I've been to this particular store twice and both times was disappointed. The first time was when they first opened--a couple years ago I think. I was given a sample of Clinique mascara at the Ulta in Elk Grove. I really liked it, so I went to my newly opened Modest store only to find, "Sorry, we don't carry Clinique." The second time I went to this store, I was on the hunt for Urban Decay Naked 1 and/or 2 eyeshadow palette. The entire Urban Decay display looked raped and pillaged. When asked by a sales woman if I need help finding anything, I asked if they had any Urban Decay eyeshadow kits. "No, sorry, they haven't filled it up in awhile. They should soon though." I don't really care who "they" are but what I do care about is that once again, what I came in for, they didn't have because the product wasn't stocked. I went over to JCPennys Sephora afterward and found a beautiful selection of fully stocked Urban Decay and very helpful sales people. Bottom line: I really love Ulta and have enjoyed shopping at the Elk Grove store many times but this Modesto store ranks low on the chain. read more

I went to get my graduation makeup and hair done and the person who was supposed to do my makeup didn't show up so they had someone else fill in and it really looked awful she basically put no foundation on me and it looked nothing like the picture and also no concealer and the eyelashes were coming off as soon as she finished however she was really nice not trying to be rude she just didn't know what she was doing I think and then I called today to tell the manager Tiffany and the manager was very rude!!! While I feel like this is a cleaner and more organized store that I have been to, this past shopping trip made me uncomfortable. I had worked a lot of overtime the previous week so that I could splurge on some skin and hair care items. I planned on taking my time comparing items and picking out the best products for my skin. I also wanted to invest in a good eyeshadow palette, and again, take my time swatching and figuring out my best investment. From the second I walked in the store, I was bombarded with ' can I help you' from 4 different people, which is fine the first time. I answered no that I was just browsing. From that point on I felt like I was being followed and watched like a hawk. Any time I would lean down to look at a product on the lower shelf, one would practically run around the corner to 'put something away' or 'fix' a display. At one point I got mixed up and thought skin care was on the other side of the store with the body care, and you better believe they had something to put away all the way over there. Then I realized skin care is on the other side by the luxury makeup, and what do you know, there they were. I didn't spend nearly as long as I wanted or even pick up half the items I went there for because I couldn't stand the feeling that I was doing something wrong by browsing and not knowing exactly what I wanted. I won't be returning to this store, ever, and will most likely only be ordering online since most stores are in just complete disarray that I walk in to. read more

Marina (she was also my cashier) was doing a demo or something on a girl & stepped in and announced they were sold out. She said she had just checked in the morning. It was around 5. Weekends are usually crowded with people... I suggest if you want some peace and quiet and want to take your time to shop for the particular make-up you want go on the weeknights! Most of the time I'm in here they have a poor inventory of NYX products and revlon lip butter or even their Ulta brand for nail polishes. I'm guessing the management and staff has filtered through quite a bit because Ulta is finally receiving something over 2 stars from me. The staff recently at this location is SO much better than the previous one! The current staff greets you, asks you if you need any help, looks all over if you can't find a product or a certain color, etc. I have been going to the salon a lot more since they started their 21 days of hair event. I have been getting blowouts done every week by Liz and she is absolutely amazing! Not only is she sweet & has a great personality...she also does a killer blowout on my dry, frizzy, thick, naturally curly hair. Not everyone can do a blowout. The girl I went to at the Turlock Ulta couldn't. But Liz definitely can! I was having my virgin hair balayaged by the head stylist, Kendra but she isn't around for a while so I did a consultation with Liz. She has been hearing what I've been wanting to do to my hair for weeks now and was able to show me the colors I wanted to get my hair done. This is the best Ulta in the area. I find the staff is always cheerful and helpful. On 12/23 10am-ish I stopped in for a cologne but sadly it was sold out. A very nice girl offered to help me find a similar scent. She then mentioned that they had just received a shipment of the popular IT BRUSH No. 116. She explained why the sell out of it so I grabbed one. It is an amazing brush and I don't know how I have lived without it. I wish I had caught the girls name. We had a long conversation about foundations and she suggested Stila Aqua Glow foundation. I