Had a wonderful day at the Spa On Penn while visiting Kansas City from Colorado. I thoroughly enjoyed the Original Package that my lovely boyfriend gifted me. I loved the steam shower and my massage with Kelly was excellent. Julia did a great job on my first ever Refresher facial, my skin felt amazing afterwards, she also did a thorough job on my extractions. Lastly I loved getting my mani/pedi done with GiGi. She was my favorite person of the day, extremely nice and pleasant to be around. I thought she did a very nice job and took her time. My nails looked beautiful! We booked a couples massage with Spa on Penn and from start to finish, everything was amazing! I love the location and inside of the building is very tranquil and clean. The receptionist up front was great and got us set up with some tea while we filled out our paperwork. We both requested deep pressure and the massage therapists did amazing on delivering. My boyfriend is a tattoo artist, so his back and wrists bother him consistently. When we were finished with our massage, he had full range of motion in his back without feeling like he was ran over by a semi! I wish I grabbed the names of the folks that massaged us that day because they were fantastic! Will definitely be returning soon for some of their steam shower services! Thank you, guys! read more

First of all, i did not get the spa experience. When I think of spa, I think of robes, relaxation, quiet room, tea, etc. This place was just a massage place. Nothing more, nothing less. Second, the amount of noise outside your massage room is insane. I couldn't even relax cuz of all the people talking outside my room. Phone calls, the employees chatting, it was not the best experience. And last, this was probably the worst massage I've ever received. At one point, I almost walked out of the room. I don't know what kind of therapist this was, but he wasn't good at all. I left hurting more than when I came in. I told the receptionist and she said he's an experienced therapist. ‍ she tried to let me know to schedule with someone else but with this first experience, I won't be going back. I rather drive to Leawood and actually get the spa experience at Woodhouse Spa. I guess this is what I get for trying to find something closer to me. I recently called Spa on Penn with high expectations for a relaxing massage experience. However, my encounter with the staff left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. Upon trying to schedule a massage, I was taken aback when they requested my credit card information upfront, even before confirming the appointment. This practice felt intrusive and somewhat unprofessional, but I decided to proceed, hoping the massage would make up for it. Things took a turn for the worse when I mentioned I had a Groupon. Instead of the expected courtesy and assistance, the staff became noticeably rude and unaccommodating. It seemed as though the mention of a Groupon had triggered a negative response, and they began to limit my options for available time slots. It's disheartening when businesses offer promotions like Groupon deals but fail to uphold the same level of service and courtesy to those utilizing them. I felt as though I was being penalized for trying to take advantage of an offer they had advertised. I believe that if a business is going to promote deals or discounts, they should treat all guests, regardless of their chosen method of payment, with the same respect and consideration. I hope that Spa on Penn takes this feedback into account and works towards creating a more welcoming and accommodating environment for all their guests, regardless of how they choose to pay for their services. I requested a relaxing massage that would focus on my neck pain. As I carry a very heavy baby and car seat all the time. My shoulder was not massaged even once. What did get massages was my throat, yes my throat. Hard thumb pressure which could have great on my traps, shoulders, back, anywhere else. I did get him grab under my shoulder blade with all of his strength and hold for a couple minutes. How would I know it was all of his strength? Well, he was shaking. Thanks Chaz I cannot turn my neck and it's only been 4 post massage. When we get back home I'll take a muscle relaxer and get another massage. Fingers crossed! Kelly used baby hands and accidentally touched my husbands weiner. That's confusing and hilarious. I guess they both got more than the bargained for. This was $230 wasted. I highly recommend avoiding this spot and the $230 will cost be $400 by the time I see my doctor and another massage for the pain I'm now in. You guys could add a small side table for people to put their clothing on instead of a pile on the floor. Also, why did you take us from the lobby to a secondary waiting room? Still joking about it. Just like others, I booked a massage for my wife with high expectations because of what had been shared about the spa. However, also like others, we found the experience was such a let down in terms of the level of service that we definitively won't be back. I booked my wife a massage to decompress and destress. The massage itself was fine, but the service overall, left much to be desired and clearly didn't demonstrate care for customer experience. In fact, there seems to be a disregard for creating an environment in which customers can relax or enjoy the experience, despite having some of the highest prices in the city. Halfway through the massage another therapist was preparing or cleaning the room next door while having a loud and prolonged cell phone conversation. After a significant period of time in which the call did not end, my wife asked the therapist to see if the other therapist wouldn't mind being more quiet, and the conversation ended. Then, a leaf blower started clearing the wall on the other side of the massage room, which was extremely loud and sounded as if they were within the room; this too lasted for a significant period of the massage. Finally, when the massage was over, she went to check out. She waited several minutes before walking through the rooms to locate someone. No one was to be found, and still no one had returned to the desk. Finally, she had to interrupt a pedicure appointment. The pedicurist had to leave her in-progress appointment to check her out. She sent her feedback directly to the spa after an email requesting she provide it. We believe in allowing businesses to correct or speak to experiences that are outliers, having both spent much of our lives in the customer service industry. However, we received no response, which is just demonstrative of a business that has no care for its clients. This clearly is a place that doesn't care to create a relaxing, positive, customer-friendly experience. For a place that claims to be a day spa, far more care could be taken with environment and experience. Book somewhere else. read more

