My cousin wanted to have her makeup done as she wanted to buy new makeup but didn't know what colors would complement her complexion. We went to Ulta in Plymouth and had our makeup done by Holly at the MAC counter. Holly was very knowledgeable about products but also asked lots of questions to try to find products that addressed my cousin's needs. My cousin barely wears makeup but recently divorced and wanted to get back into dating so she wanted something that looked pretty with her coloring but not too heavy or fussy as she is not skilled at makeup application. Holly selected colors that were suitable on her complexion and only required beginner level skills. My cousin loved the colors she selected (she has pretty hazel eyes and Holly selected Amorous, a violet lipstick that made her eyes pop!) and it was a big confidence boost. Holly also did my makeup and did a beautiful job. I was looking for a change up from my muted everyday look. I was worried, because, again, I just don't wear makeup that I would not look like myself and be hyper aware of it all night. I went through the classic dye your hair a million colors (red (oh god), blue, purple, black) and came in there with dry, frizzy (I have curly hair) hair. Barbie, a lovely gal who has the cutest station at the salon helped sm. She got my hair so lightened with all the damage, genuinely an angel. When I went to her station she had her crystal lay out and I knew I was in good hands. I cannot even leave the house my hair looks so bad. Do not go to this salon. My blonde hair has been turned a completely unnatural shade of purple-gray-brown..... the toner that they used was way way too dark and looks awful and completely ruined my hair color. It will not wash out at all, like the stylist said it would. I also wanted a haircut but when I stood up there was about 3 strands of hair on the ground. She barely cut anything off. I wanted it to be considerably thinner and less bulky, now it looks even bulkier due to the blunt cut. Just awful. I do not know what I am going to do. read more

As a self-confessed beauty *especially lipgloss* JUNKIE, I had me some super high hopes for Ulta. I was completely psyched to find out there was one on the South Shore; usually when I'm in need of a high-end gloss fix, I either have to go into Boston, or roll the dice and order online. But sadly, as I looked around, Ulta is sort of like a wannabe Sephora; similar products and layout, but where are the happy makeup girls? The Good: They do have some great brands here, that are difficult to find locally *for me, in the sticks*; Stila, Smashbox, Bourjois, Urban Decay, Bare Escentuals, etc. Easy to navigate, clean store. And they have a cool rewards program, where after you spend certain amounts, you get coupons for free stuff in the store. Love that. Extensive selection of OPI and Essie nailpolish, high-end fragrances, Ulta's own line of bath & body products *and cosmetics*, as well as "drugstore" companies. The Bad: Very limited selection on a lot of product lines. Now, I did go in mid-February, and haven't been back yet, so I will say that maybe they were expecting shipments to come in. And I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now, but in a lot of the product lines, it was like a ghost town. Vast sections of products just gone. Not just like a couple of colors, but like ROWS of shtuff. Ugh. I'll be going back soon, and keep you girls updated. (God help them if my Stila powder is out of stock...grrr...) The Ugly *hehe, get it? Ugly, about a beauty store? Ah...*: Seriously, I hate saying this, but the staff here are really not very friendly or particularly helpful, or um, even like to smile? How can you NOT smile in a candy store of perfume and powders and polishes? And I don't like to compare to Sephora, but it's sort of inevitable, isn't it? I scheduled a makeup application appointment over a week in advance with a stylist I had used before. When I arrived, I was told to go to the MAC makeup counter because "they needed to get their makeup applications up." I said I had made an appointment in the salon and she said "yeah they sent you here because we need to get our applications up." She then stated I would need to buy $60 worth of product. When I declined, the girl went back to the salon and said that I didn't want it. The girl that I booked the appointment with said as about five girls are huddled around the computer that she didn't "have a lot of time." I really got screwed over because I had an event that day and ended up having to find somewhere thirty minutes from home at the last minute. It was so unprofessional, and really disappointing. I have to say that for the most part, I love Ulta. The salon is wonderful and really not that expensive. Definately worth the price. A bit too pricey for an eyebrow waxing...I think $20.00 is too high. The selection of cosmetics and hair supplies is great as is the selection of beauty products. But as another reviewer has said...the staff has alot to be desired. Iv'e never had anyone ask me if I needed help or had any questions....and I'm at a reward level 9, so trust me..I've been there a time or two. And when you do approach them and ask questions, you're made to feel like you're bothering them. My friend and I live 40 minutes from this location, but we decided to take the ride to get dinner and some products that were out of stock at a location closer to us. At the store, we walked around the same area for about 20 minutes, testing products and talking openly to each other about our finds. We walked by several associates, not one of which asked if they could help us find anything (if I saw them I assume they saw us) let alone inform us that the store was closing. We were under the impression the store closed at 10 due to the website stating this, until an associate came up to us at about 10 past 9 stating that the store was closed and claiming she "hadn't even seen us" even though she had greeted us when we walked in. They had already locked us in the store and shut down the registers so my friend wasn't even allowed to purchase the items she had in her hand. I've worked at a larger retail store for over 3 years now. When the store is closing, we make several overhead pages informing the customers how much time is remaining. Associates walk the store to make sure there are no remaining customers and if they are, they help them find and make their purchases. Never once have I seen a customer told to leave the store after closing without making their purchases. The fact that not one associate spoke to us during our time perusing the store is incredible to me. The woman who approached us at the end unlocked the doors for us and said "we open at 10 tomorrow." Yeah, like I'm making the 40 minute drive again tomorrow for this kind of service! Will not be returning. read more

