I was unhappy with the way Chloe colored my hair. I paid a lot of money and the color was hardly noticeable. I called a few hours later and asked if she could fix it for me and she told me she would have to charge me the full price. I was shocked that Ulta doesn't have a 48 hour policy where if you are unhappy, accommodations can be made. Big waste of money. To top it all off, the girls are catty and complain about customers, make fun of customers' hair, etc. That was a big turn off for me - I wonder what they said about me when I left! Everyone is incredibly friendly and very helpful. The rewards system is significantly better than Sephora's considering you get dollars off instead of samples. Will not be doing business at Ulta in-store or on-line (ripped up the rewards card). I was tired of being ignored and blown off by the floor personnel. With a smile and a please when I asked for help to find a product... all the floor personnel do is point in a general direction and return to chit chat with another employee or go to help a younger person. I was not ever approached to ask me if I needed help. This happened several times....and I am done. Perhaps, personnel need a seminar on ageism. I went to ulta the other day and as soon as I walked in an employee (older woman, slender Caucasian) came up to me and said 'what can I find for you today', I politely replied 'I do not need any help today thank you' and turned around to proceed to shop around. She followed me the whole time like a shadow. It was unreal, everywhere I turned around she was there. I went from the bare minerals to the Mario badescu to the Korean skin care to the hair products... And she was there watching me the whole time. She even came up to me when I was in the Mario badescu section and asked if I wanted a skin consultation and I said no. She made me so uncomfortable and it was obvious that she was following me because I looked like I rolled out of bed (this is Poughkeepsie, what do I have to get glammed up for). My sister was with me and she thought it was so funny bc this woman was so obvious. I'm not saying she was racially profiling but she was absolutely profiling me. I don't know if she is trained to act like this or has specific directives to act like this or if she just acts this way on her own... Either way it was uncomfortable and insulting. After leaving ulta I went to Sephora (where I should have gone to initially). At Sephora the staff was extremely welcoming (as they always are) and did not profile me based off of my zero f's given look. I am going to buy Mario badescu and all of the other items I usually buy at ulta online (the ulta point system is too good not to use). Poughkeepsie Ulta is horrible and they will profile you based on what you look like (this is Poughkeepsie- I have the right to look like trash in this trash town, I preserve my glam for important things - not ulta runs). If you choose to go in there and they do that to you just keep calm like I did and remember they make maybe 12 pr/hr to judge you so the joke is really on them. read more

I was in Ulta store in Poughkeepsie, NY. I needed some things and I was clueless as to what to get. You see I am trying to keep age appropriate and still look good. It is hard for me to shop because I am disabled, I can't walk or stand for very long. So, I had this girl Katie help me. I sat down and I told her what I wanted and how I wanted to look. She didn't even hesitate she ran around getting me the products she KNEW would look good on me, not what she could push on me, that's rare. If I asked for something rather than push the sale she was honest and said it was something that wouldn't look right on my skin. Rather than be insulted I was thrilled!! She didn't push the sale even if what I picked was pricier than what she did. Ultimately, she made me look healthy and even a bit younger. I thank you, Katie!! I will always go back to my Ulta store. Their customer service is above even the most expensive salons like Estee Lauder, et al. Again, Thank you. I wish I could give more than five stars. Awful experience when I got a haircut. The hair stylist didn't care about what I wanted. She did a very horrible job on my hair. She acted like she knew what she was doing, but she didn't. Horrible service. The stylist actually thought she did a great job! She didn't have any knowledge on how to maintain or improve my issues i expressed to her. She recommended to do just a straight cut, no layers or anything. I felt horrible when I left, and having to pay for that crap is stupid. I love this store!!! The hair stylists are so knowledgeable and Samantha SAVED my hair!!!! She knew more about my type of hair and what kind of products to use than any hairdresser has ever taught me. They didn't try to push products on me and any questions I could come up with, they were able to answer!!!! the makeup artists are amazing as well, again so knowledgeable and friendly!!! No one tells you that you HAVE to buy anything, which always makes me feel appreciated and want to buy more.. management is friendly and beyond helpful, and I look forward to every visit I make here! read more

