I've only been to Ulta 3 times, maybe 4 from the time they opened Ulta in Tracy. Mainly because I've been a Sephora customer for years now and I'm more of an Online person. I recently moved to another city, and I noticed I'm LOW on supplies. Unfortunately I'm unable to order anything at the moment simply bc I'm in a new home and my address doesn't show up on the map yet. So while I was in town picking up supplies for my dogs next door, I decided to walk in to Ulta to see if I can pick up the things I needed. As I walk in the door, im lost, confused and I look dumb standing in the middle of the store trying to figure out where I need to go. I couldn't tell who were the associates working because I kept hearing a lot of personal conversations on the floor. I'm looking and looking for someone to help me, I turned to the brow bar / perfume section (I think that's what it was) and I said "excuse me" 3 times to a worker who was talking on her headset w another worker. She turned and I asked if they carried Tatcha cream, she immediately responded "that's exclusively sold at Sephora only". That's it. Then turned back around. I wouldn't of mind if she offered alternatives for that cream or if she bothered to ask if I was looking for something else, because yes, I came in with the intention of restocking and also I was interested in body scrubs. After she turned, I walked around the store for about 5 minutes, i came back toward the front and luckily I saw the body scrubs, I got about 5 things but decided to just leave without purchasing more bc I rather give my money to someone that actually appreciates customers. Whether it's online or in person. I work in customer service myself for 10+ years, this was not acceptable. Long story short, train your workers on customer service. Also, personal conversations that include somewhat of profanity should be done in the back. read more

Worst place to go for coloring your hair. I will not recommend anyone to try this place. Salon people are clueless how to highlight hair. They completely destroy my niece hair. She even showed them the picture how she want her hair to look like. Worst ever $100 dollar spend. read more

I recently moved back to Tracy and needed to find a new hairstylist. I was able to get in quickly. Sarah, gave me a haircut, she's fantastic! The consultation was done well. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she nailed it. I have long wavy hair and a lot of hairstylists just start blow drying it straight and then want to curl it with an curling iron right after the cut. I always appreciate a stylist that notices that I wear it wavy and then asks if I want it styled wavy. I walked out feelin' like a million!! Thanks Sarah!! This location, the employees are only focused on talking to each other vs helping out customers. When asked for help, the sales lady half looked and showed she was uninterested in helping. After being in the store for about 10 mins with no good service, I left. And to add insult to injury she had the nerve to check and see if I was buying the product or not. This review is for the Ulta salon. I went after 1.5 years of dead ends and they took me in even though they were super booked. I think the stylist, Maryann, had to skip her lunch and I'm super grateful. My hair looks amazing and even though I said I didn't need a blowout she still did it and spent a whole hour on my haircut. I got amazing volumizing layers and curtain bangs. Totally IG worthy lol and my hair feels super luscious. I finally broke down and went to Ulta. I had been putting it off, because I can do some serious impulse buying in a beauty store. My weakness is nail polish. I love trying all the new colors and I love gifting it. The selection there is really good. You can buy everything from lemon yellow to gold confetti to blue velvet. If you see something in a magazine from one of the stalwarts like Cover Girl or Maybelline you want to try, they probably have it. Those racks are all well stocked. They didn't have the one thing I went in for, a particular brody butter from Soap & Glory, but I did buy something that might be a good substitute. The Ginger & Company's Soft on You Body Butter goes on creamy and leaves your skin with a soft, satiny finish. It seems to last, too. I'm not too crazy sbout the smell of the Ginger and Spice. It's almost too subtle. The aroma is one of the things I really liked about the one they didn't have. I might just see if they can order the one I like. I originally found it at the store in Emeryville. Service was fine. Nothing to complain about and nothing to rave about. I will say the staff aren't experts yet. At least not the one I talked to on the floor. Since it's a new store, that can slide. There are so many brands out there, it will be a whlie before they are totally up to speed. ZERO RATING. Worst experience ever! I made an appointment for a hair color touch up. Was asked to moved up my appointment to an earlier time, which I accommodated. Arrived at my appointment, waited 15 minutes, again I accommodated. Was then told they don't have the color for my touch up and was asked to come back. What kind of salon don't keep up their inventory?! Would have been nice if the salon would have notified before my appointment that they didn't have my touch up color. Boo! You'd think that I'd learn my lesson the first time around of getting my hair done there, right?!! No! I decided to give them a second chance and it was disappointing to say the least. The problem was that I hade also gotten a trim and it was suppose to be a long layered trim, not "choppy" and short. The colours didn't penetrate my hair and did NOT cover up my roots. Then the hair colourist hinted that it may have been my hair. My hair was the problem, can you believe it! I've been using REDKIN products forever at other salons and have never ran into problems with their products. They told me that they'll colour my roots again the following week for free. I had a 2:00pm appointment for a cut and style in the salon today. When I got there, she had someone else in her chair and was just starting the foil process for color. I was told that if I waited 30 minutes I could be worked into the schedule. Seriously!?!? The last time I had an appointment I was checked in and was told I could walk around the store and browse while I waited for her to finish up. While I was 'browsing' she took a walk in for a haircut because she wasn't told I had checked in. My appointment was at 6:00pm and I finally sat in her chair at 7:20. I ended up leaving the store at 9:50pm. After speaking today with a manager, Melissa, I was told that the appointment system they have allows check-ins for that stylist until 3:15pm. I clarified that to mean that 'the system' essentially double books clients, which Melissa confirmed. Melissa asked if I had booked the appointment online, and I told her that I booked the appointment directly with the stylist the last time I was there. I even received the appointment confirmation text. Melissa offered to schedule another appointment with the new salon manager within the next week at a time that was convenient for me. I told her that the appointment I had scheduled for today at 2:00pm was convenient for me. Melissa explained that this is an ongoing problem with their appointment system and encouraged me to file a formal complaint with corporate so that they would be able to take corrective actions to resolve the issue, which seriously makes NO sense to me at all. So store managers aren't able communicate with corporate to resolve an ongoing customer service issue and can only perform as damage control agents??? Melissa apologized and sent me home with hair product samples for my troubles. I accepted the samples and plan on donating them to a women's shelter. I will be looking for another salon, and will skip the hassle of walking into Ulta for future beauty supply needs. read more

