I'm a mid-30s guy and at beginning of pandemic, I decided to evolve my skin and hair care routines. Going to Ulta is a great place to LEARN about what works and doesn't work for you. However, I would not recommend consistently BUYING here. The sales people always upsell you for the most expensive product that meets even your basic needs. Consequently, my strategy is to buy a few things (including the expensive stuff they recommend), try them, and return what I don't like within 30 days (they let you do this with any product even if you end up using most of the product). Surprise- usually the expensive products they initially pitch are what I end up returning. Idk if this is how the whole beauty industry works, but if if it is, that leaves me with a mildly icky feeling. But I have to give this place 4 stars for letting me learn this with their generous return policy! read more

I waited to write the review to see how well my hair would look after couple of months, and still looks great! I love how she highlighted my bangs! Wow. Talk about incompetent. I came here today which is the last day of the Back-to-MAC program to donate all my empty or expired MAC products. 2 employees had no idea that they even participated in the program. They called their manager over who told me it's the last day for the program. Duh, that's why I'm here. She let me know I can only trade in the empties for lipstick. Okay, so I go to grab my 4 lipsticks (trading in 24 containers). She looks at my containers and tells me that they need to be empty and my containers still had product in them. So I told her that I think when they say empty, it doesn't mean literally. And she exclaimed "I know what they mean, but they're strict with us that it needs to be empty." I have worked for MAC previously, as well as Macy's and Nordstrom so I know the policy pretty well. She snapped at me "I'll just do it because it's the last day." Um, okay. I have never had any push back for their recycling program before and this manager makes me never want to frequent this Ulta again. She was rude and condescending. read more

As a secret shopper makeup enthusiast I went in this evening. Wasn't greeted or even asked if I needed assistance. I then saw someone and asked for assistance. I explained I didn't see the color I was looking for and if she could check store stock. Before even checking to see what color I needed she shook her head no. Odd right? She goes to check and doesn't see any. I asked could she check the closet store and she replies "do you know how to use the app". I said yes and waited for her to check. Obviously if I wanted to use an app I would have, I need to make sure it's there by calling store to store. She then checked and told me it had been discontinued. I said that's odd because I'm an avid makeup enthusiast and haven't heard of a major brand discontinuing. She then walked away, not even a "let me help you find an equivalent". I got in the car and checked the Ulta website and app, it's in stock at every store around this location. It takes 2 minutes to assist a loyal customer and shopper. HORRIBLE customer service from the manager! I went in to make an online order return and hoped to find a better shade match in-store. The cashier that assisted me was very kind but her manager was right behind her slamming cabinet doors -- so aggressive! Both the cashier and I were clearly uncomfortable. She then needed his authorization to complete the return and he had us waiting for so long.. which is fine but he was just off to the side chatting and clearly ignoring us. The cashier kept apologizing, and I let her know it clearly wasn't her fault. She was clearly uncomfortable and intimidated by this guy.. how could she not be?! I was given store credit and went on my search for a replacement but ended up leaving empty handed. The vibe of the store entirely was SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I couldn't get out quick enough! I'm not sure how or why a manager doesn't know better than to behave so poorly?! I went to the Redondo location and the experiences between stores was night and day! I didn't feel the need to explain but did anyways I was simply in the area and didn't see what was wrong about making my return there. I absolutely LOVE this Ulta, the entire staff is always so welcoming and friendly!! They don't hover over you, I always have a pleasant experience here. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY GIRL IZZY THO!!! Besides the fact that she's such a kind beautiful soul, she was SO INCREDIBLY helpful. She was able to color match mine and my sister's foundation PERFECTLY all while giving us other options for different finishes. She was so dope!! I know that this is Izzy's job BUT Izzy carry's it with such ease. She didn't make us feel like she had no other option but to help us because she's "clocked in." This Ulta store is top tier and the people who work her are incredibly helpful. I was looking to stock up on makeup and needed a mini lesson. There's an easy to use appointment booking system or you can call. Allison also does brows and she's professional and kind. I would definitely recommend her. She did my brows on a follow up appointment I made with her a week later. I honestly can't say enough about her skills. She maps the brows and understands how to make you look your best. read more

My rating is for the salon! My 17 year old daughter booked an appointment for a style for Prom. She was using her own money and felt so good about handling it herself. When she was in the chair her stylist told her that her was was a little uneven did she want it fixed? She said yes figuring it wasn't anything extra - she should have asked! They charged $57!!!!! Just to trim a little off - no wash, no blow out just a quick snip! I think the price should have been discussed prior to a $39 style!!!! I was even shopping while I waited and had been engaging in conversation and it was never mentioned to me either; I think that any additional service should be price quoted before proceeding. This is for the salon, not the store. Drybar was full and I'd had a good experience with a trim and blow dry at the MDR salon so I booked at 2:30 trim and blow dry. I had a 5pm event to attend. I got a call asking to push back the appointment until 3:30pm. I said OK but explained I needed to be done by 4:30. The woman said OK. Got to the salon at 3:25pm. No one there to say hello, no one to check me in. The person who called to change the appointment must have seen me standing there, but nada. I looked around the salon. All the clients were mid-service & had wet hair. ALL of them. Not sure how the stylist who was supposed to cut my hair at 3:30 planned on getting that done by the time I had to leave at 4:30 since she wouldn't begin anywhere close to on time. And she told me she could do that when I agreed to change the appointment to 3:30. VERY NOT cool. Of course, I left. No way to be late to the 5pm event. Super annoying. Came here for hair product and was taken care of by a very talented gal named Rochelle. She approached me asking if I needed help finding anything and told her my hair had not been cooperative for months and was looking for a new hair product. She told me a trim and moisturizing products would be helpful. She took the time to give me a nice trim with layers (I have curly hair and people usually mess this up) and did a wonderful job. JADE WAS SUPER HELPFUL & sweet. I got the sense she was newer because another older lady Blanca was just not speaking to her with a certain respect I felt. Which isn't really cool. But Jade was helpful to us. I tried to use a coupon with Blanca and it didn't work but she didn't mention that it didn't work she just gave me my total I was like oh ... you didn't even say it didn't go through.. ( normally ulta employees would say oh I'm sorry that didn't go through did you have another one) but no. I was actually stoked to have another Ulta near me since I'm always going to the one by South Bay Galleria. I came in thinking my experience would be amazing but I thought wrong. I came in and nobody greeted me, which Ulta employees usually do, at least at the other locations. Not one employee asked me if I was doing ok, if I needed a bag, NOTHING. I'm more than sure employees saw me since it was pretty empty. The only nice one was the cashier, sucks I didn't catch her name. I think I'll be sticking to my OG location. This is a long-over due review for Joanna. Came here a few months ago on my way to my friend's wedding. I was desperate for someone to help me put on some lashes because I'm useless when it comes to those things. Because of COVID, Ulta beauty experts weren't allowed to put them on for me, but Joanna was so incredibly kind and helpful. She walked me through the process and was so patient the entire time. Avoid if you have curly hair. I wanted advice on products to use for curly hair, and the salon said they booked me with their curly hair specialist, Lynn. Lynn had a rude demeanor, asked me multiple times why I was there, and ultimately knew nothing about curly hair. I asked what to do if I woke up with frizzy hair and she said to comb it out dry. Which anyone with curly hair knows is the worst possible thing you can do.... Highly recommend going elsewhere if you have curly hair read more
