This is not a salon review. I've never had anything short of awesome at the salon. The store side is a different story. I've been a platinum member of ulta for like four years now. I come to this store a lot. Every time I come in, the employees will stalk you. I went in one day to buy pretty much new everything, which took two hours roughly. I'm not kidding every single employee approached me multiple times. Finally when I decided to humor one of them and tell them I just like to take my time and swatch the products to make sure they don't oxidize she goes "haha oh okay literally all of us where wondering what you were doing" like, its a cosmetics store, I have a store bag, and just my wallet in my hand. I clearly couldn't steal this stuff even if I wanted too. There are a few good people here with customer service qualities but I usually don't count on it. There is also an INCREDIBLY pushy woman who is always around the philosophy items. I like the philosophy skin care but every time I go in to get a refill of a product I can hear her pushing the products on someone else (and she does it in a rather crass and demeaning manor.) read more

Any time you go in there and need something, they are out of stock. The shelves are usually empty. Also, the girls at the check out are air heads. Nobody knows anything. Of course, the right side of the store you can't use any coupons. For that matter I will go to a department store. I find that store useless. I only go there if I can't find it somewhere else. read more

Product wise, no issues! Staffing wise, oh my... Well to keep it short and simple unknowledgeable, rude, and honestly need some pointers themselves... majorly. Thought I would give the brow bar a test and walked out with thick sharp edged straight rectangular bars that resembled bar-codes packed full of powder that was entirely too dark... Seeing that was after the fact of overly stressing I prefer a thin round arch. Ummm yeah, so for simply shopping for product it's great but beauty service wise? Think again! read more

I've been on travel for work for six weeks and was long overdue for a haircut long before that even. I woke up this morning, tired and cranky, but finally home. Grabbed my phone off my nightstand and booked an appointment for the first time at Ulta. I was greeted by my stylist, Ciera (May have spelled that wrong, sorry) She was amazing and exceeded my expectations by far. From the luxurious wash/massage, to a absolutely nailing the cut I pictured in my mind, but had trouble verbally expressing, I left so happy, no regrets for the spontaneous decision to go way shorter, and booked my next appointment with her. Not pleased with this place. Went there awhile back on my day off. It was a rainy cold day so I was on lazy mode that day. Didn't seem to want to dress up or put my makeup on... But it seemed that the employees didn't like that. - Came into the store and wasn't greeted by employees, just a glare. - Walked around trying to find a employee to help me out with a certain shampoo. Then when I found one, I saw she was helping another customer so I waited until she was available, then when she was done with the customer she turned around and saw me standing there waiting, she quickly ran in the back avoiding me. - Then I saw what looked like manager at the register area so I walked towards the front waiting for check out as I wanted to discuss how I felt. As I was waiting, I was looking at the side items they had for sale in the front. It seemed that this "manager" was pleased and happy to assist other customers who came in with their face all prettied up in makeup and high end clothes. When it was my turn to be rung up, the "manager" didn't even give me eye contact nor did she say she was ready to ring up my items. I walked up to her and asked what the deal was, she quickly looked up at me and started ringing up my items. I got her name and sent in a complaint. My only good review is that they have a great selection of shampoos and conditioners. Luckily I only spent under $4 from that visit. If they weren't a bunch of cocky jokes who limits their customers looks, I'd be a daily happy customer. read more

I always forget how much I hate ulta until I'm inside one. I never buy anything here, it just reaffirms that I need to make the effort to trek to a sephora. This place is a lot more like a huge overpriced drug store than a beauty supply. read more

Non-prestige brand areas are constantly in shambles. NYX, especially. Testers are always missing, lipsticks are paired with the wrong shade labels, and the staff will tell you that "they probably haven't opened the new shipment box in the back" for three days straight when you ask if they have a particular color in stock. Slow, SLOW checkout - there are usually three girls standing up at the registers but only one of them is addressing customers. I heard a staff member say to another once that she refuses to do her job because she's allergic to makeup. read more

