Good selection of products with a range of price points. However, my low rating is due to the horrible customer service. I am never greeted at the door. I am never asked if I need help finding anything. All of the employees are hanging out with each other having personal conversations instead of trying to actively engage the customers. When I finally ask for help finding things, I am given the run-around and it is obvious they feel inconvenienced by questions. This has been my experience at multiple Ulta locations. It makes it pretty frustrating to shop here and I usually end up leaving without anything and decide to purchase it online from the individual brand instead of supporting a company with such lacking interest in customer service. Never had an issues until recently. I understand this store must be a high theft one after my experience. I spend several hundreds a month not only for myself but for my family as well. I went in here on my day off to do some shopping and brought my mother to treat her to anything she wanted. To make a long story short, My mother and I were followed the entire time by security (which I don't really mind because I wasn't stealing) however it did upset my mom. Then when I went to check out the cashier acted like my account wasn't mine because I had almost a hundred dollars in Ulta bucks and made me show my drivers license. The whole experience was very uncomfortable. I now plan on shopping at Sephora and boxy charm. Your loss Ulta. I'm wondering around the store finally, a kind girl comes from behind the counter and asks if I need help. She helps me get the two products I was looking for. I walked around a bit more and headed to the register. The pack of women held there gaze my way. No smile. No hi. No growl. Just looking. I get to the register to check out. She was nice. Then I walk out the door to leave. The pack of women women did not say one word! No smile, no hi, no thank you. So I decide to be the bigger person and tell them to have a good day. Not one response. Not one. I get that they are probably used to people stealing ... I get that. So the pack of wolves at the entrance would have better luck spreading out and speaking to customers as they come in. I made a hair appointment by phone and when I got there they didnt have my appointment. Then the manager saw my name and accused me of hanging up on the person who answered who was "going to tell me" that she could take me 15 or 30 minutes later. As a business owner and nursing mom of 2, I am frustrated that I now dont have my hair done for tomorrow's presentation. Nothing about her seemed managerial or even presentable as a hair dresser. Submitted an online order and called a few hours later because I was not given an update on my order. Whoever answered the phone informed me my order would be ready in the next 30 minutes. Shortly after , I got a text stating my order was cancelled, I called back to find out why and was informed the items were out of stock. How LAZY can you be to physically walk over there and check Instead of checking your horrible inventory which clearly does not have the right information. Here I am 7 1/2 months pregnant shopping with my two children yet the security guard is following me and staring me down thinking I'm trying to steal!! And when I do find staff members, most of them are just standing around in groups and chatting away. When I got the chance to pull one aside to ask for recommendations for powders, the girl was just naming brands without explaining why she's endorsing any of them. I bought a Mac product and the deals it's get something from Mac over $30 and you get make up only for 30 minutes that's what they told me, I went there and the employee only did eyeshadow and eyeliner for 15 minutes horrible job the eyeliner wasn't even straight, this morning she woke up with no desire to work, it was an "makeup artists" from Mac red hair with pink fringe. if the store offers this they should make sure they actually do what they advertise!!! read more

I went in today to use a gift card I received for Christmas. First off, there were employees smoking by the door (not off to the side, but about 3 feet from the door). I walked in and wasn't greeted. I even made eye contact with the security guy...not a hello or smile. I walked around the store for at least 10 minutes and wasn't greeted. I finally was asked if I needed any help and by then, I just wanted to find $30 worth of stuff and get out of there. I ended up with mascara, conditioner, and a free mascara. I don't think I'll be back to Ulta (this or any other) anytime soon. I have been to Ulta a total of 4 times (3 different locations). I don't like Ulta. It's like going to Wal Mart. This is my second time to shop at Ulta in this location. After a while looking for eyeshadow and setting powder from Laura mercier.. I saw a sales associate (a slender petite black hair woman)walking by and ask her to help me and she was kind to help me in my inquiries but when she's done another customer ask her help before I can ask another inquiry and she got busy assisting another customer and that is ok God bless her. But other employees who were just chatting and walking around. In general , horrible horrible customer service. Something is off in this place. This review is specifically for Jennifer, the manager on duty, as it is apparent even her staff is appalled by her behavior. I received multiple gift cards and went into the store to ask what I could do in combining the cards as the online store only allows 1 gift card redemption per order. I researched this ahead of time and was told that customer service could combine them taking up to 48 hours or go into a store. I approached a salesperson at the counter to ask what I could do and was immediately intercepted by Jennifer telling me to redeem them online. I explained that ulta.com only allows for one redemption per order and that's why I asked to look into combining them. First, she flat out tells me I am incorrect about the online method although Ulta's own twitter confirms this. When I asked about combining them, she immediately raised her voice and told me "if you don't like it, you are welcome to leave." What the hell? I'm being asked to leave for asking questions? I asked if she could call corporate and confirm what I was told. All she did was look at my stacks of gift cards (which I brought the gift receipt for) and shut me down immediately with NO and more inviting me to leave. I then tried to end the conversation explaining that I would make my in-store purchase and deal with the online section at a later time. She continued to YELL across the store at me "if