I don't remember the last time I left a review of a business, but I made sure to leave one for this place. A relative of mine recommended me coming here since they come here every now and then, but I'm never taking their advice for hair salons again. I came to get my hair bleached, a MONTH ago, because I wanted to redo my cornrows a different color. I called, booked an appointment, then came to the salon. The girl at the front desk, very nice by the way, started to unbraid my hair, and then began to wash it. FYI no one over the phone said it would be a problem if I came with my hair braided, plus I was paying for that service included ANYWAYS. As I was telling the the girl unbraiding my hair that I wanted to bleach my hair, the owner over heard what I was saying and then brashly and openly for others to listen asks me "do you want me to tell you something?" I told her, "It's up to you whether you want to or not, why ask if you're truly trying to help?" She then tells me that if I bleach my hair and then braid it after, once I remove the braids my hair will start falling since I keep my braids on for a long time. She might of not said it in the most professional manner, but I still appreciated it because it was still a good piece of advice to take and I did not do it. Instead, I took her suggestion to go with a light brown color hair dye. As I was trying to ignore how she initially spoke to me, she then started to complain saying that I should of said I had cornrows in the beginning before coming in and that I should of came with my hair already detangled and washed. Wouldn't that be YOUR job? I called and asked if I could come and dye my hair, at 1 P.M, they close at 6 P.M, no one asked questions they just said "come we can help you." Already regretting my decision to come here, I remained positive because besides her, everyone else who was helping me was being nice and courteous. What followed after was the reason why I came back to leave my review. I picked a light brown color with the person in charge of dying my hair. The person applied the hair dye, waited some time, then washed my hair and styled it. (After leaving the salon, I lasted an hour and half with my sister detangling my hair because they did not detangle it correctly and left a bunch of knots in my hair. And I mean, knots that you couldn't possibly miss in my head. To finish it all, my hair was supposed to be a light brown. I braided my hair the day after and the person who braids my hair every time barely even noticed a difference in my hair color. She said it still looked almost black completely, which I agreed with her.) The only reason I did not leave 1 star was for the few moments I had that were pleasant with some of the people who helped me. Whom they themselves did a subpar job detangling and dying my hair. If you want good nails: book an appointment. Just do it. Otherwise you won't get a good tech which sucks, but I come for the price and quickness. It's cheap! And really great in which It lasts me three to four weeks. I go with Daisy or Maday (both speak Spanish but understand English which only I speak) show them what you want and they can try to make it happen. I have been a returning customer for more than 2 years and I've never had a more unpleasant time than when I had to encounter the owner. I had an appointment to get my hair dyed and blow dried with Madeline. She delegated to another stylist and then continued to work on another customer's hair. I was unattended to while I continued to ask other stylists why my hair dye was still on for longer than an hour after it was applied on my hair. My hair is now the color of my skin tone and the owner is still arguing with me that it is my fault because "I'm the stylist, you're the customer". I said I wanted my hair to look a little lighter and refreshed because it had an orange undertone....not that I needed it 3 shades lighter. It's a shame that a great salon is managed by such an unprofessional, arrogant person. Update: As I'm talking to the lady that is currently working on my hair, I hear the owner say, "she must know how planets are made too". Gossiping in front of the customer too? I'm new to the area so I greatly depend on yelp for reviews for everything! I called to see if I could be seen and they told me to come on in. As soon as I got there I was taken to the back for a wash. Then I was swooped to a chair where two women went to work on blow drying my hair. This was my first time at a Dominican salon but I had heard stories of how the dryers burnt and they were really really with the hair-it was nothing like it! It was actually really relaxing. SO UNPROFESSIONAL! Avoid this place at all costs. Many of the nail ladies are not good and those are usually the ones with availability. I had one lady who not only smelled bad but did such a sloppy job. I had cuticle left on all my nails and paint left on my nail bed. Each nail lady has to bring her own supplies so there is no consistency with many using cheap no name nail polish that chips after a day. This place reeks of chemicals because all they do is brazilian blowouts which are full of poisonous chemicals (google it) . They contain formaldehyde, a toxic chemical, a known human carcinogen. Formaldehyde also triggers allergic reactions. It is so bad that when you walk in you can see