I went to The Renton Ulta Beauty Sunday around 6PM. My experience was amazing. The store was somewhat busy, and I was still greeted and Krystal with beautiful red hair assisted me with my whole shopping list. She maintained eye contact has great suggestions and options. Got really bad vibes from the really short hair girl. Asked her about products and she kept cutting me off asking what did I want. I got so irritated I walked off. Definitely shouldn't be in customer service at all if this is normal attitude. But if she's having bad day she should call out sick. Even avoid her second time came in! Just bad energy. Luckily, I didn't let her ruin my mission to get products there. Went to Abigail and she was the nicest person ever. Patient! Kind! Knowledgeable! And giving!! She even told me about Kirsten the esthetician and I made an appt and even loved Kirsten! She's the Esthetician I've been waiting years for!!! She took care of my milia problem!!! I paid $475 with a $200 tip to Ulta. I really didn't want to say anything. But I even went back and asked how much it would be to fix it. They said around $400, but with only the front, just $175 more. I learned my lesson. $675 I could get my hair highlighted with actual gold. I went to another salon and they asked me if I did this to my own hair! But for $100+ a hefty tip. They made me feel like me again! I did like the people in Ulta, but Ulta is a great at selling product and that's about it. read more

Had a full color, cut, and shampoo done by Jazzy and I am in LOVE!!! I am really a low maintenance person, so having done something like this to my hair, I was blown away by the results. The first time I saw Maggie she was really sweet. Her 'assistant' at the time 'washed' my hair. Maggie styled and cut it but the wash wasnt good. Leaving the salon my hair was flaky from the product that was in my hair prior. Before leaving I did ask Maggie next time can they wash my scalp and hair she said yes. But i also realized my hair was flaking from the old product. Like i said prior, Maggie has skills, but looking back she should have doubled checked her assistant's work. Also I gave Maggie the benefit of the doubt and rebooked with her. My second appt (4/15/2023 @3:30- I was 12 minutes late and learned about a 'policy' that they had that wasn't disclosed, like any other business does. Maggie told me when I was eating around after being checked in for a few minutes that "we are like a doctors office, if your 15 minutes late we will need to cancel your appointment and reschedule" Im thinking that the non- disclosed 'policy' of being 15 min late is Maggies policy. Not the stores. If so it would have been in the text & they probably would have trained everyone to disclose it. Not to mention per photo (email I sent to management at Ulta) I was 12 min late and they cancelled my appointment even after I called to inform them I was running 12-15 minutes late. It would have been nice to have been told that while I was on the phone with them, and not when I arrived at the store. Also if it was the stores policy, why doesn't all the other stores honor it & disclose the policy to their customers. This would makes sense of why the receptionist wasn't upfront about it, because it may just be Maggie's policy. Regardless its not how you run a well operated business. I have A MBA among other degrees and have consulted Poor customer services tends to catch up with a business. Also the embarrassing comment of "gotta get in your roots" in front of other customers who aren't ethnic, black etc is a bit much. Regardless no one wants to hear how much work their client hair is. I kinda now see how people of color can take/ percieve some of the staff at this store as racist in these yelp reviews. Btw I wouldn't have been late if i didn't feel the need to pre-wash my hair. Sometimes giving people the benefit of the doubt isn't worth it. After I left the store in Renton, I sat in my car shocked on how I was treated, while looking for another appointment elsewhere. Since no one was able to see me until the following Thursday (per receptionist). I saw Maggie leaving the store on her cell phone going into her car. Hmmm I thought to myself, how much free time she has since she cancelled my appointment with her. Regardless, why couldn't she say to me that she had time to wash and style but not cut my har or something like that. Anyways, I drove off and waved to her. She saw me leave twice. Never again! Below is the email I sent to Ulta and per attached photo, is the reply I received thus far from Ulta's guest services Hello Im writing because i called to make an appointment with maggie over a month ago in the renton location for 4/14/2023 @3:30pm This was my second time for an appt with Maggie. I told them i wanted a hair trim, wash, & straightened On 4/13/2023 @ 5:27pm i answered the reminder call. During this call the receptionist told me about the appointment, yet she failed to tell me to not to be late. Because of a 15 min rule that they would need to reschedule This is the second time i spoke to someone via phone regarding this appt and no one told me