My story: On Friday, May 2, 2025, my daughter and I went to Ulta Beauty in South Natomas, CA to shop and I wanted to use a gift card I had received for my personal purchases and wanted to BUY another gift card for my daughter's upcoming birthday. Both she and I spent at least an hour shopping and browsing the store; I had my purchases ready to buy. I came to the cashier with my purchases and my request to buy a Gift Card. After spending an hour in the store shopping I had to spend at least 20 minutes at the cash register since neither my gift card nor the gift card I wanted to purchase would "work." After about 15 minutes, the cashier, a very sweet young lady I will say, was doing her best to get the "gift card issues" working on her computer, until finally she called a "manager." Another 5+ minutes only to be told that their "system is down." Needless to say, I was not happy, did not purchase my items since I Had a GIFT CARD that could not be used that had been PURCHASED for me. I was told to go to Arden area Ulta even though that store has closed. Then I was told I could use it online; as though spending an hour and 20 minutes in their store is all for nothing. Just go home and order online. IF I wanted to do that, I would have done it in the first place. A billion $$ conglomerate can't keep their "system" running for their VERY own gift cards! Here is what customer service should be: I am SO sorry for your inconvenience (1 hour & 20 minutes only to walk out with nothing). Let me give you some "points"; or a gift reward. This rating is for the salon. In short, they do not know what they are doing. I went in for a gloss and I understood it may not cover my blonde highlights. The stylist told me overall color would be better and I agreed. But now I have permanent dye a the way up to the root that doesn't match and is a reddish hue. I asked her to fix it and she said I would have to pay again. It would be nice to talk to someone and explain the whole story. You can tell that the people working here hate their jobs. You gotta scavenge for those little perfume paper thingys to spray the samples on. This location is my least favorite when I need makeup because it's hard to get help even when they are not busy. I always get overlooked or ignored. Today was the last straw because an associate asked everyone around me if they needed help (and helped them) except me???...and that was the second time I had visited store within 3 hours. Had a hair appointment here the other day. I have very thick curly hair so I've been trying to find a stylist for a while now... and I'm definitely coming back here. All staff members are so kind and bubbly, I love that. The customer service is 10/10 these employees really outdo themselves. This is THE best Ulta Beauty I have been in. The employees at the Yuba City Ulta are rude and the store closes super early at 7p.m. they should be staying open until at least 8 p.m. (I work until 6p.m. and some of us work for a living) and by the way the Roseville Ulta is open until 8!!! When you come in at 6:30 they have a bad attitude and rush you out even 15 min before they close and it was as if it was an inconvenience for them that you are shopping there ....You might as well close at 6:30 or better yet, don't open your doors until you want to have customers in your store.. I don't expect them to stay in business at that specific Yuba City location and it's because of their poor customer service overall..It's too bad because I love shopping for makeup and stuff but now I will be doing my shopping elsewhere .. read more

I appreciate Ryan and there was a guy in there going above and beyond to test the foundations on my skin. However, as people of brown skin are migrating to this county even more..there needs to be MUA's of color that are African-American, Arab,etc. It was very humiliating that instead of getting the foundation I desired,I had to get the same one,when I wanted to try a new brand. I really like Ulta and this location is nice. Lots of selection and it's organized pretty well. Prices are pretty good and it's nice being able to find drug store AND high-end makeup in one place. Not to mention skin care and beauty products you can't find anywhere else in this wasteland of a town. My only issue is the employees swarm like sharks. I don't think I give off the appearance of someone who is going to shoplift buy oh boy. It's a constant stream of "can I help you" and "are you looking for something specific?" GIRL. I'm very frustrated to say the least. I made a hair appointment to get color and cut 6 hours in advance. I get a call from someone 1 hour before my appointment telling me that it needs to be canceled because they close at 6pm. Why would the time be available if it really isn't available? (4:15pm was my scheduled service). I then call back to just get a cut instead. They said they would call me back once the girl got off of her break. She never did. You'd think from all of the complaints this store receives that the DM would re-train that staff! read more

I started thinking and I started to describe the hilights I wanted, and the words that ended up coming out of my mouth were, "I just want to be sparkly." Somehow, Mary knew exactly what I meant. She is passionate at what she does and has a skill set that speaks for itself. The store is brand new so it is fabulous and immaculate. The entire staff goes out of their way to make sure every question is answered and you find everything you need. It's nice to have an Ulta in town, but it also can be dangerous on the pocketbook. This store is nicely organized. I have been here a few times, so far, and will admit I used to go to Red's, in an "emergency," when I was not able to make it to Roseville for hair care and beauty products. I would much rather continue to go to Ulta over Red's. I found out yesterday that I am on Ulta's "rewards" program, but haven't quite figured out what that entails as the cashier usually just punches in my phone number and says "oh there you are!" I appreciate a good bargain/discount and/or sale but haven't found too many here. Prices seem fair. Employees