have since purchased it and it is amazing as well. This young lady is an asset to Ulta. This review is for the Benefit Brow Bar: Britney, the one with all the tattoos, is amaaaazzzzing. After months of growing out my eyebrows, it was time to get my engagement photos and needed my eyes grows waxed and cleaned up badly. She definitely knew what she was doing! Will be back in 4 weeks for another session. Now, I also wanted to buy some foundation, and there's was a girl there (she has bright purple hair, I don't remember her name) and she was also very good - not only did she apply the foundation, she did the contour the highlight etc. Very sweet, very friendly. I took off 6 inches and had the worst post experience.. very uneven - choppy - frayed ends since a razor was used- (with Patti) She is very nice and easy to talk to. A month later I was able to get in with my professional hair stylist who fixed it & agreed its was not good! However some pieces are layered frayed so much I just have to wait for them to grow! Will never go to any ulta salon! They just don't have enough experience! Once I called to express my feelings the salon manager was never there. 2 weeks later I got a message that I can come in to get it fixed but was frightened it'd just be worse and worse. Any who I love getting my facials here they aren't that expensive and Chelsey always gives good facials and really good customer service! I have never once left dissatisfied! I've been in Modesto for about 6 months and this is the closest Ulta near me. I went into the store after a long day of work and as soon as I walked in I felt so uncomfortable. I know they were following me around and I'm pretty sure it's because of the way I looked. So anyways I ended up getting my items but had to leave for personal reasons and I had asked the lady (short blonde with glasses) to put my stuff on hold. She assured me my items would be there. I ended up going back an hour or so later and no one could find my bag. Mind you the lady who put my bag on hold was still there, seen me come in (and avoided me) and even went behind the counter as I'm trying to find out where my holds were! Long story short another lady came and asked what I had and she ran Around the store to grab my items! I ended up figuring out that she had put back all my items and couldn't even give me a heads up!!! Maybe she thought I couldn't afford these items but hunty I work for my money‍. Another thing since I'm already here... When I would try and return they always want to give me store credit! YO AMO ULTA POR VIDA!!!! My love for Ulta started in The Bay where I would frequent the Fremont store. I was sad when we moved to Modesto and the meth-heads surprisingly didn't wear makeup. But alas, an Ulta store was opened and my life was whole again! It is bigger and looks a tad more on the bright side than some of the older stores. And yes, while they still carry the same products I favor the lay out of this store more. The only reason I subtracted one star was for the rude customer service I received on the floor today. The chick was stocking products and there was no one else around to help. When I asked for assistance she acted like she couldn't have been bothered by it. When I first walked in, there wasn't anyone attending the salon register to check me in for my appointment. I waited approx. 5 minutes before seeing anyone that appeared like they might be a salon employee, and as I saw the salon employee walk out from the back room, I noticed she was still chewing on a mouth full of food. My initial impression was not good, but after chatting with Kendra, whom was very friendly, she ended up doing a great job with my color and cut. I have been to this store three times to spend money. Every time I walked out because no one is ever willing to help me. Ever. In fact I was trying different colors of concealer (from tart) which isn't cheap and a blonde makeup artist who never greeted me just stared at me. Then the time before that I walked in grabbed tons of items so many I couldn't carry them all and no one approached me or offered me help so I put everything down and left. I received a gift card for ulta and went in with my friend yesterday. She wanted her brows done and we both wanted tart concealers. We looked for concealers. Two lady who work there (one named Sandy) were so busy talking about parties and Vegas they couldn't help us. Another costumer finally interrupted them and she wanted the same concealers we did. We were pushed aside so that BOTH employees could help her find her concealer. Sandy even asked me for the one I had in my hand to show her. We we're not asked if we needed any help instead we were pushed aside so they could help the lady who was annoyed enough to interrupt their party talk. In fact my friend stood in line to ask for brows and by the time they found someone who was available to do them I told her never mind. I won't spend a dime at this place. I won't even step foot back in there. And I never get this treatment at Sephora. Ever. They are always willing to help willing to give you a basket for your things, help you with everything and anything you need. They deserve my business. read more