about a 15 min rule On the day of my appointment 25 min prior to 3:30 i called the salon telling them ill be about 15 min late. The receptionist again did not tell me about the rule of not being 15 min late. I arrived to my appointment with one min to spare, still not knowing about the rule/policy. The receptionist walked away after i checked in. Im waiting 3-5 min and she comes back telling me i was 15 min late and they had to reschedule. Im like "what' i just spoke to someone and no one told me about this rule" the receptionist said she called me back after i called letting me know. Im looking at my call log, that call was 10 min ago, While i was driving Maggie explained the policy to me, which is fine. Yet like i told Maggie... i wasnt aware of the policy. The receptionist said she left me a message reminding me of my appointment and said it via voicemail. Which was a lie, i spoke to someone (per attachment) it wasn't a missed call, i answered the phone. I dont know if the receptionist is new or just doesnt care about communication & customer service. Before coming here, I've only had my brows waxed once in my life and I hated it because the skin around my brows got red and sensitive to the touch. After that traumatic experience, I vowed to never get my brows waxed ever again. I've been getting my brows threaded ever since. Ulta changed my view on brow waxing when I received a free coupon from them for a Benefit brow wax. Nikki was my brow waxer and I told her exactly what happened during my first ever brow wax experience and she listened and was very considerate and applied some special potion on my brow area to ease any skin suffering that may occur after the brow wax experience. I followed my favorite hair stylist Melinda from Ulta Factoria store to this store when she moved. I am not sure why this store is receiving low rating, but my experiences with the salon and the store have been great. Salon: I really like Melinda as she is willing to spend time understanding my hair texture and my desires. After trying so many different hair stylists, she's the only one who knows what kind of hair color I like. I won't go to other salons for hair coloring as other stylists only use the colors they like without considering my preferences. I also love the style she creates for me. After showing her some photos that I like, she knows what I want and could create something close to those photos while fitting me. Let's be honest and real about this. While I dream to be like some beauties in the photos, I am not those beauties, so it's fundamentally impossible to look like those beauties exactly. What I want is to have that kind of atmosphere and a style along to the line, but most stylists don't get that. Melinda does. Melinda also gave me many good tips to help me take care of my hair at home. The salon area is always clean. The staff clean the hair on the floor as soon as one haircut is done. Every time I walk out of the salon with a smile as I am satisfied. Store: The store is always clean and well organized. The staff is friendly. When I am checking out something, someone would always come to offer me help. It's not a super busy store when I was there, so I never had any issue to get help. I am always happy to shop here, and would like to recommend this tore to anyone who would like to try the salon. read more

Super rude staff (not everyone of course) but one lady - not sure her name unfortunately, got extremely upset with me at the hair dryer area and told me "that's not what it's used for." And looked me up and down with the dirtiest look. Every other ulta location has encouraged me to try the hair dryers etc to see how i like them before purchasing but the whole ordeal just made me put everything i had back. Also... what else are dryers used for?? Not sure if it's because I'm asian/how i look, but she was staring daggers into me like even talking to me was disgusting. Definitely not the type of person you want to be helping you! Edit: Seeing other people's reviews about being racially profiled makes me wonder if it's the same lady. She was around the back as well and probably meandered over to me. She was a POC as well however (which usually makes me feel more comfortable) but maybe she just didn't like asians? I went to Ulta today to get my hair dyed for the 1st time in my life.$289 bucks gone on a hair color I do not like. I frequent this Ulta a lot for make up and get a blowout/flat iron maybe once a month. That's normally great, no problem with that. I wanted to do a grey ombre/balayage. I have for a long time now. Now there was a few pieces I had tested about a month ago to see if it would take. But that could have been corrected with a color closely related to my own natural color. I showed Nicole the style and color I wanted and we talked about it and were on the same page. When I saw the lightening process take, I was very happy Now I will say, it actually came out cute. But it is not how I wanted it at all. I'm really disappointed. I did tell Nicole I liked it, but to be honest it's not what I wanted...at all. Fyi. My esthetician Kirsten is simply