Friendly, helpful, welcoming, and all masters of their craft. The menu of services is quite impressive and, coming from LA, I think the prices are quite reasonable. Went with a friend for a steam shower, massage, and a facial and didn't have a great experience. With the way they scheduled us at one point we had to wait an hour between services which did not make sense. The massage was really disappointing, not relaxing, and not worth the money. On top of that, the guy at the front desk was extremely rude to my friend and myself with just comments in general and overall a bad attitude. The one (or two) bright stars in the experience were the facials with Stacey Gonzales and Hunter Wilhelm. Their service was amazing and my skin has never looked better. If it wasn't for those two I would have been seriously upset. Thanks to you both for turning our day around. Honestly could not be more impressed with the two of you. Friend and I went for a massage here on Sunday. I'm pretty certain all of their masseuses are magical. Truly. We booked hour long restorative massages to use expired Groupons. We had no problem booking and using them. We were asked to fill out some forms and then led downstairs, where we were shown the rain shower room, the dry sauna and the locker room. After we had changed into fluffy spa robes, we went into a waiting room where we were greeted after about 30 seconds. My masseuse, Rebecka, asked me some questions, had me get on the table and began to do an amazing job relaxing me and loosening rock hard knots. The massage was personalized and wonderful. Five star staff, five star location, five star massages, and five star slice of relaxation. Alright, I'll confess I don't exactly have a lot of "spa" experience. In fact, it wasn't until a Yelp event here that I think I'd ever spent any time in a spa. The Spa On Penn is a serious gem in the heart of Westport. The whole ambiance here is so relaxing that you start to unwind the second you walk in. They offer tons of services (facials, mani/pedi, salon services, but the one that jumps out to me is the massage service). I don't usually get massages, but after a stressful couple of weeks, frequent running and the soreness that comes along with it, plus constantly seeing "Benefits of Massages" articles everywhere, I got the hint that it's time for me to go in. Hashtag Treat Yo Self. I got an hour and a half massage with Kelly and it was the best massage I've ever had. You can kind of make the dimly lit downstairs space your own as you get ready, and then you enter in to the relaxation chamber. The bed is warmed, and they'll adjust it so it fits you perfectly. From there, it's one of those rare moments as an adult when you literally have no responsibilities for the next hour and a half except to R-E-L-A-X. It was awesome, and I felt like a million bucks afterwards. In fact, I got the best night of sleep in many months afterwards and still feel great from it. This will definitely be a regular fixture every few months, and I can safely recommend the professional, friendly crew at Spa On Penn a million times over. read more

Want to feel like royalty for the day? Then book a reservation here. This place invented the phrase "excellent customer service" and probably "relaxation" as well. I was treated to a couples massage, as a birthday gift, and it was fantastic (make sure you check in here). They offer you tea, coffee or filtered water and take you downstairs to the basement. They show you to the male and female locker rooms, where you pick up your sanitized sandals and warm robe courtesy of the Spa. You make your way into the waiting room with other people who have on their robes and sandals (magazines in here to keep you entertained and water to stay hydrated). Finally, the message therapists come and greet you and take you back to a nice, quiet, dimly lit room with relaxing music playing. They get to know your preference of massage and what areas need working and then they stop talking to you after that, which is great. I'm not trying to have a conversation while I'm relaxing. Once the massage is over, you're able to use their sauna room or their shower (it's a rain down shower head, which feels nice). You have to make reservations to use their steam room, though. This place is located in Westport, next to Ca Va, and the best place to park is on the street, but if you can't find parking there then go past the stop sign on 42nd and Pennsylvania, next to that corner building where there is a "for sale" sign and park in that lot. Just make sure you put your car information down on the papers at Spa on Penn, so you don't get towed. read more

