it with the base color. I ended up only getting half head highlights. The T3 experience is just a special tea tree line that makes your head tingle and smell minty. Nothing special that other salons don't do while they wash out your hair. I went back to the chair and she proceeded to cut my hair and I said whoa, can we talk aboit what cut I want first before you cut? Anyway, the cut was great but the color wasn't exactly what I wanted. She did offer to re-tone the color for me another day. I came back for the re-tone and within a day or two it went back to the same brassy color I didn't like. She did a fantastic job teaching me how to style my hair though. I went to pay and ended up forking $98 for a base color. Which was way more than a base color should be. Jessica, the owner is really nice, and sent me home with a gift set of PM products. Then, I checked their facebook and realized I should have paid 50% less for my hair color. So, if you must go, check their website and facebook page first. This place is okay, I've definitely been better places. The work is fine, and when I've noticed mistakes I've called and they've fixed them free of charge. However, whenever I'm there I do feel like I walked back into high school and I'm trying to eat lunch at the popular kids table without being invited. Super clicky and super fake. My recent hair horror story. Asked for highlights on my roots but they did what they thought was best and did something different. Also I asked for lighter hair BUT NOT PLATINUM. My hair comes out orange on my roots AND platinum on rest of hair. They attempt to fix it next day but leave me under a dryer to get the color to process quicker but that Burns my scalp and I still feel irritated two days later. They said it was their "least harsh product" for hair. They put a toner in my hair so it would be less platinum but it will wash out in a month. PAYED $300 FOR EVERYTHING (shampoo, conditioner that hopefully helps the colors, hair cut, color, tip) and next day everything was free. Not to mention I over-tipped by accident because I wrote check wrong since a "discount" was applied for first time and only had one check with me. I also showed pictures and explained how i wanted it. And BLEACH ALL OVER MY SWEAT SHIRT. ALL I WANTED WAS HIGHLIGHTS ON ROOTS and MY HAIR TO NOT BE AS DARK BLONDE. I am giving two stars because they really attempted to fix for free but still it came out all wrong and caused my scalp lots of irritation. Pictures are with toner and without. All I can do now it wait for it to grow out and fix it some how. Miscommunication is a huge thing in most salons and I think it would be better to have a scheduled consultation for a half hour before getting it done. Going forward I hope they are more aware of when they sit people under a dryer because that stuff burns. Also be way more cautious of the product, and get better body smocks for customers that is thicker.. so it doesn't bleach clothes. And also, just do what the customer asks for!!! Don't just do what you think is best because the customer knows their hair better than anyone else. read more

Don't be fooled, DO NOT GO HERE! The first time is great and everyone is really nice, complimentary hand wax and free samples at the end. I went for the first time a couple months ago and had a great experience, then I started hearing terrible things from friends who had gone for second appointments. They WILL charge you more when you go back the second time. Both of my friends who referred me to the salon were charged significantly more the second time they went and by reading these reviews it seams this is a common practice at Jessica's. One was charge $10 more for a trim and the other over $50 for a color, she had to argue to pay less. They also lie about their referral system. I was referred by friends to this salon and stated their names upfront when I scheduled my appointment, no "points" were applied to their accounts and when they tried to utilize the points for a discount they were told that I never said anything. These occurrences has led me to cancel my scheduled appointment, I will never return to this salon, as businesses like this should NOT be supported. read more

I visited Jessica's Color Room yesterday for the first time and I am so happy I did. Rachel was my stylist, and that girl knows what she's doing. Her confidence, finesse, and warm personality made my experience so comfortable and enjoyable. You know that feeling you get after you receive a mediocre haircut, they turn your chair to face the mirror, and from that moment you try to convince yourself you like it? I feared that... especially since it was my first visit to the salon. And especially since that's happened to me more than once in the past. That did not happen, but here's what did: I visited the salon because I wanted a short hairstyle (a pretty drastic change from lower back-length hair), and besides the initial snip ("bye-bye long hair, it's been fun"), my experience was stress-free in Rachel's hands. The washroom was so relaxing: a quiet area with flickering candles and dim lighting. Included with the hair wash was an excellent scalp massage and a paraffin wax treatment for your hands. I also got my eyebrows waxed while conditioner was left on my hair and my head wrapped in a soothing warm towel. Returning to the chair, Rachel took great care in creating a hairstyle that would make *ME* happy (that's not always the case with some stylists). She also took the time to style it in a way that I felt I could do daily. Needless to say, I loved my experience there. I wish I weren't moving to the other side of the country, because I'd book an appointment with Rachel every couple months for sure. I don't have any idea what previous Yelpers are talking about- Jessica's Color Room is hands down the best salon I have been to. I used to salon hop using Groupons to get a good deal until I found this place. My stylist Rachel took her time and listened to my hair issues (flat and straight, no volume) and cut my hair in a way that addresses this. She even recommended great products and have me styling tips. If you are in a hurry this is not you place - a partial foil and cut takes about 2 hours - but you get a free paraffin wax on your hands and a scalp massage during shampoo. It's heaven! I've also never had a problem with prices and they often offer little promos where you can save $5 or $10 for a Facebook check in and the like. This place is great! read more

