They have a frequent buyer reward program. They often give out free samples at checkout. You can order online and pickup at store. There are numerous sales throughout the year. Four stars Ulta has a great variety of products; in fact, so many that better signage is needed so you do not always have to ask a staff member. Some shelves displaying products are low almost to floor and hard to access for this senior. Occasionally, staff seem too busy to assist customers. More staff may be needed. 5 Stars Because I am happy that Lands End clothing can be returned at Ulta. They even have a designated computer for LE returns. The process is quick and efficient. This girl is a huge Ulta Fan...sorry Sephora, ya just don't do it for me. Even while traveling I hit up the local Ulta for all my beauty needs. While in the area for a wedding, I stopped at this location for some of the "Ulta Beauty Line" eye shadow. My very sensitive eyes seem to love this line because it goes on smoothly and lasts all day. The inside of the store was very clean and easy to find what I needed. It was nice to see that the lines were fully stocked. *I also want to note that the beauty consultants here were very helpful, approachable and I really enjoyed chatting with them about makeup. read more

I was in desperate need of a haircut and the two salons I usually go to were closed. I booked a haircut with Eme. Upon arriving, Eme introduced herself and said another stylist had called out, and that she was going to cut my hair. Strange, since I had booked with Eme. While washing my hair, Eme asked if I wanted the deep conditioning treatment. I asked how much it was and she went to go check. I declined the treatment. The haircut went fine. While she was blowing out my hair, she asked if I wanted it blown out straight. I said sure. Upon checking out, I noticed my bill was $20 more than what it should have been, so I brought it to Eme's attention. She said since I had my hair blown out straight, it was an additional $20. That was not communicated to me and the haircut I booked included a wash, style and blowdry. I explained I did not see the need to be charged an extra $20, since she was blowing it out anyway and did not disclose any additional pricing to me. She quickly took it off the bill, but was clearly irritated in doing so. I paid up front and left. The haircut was average and I'm leaving a review for the shady way she tried to sneak in an upcharge. You need to be transparent regarding your pricing. Don't automatically do a service without communicating the increase in price. Other people might not check, but I did check. The overall experience was not as nice as a salon, so charging anything more than the listed price of $42 seems shady and money-grabby. read more

Wandered around looking for help for nearly 10min. Was looking for some makeup brushes as a present for the gf. Didn't know much about what I was looking for and was really looking for some guidance. I got two completely disinterested enployees. A found a brush, was looking for a tester was told "we don't do testers of brushes, they [Ulta] are weird about that" and then we stood in silence for a minute... They asked if I needed anything else and walked away as I started to answer. After such a wonderful exchange I just left. I've been to a number of Ultas throughout New England and this level of poor customer assistance was a first. Hopefully just an off day. read more

My review is for a makeup application. I had my makeup done for a special occasion. One thing that threw me right away is that the store doesn't open till 10am and you can't make an appointment until 10:15 at the earliest. This stressed me out because I was supposed to be somewhere at 12pm and I didn't have a lot of time. I was reassured that because I wanted a more "natural" look, I would be closer to a 45 minute appointment than an hour appointment. One thing that was nice was that I was seen right away (I went in at 10am because I was told my artist, Erica, was usually early). I didn't leave until 11:15-ish, though, so it was still an hour. I felt Erica was warm, friendly, and professional. I felt very comfortable with her. I sat in a high chair though, and after a while it was not that comfortable, although it never got unbearable. I'm not a big makeup person so I said natural and let Erica take it from there. When she was done, my sister (who is a big makeup person) was happy, so that was fine by me. I did like my makeup, but it was a bit darker than I would expect for a natural look and I felt like my lip color in particular (browner nude sort of color) wasn't a great choice for my complexion. I should have just stated explicitly what I was thinking (more raspberry) since the last time I had my makeup done, that's what the (private) artist chose and I felt it suited me well. At this point, it was time to go, so 100 percent on board or not, I figured it was good enough. I did appreciate that Erica spent some time finding the right shade for my foundation makeup as I have a light complexion. I think for $40 it was fine and any dissatisfaction I feel is on me for not at least trying to express what I thought natural would look like in my head. I got a lot of compliments in person (although I was sort of in the position where people feel obligated to compliment, haha), but I felt like it was a bit dramatic looking in photographs for a "natural" daytime look. Again, I want to reiterate that my experience is due more to me not knowing how to express what I was looking for than it is about Erica's capability as an artist. She is proficient and has a great "brush-side" manner, but she isn't a mind reader and she didn't happen to be on the wavelength my last artist was. read more

You may suspect I'm partial to Ulta because my daughter is one of their licensed Aestheticians. The truth is, I've been impressed by this business since its opening in our little town. This is one-stop shopping for all beauty related products and services. The layout of the shop is easy to navigate, every area is clearly identified and the staff well trained and knowledgable. When my daughter trained at the Aesthetic Science Institute she had me serve as her test subject for pretty much every type of facial. My before and after photos are evidence of the benefits of proper skin care. At Ulta Aliza recently performed a wonderful micro dermabrasian on my face, using Dermalogica products and I left feeling so good about my skin I posted a Facebook video, amazing only because I was not wearing makeup. I highly recommend Ulta at Niskayuna Commons. If you go, tell Aliza her mama sent you. read more

Went into the store knowing very little about make up but the staff was willing to help with anything I needed! They were friendly and knowledgeable as I was shown a variety of different products. The store has a great selection. I would definitely recommend this location. read more

Visited the Schenectady Ulta August 4th to return an item the staff at this location are not friendly , not helpful and rude, never ask one time if I needed help. I will not visit or return any items at this location again, instead I will visit the Ulta in Colonie Mall. read more

I had never been here before, only to a location in Virginia once and had a great experience so I made an appointment for a facial with Erica. I arrived a few minutes early, to be told she had called in sick...no phone call, nothing. I live 45 minutes from Ulta and was NOT happy. They offered me an appointment the next day and 20% off my facial. I accepted and drove the 45 minutes again the next day. As I was pulling into the parking lot, my phone rang and they told me she had called in sick again. At least I got a phone call that time, but nowhere near early enough to avoid the inconvenience of wasting gas and making that drive again. They again offered me 20% off. In my eyes, you've inconvenienced me TWICE now, it should be way more than 20% off. It didn't really matter though, at that point, I just wash my hands of your business. Zero customer service here. After the second time, sitting in the parking lot with nowhere to go, I called the Colonie Center location and they told me to come right over. They were able to fit me right in and it was fantastic! I also got 20% off as a new customer, so the 20% off that Niskayuna offered me for the inconvenience was not a deal at all since I should have already been getting it as a new customer anyway. read more