This place has really gone downhill in quality and service. Most recently I walked in and the guy behind the counter was visibly frustrated he had to check me in. He asked my name, grabbed a clipboard and just took off - guess I'm supposed to follow! I looked at my forms and saw that they switched my massage therapist without telling me, I just happened to catch it on the form. When I asked they were short and rude and told me they called this morning. Which they did not. They asked if I wanted to reschedule and when I said no, they said "great bye." My sister in law called to book us for a nail appointment, her a mani me a pedi. Apparently, we can't get them done at the same time since they only have one tech. Ok, no biggie-we were just going to hang out with each other while one was getting worked on. She booked TWO spots. Day before, she gets a call to confirm the appointments. She missed it but called back within 20 min...somehow they only booked one appointment. They were extremely unapologetic-in fact, they said if I wanted to book an appt-I could get a facial. Uhhhh what? I don't need a facial, I need my toes done. Also, a facial is a good $20+ MORE expensive than the service I wanted. That makes zero sense to even offer that as a solution. My SIL rarely gets her nails done-hence why she wanted to do appts at the same time, I could help her out since I get mine done often. She has a wedding tomorrow so she got them done the day before. She couldn't cancel and reschedule. She already has multiple nails messed up-I asked how long they had her sit for since it was a basic mani not gel...she left under 10 min after they finished. I've been carrying around this Spafinder giftcard for a year now and decided to use it here. Besides, I wanted to check this place out too! The ambiance is perfect as soon as you walk in. Calm and relaxing. The staff at the front desk were polite and very professional. Renee took care of my mani today. I'm not much of a spa girl so, $38 could be reasonable for a dry manicure. Renee did an amazing job. My nails look amazing! They're cute :) Tip: When it came to pay for my services, I was informed Spafinder basically wants you to use your entire gift card regardless of the costs of your services. So, in my case i would have paid $50 for a $38 service. Obviously I wasn't happy hearing this. They recommend I add another service or buy one of their products. I ended up finding a butter that wasn't too overpriced so, I grabbed that. Although it wasn't their policy, they apologized for the inconvenience and were really nice about everything. Hopefully I can come back in the near future for a massage. read more

I finally got to come and use one of my groupons that was expiring. I also have another groupon I can't wait to use next month. Anyways, up on walking in this spa is very clean and relaxing. Everything was very nice from the moment I called to make my last minute appointment to the moment I left. I needed a pedicure really bad on a Sunday and I had a spa wish gift card to use, I decided to check this place out. I loved it! I can't wait to come back. Now I haven't been to many spa's but I've had many great pedicures because I work in a spa. This spa was excellent and my nail tech Shelisha did awesome! My nails are shaped well, my callous' are smoothed, and she gave an exceptional massage. Being a nail tech myself I'm very picky about cleanliness during a nail service and she cleaned everything right in front of me. If you're looking for a new spot for your mani, pedi's here's the place to go! The prices are awesome too! read more

We took our hotels recommendation and booked a couples massage at this spa. They told us it was a top notch spa with glowing reviews. Boy were they wrong. We received an email beforehand asking that we come 15 min early to enjoy a cup of tea, relax and fill out forms. When we arrived we were led to a dark basement that had no tea or amenities. We were then escorted to a room and this is where things just fell apart. The first 5 min of the massage seemed ok but then I started to hear a sports center channel. I realized my therapist had headphones in and was listening to a game. I then realized he decided to give up on the massage and just put all his body weight on my back and not move for minutes at a time. No exaggeration, he would just hold his weight on my back for 5 min. Meanwhile, my friend who's lying next to me is getting massaged by a lady with a cold who kept sneezing and snorting the entire time. She also forgot to massage one of her legs. By this point my anxiety started to rise bc I was so uncomfortable. Just when I didn't think things could get worse the therapist started burping. Finally the massage ended and we went to the front desk to let the manager know what happened. He said he would give me a 15% discount for my complaints. He offered no apology. read more

Came here in August with my mom to celebrate her birthday. We got massages and facials, and when it was time to pay, the receptionist asked if I wanted to add a tip while running my card. I told her to add 20%, which in hindsight was VERY generous for the services we received. When I got home I checked my receipt and noticed that the amount under 'tip' calculated out to 25% - whoa. It's not like this was a $2 difference either - my services totaled over $300 (25% of that is a $75 tip). I was actually shocked and it makes me wonder how many other clients have been overcharged because the receipt only states a dollar amount and not a percentage. I called the spa and spoke with Lisa and she told me they would refund my card for the difference. I asked her twice if she needed my card number and she told me no. I never heard anything after that, even though she has my name and phone number. More than a month later and I have yet to see the refund hit my card. I won't be going back to this spa knowing that they don't follow ethical business practices. read more

I booked a sauna session and a massage. I was told on the phone I would be able to shower after the massage. Instead I was expected to go straight from the sauna onto the massage table. I insisted on showering (the point of the sauna is to sweat) beforehand so time was cut off the massage and my hair was wet. I was still charged full price. This isn't acceptable. read more