amazing! I see her regularly to help address the red splotchiness in my skin from working in a different climate with extremely hard water. She works her magic and I leave with substantially less redness, and incredibly moisturized skin! I love how my skin feels afterwards, and I always look substantially younger! I truly appreciate that Kirsten takes the time to explain what is causing my issues, and helps me understand what I can do on my own to fight my environmental challenges. Jazzy at the salon is a great stylist. My 14 year old son's hair has gone from straight to wavy in the past year and he's been having trouble with figuring out how to style it. Last November, Jazzy gave him a cut that really worked for his new hair type, showed him how to style it and suggested a styling product. Today she cut my hair and it's fantastic. I have a short inverted bob that I change up frequently, as I get tired of having the same cut at all times. I showed her about 3 photos of things that I liked, and asked her to do what she thought would work best, and she came up with an overall look that I love. She's cut my hair a couple of other times in the past year when my regular stylist at another salon was unable to fit me in, but now she will be my regular stylist. I love my hair! Hairstylist Zoey was patient and amazing with me as I am super fussy about my hair. Listening to all my concerns and the "issues" with my hair. After showing her a picture of the style that I wanted she suggested changes to meet the challenges of my hair, coarse etc. When I then went to get my hair colored by another stylist at another salon, the comments were who cut your hair, this is a great cut! Zoey knew that I was going to have ana interview the next day, so no pressure there! Zero stars for Vanessa. Twice now in the last couple of weeks, my family has walked in to Ulta and Vanessa never even acknowledged us. Me, my mom, and my sister. No, this isn't about the other employees there; Jaya and the others are quite friendly, but it is off-putting when we go directly to the Bare Minerals section where Vanessa is working and we are never greeted nor asked about our needs as she passes by us multiples times. It's degrading. I actually gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe she was busy with other things, but we were greeted by the other busy employees in such a way that made me think there might be some sort of implicit/explicit bias at hand on Vanessa's part that kept her from helping other (POC) customers because even as we were perusing the Bare Minerals shelves without a welcome, she happily started with other (WHITE) customers as they trickled in. I would be a little weary of going here for brow waxing plucking. I've gone to a different ulta (factoria) to get my brows done and LOVED the results and really enjoyed the process. But the lady that usually did them moved away. I was expecting the same sort of result & explained what I wanted. But, something was just off about my appt. It felt rushed. It took less then maybe 10 minutes which idk if that's normal but thats not what I'm use too. I didn't get the cleanest shaping/trim either. One brow I can tell she over trimmed. I have a picture of how it almost looks like there's a slit in my brow. I can fix it with brow coloring but still. I didn't notice it right a way until I got home and was styling them. So disappointed!! I just don't think I'm going to go back for that service. Save your money and go to someone you trust or get a referral! Or maybe try the factoria ulta! Where do I begin? They definitely need additional training on matching foundation to the correct skin tone. As you can see I was giving a foundation shade that was like four shades darker than me. She also tried it on in the store and told me once I started to blend it out it would look so much better. I went in because I wanted to get a concealer and foundation from a brand I've heard a bunch of good things about called Juvias place. I spent $38 on both the concealer and foundation. I asked the young lady for assistance in making sure my foundation shade was accurate and she seem to talk like she knew what she was doing but based on this foundation shade, that's totally wrong. As a matter of fact she and I tried three or four different foundation shades to test before she told me this one was my color and recommended I buy Nairobi 410.I live in a city opposite of Renton so it's gonna be inconvenient to have to take this back and I don't really have faith in having an accurate shade pick for me by people who are supposed to be qualified to do so. Definitely somebody needs training in foundation matching. Aside from that, the store has a ton of different make up brands and You can find just about any kind of make up items here, eyebrow pencils eyebrow products eyeliners foundations shadows. I'm sure the decline in staffing in retail settings is due in part to the bustling business of online shopping but I was shocked to see how short staff this location was yesterday. I went in to browse and wasn't greeted except when I walked in. The entire store was a mess