I really like Ulta and usually prefer it to the alternative. Unfortunately, they didn't have the one Fenty item I went in for so I opted for other options. The workers were not helpful. One even told me they didn't have what I wanted and basically refused to check. Finally someone looked and found it, I was nice this time . Someone was doing eyebrows and I stood there refused to acknowledge me. I understand she was in an appointment but at least say "hi", "I'll be with you soon", something but nope I got nothing. I love positive energy, but when the same compliments were given to a lady behind me I started to notice that it wasn't so genuine. I usually love coming to Ulta, but this location specifically just has workers constantly checking on you asking if you need help after politely declining (2/3 times) but in reality it's like their hogging over your shoulder making sure you're not stealing anything. This Ulta has one of the larger selections of inventory. It is large and clean. The products are generally higher in price than what you will find elsewhere but there are a few advantages to shopping at Ulta. If you don't like something for pretty much any reason, you can bring it back. There's no risk in investing in a product and you can find what really works. When shopping, the floor staff will ask you frequently if you're finding everything ok. Talk to them about what you're looking for: I always learn something new about which products will work for me. The salon was able to get me in before a job interview on short notice, which I really appreciated. I recommend calling to make an appointment the first time you go because they can help you figure out exactly how much time to book. I have been to two stylists: Lexis and Kayla. Both were excellent. I was able to be really specific with Lexis about what I wanted. She was very accommodating and my hair came out beautifully. Kayla is a genius when it comes to coloring ideas and has helped me figure out which products to use with my finicky hair in different seasons. Tracy did my eye brows and added Lashes (Temporary) ! She was fantastic .... I love my eye brows and it was fun to get my lashes for a day. Love Ulta Salon, too. For purchasing some skin treatments, they gave me a free products bag they were handing out to anyone who purchased so much in product. The salon is very busy and upbeat, kind and professional. Molly cut, styled and foiled my hair. Since I hadn't had that done in a while, it was such fun to work with Molly. Very very talented. She knows what she's doing and well worth the expense. Full disclosure: I received a complimentary lash lift service for being a Platinum Member because this was a new service at their salon. With that being said, I arrived to my appointment 5-10 minutes early and went straight to the salon to check in. There were two stylists that I could see with other clients, and I could tell they saw me too, but just ignored me. No "Hi, someone will be right with you," or "Hi, have a seat and we'll get you checked in." Finally, about 5 minutes later, someone came and checked me in. I waited another 15 minutes (past the start of my appointment time) until my eyelash technician came out to greet me. I had to wait another 5 of so minutes for her to clean up from her last client and get all set up for me. Now, I'm already impatient and a little irked because I've had a bad experience at this salon years ago. Finally, 20 minutes past the start time of my appointment, I get called back. The salon at Ulta is pretty open, but I assumed since I was getting my lashes done that I'd be brought back to a more private area because you have to be reclined with your eyes closed the whole time (a little more vulnerable position than just getting your hair done,) but noooooope- I was wrong. I was brought over to a station on the side, but still very open that shoppers were probably less than 10 feet away from me, the only thing in between me and them was the counter that the technician had laid out supplies. I was in a regular salon chair that reclined about 45 degrees, and then they pulled another salon chair across from me so I could put my feet up. Not what I was expecting, and pretty janky, if you ask me. Anyways, the technician briefly just told me that the only aftercare was that I couldn't get my lashes wet for 48 hours to let them set, and then we got started. She didn't tell me what the process was or how long it would take, these were all questions that I had to ask her. She answered them pretty straight-forwardly, but did not really elaborate. She seemed very nonchalant about the whole thing which made me feel pretty uncomfortable since this was the first time I've ever had anything done to my lashes. Luckily, I did some research beforehand, so I knew what questions I had. She also told me she had been doing lashes for about 2 years, and that this service was only new to Ulta salons, so I was hopeful that she knew what she was doing. The whole time I was in the chair with my eyes closed, I could hear the other stylists and employees in the salon area just gossiping and chatting in a very unprofessional manner. They didn't seem to care that there were customers on the floor and didn't care if they were overheard gossiping. At one point, a customer ask my technician where a certain product was (mind you, because I was practically ON.THE.SALES.FLOOR) and she just pointed the customer in the general direction of where she thought it was. After the customer walked away, she made a rude comment about the customer to another employee, while she was working on my lashes! WOW, the unprofessionalism! Upon opening my eyes to check out my new lifted lashes, I was HIGHLY disappointed. Although you can tell a slight difference in a profile picture, you can't tell that I even had anything done to my lashes front on. She gave me glaze after the lift which is essentially a black coat to make it look like you have mascara on for the 48 hours you're not allow to get your lashes wet, but it was ALL over my eyelid and she did a pretty sloppy job trying to clean it up. Again this was a free service, but I still would expect them to do a good job, if 1.) They offered this so technicians can get more practice 2.) You want your customers leaving happy, returning for the service in the future, and recommending it to family/friends I definitely will not be returning to the salon for any type of service. I hope others who received lash lifts has better results than I did, because it would be a shame to offer a service that didn't produce the expected result. Finally, they need to figure out another set up to do these that don't leave clients out in the open or sitting in an uncomfortable reclined chair. read more