After reading the reviews below I was afraid to go to Ulta Frederick but I needed to have my eyebrows done (I love Benefit and it is the only one close by) so I gave it a shot ... And I am glad I did !!! First she does an amazing job! I showed her a picture of what I wanted and bam! She did it on me! Oh and I did not have an appointment, she took me in right away. An other day I came back for hair services, let me tell you I am extremely picky when it comes down to my hair, I moved from Hawaii 1 year ago and where I used to go I would pay $250+ for cut and accent highlights (well worth it) so I show up to Ulta Frederick (no appointment) and ask when is the soonest I can have one, I explained her what I wanted and she told me she has one opening in 1 hour! I got everything I wanted that day! And it looks really GOOD ... How and my final bill was $83 !! For a cut and accent highlights. I will definitely be going back! Somebody said something about the lady with the red hair, her name is Ally (not sure the spelling) and she is from Scotland, she is really helpful in my opinion! Helped me pick my first Clarisonic, Mia 2 with products, my face has never felt that clean/soft! I went back a week ago asked her for a moisturizer ... Same thing, help me to pick one (didn't try to sell me a crazy high price one) and work wonder! I only have nice thing to say about Ulta and the staff!! I highly recommend that place! I went a few weeks ago to get my hair colored by Vicki. The appointment was a last-minute decision because I gotten some bad news and I was pretty upset-I deal with upsetting news by getting my hair colored, lol. Positives: The color is beautiful, she took her time and got every strand of my thick hair, she checked in on me while the color was setting into my hair, and told me why I shouldn't go with the blue-black hair color. Negative: I was driving home to see how much of my hair that I needed to finish drying (since she partially dried it for me) and felt some greasy spot in the back by my hair line at the bottom of my head. I ignored it and thought "Screw it, it's almost 9 and I will just braid it and sleep on it." I got home and my husband complimented me and asked if I would go again. I told him, "Eh, maybe just for the color and I'll go to my regular girl for the cut." But when I placed my hand back onto that greasy spot again, I took my hand out from under my thick hair and saw brown dye. I freaked out telling my husband I had to re-wash and dry hair because she didn't wash the color out of my hair! Had I have not touched that part of my scalp, my darn hair would have fallen out. So, ladies - be careful! Vicki is great - just make sure when you get your hair colored by her, make sure she washes your WHOLE head. Went to visit my bestie in Fredrick and we ended up at Ulta. I was looking for eye shadow glitter glue and the sales lady did an outstanding job helping us find exactly what we were looking for and than some other things. The lady at the register was also really nice and helpful with the get it and go items by the register!!! Been to other locations and this one is by far my favorite!! read more

I come here on a weekly basis. I'm always greeted at the door by a friendly associate or by one standing behind the cash wrap. I have never had issues with being watched or maybe I'm just quite oblivious. I often spend time in there randomly browsing and have never had any rude associates bother me or stand over my shoulder. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences here. All the associates are professional and kind and answer any questions I have. One thing to note is I came in with a question about a foundation and I asked an associate if it would be good for my skin type. She answered yes and then started laughing obnoxiously with another customer when I wanted to know if she could color match it for me so I could buy it. Needless to say I didn't end up with the product. Other than that I've had nothing but good experiences here. Love the store. It's so clean, well organized, and usually well stocked. I prefer this over the small cluttered Sephora in the JC Penneys. They always seem to be understaffed. read more

I was worried about coming here after reading the bad reviews, but I had a good experience here. Everything was well-stocked, and the people working there the day I went were friendly enough. I talked to Rebecca, the esthetician there, she talked me into getting a facial. I really enjoyed it and she helped me pick out products for my face since it tends to be overly dry. I definitely recommend seeing her, she seems very knowledgeable. She offers waxing too (face only). I liked the fact that I didn't need an appointment to see her, but it's probably best to make one in case the store is busy. read more

As for the store itself, it is great. $31 for a 3 year-old's mediocre haircut is assanine. It took less than 5 minutes to trim the ends. The prices are not posted anywhere, so I should have known. read more

