I went to Ultimate Escape Day Spa for the first time since I had a couple of gift certificates, and since they offer Botox, I decided to give it a try. I only wanted a simple lip flip and a little Botox for the "11" lines between my brows. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with my experience. Inness bruised my lip badly, which has never happened to me with a lip flip before. Looking back, I honestly should have walked out when I noticed she wasn't wearing gloves while doing the injections. That alone made me uncomfortable. Needless to say, this was a first and last experience for me and I will never refer anyone there. Never again. read more

I had an excellent pampering time!! I have looked at this business before when taking my friend for her birthday to a spa but the reviews were either not current or odd which made me think this place is not so great. It was the 100% opposite! I had no problem booking myself online. I saw Josh for scalp massage treatment and Courtney for a natural facial. It was outstanding!! I booked myself a 30min break in between so i wasn't rushed. I showered and waited in the special waiting room and enjoyed tea. I loved the scalp one with a brushing my hair and scented oil smelled so good. Josh was very nice and talked about the process, about 30minutes long. Courtney explained the facial products. She worked on my neck and upper chest area too. She was so nice. The space is so clean, pretty and organized. I loved looking at all the many options of items to buy around the front desk. I have been to many spas and they all seemed to be the same after a treatment they would price out all the items to ask me to buy them. Not here there was no list or pressure to do anything. While the new Leawood location is visually impressive, the overall service experience at Ultimate Escape has been deeply disappointing. I have spent over $400 on facials and lash lift services and have been consistently struck by the lack of professionalism displayed by both the estheticians and the front desk staff. I would strongly caution anyone with blonde lashes against booking a lash lift with Ann. The results were uneven, with lashes permed in multiple directions. During the service, she commented that I did not have many lashes, which I initially found odd. In hindsight, it appears the issue was not my lashes but her inability to properly see or work with them. A previous, extremely poor deep tissue massage at the former location kept me away for more than a decade. I returned with optimism due to the new facility, but that optimism was misplaced. After several hours wasted and significant out-of-pocket expense, it is clear that while Ultimate Escape is aesthetically pleasing, the service execution is substandard. The staff appeared disengaged and awkward, and there is a clear need for comprehensive customer service and technical training. I have been here three times for a deep tissue massage. All of the staff are very kind and helpful. The space is extremely clean and calming. I really enjoyed the infrared sauna before the deep tissue massage. They provide robes and wraps as well as flip flops if you need them. I plan on scheduling all of my future massages here in the future! read more

I came to Kansas City for 3 weeks for work. I didn't have time to get a manicure because I had literally just come back from another work trip and had a quick turnaround. I found this place online and thought it was really nice and elegant. I wanted to get a massage that day too but there was nothing available so I just did a gel manicure. Now as a man I get manis and pedis often and have been for well over a decade. First let me say the person that did my manicure, Emily, was sweet. So this nothing against her at all. However, the manicure did seem very quick and I don't feel like she really treated my cuticles like I'm used to. Also the gel polish that they use there is so cheap. I got my nails done on a Saturday and by Wednesday I had already noticed it was peeling. Normally my gel manicures can last for at least a month. So yeah needless to say even though this place is nice I will not be coming here again for a manicure when I am in town again. read more

I had a brow, lip, and chin wax along with nail polishing. I purposely did not wear makeup for this appointment but, after seeing the aesthetician I had the waxing with, wish I had. I personally think it is rude to make comments about someone having acne, dry skin, etc. at appointments like these. The appointment is supposed to be, in a way, relaxing, not make you feel self-conscious. Besides the comment making, she was not very friendly. She did a great job overall, though. I was then taken back to what I thought was a waiting area. I had a phone call and, as I was talking to the person, saw people coming in to the area wearing robes. I tried to be as quiet as I could; however, a front office rep came in and asked me to go to the front as they do not allow people to talk on cell phones in that area. There is not a sign that says this. The area is dimly lit, but I thought it was because this is a spa, as other areas are dimly lit as well. Finding a good day spa in Overland Park was my mission. I decided to give Ultimate Escape a try, and booked one of the packages they had available, specifically the "refresh renew". The package included a sauna session, 60 min massage, body scrub and facial. I was told to get there at 1215 and my appointment started at 1230. I arrived on time, was texted two forms to complete before i could go back. I thought these forms could have been sent to me ahead of time, to expedite the experience. After, I went back first to the massage room with Jenny. She was warm, and spoke with me a minute about the pressure i preferred. I told her medium-firm, which seemed understood during our conversation but at the time of massage she went too light and didn't concentrate on areas I would've preferred. In her defense I should've mentioned my preferences again but I find it tiresome, since I already had. Also, there were a lot of loud banging sounds just outside the room that i could hear during the service, and creaking sounds in the room I couldn't quite place. All in all, I wouldn't return to the day spa for this particular service. Next was sauna, infrared. This was nice. However when I laid down inside, I noticed a lot of dirty footprints on the wall, could use a good cleaning. After that I went to Ilona, for body scrub and facial. She was nice and seemed knowledgable about the services. The body scrub was not something that was scrubbed. Which is what I had imagined it would be. She coated me in the goo and bundled me up in a plastic wrap, told me it was to remain on me for 10 minutes. She was in the room with me as it soaked into my skin, maybe this was a chemical exfoliant of some type, but that wasn't explained to me. I thought this 10 minutes could've been utilized better, maybe providing facial or head massage, or starting the skin consultation process. After the soak, I was directed to the shower and told to rinse off the scrub. It did leave my skin feeling oily soft. The facial came after and she started with a gentle cleanser, all or most of her products were "image". She also did a gentle mask, extractions, serums and lip balm. I fell asleep during some of her service, very relaxing, the bed had a heating pad that makes that easy. I would return to Ilona for facial. I have sensitive skin, congestion and and redness. After the service, I noticed these things improved. I would have also liked to have been offered a drink other than water, I noticed a tea wall when i entered the spa. Ultimate escape day spa was above average overall, every employee I came into contact with was professional and kind. Just some smaller notes along the way. I would return to Ilona for facial services, but I would dodge the steep price-tag for the other services. read more