I can't even believe this place is still in business! It is the worst most over priced salon I have ever experienced. I came here for a typical haircut along with high and low lights. I specifically made it clear (and you can obviously tell from my current highlights) that I like them NATURAL which means THIN streaks of color. Long story short I walked away looking like a SKUNK!! I had multiple thick thick wads of blonde that didn't blend. I expressed my unhappiness but they didn't seem to care. I have been here 3x. First time I had a Groupon & saw Greg. He explained break down of price (I wanted extras and wanted something totally new) and I left absolutely loving my color and cut. A few months later, I got a phone call from the salon offering a discount if I made appt that week. I couldn't get appt with Greg again, so my appt was made with Brionna. She was super nice (as she is every time I was there!) and my haircut was great. The only disappointment was that my colors weren't written down from my first appt so I kind of had to guess. The color wasn't as vivid as first time, but it could have been BC I chose wrong colors. which was frustrating, but I understood it wasn't her fault. The 3rd time, I made an appt specifically with Greg, and when I showed up for appt, he was not there and my hair was done by a different girl (Christina?), with no explanation as to why I had someone different (was he sick? Did they mess up? I double checked my appt card later and it said Greg). She touched up my color, it was eh. My haircut was the WORST I have ever had in my life. There was a giant chunk taken out of side and one side was longer than other. I called back and the owner fixed my hair. She agreed it was terrible, and even took a picture. She fixed it, but unfortunately had to take a lot off of my length. The fix was free and I was offered a $20 credit for next time. I've been debating on going back, but decided I'd go back and state I'd only see Greg, however, h is no longer working there. So I don't believe I will waste my time. They are expensive. Shampoo and free paraffin hand wax was great. Very relaxing and person doing it was friendly. At the end I received a free bag and product. These were the things I enjoyed most. As for the rest, I was extremely disappointed and left in tears. I showed a picture of a previous cut, I explained what I was looking for and thought I was thorough. We didn't talk much and there were many awkward silences. The only time she did talk and smile was when she was trying to sell me products. Didn't seem like there was much cut but waited until my hair was dried. The dryer burnt my head a few times because she held it too close at times. I had a gaping hole in my bangs that I asked to be fixed because it wasn't styled anywhere near what I had in the first place. I was truly shocked at the lack of style more than anything else. No flat iron or hairspray. Just a basic blow dry that left my hair looking really choppy and uneven. I even had split ends that were not cut off!!! I ended up going home right away and took a shower because the hair itching my neck and shoulders was insane. I went online to find a great place in CT to get a basic haircut. This place had some good reviews and I thought going with someone with many years of experience was a sure thing. I was wrong. So very wrong. read more

I was a bit hesitant because I've been going to same salon for years, but I was pleasantly surprised! Everyone was extremely friendly. I had the pleasure of having Brionna as my stylist and let me say... SHE. IS. AWESOME! She did an incredible job on both the cut and color (ombré), and she is so sweet! She even took the time to teach me a few things about curling hair. I'm sure everyone else who works at this salon is great, but I am planning on going to her and this salon as long as I live in the area! read more

I'm not one to write reviews but when I do you better bet that they did an amazing job! I am extremely picky when it comes to my hair, aren't most of us? It makes me cringe just thinking about haircuts and hair color. Hence I haven't had one in two years before this past October! My first time this past October was astonishing! I was looking for a trim and ombré, and it came out breathtaking! In fact I'm still getting compliments even months later! Jamie was extremely professional, explained every little step, which I like so it shows me that they know what they're doing. She tried her best to get it to the exact color I wanted, but didn't make any promises she couldn't keep.