I enjoy shopping at ulta. However, this location is one of the worst I've been too. I went there this evening to look for a specific hair color. I really enjoy the lime crime color line and they carry it. I'm not familiar with this location so it took my a little bit to find where the color was. I was approached numerous times by various employees asking if I was finding everything okay. They kept following me around the store like I was stealing. I wasn't able to shop in peace! I understand theft probably happens frequently but learn how to read the signs. I'll just order my color online and definitely go to sephora for my makeup from now on. I love the salon here they do the best hair. Stacy is the best hairstylist I ever been to. I have to day she cuts hair better than the other stylist.I have been to others. Sorry I have to say Stacy cuts hair the best. I mean I haven't been able to comb through my hair for a while the layers grew out. This store in general is a nice, clean, fairly good selections of products but what this location lacks is CUSTOMER SERVICE! Don't get me wrong they're some employees which were friendly and happy to help which is great, but the cashier that my sister and I encountered was very unprofessional she was rude and we felt as if we were being rushed. Whenever I come into this location with a question the associates do not seem willing to help or knowledgeable about their products. So if you are going into a store to ask about a product.. you may want to travel a little more to Dublin or Modesto, I found employees are a lot friendlier and knowledgeable there. Went into Ulta to get my brows done and Hali from the benefit brow bar helped me out. Best brow experience I've had. She maps out my brows so I don't have to worry about surprises of too thin brows, which I appreciate because getting my brows done was always never racking until now. Hali is gentle and always efficient. She always explains step by step what's she's doing. I found my new brow lady! She's AMAZING! Also she does a good job filing in my brows after. We went to the new Ulta this morning. It was everything that you would expect of an Ulta. The workers were helpful and friendly. The store was clean. It was busy because it was the grand opening and they were giving out free gift cards. The store was large and had all of the products that are to be expected. There are tons of workers right now so it's easy to ask questions and find products. Make sure to print your coupons before you head to the store. There's always coupons. The store is a complete mess! Perfume sections is sloppy, lots a empty makeup slots throughout the store, they desperately need to restock this store in a major way! I tried a foundation that turned out not to match when I put it on in different lighting, and they let me return the lightly used product for a full refund. Now THAT is awesome. I wish I could give Ulta a 4 star and I just couldn't although the store is very clean(obviously its new) and the staff were all very helpful, everything was stocked my issue was with the Benefit Brow Bar. Every 3 weeks I would drive to the Benefit Brow bar in Dublin or Pleasanton and I loved the girls' work so I was very iffy about getting my brows and top lip waxed by someone new. I was very skpetical about going but i figured if I want to avoid the 45 minute drives I need to give the Tracy benefit a try. I swear I went in with every good intention however I was disappointed with my wax. The girl who did my eyebrows seemed like she didn't want to hurt me. She pulled the wax strip off way too soft which obviously wasn't taking all the hair OR wax off my skin all the way. I thought getting waxed was supposed to burn a little but this girl wasn't really putting an effort on "pulling" off the strip. After she cleaned me up and I was walking away my top lip and eyebrows still felt sticky from the wax. And sure enough after a couple of minutes I had dried up wax on my skin, which many of you may know you have to take off with some kind of baby, olive, almond oil. Not only was I sticky but when I went out in the sun and looked in the mirror I still had a little bit of hairs that she didn't get off. Like I said I had every intention to like her work just so I could avoid having to drive all the way to Dublin, but who knows I might give another Benefit employee a shot and see if they can top my last experience. read more

UPDATE 3/3/2015: I forgot to update this until now. I was trying to get an ombre-melt, and a trim (no layers.) 4 hours later, I hated my hair. The melt was orange. The girl said she would fix it for free another day-like she was doing me a favor. The day she fixed it, it ended up being a real gross blonde color that was super choppy and misplaced. My trim was mediocre at best. Not to mention she got bleach on my new black shirt, and didn't offer to pay for it or even apologize. Since then, I've had another stylist fix it- twice. It's taken 2 times to make it even look O.K. I know, I know.. it's my fault for trusting Ulta with my hair (no offense.) Just consider yourself warned. I read all the reviews, and wanted to give you a play by play real-time review. I have an appointment with Jessica at 12:00pm for a haircut. I walked into Ulta and was greeted right away by an employee. Walked back to the salon and Jessica greeted me and said she's just finishing up with a client. It's 11:53am. She had me sit down at 12:10pm, and was super nice the whole time. Like all women, I'm real articulate with my hair and she was way chill and understanding. They can't do hair or make up. I seriously could of done a better job and I will never be back for any of their services.