They tried to offset what happen to my nails with a $35 gift card to come back and get my nails done agin but I told them to keep it after such a big mess. I've been getting my nails done for years and I can truly say I have never been so uncomfortable in my life with a person doing my nails as i did with this one. It was clear lady had something against me. The attendant should've told me what she was putting my nails before they were destroyed. I got a massage, pedicure, facial/waxing, makeup lesson, and a snack. Defiantly the place to go if you want to take the time to just treat yourself. The massage was suppose to be deep tissue but for me wasn't at all but was still good. All the other extras made up for it as though we were a little late for are appointment they still worked with us. There's a dressing room we're you can change into a robe and just relax with in there waiting room nice comfy couch and tea/flavoured water. My hubby and I came here for the couple's day package. We loved it! The ambiance is very relaxing and quiet with soothing music. The UV sauna was so nice! I believe they just recently got this! Our massages were so good! I'm glad I opted for the 90 min massage! It was definitely worth it! My husband loved it so much, that he fell asleep and started snoring! Hilarious! Jenny was my masseuse and was awesome! Definitely book her if you can! The lunch was a standard lunch from Panera (sandwich and salad). For some reason we were stuck in the waiting area for almost an hour before we were taken to the UV sauna. Not sure why! All in all, we will definitely be back! Highly recommend! read more

I had an amazing experience - deep tissue massage with Kevin... Excellent and clearly much-practiced technique, Kevin was able to quickly identify problem areas and hone in on the same. Truly one of the better massages I've ever had. The waiting room has a wide selection of teas and a great heated neck pillow that makes you want to stay there forever, the cozy fireplace just adds to it all. Ultimate Escape Day Spa is a treasure in south Overland Park! I suffer with chronic pain daily and have tried every & all remedies provided by the medical community. When a friend suggested getting a massage at Ultimate Escape Day Spa I was eager for new options. The Masseuse who administered my massage immediately asked questions about my health and body and I could see he was truly interested. We agreed upon a traditional message with extra time on those areas causing the most trouble. I was amazed when my body began to relax and my breathing became calm and steady..and I still had 50 mins left!! The ambiance of the Spa is very soothing; and the décor is filled with rich earthy colors and themes, really well done - someone has GREAT taste! I just had to write a review and share with everyone. Don't let the storefront fool you!!! This was one of the most amazing spa's that I have been too! When you walk in the front door you are welcomed by a bunch of girlie goodies for sale that are well organized...bath salts, smell goods, and other spa goods. Once I checked in, I went straight to the locker room to change and put on a robe. Normal "upscale" locker room but nothing really special. Once I finished changing I was led to the sitting room. My eyes lit up....It was very, very nice. A red leather sectional, faux fire place..and more girlie goodies. The lighting was dimmed and the music playing was very soft and relaxing. It also has a pleasant smell and water and tea was available. You also get a heated aromatherapy neck pillow which added a nice touch. I had the September Special which included 30 minutes in the Sauna Capsule (which I loved), a 90 minute "Swe-Deep" massage with aromatherapy and a Hot Stone Boost and a 6 minute sinus treatment. For $125 this was an excellent deal. My massage therapist was Tara and she was amazing. She was very friendly and whispered every time she talked to me to ask about the pressure or the heat of the stones. She knew what areas needed the most work and focused on them. She provided the ultimate in relaxation. Everyone else that I came in contact with greeted me warmly and made sure that I was comfortable. All in all this is a wonderful Spa and I will return. Though the prices are already reasonable I would always recommend that you find out what the special is for the month. I can't wait to go back. read more

