Minus one star for the employees who seemed more interested in talking with each other than helping. After a few minutes of wondering, I had someone ask if I needed help. She was unable to assist but found a color specialist to help me pick out a new foundation. I believe her name was Riley and she was very helpful. She was able to test out a few foundations and we found the perfect match. I even bought a foundation brush that she used to apply my makeup; it felt so good as she applied it on my skin. I ended up buying that even though that's not what I came in for. She was even helpful with picking out a new primer which unfortunately they were out of stock, but she recommended a few places I could find it. I ended up coming back the next day to wonder around. They have a great selection of perfumes. I picked out a few I plan to buy in the future. They don't have celebrity fragrances but the selection they do have is great and plenty. I came in a few days ago and the gentleman with eye shadow asked me if I needed help. I declined at first but then went to the "expensive" side. I wanted to know the difference between bb cream & cc cream so when I saw him walk passed I asked him if he could help, he gave me an attitude and said he'll be back around. I didn't know whether he was helping someone else or not. When he finally came around he was being very short with his assistance. When I asked him if I can test the sample I have medium tanned skin he basically told me for his safety I cannot test anything on my face. I said that he wouldn't be touching my face or be anywhere near me, I'll try it out myself. He refused again for his safety. I have no idea what corporate was thinking with this rule? If you want a satisfied customer, let them try the damn product! Anyways, Sephora now has my business. Never coming back here. read more

A few friends have repeatedly recommended Ulta's salon to me, and today I finally went. The biggest reason for my visit today was that I NEEDED a trim before my trip tomorrow, and they could get me in at the same time as my canceled appointment at a salon nearby ;) Sonja did a great job cutting and styling my pixie cut, and was friendly and personable the whole time. She also recommended a styling spray I'm eager to try when I give it a go myself tomorrow. And the whole store-in-the-same-place deal? A blessing and a curse. My haircut cost less than usual, but I made up the difference with an eyeliner someone else recommended. Oops! I also liked that they could put my tip on my credit/debit card. A lot of salons have you pay cash for the tip, which has frequently caught me by surprise, since I don't usually have cash with me. read more

Had hair and makeup done at this location for my sister's wedding. They totally surpassed all my expectations! I said I wanted a modern take on Audrey Hepburn - Breakfast at Tiffany's and they totally nailed it. The only problem is I can't remember the names of the stylist and makeup artist, but if I can find out, I will update. I cane from Canada for the wedding so I didn't have a trial or anything and the whole experience was awesome. Busy atmosphere, but awesome service and final product. read more

I went to this Ulta location a while back. My sisters and I were looking for a birthday gift and we were looking to get a full face of makeup products. While we were looking for things one of the managers comes up and asks us for help. Since we had already received some help from one of the kind team members, we politely declined. She comes back around like 10-15 min later ask us for help again in a passive aggressive way this time. We decline and continue to look around. She comes around a few minutes later and tells us that they're closed and to go to the front with our items. I wish she would have been nice about it, but she was really snappy about it and was eagerly rushing us. I can understand she wanted to go home but she was very snappy with all the interaction we had with her. I should mention that we were under the impression that they closed at 9pm on a Wednesday (per their hours listed on google, maybe Covid changed that? )but later found out they close at 8pm and we had already stayed a little past closing. The girls at the cash registers were lovely and very kind but definitely seemed a little frightened of that manager lady) Can't say the same about that manager. As she was walking us out she had the audacity to suggest that one of us took something (a lip gloss that my sister had taken out of the bag and was atp holding in her hand) I told her we did pay for it and that it's rude for her to assume we wouldn't pay for it especially since she was watching us the whole time. This Ulta is right near my house so it was my go-to but I gladly make the 15 min drive to another makeup store because of this experience. Horrible salon!!! They botched my hair! I had my hair all the way down to the middle of my back, and I said leave it long and I want a long asymmetrical bob. She cut my hair all the way up to my chin! Then chopped it up! It looks nothing like a bob! My 12 year old niece could have done a better job. I expected more going to a salon, but I got a $10 hair cut for a $40 price! I don't think she knew at all what she was doing! It's going to take a year to grow back my hair!!! The Salon at Ulta in Auburn Hills is literally your one stop beauty destination ! I have been here 3 times now and I have been 100% happy with my hair, my nails and my beauty treatment. The staff is very attentive and they listen. If you aren't happy, say something, they will correct it & not treat you poorly because you didn't like something they did. Hair, Sonia all the way. From the moment I sat down the first time, she made me feel comfortable and really listened to what I said. She also shows you how to re-create the hairstyle at home, which is HUGE! Don't book an appointment with Dru. I was looking for a salon and I thought I'd give Ulta a try. All I wanted was a conditioning treatment and a simple trim. When I first met her, I saw that she was older. I thought that was good because it probably meant that she was experienced. However, I soon found out that this just meant she was stuck in her ways. The trouble began with her combing my hair when it was wet. At my previous salon, the lady damaged my hair when she tore through my hair with a fine tooth comb and I was too shy to say anything. But since I was paying way more here, I decided to speak up. I asked her if she could start at the bottom and use a wide tooth comb. She pulled out a regular brush and said that this is what she always uses. I said that I would rather it be a wide tooth. She sighed! And then she said she didn't have one. So I told her she could use mine that I always keep in my purse. She didn't seem happy. Then she parted my hair not in the correct spot. I always wear it down, parted right in the middle and I told her this. She redid it, but it still wasn't correct. I didn't want her to cut my hair with this part being off and then have my hair not be even once it's parted how I always wear it. So I just said that I'll do it. Not to be rude, more to be helpful, because she couldn't get it and also it was important that it was done right. Then I caught her rolling her eyes. Next, I wanted my hair literally just cut straight across on the bottom. She starts sectioning off pieces and the last thing I wanted was layers. I explained how I normally get it cut. And she proceeded to tell me that this is how she cuts hair and this is how she's gonna do it. I had no say in it! Stuck in her ways... I also wanted my hair to be cut with my hair tucked behind my ears. I always wear it tucked and it will not be even if it's not tucked behind the ears. She did not like this! She said she's never(!) cut someone's hair like that. She did not want to do it! This is not how it's done! I told her that she may not like it, but this is my hair that I live with everyday, and this is the way I like it. "Sorry" it's not your style, but it is mine. And again with her sighing. When paying for the service, I had a 20% off salon service because I was a first time customer. (And last time.) There is a price set for a conditioning treatment and a cut in one. Instead of giving me 20% off this price, she divided the services into 2 prices, that you would pay if you just got one of them. Each costing more this way. Then she gives me 20% off the cheaper one. She totally ripped me off with her switching the prices like that. When I got home and my hair fully dried, I noticed that it had a hint of red. I'm a natural blonde. This treatment she did, literally made my blonde look dull and not as bright, with hints of red! I was so upset. Especially since I paid so much. Never again will I go there. There salon is so rude to there customers, I had made two appointments and cancelled then within two weeks, and 24 hours notice. Then the appointment that I made on the 30th where I had the 150 dollars to drop on a full set of highlights I received a call from the salon manager named Andrea who so rudely informed me of a policy of a customer cancels two time then they will be labeled as walk in only, and that If I was planning to cancel this appointment please give them 48 hours notice. This woman was so rude when I told her to cancel it and I'll go somewhere else she laughed and hung up the phone. They claim that they are protecting the stylist paycheck but in reality all they did was lose money and turn me off from ever setting foot into that store again. Not to mention the sales people are beyond rude to the customers. I honestly just hate shopping at Ulta. read more