and testers were missing. I was shocked how warm and hot some of the container felt when I picked them off the shelf to read ingredients or look at pricing. I hope it doesn't spoil the products to be under such hot and over exposed lighting, especially in the skin care. Over all I would hope Ulta would learn from its competitors to not become like Sephora where the decline in service, staffing, would just push us all away and simply use the store for returns only. Shout out to the nice hair dressed in back cleaning her brushes who actually held a conversation with me. I don't think I'd shop here again but I would hope with the advice on these reviews, they'll led the much needed support for staffing needs so shopping can return to a human interaction experience! read more

I had a bad experience with this Store. The staff, manager is not knowledgeable! But the guy stuff was nice. I tried a perfume and didn't know which it was on the boxed perfumes, the manager showed me the wrong one. When I returned it and asked for an exchanged, she didn't give me the 20% back to my exchanged item, since it was the manager's fault that I purchased the wrong one. I then went to check out and the lady up front was too concerned about her friend on the phone from ItCosmetics to even deal with me. I want to point out one of the beauticians was genuinely helpful, and any questions I had, I went to her. The rest of the time my sister and I were followed throughout the store. The store had probably one other customer other than my sister and I. About ten minutes in, they call in the cavalry. Everyone came out of the back to walk around the store to pretend like they were recovering the store and offer us bags -we declined three times. And it wasn't busy at all, but they had another person posted at the door after we entered. Overall, it was a very uncomfortable and disappointing experience. The least they could do is realize that we were receptive and polite when declining any assistance. I was looking for an item (robe that came with a perfume purchase]and they seemed clueless as to how to help me see if another store has the robe. I went to try their salon and got my hairstyle chopped. I asked if the stylist could follow the way it had been cut as I have been growing it out in that style for 2 years but she chopped it off!! It looks like a bowl cut with blunt ends, NO STYLE, and no layering, it sticks out all over!!!! it's AWFUL! so frustrating not to mention how long I spent getting that style. I was told she is a Master stylist. It just means she has been there a while and I was told that's how you move up to that level, this had NOTHING to do with skill, and this haircut is just a hack!! While they offered me money back, I don't care. I will not shop at Ulta again. Knew what I wanted and was planning to spend quite a bit but got so fed up from being repeatedly forcefully redirected to other products I wasn't interested in and having said products applied to my face with communal brushes without me asking that I left without spending a dime. Will avoid this location from now on. I left my baby with a sitter so I could come here and leisurely browse and enjoy myself and basically ended up being harassed and harangued (seriously, he just would not leave me alone!) out of the store. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!& don't shop there with your black skin cause you'll be followed & watched the ENTIRE visit while Becky robs them blind . There was a cashier but I asked for her specifically to check me out to show her that I was a platinum member (for 4 years) and that I WASNT STEALING. She was following all of the black women that we in the store at the same time as me. Also I might add that this woman was "fixing" the end caps when STALKING me, but the store still looked HORRIBLE and needed serious restocking (items out of place, all the velour lashes were mixed together, testers needed to be replaced, and the waxing area was a mess). New location at the Renton Landing, near Wildfin Grill and Red Robin. Huge parking lots, so not hard to find a spot. Large, fully stocked, store. Clearance up front near the cash registers. There is a salon in the back of the store as well as a Benefit Brow Bar. Check on the website for an occasional coupon. Very friendly staff. Sephora has always been my makeup spot, but Ulta carries some brands they do not - such as NYX, which has quickly become one of my new favorite makeup brands. They do carry a lot of other higher end brands including Smashbox and Urban Decay. They also have a large fragrance section, as well as a ton of hair products/tools. Now for the main part of my review..... Benefit Brow Bar is my 100% go to place to get my brows done - I won't let any other establishment touch them anymore. Typically I go to Bellevue, but since I've moved I've been trying to find the time to come in to this location to get them done. Jasmine is absolutely fantastic. She does a great job and is super fun and friendly to talk to during the process. I was able to just stop by without an appointment, but generally I would suggest making one.
