I'm honestly very disappointed with my recent experience at the Manteca Ulta salon. I have been going to Shanti since I was around 16 years old, and she has always been someone I trusted with my hair. In the past, she has taken my hair from brown to blonde, so I felt confident going back to her for a blonde balayage. This time, however, I went in specifically wanting a blonde balayage and was left with barely any highlights and not the brighter blonde look I had asked for. I called the next day and asked to speak with a manager because I was unhappy with the result. I was told that adding money pieces would give me the brighter look I wanted. Although money pieces were never something I originally asked for, I trusted the salon's recommendation and returned the following day to have them added. Unfortunately, the money pieces turned orange. At that point, I went back into the salon again hoping they would take responsibility and help resolve the situation. Instead, I was told that I was essentially just looking for "complementary services" and that the most they could do was tone down the orange. I was also told that if I wanted anything else fixed, it would cost another $300, despite the fact that I had already paid $300 for a service that did not give me the result I originally requested. What is especially frustrating is that I never originally wanted money pieces. I only agreed to them because I was told they would help achieve the brighter blonde look I wanted. I trusted the professionals to correct the original result, and unfortunately that correction created another issue. I also asked about receiving even a partial refund because I did not receive the service or result I paid $300 for, but I was told that wasn't an option. Instead, I was told that the money pieces and the subsequent color change were considered "complementary services." From my perspective, these were not services I was simply requesting for free -- they were attempts to correct an outcome that I was already unhappy with after paying for the original service. I have been loyal to Shanti for years, which is why this experience was particularly upsetting. I understand that mistakes can happen with hair, and I wasn't expecting perfection. What I expected was accountability, communication, and a genuine effort to make sure I left feeling happy with my hair. After speaking with multiple people, including management, I unfortunately felt like there was always another excuse for why nothing could be done. It left me feeling as though the priority was protecting the stylist and the salon rather than making sure the customer was satisfied. A salon's job is not only to provide a service, but to make clients feel confident and good when they walk out the door. I don't feel that happened here. More importantly, I don't feel that my loyalty as a longtime client, my concerns, or the way I left feeling were taken seriously. I'm sharing this respectfully because I hope Ulta and this location can use experiences like mine as an opportunity to improve how they handle situations when a client is genuinely unhappy with a service. Customers should feel heard, respected, and cared for -- especially when they have been loyal clients for years. Unfortunately, after this experience, I do not feel that this location demonstrated client loyalty, client respect, or genuine care for how I left the salon. Love this location..everyone is super friendly but huge Shout out to Casey and Mari, and Arlene, the Clinique consultant. Casey saved my hair from a bad bayalage job a few years ago and been seeing him every few months for the past 1.5 years. Truly appreciate that he remembers me and I am not just another person in his chair. Mari is so sweet and wishing her all the best in her career journey. She blow dries and straightens my hair really nice. Arlene is great and did my makeup. Safe to say that I love Clinique again!! Who knew that I'd loveeeeee radiant looking foundation? I took my 13yr old daughter for her first curly cut and bangs. Scheduling online was simple. We were referred by a friend to Shanti. She was so great! She is a curly girl too and so friendly and down to earth. My daughter has been having a hard time with maintaining her curls and getting rid of her frizz. Be aware of poor service from Ulta. I wanted to share a very unpleasant experience I and my 14 year old had at Ulta here in Manteca. My daughter who is 14 purchased some makeup online and needed to change the color. As many of you may have children of your own or grandchildren know that a child this age doesn't have much money and what they do have is mostly earned or gifted. We experienced issues as the checker at the register couldn't use the email receipt and she needed to call her manager a gal by the name of Danika who came over and told me that I'd need to call customer service and get there help. I was taken back as this didn't sound right so I asked her to assist us as customers by calling herself and she rudely said "I need to help my line and my staff" as if we weren't important customers. This interaction turned me so off. For someone who spends hundreds at this store it really upset me. I was able to figure out the issue myself and asked that she come back to the counter, as if it wasn't bad enough she comes back and proceeds by asking my daughter what she wanted and again my daughter said I need a color swap. This manager proceeds with a refund which requires us to wait 5-7 days for the money to be returned. When I asked her why she did this and for her to issue a store credit or just process an exchange she rudely said with a smirk "There's nothing I can do she'll get her money". I mean when I tell you her tone and demeanor in her response was so unprofessional and just out of line. I asked her for her managers name and contact information and she said she didn't know and wasn't going to give it to me. Unfortunately my daughter could not get her makeup as we intended. Blessed that I am able to take her elsewhere to buy her makeup, what about those who don't have this advantage? It seems a though kindness and customer service no longer exist. Moral of the story is ask customers what they need assistance with before you assume, do your job properly and with a good attitude. And if you're not capable of that do not work in customer service/retail. Give someone else who can provide these needed skills a chance at a job. read more