I love ulta as a store but I would not recommend the salon at the Poughkeepsie ulta. I don't remember the name of the girl who did my hair but I believe she was a manager which makes it even more concerning. I had an ulta gift card and needed my highlights to get touched up so I figured I would go to their salon. All I wanted was for my grown out roots to be lightened to match the rest of my highlighted hair. What I ended up with was roots that were still dark, and ends that were DARK grayish/purple because they were so overly toned. I really wasn't asking for a complex color, literally just basic blonde so I don't know how it could have turned out so terribly wrong. When I was paying (which was over $200 not including tip by the way) the cashier said "wow what color even is that?" ... it was supposed to be blonde And what makes it worse is that it was obviously not at all what I asked for and the stylist wasn't even apologetic or offering to fix it. While she was blow drying it I was just quiet because I'm not one to complain but it was obviously gray and she just said "don't worry when you wash it the toner will wash out". If someone is paying over $200 for a PARTIAL highlight, you should get it right the first time, not send them home to fix your mistakes. read more

I purchased an urban decay eye liner that was broken and went to return it and she told me to go look for another one to replace it and I couldn't find it, so this Chinese looking girl tells me to get back on line after I already was online , this place doesn't care about there customers and the fact I already waited and she wanted me to wait again upsets me . I agree with a reviewer with an earlier post that there are helpful staff and specific ones that are not worth your time. Working in a customer services industry, you should not look miserable and have a rude temperament. The initial associate that assisted me had a terrible attitude and it resulted in me putting a number of items down that I was interested in purchasing. After I had a chance to re assess my purchases so I would be able to use my coupon, I had another associate assist me and she was friendlier and more helpful. It is a hit or miss with associates when I have questions but, if I am running in for a standard item the coupons definitely makes it worth a stop. read more

I have had several haircuts and color appointments with her, and I always leave my appointment completely blown away by her talent and dedication to her profession. I was just in on Sunday 1/11/2015 I asked the manager Jessica for some help and she was quite rude! She seemed annoyed that I would be asking her for some help like it's not her job to help me. She kept huffing & puffing, had no idea about the products the store she manages sells! She kept saying "I don't know" or "we don't carry that" never showed me an alternative for what I had wanted! I left with nothing! I had to go further down route 9 and into the crowded mall to go to sephora to get some help, guess what?! Sephora found me an alternative to what I was looking for AND GUESS WHAT?!! Ulta carries the same exact product!!! I checked their website & then went into the store today to see if it was in the store & it WAS! Jessica told me "No we don't carry anything like that." And it was right there!!! She didn't even look or ask anybody else to help me! I am livid! Nobody there knows what they're doing it's disgusting. The manager is rude. I am only giving them one star for one reason, they answered the phone. They didn't give the correct cut or color even after looking at the pictures that were brought. Why would anyone want them to "try" and fix it when it was a very simple cut . And you can't do anything about the color when the scalp is irritated! Would not recommend going here! read more

I'm glad Susan had a nice experience with that Abrum guy, he was so rude to me. I tried asking him about finding an eye shadow that better complimented my skin tone and he looked at me like I was bothering him. He was talking with someone else that worked there. It sounded like they were gossiping about other employees and they were both ignoring all the customers. I finally spoke up and he looked at me like I had done something wrong. I had to repeat myself several time before he finally responded to me. I was going for a different look and had questions about trying some new colors, I had every intention of buying a new eye shadow, maybe a new palette, eye liner and a couple of lipsticks. Since I was wanting to experiment I wanted to keep the price down in case I didn't like it and since I'm still in school I didn't want to burst my budget. I tried explaining that to Abrum because he only wanted to show me prestige brands and they all seemed to be at least a few dollars more than ulta's store brand or others that may have been on sale. He told me "beauty isn't cheap" the way he said it kinda condescending and almost hateful, like he couldn't be bothered with me if I didn't buy the best stuff. Susan has a point maybe they are on commission and he felt like I really wasn't worth helping. What ever it was I wasn't going to be made to feel uncomfortable so I made up and excuse about having to think about it to get away from him. The store looked really nice and I might go back but not any time soon, and if I do I will make sure to avoid Abrum. Went with a girlfriend because I don't know nothing about makeup (I am allergic to EVERYTHING except lipstick) to prepare to apply for an Enhanced New York I.D. Am sorry I can not remember the young man's name, but he directed me to the lipstick/lipliner combos that were available (there were two) and I knew what color I wanted (berry) and I had to choose between the two (very little difference) with him and my girlfriend's help. With their help, I was able to choose the one most appropriate for me (one had a matte with a slight frost and the other was a plain matte). Also got a makeup pencil sharpener, from which there was two to choose from. My girlfriend got her questions answered about magnetic eyelashes (I didn't know such a thing existed!) Reminds me of the makeup counters in high end department stores (I don't know if they still exist.) My girlfriend and I will return for any makeup needs (she has a lot more makeup needs than I do! LOL!) we may have! read more