Today I went to Ulta Beauty to get my very first dye job. I've only been to this Ulta twice before but both times I really enjoyed my experience. I arrived at 9am and did not leave until about 2pm but that is because I have very thick, long hair. Jennifer was my stylist and she is amazing! She has a great sense of humor and I appreciated how she explained how she was going to wash, dye, cut and flat iron my hair. My appointment went on longer than they expected but Jennifer handled it with ease and had other stylist wash or flatiron my hair so that she could attend to her other clients. The other stylist are very nice and took time to compliment me throughout my hair dyeing process which really assured me and gave me confidence. I have naturally curly hair and have never felt safe going to a salon for a trim because they tend to get very scissor happy. But I trust Jen very much with trimming my hair because she knows what she is doing. I would gladly recommend Jennifer to anyone who is looking for an amazing hair appointment! The price was pretty high but with my amount of hair and all that I had done as well as the fantastic service. I believe it was money well spent. read more

Never have I imagined as an adult I'd be walking out in tears from a hair salon. A simple trim to maintain my long bob turned into a 1995 wispy yet blunt short layers haircut with blunt side bang Thats the best I can describe what I'm currently sporting on my head. It's impossible to curl it, straighten it or blow dry it without having apparent "steps" in my hair. I recently moved to the area and thought Ulta would be a safe choice. Thanks to Dru, Ulta hairstylist, that almost had me convinced that's the haircut I wanted despite having showed 2 pictures (side and front) at the beginning of the appointment, I now will be wearing a pony tail for a good portion of the year to grow out this monstrosity of a haircut. read more

Bad experience that got worse. If you want to feel like us have had your hair done at a beauty college make a appointment at Ulta on Baldwin and ask for Djuan. Stylist was more than15 late for the appointment, staff lied and said he was setting up, when he started doing my hair he Wanted to talk about his cell phone being off and him having to drive to Flint to pay on it. When the drying and styling process began, he didn't have clippers (I have a mid length bob), burned me twice with the flat iron, then when he was finished. I was shocked and beyond aggravated. As we all know, Ulta's very expensive. As I go into Ulta, I am purchasing a $42 palette. I am checking out with this $42 item, with a $10 off coupon. The cashier hands me my change, I am putting my money back into my wallet after I left the store, I realize I only received $11.08 in change. I picked a seat at Panera and sat down, looked at my receipt, and realized I had been bamboozled. I was supposed to recieve $16.08 in change, I was scammed out of $5. I was meeting a friend at Panera, so I did not go back to Ulta to correct this mistake right away. I had gone back to get my money back after about 2 hours after I had purchased this item. My friend and I arrive at Ulta, we had to wait in line, even though we were not purchasing anything, only correcting a mistake that shouldn't have happened in the first place. We get called over to a register, we simply explain the situation to the cashier, she says that she has to check the security cameras, which confused us because it was very clear that nobody would be able to see how much change was given through a security camera. After about 15 minutes, she comes back and says to us that the picture wasn't clear enough to see the amount of change given back. She says that she has to count the money in the register. She then has to wait for the same cashier that made the mistake to get off her register, whichh took about another 5 minutes. This takes about 10 minutes, she finally realizes that I had NOT received the correct amount of change, and gave me my $5, nothing compensated for our time wasted waiting. Now, if Christine had done her job, this would not have happened in the first place. The mistake was corrected, but a simple math mistake should not have been made from a cashier if they do their job correctly. read more