Got them home and noticed the mascara had a torn box and upon opening it and pulling out the wand you can see it was used. I should have not went back to this Ulta after I had received makeup with a tester sticker on it and clearly used as a tester prior. Needless to say it's disgusting that they are reselling used products but then when we tried to exchange it for the same product but NEW, within about an hour after picking it up we were told to come back in 24hrs because their system shows it's not picked up yet from the manager. I called 866-983-8582 the customer service number and spoke with Charlene who said it's up to store managers to exchange or return items. I asked for a corporate number and/or address and after a lengthy wait she said she not her supervisor have information about Ultas corporate office. I just left this store to buy a few things. It has to be 90 degrees inside the store right now. I'm sweating and I was in there for a total of maybe 20-30 mins max. 1. You should close the store. These are not appropriate working conditions for your staff. It's 98 degrees outside. Make them work at other local Ulta's while you work on fixing the AC... RIDICULOUS. 2. I came in for a keratin treatment expecting professional service, but from the moment Kasey started, it was clear he didn't care. No explanation, no attention to detail -- just rushed through it like he had somewhere better to be. The treatment, which they claim lasts 6 months, barely made it two weeks before my hair turned into a frizzy mess. Even worse, I started having serious hair fall, which I've never dealt with before. When I went back to complain, the staff -- including the manager -- were shockingly indifferent. They said they reviewed the footage but did nothing useful. No refund. No responsibility. This location is great! Specifically because of the staff. Namely, Yesenia. I'm a very picky person who usually has a difficult time explaining what I'm looking for when it comes to perfume. My wife had to get some makeup for our overseas trip. Went into the Ulta in Manteca to see what was available. We were greeted at the door by Arlene and explained what we were looking for. Arlene walked us over to the area that we needed then proceeded to pick up what my wife needed. At this point Arlene sat my wife down and started to change my wife's face to a much earlier version of my wife. Arlene spent the time to explain how each one worked as well as how it complements each other. After getting all the makeup together, Arlene went and got a pos terminal to check us out where we were. Arlene also explained that if we opened an ULTA credit card that we would save a comparable amount of money. Great, we signed up and paid. As we were leaving I tried buying Arlene dinner but she refused and said she could not accept our offer. Beware of having your hair done or makeup done at the salon side. They talk about bad things about their co workers and do not even care how it makes them look on the clients. One of the client walked away after her hair color and the black woman who took care or her started talking about she hated doing her hair. I was literally in front of her and she didnt even care that I heard it. Casey who took care of me has a very heavy hand, while he was brushing my hair after color he didnt even care how my hair was very fragile and risk of breakage is very high. He even made a comment that I do not look good with the hair color I chose and made me feel uncomfortable. Overall, I feel that there is lack of professionalism on this salon. But what I REALLY love and the reason for the 5/5 star rating is the salon at this Ulta location. Namely, Casey. He checks all the boxes for a hairstylist that any girl would want! He's friendly. I am disappointed with Ulta. I went to Ulta years ago before I went into chemotherapy and lost all of my hair to get a pixie cut so that losing it wouldn't be as messy. After my hair grew back, I decided to go back and have them do my hair again, this time I was trying something new. I went to see Shanti first, and she did an ok job with my hair, although she suggested a balayage for the color I wanted. She did highlights instead of a balayage, and the cut was ok. I left a cash tip, and made an appointment to see her about 6 weeks later. She told me my next appointment would cost $97. When I returned, she again did not do a balayage, only highlights. The cut was ok but the style was awful. My children told me that I do my own hair better. I still was generous and left a nice tip, this time on my credit card though. And I was charged way more than the $97 she had told me it would be when I went back. I went back a 3rd time, this time I made an appointment with Casey, since I had taken one of my children to him years ago and he had done a great job on her hair. He again did highlights and the hair cut he gave me was awful. Then the cost was again ridiculous for not getting what I asked for. It was traumatic because as a cancer survivor, losing my hair was probably one of the toughest things I went through, and then having these people do this to my hair was terrible. Plus, the stylists gossip about how much they don't like working there and how they would never get their own hair done there. I'm guessing now that maybe Shanti was never given the cash tip I left, and if that's the case, they also have shady, untrustworthy employees. This review is for Ryan in the Salon. This is my first time here at this ULTA for a haircut. I was able to book online which was easy. When I arrived, since Ryan had never met me, she evaluated my hair and asked what I was looking for. I had a couple of pictures, but I was thinking of going from very long to much shorter. She suggested I get some long layers first and see how I like the shorter length rather than just going cold turkey and cutting really short layers into my hair. Good call! The five stars is for Maggie, who was awesome. Its my first time trying a new stylist and that is always nerve wracking. I explained what I wanted and preference of not using too much bleach, if possible. She came up with a great idea and it was hard to conceptualize at first but the result was great. She removed the leftover dye on my ends, added a color she blended with my roots. After getting off the sink and seeing my hair in the mirror, I already knew I will like the turnout. She did forget to do the express keratin and had to remind her. We had to go back to the sink to rinse the leave in conditioner she added. After styling my hair, I left happy. The color is better than I imagined and my hair was healthy. A trim wasn't needed. I wish I had known about the Olaplex service. It wasn't what I added when I booked on the app. The other Ulta salon I go to does the same thing and I thought it was just that salon. I wouldn't mind if I had been told about it in the first place. It's been almost a week and my hair still looks awesome. If you want a nice, quiet, pampering, you won't get it here. I am new to Ulta. I usually go to Macys, Sephora or order stuff online. I hosted a Christmas party last weekend and really wanted to achieve a glam holiday makeup, so I booked an appointment with Gustavo. He was recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. I am insecure without makeup due to having skin lupus and rosacea. My face skin is very red and my brows are short and uneven. I just look a mess without makeup, so walking in there bare face was very uncomfortable for me. But he made me feel so comfortable and was so kind to me. He listened to exactly what I wanted and executed the look I came in for! I will definitely go back to Gustavo in the future. He also made my hair look so nice! I took a star off but not because of Gustavo. He's great! But, because I have gone back to this store twice more this last week and have heard front area cashier staff talking crap about customers. A lot of people are already a bit overwhelmed walking into a big beauty store like this. It's really uncool to talk crap about customers, loudly, where other customers can also hear.