you don't like, you're welcome to leave!" multiple times. This was humiliating and even more humiliating when she openly asked the security guard to follow me around the store. I've been a platinum member for years and have never encountered this kind of treatment from the Redding, Pleasant Hill, or Fairfield, CA locations EVER. I'm done at Ulta. I'd rather pay more at Sephora and not be publicly humiliated for asking questions. Jennifer, you have no business in customer service. Real managers offer solutions to their customers, not escalate to threats when a followup question is asked. I worked in retail for a long time and know how abusive customers can be for no reason, but believe me, you earned the "F off" you received in return for your snarky attitude when I abandoned my bag at the register. Called this store Friday 9/22/17 and asked if they had the NYX Birthday palette in stock since everywhere else is completely out. Fortunately, they did. I had asked if there was any way they could put one aside so I could come and pick it up that same day or Sunday at the absolute latest. Someone there had said that they could not put aside the palette but confidently assured me that there would be enough available up until Sunday. I made my way to Vallejo from Fairfield to pick one up with the coupon Ulta had me emailed me just to be sure they would not go out of stock again. First impression of the check out area was that there was only one register open with a huge line behind me getting bigger by the second. There were multiple employees up front talking and not acknowledging the next customer in line even just to say "I'll be right with you" after they were standing there for a good few good minutes. It's opening weekend.... why is only one register open? I finally get to the register only to be told this coupon Ulta had sent me via email doesn't work until my actual birthday, 9/24/17. I'm there TWO days before my birthday with a COUPON Ulta sent me 9/10/17 for the free NYX Birthday Palette. I asked why Ulta would send me an email and the employee had told me, "it just doesn't work until your actual birthday. We hope to see you Sunday though." Extremely disappointing and misleading. I call today 9/24/17 and the palette is sold out- something an employee had assured me wouldn't happen because they had "plenty" of palettes to last until then. Thaaaaanks. Of course very disappointed. She, Judith is her name, then said there was an availability at 2pm, which is the time I initially wanted and it was for 30min. I was then told unable to make the appointment because computer wouldn't accept. Frustrating, I scheduled with sephora immediately no confusion or mistakes. What get me with some companies is when they make a mistake wr suffer, but when we make mistake we have to pay for time wasted. Ulta covers everything...brands that I only used to hear about from YouTube beauty influencers (Makeup Revolution, Morphe, Catrice, LA Girl, Essence, BH Cosmetics, etc.) And all of the standard stuff Maybelline, Cover Girl, Revlon, and so on). They also have the high end side...Too Faced, Benefit, MAC, Tarte, Lancome, and a slew of others. They also offer services for hair and makeup. They have a variety of perfumes and colognes and different lotions and potions. I can spend hours just aimlessly wandering the aisles. The ladies that work there are amazing. Always polite and very helpful but not in that follow-you-around way. Every one I encountered was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They definitely know their stuff. The store is well organized with the hot items front and center. I really enjoy shopping at Ulta because even if I only have a few bucks to spend I can always find something cute and useful. I went in here looking for an entirely new skin care line. I am 67 years old well-dressed and can afford to buy an upscale line. I could not get waited on. Even when i approached the sales staff. They referred me to other people. I finally found the skin care expert and she asked what I was interested in. I said anti aging anti wrinkle moisturizing line. She said ok left and never came back. I went to this location for the first time today. I usually go to the Ulta in Concord, but was in the area so stopped by to replenish my makeup products. When I walked in NOBODY greeted me, even though about 5 employees were standing around near the entrance and two of them were upper management. I was very surprised by their manner since they work retail, which means CUSTOMER SERVICE. Actually customer service is important at any place of business. I was under the impression that Ulta is a customer service oriented company, but that was not apparent at the this location. I love that there is an Ulta in Vallejo but my daughter recently went in to purchase something (for me) while I was running another errand and was told customers under the age of 18 are not allowed to come into the stores on their own. I then went in with her only to find that "policy" is not posted anywhere and the security guard they have is standing at the front door. If theft is an issue or loitering for that matter what is the point of having a security guard who truly does nothing to secure or patrol the store? I came I'm with an appointment to get my hair and makeup done on the day of my college graduation. Asked for a natural look and was terrified when Brittany turned my chair around & I saw what she had done. I looked like a drag queen!! I wanted to cry. The one who did my hair I did not catch her name but she was Hispanic, a little chubby and had long black hair. She didn't even bother to flat iron my roots at all so my hair was so poofy. She was so lazy and put curls going in every direction. My appointment was supposed to take 1.5 hours but ended up taking 2.5 hours even when I told Brittany I needed to be out of the at a certain time. She was too busy dying someone's hair and doing my makeup at the same time. So unprofessional. Was a very stressful day, never going back. I do NOT recommend!! The employees are very young and don't seem to be very knowable about other prouducts than the products they personally own/use. I've came in wanting to be color matched, had to return the foundation 3 times because associates keep matching me inside the store and when I would go home and see myself in the natural light the color was completely off! Associates always seem too busy talking within their peers than assisting paying customers. Here's a tip for the workers here, SMILE, it goes a long way and if you don't like your job then find another one. Don't bring your crappy attitude to work especially if you work retail!!