seem to be a hit and miss. I have never been approached to see if I have any questions; this can be both good and bad because I have seen a handful of employees just loitering around but at the same time, I usually know what I am looking for and don't really like to be bothered when I am on a shopping mission. Yesterday's check out was also kinda weird. A line had formed and only one cashier was working, with another two employees just gabbing it up, presumably on company time. I don't normally leave bad reviews but my experience last night was upsetting. I love Ulta and usually go to the Chico or Elk Grove locations. At this location, i was never greeted or acknowledged. Not a single employee checked in and it was difficult to find one. The cashier would ask me a question then ask again. Tried to make small talk as I always do because I worked retail for a long time as well. She had no interest. After I made my purchase, I had informed her that I was picking up an order as well. She asked for the last name and walked away before I could tell her that I was an alternate PU person. After she looked and came back she acted like I was stupid and just placed the order. I finally was able to tell her the other last name and she rolled her eyes and went to grab it. I apologized for the confusion and said thank you. She rolled her her eyes again and was very rude. I went into Ulta today and met the super Duo of Jenn squared! Jennifer one whisked me away behind a curtain and started doing things to my face. Lots steam, a few hot towels, gallons of amazing creams went into my face. An hour later I came out with a fresh new face looking 10 years younger. Jenn was amazing and kept me busy and talking the whole time. I felt like I was just hanging with my best girl friend and not getting a facial done. It was amazing!!! When I left Jenn I was sent to Jenny to wax my face. Jenny was calm while explaining to me what she was doing. She walked me through the steps of ridding me of my unwanted facial hair. When she was done she also walked me around the store to show me some of her favorite products. It was a wonderfully experience. I was treated like a princess. If I could give this ulta zero stars I would. I've been here twice for products and all of which were old dried out and faulty. All the glamnetic eyeliner is old and dried up and I've been there twice to have to return because didn't think all their products were like this. On top of that the Fenty beauty lipstick was also not the consistency it's supposed to be so they definitely don't store these products properly at all which is super dangerous. The store itself is filthy with actual black stuff on the floors and all over the products and walls. All the sample products are disgusting and litterally completely fallen apart and look filled with bacteria. Eyeshadows and lipsticks colors all mixed together and covering the displays And the workers walk around like there is nothing to be done. Do your job guys. An associate asked if I needed help I asked for a shampoo which I know they carry but she led me to vitamins and insisted they don't carry it. I found the product on my own after. The associate then asked another employee and she said yeah we have that it's over there. The first associate then screamed "hey lady" across the store at me and told me to "come here now". I asked what she wanted. she explained that they happened to find the product. I told her I had already found the product they didn't carry and I was no longer interested. I'm from out of town and had to go to Ulta to pick up some lashes and hair products. I was having a hard time so I went up to the worker Brianna and she was not welcoming at all. I asked her if they had any gels for hair and she just looked at me with a annoyed/confused face and said no then continued working on whatever she was doing. The rest of the time I was there it seemed like she had an eye on me. The rest of the workers were going around asking some customers if they needed help but not a single one came around to ask me. I was extremely nervous to have my eyebrows laminated!!! But when I went in Rachael made me feel so comfortable and that is so important!! Not only that but she was so kind and funny! She knew how I wanted my brows to be shaped before I even told her!!! And afterwards when I finally got the courage to let her do them they came out so amazing it was almost like a facelift for me!!! I loved this store. I would always go in and ALWAYS buy something. I even have the credit card. I recently went in and the associates were following me around the store which was so odd to me. One of the associates was talking on her walkie and said "Yeah she always comes in here and I always follow her around" as she came into the aisle I was in. The rest of the time I was in the store, that associate was nowhere to be seen. She realized she got caught. If they know I come in there "all the time" they should also know that I'm a paying customer. The other associates were being super rude to me as well. I am about to start volunteering as a princess for deaf events, and I'll be playing Elsa. The company I'm with requires a specific make up look for Elsa, and sent me the specifications. Sadly, I am not a make up guru by any means, so I went here and basically just showed them the email. Both Katy and Katie were AMAZING! They took their time hunting through tons of products to be sure I not only had the right items and colors, but also that I wasn't buying something overpriced that I would never use again. They even explained things I probably didnt need to buy based on what I already had at home. I was so impressed with their service and could not be happier with my products. I was extremely disappointed in how messy and unorganized this store looked. I was one of the very first customers in the store that day which means the employees did not do any stocking or cleaning before closing the night before. There were dirty tissues and cotton pads on shelves, the products were disorganized and barely stocked, the testers were unsanitary and strewn about, I will not be back.