the smoke in the air. I had come here a few times and would make my appointment when checking out for my next visit. I arrive for my scheduled appointment and the receptionist/ owner tells me that my nail lady didn't show up for work today and that she told them she called all her clients to tell them. I left early from work to rush to my appointment for nothing. I tell the owner that I never got a call and instead of her apologizing and fixing the issue she basically accuses me of lying about getting the call and tells me everyone else is booked so too bad so sad. She really could care less. Why would I lie and waste my time showing up if I had in fact got a call saying my nail lady would not be in?! I was floored by the way this place treats clients and I quickly went across the street to another nail salon that accepts walk ins and is always a stress free & professional environment. I waited so long to get my hair cut b/c almost every place I've been to in Miami messes it up. I wind up having to go back to NY to my mom's hair salon to get it fixed losing lots of length in the process. I've had this type of Botox on my hair but they did not last more then 2 months. I wanted to go to a Dominican hair salon cause they know how to deal with my type of hair. Madelyn the owner took care of me. Wow I was amazed with her work, the iron she used did not make my gray hair look yellowish. I've been in Miami for a while now and have been to different hair salons anywhere from really inexpensive to outrageously pricey because is Miami. I'm Dominican so I told myself "stop going all over the place and go back home," so I started looking for a hair salon and ran a cross Madeline's Hair salon. Came for a trim scared that of getting my hair chopped off but was surprised to see that I got exactly what I requested, and my hair has been growing super fast! The staff is really friendly, great for mani/pedis as well with a $19.99 Monday thru Wednesday special going on now. I was satisfied with their service. I don't know if my experience counts for the whole establishment, but i trusted someone from this salon to KNOW what the hell they were doing and that was not the case. Made an appointment for the only time i am available 5:30pm, because of work. Rushed through traffic to come in on time and the girl at the front desk tells me there is no one that can help me. I originally wanted to get some highlights and a haircut but told her i would be okay with just a trim and the blower because it was my birthday the next day. This lady kinda chimes in and i tell her the same thing, just the trim and the styling would be okay, but she insisted in doing the highlights too. They close at 7 so she was rushing, i should have said something again but i trusted her to do a good job regardless because well... shes a hair dresser and she works there, SHE MUST know what shes doing. I told her i did not want the high lights to be YELLOW (too blonde) my experience with the last time i had ny hair bleached was that my hair came out a golden yellow, but my original hair color is black and it does not look good at all. So i spend 15 minutes with the bleach in my hair and when i come back to the chair after shampooing what do i see? YELLOW. So i kinda let it go because i figured that is an easy fix at another time, i can live with it. So we move on to the hair cut. I said i did not want to cut off too much and just wanted a little more of a v shape at the bottom and LONG bangs, i specifically said i did not want SHORT bangs. So i see her cutting and cutting, i can already tell shes doing a crappy job because shes cutting too much, but again i can live with it, hair grows back right? Now she gets to my bangs and without no hesitation whatsoever she cuts the hell out of them, and i mean 5 year old crooked and straight up BANGS. I think she immediately noticed that i wasn't okay and just started complimenting my hair. She moves on to the drying part and my bangs are a disaster! It looks horrible! The cut, the color and to top it off the damn bangs. She did everything exactly the opposite of what i wanted. I paid $118, which might not be much to some but i literally spent my birthday money on this crap. I had to have a friend come ON THE DAY OF MY BIRTHDAY and TRY to fix it. Which, there is no fixing overly short crappy bangs! So im stuck having to pin back this shit and not being happy with how i look until my hair grows back. I hate that this happened to me and i hate that i allowed it to happen. Never trust your hair to someone just because they work at a "reputable" salon. The worse part is that in the end i tell her as nicely as i could, they are too short and all she can say is oh it will grow back. What the eff! If it wasn't because she ASKED me to pay at the beginning (another mistake) i would have not paid at all! Tried calling the next day to speak to the owner about maybe getting my money back but of course she was too "busy" I had to let it go (gotta pick your battles) but i am definitely NOT happy. I NEVER go to salons here in the US, i feel that they are overpriced and can never get it right. After this experience I will never go to another salon again. Sucks that what they have displayed outside is my big Dominican flag, but the people that they got working there are not even DOMINICAN! read more
