Halloween was right around the corner, and I had no idea what I wanted to do. I haven't purchased a costume in the longest, so I decided to put the focus on my face makeup instead. I saw some really cool ideas online, and figured I would make an appointment at Ulta to have it professionally done, especially since my makeup skills are basically non-existent. My appointment was with Paola, and she was awesome! Lucky me, she had literally just done something very similar to what I wanted, and we decided to replicate that. She did a smoky eye shadow look, and blended the colors very well. I loved the foundation she used, as well as the concealer. The whole process took about an hour and a half. The makeup looked amazing, and didn't even feel like it was "too much", as in, not cakey or heavy at all. If I could give 0 starts I would. This review is specifically for the esthetician Ramia E. I booked an online appointment for a facial. I was really excited and looking forward to my appointment because I wanted to treat myself. I am 31 weeks pregnant and my baby shower is quickly approaching so I thought heck why not. I pictured myself after a long and tedious ten hour shift I would be able to relax and unwind for the afternoon. My appointment was for 4:45 pm I arrived at 4:20 pm. I checked in and the employee asked me what I wanted from the service I asked if I could have the steam and extractions for my facial. She asked me what I wanted to clean my face with which I was confused because I didn't know what the options were. I said I don't know what do you use witch hazel? She's stated "no I use a cleanser" I replied okay that's fine. Then I asked if vegan products were going to be used during my service because I prefer those products. Employee responded with "no". Which I was okay with as this was just a simple question and preference not a requirement in the service that I specifically needed. She stated she was waiting for her appointment that was running a little late and that she would attend me at my scheduled appointment time of 4:45. This was no problem to me considering it gave me time to go to micheals and look at some fun crafts! I returned promptly to the salon by 4:42 pm to ensure I didn't take up any of her time or keep her waiting. As I was sitting patiently waiting, anticipating my facial and really just the opportunity to do something to make me feel good something that would raise my self esteem it was quickly and abruptly shattered. She approached me with her manager and stated she was unable to do my facial without a doctors note. I was completely and utterly caught off guard. I asked why do I need a doctors note? The employee stated she wasn't going to do my facial unless I had one. I still did not understand and the manager said it in case of an allergy. This left me flabbergasted I don't have allergies what do you mean. This continued in an unnecessary conversation back and forth stating that the esthetician did not feel comfortable providing a service because of the possibility of an allergy. I replied repeatedly that I don't have allergies to anything why is this being used as a concern all of a sudden. The manager replied it was because I stated I wanted vegan products. In which I replied I asked if vegan products are used it's my preference however, it's not because due to allergies. The esthetician walked away from the conversation and actually left for the day. The manager and I continued talking about why my service was being denied. She stated that employees have the right to decline a client. However, it didn't sit well with me I didn't understand what reason that would be considering the employee said it was because I needed a doctors note. At this point I was very unhappy my appointment was cancelled for a reason I did not understand. I continued speaking to the manager trying to understand the reasoning of this cancellation. I felt like I was being discriminated. Now my question was what am I being turned down for is it because I'm pregnant? Or is it because I requested vegan products? I simply didn't understand. During my consultation with the esthetician everything was fine. So why this sudden turn to cancelling my appointment and why make me come back thinking I was Ganna be attended to then not be. The manager came back with a 20 percent off my next service. I asked is this a one time thing that the employee is unwilling to attended me or is this going to be permanent? Because I understand we are human sometimes we have bad days and maybe this was the case but if I make another appointment will I also be denied? The manager was unable to answer the question. Then she called another manager and we basically had the same conversation all over again. She ended with saying maybe it was a misunderstanding and she would speak with the employee. read more

Easily the largest ULTA Beauty I've been in, and if for only that, I expect a lot of variety. However, the truth stands that when it comes to drugstore brands, this particular store isn't cutting it for me. I'm a Cover Girl lover and they hardly had anything around. What gives? If you're looking for good deals, a salon, or in general more expensive-looking make-up, though, you're in luck. There's that tenfold. Please be aware, though, that it's survival of the fittest. There are so many ladies inside that it feels like you're either at a flea market or suffering through Black Friday getting that last plasma TV. Eh, I may be projecting. I went to wash and blow dry my hair and to give it some body I was going to an appointment and I was very disappointed I felt like nothing was done to my hair and I paid $40 plus tip. I asked my friends and they said that my hair was even frizzy. I always get compliments when my hairdresser does my hair and he only charges me $25. I've never been a big fan of this company but I continued to give it another chance because I have seen some growth and improvement over the years. This particular store is always a shambles. Samples are always missing, the store is always dirty, the people that work there have low product knowledge and the turnaround is very high, they carry cheap brands, I could go on and on. I am much more of a Sephora person but lately I have seen Ulta make some strides. Today I took my mom in to get a simple one color process. (She wanted a bright red which is something that's difficult to do at home.) The lady that did her color did a fine job however during the blowdry process I several times told her she was not blow drying her hair correctly and she continued to ignore me. I got up and physically showed her a couple of times in two places how my mother likes her hair done and the lady was not happy. At one point she told me I could "not touch her hair until we got home." EXCUSE ME? I informed her that since it was my mom's head and since I was paying for the work I indeed had every right to not only give her direction mid-job but to show her how my mother preferred to have her hair styled. At this point a young man who looked like a reject from the Backstreet Boys (and later on turned out to be some sort of salon manager) interfered and immediately took the Stylist's side without knowing the entire story and informed me that once I put my mother in the chair I had to let the Stylist dictate. I informed him that I had let the Stylist do the entire blow out (my mother's hair was completely dry and styled before I interjected) but I wanted to be sure that we walked out with what my mother liked not what the Stylist chose to do. These are hairstylists working at Ulta in a strip mall not Picasso. I was not interrupting and taking over a tattoo session I was merely showing her how my mother likes her sideburns. We paid and even tipped and on the way out he decided to come up to the front desk and interrupt us from our conversation with another employee and continue to argue until he became rude. We won't bore you with the details but Ulta will not see a penny of our money ever again. This young man who is better suited to managing a snowcone stand has no idea how to treat people and did nothing but argue with and alienate us. He is now for us forever the face of Ulta. If Ulta wants to continue to compete with the Sephoras of the world they really need to reconsider their hiring strategy. This person is not management material. read more