Had my second visit here yesterday and once again impressed. Like the other review noted, don't be turned off by the strip mall appearance. It's very zen and serene once you're in the door. After changing into a robe, you head into a soothing candlelit sitting room. Here, you encounter other spa goers in various stages of bliss, sipping water while heated neck wraps relax their shoulders before heading off for their spa treatment. The rooms are themed, and all the extra little details they put into the design (from the decorations to the music and lighting) add to the overall experience. I had a Swedish massage and facial this time. My masseuse had good technique, was very professional, and the whole experience was wonderfully relaxing. My only minor complaint was the room temp, which was a tad cool. It was 10 degrees and snowy out, and this particular room was at the front of the spa, with a full wall of windows. She turned up the heat on the table and while it was warm, it wasn't super cozy toasty as one might be expecting. The facial was soothing and my skin felt amazing afterwards. The aesthetician was polite and had very gentle technique for those awful extractions (the worst part of any facial, but a necessary evil). I was a bit surprised she didn't ask more questions regarding my skin, (other aestheticians I've had get a detailed skin history it seems) but I can't complain about the results. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the overall spa experience you will have. I will be back for a couples massage next month and can hardly wait! read more

This salon is not the largest in town, but they definitely make up for it in heart. The inside is obviously put together with care, meant to ensure the relaxation and comfort of its patrons. The staff goes out of their way to be calming, relaxing, pleasant and hospitable. As mentioned in other reviews, it is inexpensive compared to comparable salons in town. I had a swedish massage, the ultimate pedi, and the nautral facial. You are greeted and led back to a small changing room. You're given an oversized robe and sandals. After you change, you are led into the lounge. The lighting is dim and the music is calming. There are a variety of teas and cold water, lotions to try and magazines to read. Hunter did my pedi. He was very nice, and skillful. He did a great job on my feet, which were definitely worse for the wear after 3.5 months and a baby since my last pedi. Anna did my facial. She was wonderful and made me feel really comfortable. She was not judgmental about my lack of a real skincare regimen. My massage was not the best I've ever had; I felt like the massage therapist spent a LOT of time preparing things and oiling her hands, and not enough time actually performing the massage. It was a full body massage, but too much time was spent on my back. My neck was hardly touched, and the foot and hand massages were sloppy. This would be a nice place to go if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg but want a good experience. read more

Unwelcome to a nursing mom. I scheduled some time to enjoy the spa with my mom, who lives out of town, last week. A big driver for me selecting this spa was the "relaxation room" so we could have a bit of time together between services. Since I had childcare scheduled for the special day, I needed to pump prior to my appointment. I got set up and settled in the room with my mom. Several minutes later, I was asked if I would like a private space and I said, thanks but no, I was comfortable with my mom and would cover up more if anyone else came in. A few minutes after that, the woman came back in, and politely told me that I needed to go to a private space as other customers were coming in. I wanted my mom to have a nice experience, so I didn't argue, but I was embarrassed at being essentially kicked-out, and physically uncomfortable while I pumped in a stall in the locker room. Any pumping mom knows you are more comfortable in a lower chair, where you can lean forward, not a higher stool where you are awkwardly perched, and most pumps even require a plug (luckily mine has battery). I have pumped in plenty of places before- even in an airplane seat next to a male stranger. Since I use a cover and my pump is whisper quiet, I've never picked up on the slightest bit of discomfort from those in my area, many even make conversation about parenting with me as I pump. Based on my conversations with other nursing moms, I'm not alone in finding ways to pump in public discreetly, so that you don't have to miss out on life. So I was just completely struck when I was asked to leave the room rather than just being offered to cover. The only reason I wasn't using one when I started is because my skirt was pulled up to my bra line, my shirt downward, and my mom and I were literally the only people in a dim and private room, so you couldn't see anything anyway. The woman was polite, but it was clear they weren't very informed on the topic of pumping mamas. I wondered if I was being oversensitive, but when I shared my experience with my pretty traditional husband later, his jaw dropped. He couldn't believe that a room full of people wearing robes wouldn't be welcoming to me. I expected more from a day spa, and although I get a massage every single month (breastfeeding mamas have back pain), I won't be returning. I would advise them to figure out a "pumping protocol", and actually ask nursing mothers what works for them. They seemed uncomfortable and uninformed, which made me feel unwelcome and really ruined any relaxation effect my services could have bought. The only reason I am giving them any stars is because my mom had a great time (I didn't share my experience with her), and that was really the most important thing to me. read more

With that said, I had the ultimate pedicure and it was hands down the best pedicure of my life. Hunter was awesome. He took his time and there were so many oils, lotions, scrubs used on my feet that by the end my skin was softer than it has been in years. Absolutely wonderful. I am a first time customer at Ultimate Escape Day Spa and the customer service was amazing. When I walked in, I was greeted by warm smiles and friendly hellos from the receptionists. Every need of mine was taken care. I even received a warm neck pillow and tea while I waited for my esthetician. My esthetician who did my chemical peel was incredibly kind, let me know what products she used at every step, and warned me where I might experience skin sensitivity. My daughter and I try to come here for spa services once a month. From the minute we walk in, we are greeted at the reception desk and immediately taken back to a relaxation room with flavored water and heated neck pillows. Services we have had are target massage, reflexology, facials. Everything was excellent and the spa providers were very nice and friendly.