My daughter got her eyebrows waxed yesterday at Ulta. They ripped off part of the skin under her brow. Apparently if you use any acne prescription lotion on your face you should *not* have your eyebrows waxed. I suggested they ask or put a sign up to inform clients of this. Too much blame on the client, and took way too much to get an apology. Had to ask for the service to be comp'd. Girl at checkout was yawning entire time and seemed bored to death. My daughter and I shop at Ulta on occasion. We have bought a Chi Flat iron here and a few blow dryers. Prices are as expected. No huge deals here. Their selection of products is similar to a CVS with a few specialty lines. The sales staff are not informed as say in a Sephora. I have found better prices for Chi products at Marshalls and online, in fact, after buying a Chi Mini Flatiron today, I found it 40.00 cheaper online so will head back soon to return my recent purchase. I asked about a promotion going on and the associate had no clue what the product even was and when I asked my question, her response sounded so condescending and downright rude. This is store is always disastrous. Honestly so upset about my hair right now... Got it done this am at 10.. Told the stylist that I wanted my hair much lighter and whiter than it currently was at a light sunny blonde.. Im now at home looking in the mirror and see no difference.. I paid 110$ and see absolutely no change! And my dark roots are veryy visable... This was the first ULTA in Massachusetts! There are some great brands there and they usually run specials every week with a coupon. The Beauty Club Rewards are fantastic as well and the salon is great. One of their best stylists is Chrissy - I have been going to her for over a year and she does a fantastic job both with my husband and myself. It isn't as cheap as a place like Super Cuts but you definitely get what you pay for. My favorite is when the 20% off Friends & Family coupons come out - you can save a *ton* of money especially off the pricier Prestige brands. read more

2.5-3 stars so gave them benefit of the doubt and went with 3. This Ulta location is always out or running low on products. It's usually slim pickins for my fav line, urban decay. They're always out of lots of shadow colors. if they paid attention, they'd know what the big sellers are and have them on hand to re stock. That's another issue- they don't re stock as often as they should. I went in there recently looking for a $$$ eye shadow pallet. The shelf was empty so I was ready to walk out and go to Braintree. The girl asked if I needed help and I just said you're out of the pallet I wanted. She asked what pallet it was and I told her and she said oh we have them right in this box we haven't re stocked yet. She then handed me a pallet right from the box. While I was glad I mentioned it before I made the trek to Braintree, as soon as the stock was getting low it should've been replenished. They're always out of the urban decay shadow colors I want so I just got them in at the Braintree store recently. This location is definitely hit or miss and lately for me it's been miss. The girls here aren't friendly at all and always are just standing around talking amongst each other. If you want nice workers and a fully stocked store, head up to Braintree. read more

I love Ulta, but this location is frustrating to no end. -They do not stock their store well enough because I'm constantly looking for products on the drug store side or the prestige side that never seem to be restocked no matter what day of the week. -Their cleanup stations are a joke if you are swatching a lot of products. I have to track down an associate for makeup remover when there should be some at each station. -Associates are hit or miss, I've had some amazing ones who want to help and give great suggestions, but also ones who do not want to be bothered. -I also do not appreciate that they often have salespeople from companies roaming around unmarked trying to pull me away from products I have spent time researching versus their "always amazing" brand. Not the salespersons fault, it's their job and I'm sure this happens in places like Sephora, but I feel like I can distinguish cast members there better. -They never have enough cashiers when the line is long. They either don't call someone or that person takes so long to get to the front, they might as well not have come. What I like about this Ulta -Inexplicably, I have been able to get a couple high end makeup items that are magically stocked at this location when seemingly sold out everywhere else. I only see them once and they are never restocked again, so you have to be lucky and come in on restock day. -Their waxing service (eyebrows) is great and took me when I came in 30 minutes before closing. -They are expanding their brand selection to include more vegan/natural products. (Ulta wide obviously, but I'm sure each store can choose to carry more products of a brand) The best way to describe this store is hit or miss. You have to be lucky on a day where the long unseen restocking occurs. Honestly if you miss that day, this place can be really hard to like. read more

Salon experience was NOT good. Stylist had no idea what she was doing. As a new client she never gave me a consult to see what type of hair I had before shampooing my hair and then even though she didn't understand what I wanted for a style she cut anyway. I made her try to fix it 3 times before I gave up and left and found another better salon to fix what she had done. In her defense she looked young and probably fresh out of school, but she should have asked for help from another stylist or just told me she didn't understand what I wanted before just chopping all my hair off! read more

BEYOND HORRIBLE!!! I had my hair cut at Ulta on several occasions. The last time I was a few minutes late for my appointment, however I called ahead to tell them I would be late, and asked if I should reschedule, and was told it was ok, and to come in. Melissa washed my hair, and then afterward, while my hair was wet and I was sitting in the chair for the haircut, she told me she could cut my hair, but didn't have time to dry and style it. I was charged the full price for a cut, blow dry and style. If Melissa had told me before she washed my hair that wouldn't have time to dry it, I would have just rescheduled. Needless to say, I will never go back there. I'm also warning everyone I know about this horrible service. Ulta is just a mediocre salon to begin with, and and the service is incredibly poor. My hair is dark brown and I went to get my hair balayaged (blonde), however it took four hours and all that happened was my hair turned green. They said it was from using box dye previously on my hair, but I used that over a year ago. They still charged me $60 even though the results were not even close to what I had wanted.