I am a fan of Ulta, but I'm not a fan of this location. The service I received here was the worst I've ever been treated in any make up store, and frankly in any store I've been in. I am a person of color (if you didn't get that from my profile picture), and I like to wear lipstick. I had some time to waste before I went to a friends, so I decided to come to Ulta in Roseville. Normally, I go to the Woodbury location because I live closer to that one. I went over to the urban decay section and started looking at the different colors. I have been into UB lately. I had just gotten 2 colors from a friend. Anyway, I had been there about 10 minutes before a sales person comes over to me and asks if she could help me find a color, with an annoyed look on her face, I said, no thank you just seeing what else they have, because it's hard to tell online which would look good on me, since the models and I don't have the same skin color. She replied with "fine then" and rolled her eyes. My jaw dropped. The rest of the time I was there walking around the store, I felt someone watching, and when I looked up, she was. She was just staring me down. I would walk over to one location and she would follow. She was tracking me so hard, and it was the most uncomfortable I had felt in a long time. I ended up buying a lipstick I didn't even want because I felt she would stop me and/or call the police if I didn't buy anything. I will never go to this store again. If I remembered the salespersons name I would have called the headquarters and complained for how discriminatory they were being. read more

Trying to do an even exchange and the sales associate was beyond rude! I will take my business else where!

Got my hair done here and it was absolutely awful. Asked for light brown hair instead I got black with hot roots. I left with darker hair than when I came in. It took 2.5 hours when it should've taken 1.5hours. It took the person 15 mins to try and figure out what colors to mix. She got the entire back of my shirt wet when she was washing it out and when blow drying she burned my scalp. No styling was done afterwords. I should've done it myself. Waste of money and time. Another technician was mad and sulking none of her appointments came and was very rude about it. When she found out she was doing a perm she immediately went to cancel it. She was not polite at all. Ever since I found out about the return policy, I'll be buying pretty much all my makeup here. As long as you either have the receipt OR you entered your phone number when you bought the item, you can return it, used, for any reason, within 60 days. I am a tad neurotic about shopping. I need to check out all the options and do my research to feel like I'm making the best choice with my money, and not being able to try on or even swatch makeup before I buy it stresses me out. I can't tell you how many times I've bought foundation or lipstick, tried it at home, and realized it was the wrong color and I just wasted my money. So naturally, this return policy is a game-changer for me and has already saved me a lot of money. The other nice thing about Ulta: it carries drugstore makeup, so even if you don't have the money for $35 foundation, you still don't have to risk paying for something you're never going to use. Just wear it at home, and if you don't like it, return it for a refund or even exchange. No harm done. Some of the drugstore makeup is swatch-able (also a big plus to buying it here instead of at the drugstore), and some isn't. All of the high-end makeup is swatch-able, like at Sephora. Service is okay too. It's not outstanding, but whenever I'm there, I get asked by multiple employees if I'm doing okay, thus ensuring that if I have a question, I don't have to go on a fantastic voyage around the entire store just to find someone to help me. Selection is comparable with Sephora. Some of the high-end brands have a smaller selection here, others don't, but the fact that they have drugstore products and more hair appliances makes up for it. I also like the Ulta line pretty well. From what I've seen, it's a good affordable alternative. I have been pretty happy with the Ulta "Brush Bath" in particular. Overall, this isn't the most magical makeup store experience ever, but with their return policy and mix of high-end and drugstore products, I'm not gonna buy makeup anywhere else. read more