I shop at Ulta a lot and decided to try the salon for a full foil and a trim. First of all, my hair color is ridiculous. My roots are a light ash blonde which I asked for but the rest of my hair looks like it wasn't touched so now I have like a reversed ombré. If that wasn't enough, I have lines throughout my hair including one right in the front which keeps me from being able to put my hair in a ponytail cause it's the first thing you see! Now on to my haircut, the worst layers I have ever seen. They are choppy and it looks like she just took chunks out of my hair! The left side towards the front is missing a huge portion and there is no way to fix it unless I cut another 3 inches off! The way she styled it made it hard to see these things while I was there but once I came home and straightedges it, I was so embarrassed to go out in public! After buying shampoo, I spent $240 for something that I am embarrassed to look at. read more

Terrible customer service. Double charged me for Amazing Grace set. Noticed as I was walking to the car and went right back in. No apology offered. Sales person went through my bag to make sure I didn't have another one. She then said that maybe it was time she went home because she was doing dumb things. Yeah....no kidding. If the manager at this shop is still Tina...steer clear! She and her management team are a customer service nightmare. On multiple occasions, I've experienced them behaving rudely to customers with returns, customers with questions, and customers in general. The staff receives little to no training on products - unless they work in the "Prestige" cosmetics section. What a shame - there are some real gems among drugstore brand products, but the staff is not informed on these brands, at all. It seems their main function in the store is to stock shelves, not to be friendly or knowledgeable. read more

Out of all the Ulta's I have been to, this is the worst one yet. First of all the employees stalk you throughout the store, not needed. Then about a week ago I returned a lipstick I was not satisfied with. I told the employee I used it and she checked it, then another employee proceeded to put that SAME lipstick I used back on the shelf for purchase. If you purchase anything here, please check the product you are buying! I'm highly disturbed by this and will not be going back to this location. read more

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the other reviews. The customer service at Ulta is horrible. I've never seen such inept cashiers anywhere before. I was in a couple months ago and asked about an item that was on sale. I showed the sale catalog. When I found the item, I went to check out and was informed that the sale hadn't started yet. They couldn't have told me that when I inquired? Well, that's apparently par for the course. Today, I was there and it wasn't any better. It seems that the front desk personnel aren't trained to deal with customers. I think I'll buy my beauty products elsewhere. read more

They jacked up my hair looked like a child cut it. then I got kicked out when 2 large service dogs saw each other and mine freaked out with a single bark and I had him under control. If it wasn't for the amount of cosmetics I wouldn't be shopping here. I'm probably going to start shopping more at Sephora, online and any other Ulta around... read more

I don't know what to say about the other reviews here, but I will say this: this location is better than others within driving distance (*ahem*Rockville). They almost always have what I need in stock, there's always someone there to ask me if I need help (and I've definitely gone in yoga pants, a t-shirt, and crappy old TOMS with no makeup on and hair in a simple ponytail), and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for someone to be at the register. I've visited mid-week, weekends, all hours, and the service is relatively consistent. The store is kept tidy. Things are relatively easy to find. I have no problems with this store and will continue to drive a half hour to give them my business (because they make it worth it). read more

Any review that is positive at this location must be written by an Ulta employee. The inventory is non existent. They are ALWAYS out of something I need and proceed to tell me to order it online. In that case, just close the store, because most of the employees in this store are rude and have no answer to the lack of stock. read more

I had A very incompetent and rude experience here. A lady by the name of Carlotta worked with me and was overall bitchy the whole time. I will never speak to her again, as she disappointed me majorly. She was a horrible salesperson and I don't look forward to going back. Just OK. Smaller and not as well-stocked as most other U. stores I've patronized. On most occasions one or more items I need are out, or I've managed to grab the last one. As in most Ultas, clerks are often confused/unsure of what they're doing. And the make-up on the employees is usually quite thick and often comical! read more

I think this Ulta store is great. The hair salon has been better than most that are a lot more expensive. They did a great job straightening it and it was a $100.oo less than any place else. Their are always specials going on. Have recommended it to lots of friends. read more

I had decided to get my hair cut at the last min, I had heard a friend of mine Adrian Wastler was the manager. I have known Adrian for a few years and always loved the way she cut and colored my hair. I called the Salon and Adrian was off that day, I decided to go anyway and ended up seeing Lacy, she did not exactly what I asked for and I absolutely love my hair.. Lacy was very professional and friendly!! The prices were more than reasonable!! From now on I will not go anywhere but Ulta to get my hair done!! Thank u so much Lacy, u r Amazing!!!! read more
