I then picked up almost $60.00 of stuff, mostly smaller item. The person stocking the shelves was up at the cashier and told the cashier that I may have pocketed or lifted an item. I told the shelf stocker I found the items I had been looking for and paid. Not only did the cashier give me a bag that was much too small for all the items I had, but she had also a given a previous customer a larger green bag who had the same number of items, she repeatedly scanned the bag to make sure they would not trigger the alarm when I left. this indicated to me she expected me to trigger the alarm with some item I tucked away and could then say it could NOT have been an object in the paid for bag. I walked out with no alarm sounding. I believe I was being profiled and that most likely while the focus was on me there could have very well been someone else ripping off the store.

I have over the past year spent good money there, however, it was only my last most recent visit, a very professional woman with a kind of Jamaican accent gave me good service...gave me a frequent buye card and a free sample of sulfate free shampoo. Before that I was not greeted nor given any kind of recognition like that as a frequent professional customer. Didn't even get a bye or thank you...in fact, the other girls wouldn't even verbally tell me the total price, and was just I guess expecting me to just look at the register screen in front of me. So I liked her a lot. I am a white girl, and there are times I go in there and feel I am being snickered at, getting looks like, wtf is she doing here, but I dont pay attention to that. They promised a call back today. This morning, I tried calling to start the process and speak to that person, but my calls kept going unanswered. After multiple attempts, I called back from a different number, and suddenly, they answered, only to give me more runaround. Why should I have to chase them down just to cancel a membership? Why only one person there able to do cancellations and why must I have a conversation to do it?! I do not owe an explanation. Hand & Stone makes it painfully complicated to cancel, and it shouldn't be this way. If you sign up, just know that when you want to cancel, they'll make it as difficult as possible. I wouldn't have bothered writing this review, but their shady business tactics pushed me to warn others.

The form for cancellation was sent and never signed; primarily because I had a great massage and decided to eliminate another expense and keep my membership. I never signed the form and my membership was canceled anyway. I spoke with the manager the same day and she assured me she would reverse the cancellation and restore my points, circa 7500. if she did none of this happened. I left at least 5 messages recounting what happened, asking for assistance without any response or action at all. I emailed the corporate office. I was supposed to have a massage today. However, I was told I am no longer a member and the last two packages on my account were discarded. So now I am out around 160.00 and have lost 7500 points due to a paperwork error and managerial incompetence. I have left another message this morning for the awful manager without response.