Worst Ulta location ever. I'm a former employee at another location and a platinum member. I'm always at an Ulta as I'm familiar with the products. The management encourages racism from its employees. We were followed by the colorful hair woman in each aisle and the Clinique man chased us down an aisle asking if we needed anything repeated times. We ended up leaving so upset. It saddened that I had to talk through what happened with my teen sister in law about it. THIS SHOULDNT HAPPEN. I was looking on line for a specific brand of shower gel. Ever get obsessed that way? So it led me to Ulta. It's in Roseville Commons. I was so happy to not have to deal with the main one across the street. I was in one of my 70's retro moods, and they carry Vitabath Gelee, which was the first shower gel ever. It came in a set for $20. But then I started looking around and for $5, I found Bodycology White Gardenia. They also have buy 2 get 2 free on their Ulta brand. I didn't look around the store, just kinda stayed in that one spot there was so much to choose from. I think this may be my new body shower and soap spot, just for the no hassle shopping alone. I like it better than Body Works in Rosedale Center.The clerk was very nice, and signed me up for the 2 free Issues of In Style magazine, and gave me one on the spot. This ulta really kinda sucks, but because it's the one closest to me, I frequent it... The workers are rude to you if you're shopping in the drug store side of the store, the workers are rude no matter what, really. A lot of the drugstore products are missing prices, it's really unorganized and most products are ruined. They set tester products out so that people will test only those, but (especially in the NYX products, everything is used and it's hard to find an eyeliner that isn't smushed or cracked. Then when you ask if they've got any that haven't been ruined, the women working get snarky, like you're inconviencing them. Ohhhh and don't use coupons unless you want side-eyed looks from whoever is checking out your items. I don't mean to be so negative, but as a frequent customer of this particular ulta, the above experiences are all things that I've seen happen or have had happen to me personally. I've started making the trip to the second closest Ulta store near me to avoid the attitudes that exude from this particular store. read more

The woman didn't listen when I told her that I had already asked someone else where a product was, so I ended up waiting 10 minutes while she searched the whole store, and then proceeded to tell me they would get it in next week. This place never has ANYTHING in stock. I get flyers from this place almost weekly, advertising who knows what, but when you go in, they will not have it. You name it, it's out of stock. I went in two weeks ago looking for Seche Vite top coat. One of the employees goes back to check on it, 'oh, sorry, we're out!' OK, could you order some? I call back two weeks later, 'looks like we're out of that!' (Called again yesterday--still out of stock) Make up colors--they will have maybe one of 6 in stock. Eyeliners? The one they have will be in a box that looks like it was run over by a truck. Pumps for large shampoo/conditioner? "I know it says you should get them for free, but we're out! Bring your receipt back Monday and we'll have some.' Come Monday the following week, 'oh, sorry! Sold out!" Whoever does the inventory for this establishment should be FIRED. Times are tough--I'm sure there are plenty of folks that could do a better job. Save yourself the time and hassle and order online. Skip this branch all together! read more

Last week I went to Ulta by the request of a previous hair stylist who had completely destroyed my once beautiful black hair into a frizzy orange and yellow mess. I honestly thought all my hair was going to fall out. The salon here immediately took me under their wing and showed amazing customer service as they fixed what I thought was impossible. I am so grateful for their expertise, especially Ana, to whom I owe my entire dignity! She used and recommended all the right products, thanks to her I have kept my hair and look like a normal human being again. Their prices were very reasonable and they even insisted on a second reciept to take to the stylist who had fried my hair the day before so that he'd give me a refund for his overpriced disaster. I keep trying to like this place, but I am done spending money at a store where the employees obviously cannot care less if their customers are happy or have a good experience. I've been in numerous times and have to stand in line with at least 3-6 other customers waiting with me, and there is one register open. Multiple other employees will come up to the cash wrap area, see the line, and WALK AWAY back onto the sales floor without helping. They are NOT with customers. It's like the employees are stationed in a certain area of the store and they are not allowed to help other employees or something. The last time I was in, I had a coupon to save $5 on a $15 purchase. I bought a bottle of conditioner that I thought cost more than $15. The employee tossed my coupon back to me after she rang me up, mumbling something about not meeting the dollar amount (my purchase was $14 and some change). I asked her what she said and she said "you didn't spend enough." No eye contact was made. HELLO!! This is where you UPSELL me! She didn't give a crap whether I spent money in the store or not. She should have suggested something for me, asked if I wanted to buy two bottles, etc. I worked in sales for years in the 90s and in the 2000s and this is common sense for sales. Instead I got my coupon back. Am I going to come back to the store to use it? NOPE. What a crappy customer service experience every time I am in this Roseville location. read more

