I do NOT recommend getting a haircut from Sella B. at the Grossmont La Mesa Ulta Beauty salon. I came in asking for simple long layers, and I left with horribly choppy layers that will now take the rest of the year to grow out. I got this haircut on March 16th, and I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding on May 16th -- my hair still looks awful. Honestly, I had a bad feeling from the beginning of the appointment. While washing my hair, Sella stared at my face and randomly asked, "Do you wax or thread your eyebrows?" I already knew my eyebrows needed shaping and had an appointment scheduled elsewhere later that week because I was attending a bachelorette trip. It felt unnecessary and rude. She also asked what shampoo and conditioner I use. I told her Bumble & Bumble and Redken All Soft. She immediately responded with, "Do NOT use Redken All Soft." Then, at the very end of the appointment, she reminded me again: "Remember, no more Redken All Soft." Like... lady, I've been using Redken for 10 years at this point. I think I'll continue using whatever shampoo I want, thanks. I literally did not ask for your opinion. I also repeatedly explained that I part my hair on the side and that I previously had a bad haircut that ended up lopsided because stylists ignored my side part. She laughed and said she had been doing hair since she was a teenager and "wasn't going to make it lopsided." Unfortunately, that confidence did not match the result. During the haircut, I could literally feel that something was going wrong. She kept cutting more and more layers, and I started getting nervous. I again mentioned my side part multiple times, but it felt like I was completely ignored. To be fair, I will say this: if you go to this salon, be EXTREMELY specific about what you want and bring photos. I came in with my hair up in a messy bun and simply said "long layers," which clearly was not enough guidance for this stylist. At the end of the appointment, I was visibly unhappy. I actually took the comb from her myself and parted my hair the way I normally wear it. Her response was, "You like your hair flat like that?" Then, after I had already told her multiple times that I wear a side part, she suggested that I should just part my hair in the middle instead. Like... what? I obviously part my hair on the side because that's how I LIKE my hair. Who even says that to a client after giving them a bad haircut? Meanwhile, she had already started cleaning up her station while I was trying to fix my own hair in the mirror. We were also the only people in the salon at the time -- no other stylists, no manager around. I still paid and tipped before leaving. Later, I filed a complaint with Ulta and spoke to the salon manager. The manager was kind and asked me to come back so she could try to fix it. Realistically, the only way to "fix" this haircut would be to add back the hair that was cut off, but she did try her best to blend the choppy layers. I appreciated her kindness, and she even comforted me while I cried in her chair. I also received a full refund. The manager handled the situation professionally. The next day, I actually went to a salon in Oceanside to get my hair balayaged/colored, and even that stylist agreed that the haircut looked bad. Honestly, everyone in my life who has seen my hair agrees that this haircut was poorly done. What makes this even more disappointing is that I usually go to the Mission Valley Ulta salon and have had good experiences there. I was excited to try the new Grossmont La Mesa location to save myself an extra 10-minute commute. Biggest mistake of 2026. Now I'm stuck growing out a terrible haircut for the rest of the year. Stay away from this place for haircuts, and do not book with Sella B. unless you are extremely specific, bring photos, and are prepared to advocate for yourself throughout the appointment.

The receptionist is nice here. I had a fun conversation with them before I left. They have pretty good skincare here that I want to try. I go because I have bought packages and they have comped services due to either overbooking and I couldn't get in to the actual service I came in for OR machine not working, OR they've ran out of needles for the microneedling! I wish I could make this up but this is all true. I've just walked out of the building and attempted to do a PRP with microneedling. The lady was really nice and jolly, but seems scared to proceed. But we powered through and I made sure to use the lowest power just in case. When it came to drawing the blood for PRP, it was a difficult feat as it was hard to work the vial the blood was going into. I've had to hold the needles in my vein while she grabbed more vial to draw the blood in. I'm an easy stick and we've had to try 3x. She was kind enough to ask if we could try and I didn't mind but I do think it's lack of training as I've never had this issue before. There are new staff everytime I come here and it scares me everytime but I have so much services I still need to use. Needless to say, this visit was another comped service due to another mishap. Not sure how they stay open really.. but how do I get my money back because all my services had been questionable. I do feel bad for the sweet girl, she tried, and I can tell she was flustered.

I had a microdermabrasion facial with a peel & my skin feels renewed, hydrated, clean, & plump! Instantly, you are welcomed with soft music & a stress relieving scent. Stephanie radiates healing, helping, knowledge, & professionalism. Blown away by the type of quality of service that Stephanie provided to me. When I walked in I was greeted warmly, then proceeded to going to aid in the other room, she advised me to takeoff my shirt because she incorporates her massage expertise into her facial routine for clients, then she cleaned my face to strip oils, lathered on some delicious-smelling lip balm, steamed my face and neck with a warm towel, and proceeded to applying 3 layers of the acid peel. Then, she massaged a bit of my shoulders and neck, and even my scalp (hence, why the hair be messy) while the peel was doing it's thing. 45 minutes in, I was a happy camper and will be back very soon, now I know I can buy a package deal instead of a single treatment and it'll totally be worth it! I know not many brown males like myself get treatments like this, so if you found it helpful, please help me raise awareness by indicating that you did in fact find it helpful. Cheers to self care ‍
