Unfortunately, I have to give a 1 star and 0 if I could. I am probably the LEAST picky person you will ever meet when it comes to getting a haircut. My hair grows extremely fast and my cuts usually only consist of a trim and maybe...MAYBE light layers. I purchased a groupon with Janelle for a wash, cut and blow dry. I have attached photos of my before and after. My hair before was even, healthy and obviously well taken care of. I left the salon with sharp, uneven layers and tons of split ends. My hair wasn't even dry all the way when I left. When she gave me a mirror to look at my hair, I wanted to cry but held it in. Still tipped and left but I will never go back. read more

I was super excited based on the reviews, but I'm really disappointed. I showed up on time for my appointment and somebody came out and said my stylist would be right with me. I sat around for 20 minutes and I never saw anyone again. Nobody ever came out or said anything. I was left there waiting, my only option to go into the salon and wander around to try to find somebody to talk to. But by that time I was so ticked off I didn't even want to be there anymore. And it sucked because if they had at least just come by and told me they were running late I totally would have understood. read more

I saw Cici recently and was so uncomfortable. She's nice enough, but she talked the whole time about super inappropriate topics and assumed I agreed with her. I didn't...at all. The "bums" as she called them on the street in reference to homeless people. That this neighborhood is "great because people go to church". She also referred to people of color as "colored people". This isn't 1950 and I didn't appreciate the assumption that I hold the same 1950 conservative ideals that she does. It's not comfortable to disagree with the person holding the scissors near your head. Bummer- this place is super close to my house, I really wanted to like it. read more

I had an excellent experience here! I came in to do some corrective color. My hair had a lot of brass color in it when I wanted to go platinum blonde. I was also doing a drastic change in my hair style. Going from exceptionally long hair to a shoulder length with some layers. Carol, the owner (with 30 plus years experience) took excellent care of me making sure I reached the color I was looking for and taking the appropriate steps to insure there wouldn't be any breakage from the bleach. They might sell Aveda, but this does not provide an Aveda level experience. Through some miscommunication, I was there 40 minutes early. It took 20 minutes for them to even check and figure out that my appointment was different than what I had thought. In the whole 40 minute time I was never offered a water or tea or any kind of hospitality that I have experienced before at an Aveda salon. My stylist, Becky, walked in about 5 minutes before the appointment, and she quickly got started. I was not offered any of the services I have been offered at other salons, like a head/neck massage, or hand massage or any other kind of treatment. The whole experienced felt very rushed, with less than 5 minutes spent on cutting, then a quick round brush blow dry, to the point that my hair was still slightly damp as I walked away from the chair. She even made a comment that sometimes it's nice when her clients don't want her to dry their hair, making me feel like this was putting her out a bit. It's no wonder I felt rushed... the next client was already ready to go only 30 minutes after my appointment started. Overall, I think my hair is fine, but I also think I might have gotten a similar level of care from the SuperCuts down the road. I did have a positive experience before with a different stylist, but I was not given her as an option when I called. read more

Not only have I been blessed with both Carol and Becky's hair skills, I decided to try out the individual eyelash extensions that Becky knows how to do. She did a fantastic job with my eyelashes; they look full and it has been about a week and they are still looking fantastic and holding strong. I barely have to wear any makeup anymore because my eyes stand out more without eyeliner. I get compliments everywhere and people think they are my real eyelashes. The process was fun, we talked and laughed and she did the application with ease and confidence. I am looking to make this a regular thing as it will save me on eye makeup! On a side note: Back in June, Carol cut my hair very short as I was going through chemo treatments to make the drama of hair loss less scary. She did a great job doing exactly what I had in mind and I got to enjoy a flirty haircut before it fell out. I hate leaving negative reviews when the staff was very cordial and pleasant. The young lady that cut my hair just did not do a very good job. I even had to go back and have her do it again and it still was not good. I have been cutting my own hair for the last couple of years so I'm not that picky, but she really jacked up my layers. She made the front layers longer than the back layers and it just does NOT look right. Also, I agree with a previous reviewer that this salon is LOUD! Full of cackling women and not very relaxing. Ruth has been my hair stylist for years. She listens to what you want and asks questions to make sure she's got it. She's got good advice on styles that will/won't work too. We actually have her on retainer since my husband likes to get quick trims frequently. I usually need an early morning appt and Ruth is always up for that. Go see her! Becky did my make up the morning of my sons wedding. She was super fast and the price was reasonable. I loved the end result and I think I'll go back for a lesson so I can learn to do it myself. I first met Carol Valdez (the owner) in 2009 when I was ready for my first haircut after going through chemo. She took time with me to discuss what hairstyle she thought would look best on me before she started. At first, my hair would not take the color because of all the meds from my chemo treatment, but she was determined and didn't give up. After the 2nd try and 3 hours later, it worked and she even gave me some highlights. My hair looked beautiful and I received many compliments on my new hairstyle. I was very thankful to find this salon. All of the women here were helpful and kind. I came in after a Summer of mistreating my hair to salt water and chlorine. My hair was so dry and damaged I thought I would have to cut it all off. Thankfully after a deep conditioning treatment, cut and style my hair was like new again. I would highly recommend Janelle Fernandez. She's fantastic and gave me a great cut! The only reason I can't give 5 stars is due to the fact that I was a little shocked over my total price at the end. GULP! However, it's the San Diego area so that is to be expected. Back in April I was convinced I wanted to go "el naturalle" and after loving my new look, I was easily persuaded to change my color back to the light brown and blond highlights for a trip of a lifetime. Now after much thought and contemplation, I was ready to try again. I found a process that I call a "reverse ombre" with the light on top and then my natural color on the bottom layers.