I needed help color matching my sisters skin for foundation and concealer so I went to the front and the two ladies just stood their talking amongst themselves... one of them eyed me a few times before actually saying anything to me.. when she did say something I asked her to help me colormatch my sister and just by her demeanor you can tell she didn't want to help. My gripe isn't against Ulta it's about one of their stylist named Ginger. My experience with her was torture. I couldn't wait to get out of the chair. When she washed my hair she used cold water and was so rough. She gave a good hair cut but it was not relaxing. Just shoot me! This was one of the worst shopping experiences I have ever had. There were so many employees, the customers couldn't get to the merchandise; at least I think they were employees (they were all in Halloween makeup). No fewer than 5 asked if they could help me while I was just trying to look at products. When the MAC consultant dragged me across the store to look for a white eye shadow (I just HAD to see the MAC), she showed me three others and then said they were out of white. There was a clutch of 4 of them chatting at the main aisle crossroads so no one could go anywhere. There was a cart half full of merchandise, waiting to be stocked, that was in the customer's way, but was apparently invisible to the staff because it just stayed there, over an hour by the time I left. In spite of the crowd of employees, only two cash registers were occupied, one if you don't count the one where I cashed out which required calling a supervisor to divine the mysteries of the computer system. It was understandable considering the off duty employee trying to get one who was working to solve his personal problems. Something about a girl and his car the night before. This looked more like a Junior Achievement (apologies to JA) experiment than a business and they really should consider hiring a manager as there was obiously no one occupying that position while I was there. read more

First time Ulta customer, last time Ulta customer; at least at this location. The WORST customer service I've ever received. There were more employees than customers in the store and not one could be bothered to help me during my 15 minute stay. I asked for a brand that they don't carry, and instead of helping me with any alternatives, the employee just said "no" and walked away to go socialize with another worker. I know my face said "help me, I'm lost!" in more ways than one, but out of the 5+ employees that walked past me, not one offered to help. The most conversation I had in the store was with the cashier, who while seemingly pleasant was less than a gracious host. Sephora may be a little more crowded, but they will keep my business. I had the worst haircut of my life there. My hair is straight, thin, and does nothing unpredictable. I wanted a few inches off and slight layers. The hair dresser was incapable of doing an even job, one side had irregular chunks that were 1-2 inches different of other surrounding lengths. She asked me when she was done if I wanted anything changed and pointed out the big differences, she tried to fix them but I had to ask her to stop cutting. I went home and had a friend even it out for me and now it's ok, but I'm pretty upset I had to pay for that haircut. The other salon workers were gossiping about staff within earshot of the whole experience, and the sink area was full of boxes and clutter. Pay slightly more and go somewhere else, this place was terrible. read more

In regards to the amount of product and cleanliness of the store I will give it two stars... however, the customer service I experienced during my visit today is not even deserving of one star. I have been in out of this location every now and then and each time I have received below average help and assistance from the individuals working. Today, I found myself having to go above and beyond to get anyone's attention to help me and answer questions. My sister and mom were the only ones in the store at the time aside from one another customer, so a busy store does not even excuse them from their poor service. At one point one of the ladies even walked away after I said hello and tried to initiate a conversation. Another worker was not willing to assist in my struggle with finding a color corrector for my under eye circles and simply pointed to a general direction for me to figure out for myself. Another customer in the store was in agreement with the poor service, it was at the point where their CUSTOMER was more helpful in answering questions and providing service to me. I found out afterwards she works at Sephora. So, I will do my best in the future to either go to Sephora or make my way to another Ulta location because this one has never provided me with a good experience. read more

This Ulta has the worst customer service out of any Ulta in the area but it's the closest to where I live/work. I've been going here at least 2 times a month for the past 2 years and it's always the same: 1 person working the register with 6+ people in line, while 3-4 employees stand in a circle and talk to each other. Getting help is almost impossible as you have to interrupt their conversation and they act irritated when you do. Today I waited in line for 20 minutes while 1 girl was behind the counter with 7 people in line. She had to get a manager to approve a return and the manager came up, pressed a button on the computer, looked at the line and walked away. Again if it weren't the closest Ulta to where I am I would definitely never go here. Avoid it or expect to not get help and wait in line for longer than normal. The only nice thing I have to say is the girl working the register was very apologetic for the wait. read more