My goodness! What a piece of heaven! Found this Spa on yelp after being in the desperate need of some "personal care time" and a warm soothing bath. So I called in and was able to get an appointment the same day which is outstanding. I made an appointment for just a hydro-bath because I didn't have time for anything else. When I arrived the spa atmosphere was gorgeous. Local paintings line the wall and the environment is luxurious but also serene. I was taken down right away to the womens changing room- a small but complete with everything room. There I was given a robe and comfy shoes and waited just a couple minutes in this downstairs waiting area. I was then broguht to the hydro bath room which is even more lovely than the pictures. I stayed her for 30 minutes. Honestly, 30 minutes is more than enough time. The water is pretty warm and the heat creates almost like a sauna like effect rather than just a plain bubble bath. In the future I would totally be interested in getting a package like most people do. However, overall I had the most lovely time. I left feeling renewed and fresh. Thank you Spa on Penn! read more

This establishment is amazing, I came here for relaxation and to become stress free, and they definitely did the job! Off of Groupon I was able to get the "a little bit of everything package" which is pretty pricey but worth every penny. Right when I arrived at the spa I was worried about parking but they had a parking lot specifically for their costumers so that eased my mind immediately. Checking in was great, fast and easy and they offer chilled water or hot tea upon your arrival. Very relaxing music throughout the entire stay that makes you want to close your eyes and relax. Their dressing room is very clean and they provide all customers with a hair brush, hair dryer, lotion, honestly anything you would need while you're there! They also provide lockers and keys to put your belongings in, and they have you change into a robe and slippers which made me feel luxurious. I did the steam shower which was a great way to begin my package (they also have a hydro bath). They had music you could play within the shower, and an awesome rain shower that I wish I could have in my apartment! After the shower I went to the waiting room and relaxed. Very cozy and it's dim so you can close your eyes and enjoy yourself. They have water that you can drink as you wait too. My massage got pushed back a bit but that was totally fine. once I got my massage I was in pure bliss. 30 minute massage top back, shoulders, and neck. She had magic hands and it felt so much longer than 30 minutes I was so happy! I got a facial afterwards and she complimented how well I took care of my skin which made me happy. Everything she put on my face smelt really good and was very relaxing. Lastly, I was able to get a pedicure and my nails look great! Right as you walk into Spa on Penn you feel immediately relaxed. The atmosphere is so calming and peaceful that it isn't too hard to get into the right headspace. I came here for the first time on Saturday for a couples massage. My boyfriend and I were celebrating an anniversary and had been having a few particularly stressful weeks and needed something to decompress. The massage was so worth it. I had John, and you're in the same room as your significant other, and their masseuse. John was very deliberate about making sure you were comfortable the whole time and were not in any pain. No conversation takes place unless you want it to, but I could tell that both massage therapists knew we wanted silence, which they definitely respected. The only thing I would mention is that the masseuse with my boyfriend massaged his face with the oils, and it did case his face to break out slightly that same day. So if you have sensitive skin I would let them know you want your face to be avoided. You're given access to their dry sauna (wet sauna available for an extra cost--I think they said $30 or so) and rain shower (very spacious!) afterward which has available soap, shampoo and conditioner. They even provide hairnets if you don't want to get your hair wet, but want to wash off the massage oils. In the women's changing area they have lots of little bathroom things for you to use such as q-tips, a hair dryer, lotion, and sanitized combs which is nice. It was $175 for the couples massage, and you leave a tip, so while it's a little pricey, their price is competitive with other spas in the area. I slept wonderfully that night, and woke up feeling so refreshed. I am not sore in the places I normally am, and I credit that to the wonderful services at Spa on Penn. Definitely planning on coming back here in the future! read more

My husband and I came for the couples VIP package and it was AWESOME! This package ($499) included any facial treatment (we each got the Epicuren vegan facial), couples massage (60 min), pedicure, hydrotherapy treatment, steam and sauna, and complementary champagne. We started our day with the dry sauna followed by the steam shower. All the services are private and you move from service to service with your date. After the steam shower we waited in the "relaxation room" for our Masseurs (Terese and a man). Terese was AMAZING and my husband claims this is the best massage of his life! He has back issues and he swears she made a significant impact to his lower back. With how much pressure she applied he commented he was surprised she could continue massaging for the rest of the day lol. Anyway my massage was just okay and I would request Terese if I return. After the massage we had our hydrotherapy treatment - essentially time alone in a whirlpool tub. The water had salts and essential oils - totally awesome. After 30 min in the tub we dried off and waiting in the relaxation center for our facials. The facials were totally on point and both our aestheticians were extremely knowledgable, professional and well trained. Finally we finished with pedicures and champagne. They did a great job - my husbands 1st pedi - and they were personable and friendly. The entire spa was extremely clean and well maintained. The decor was soothing and tastefully done. I am sure we'll be back and the VIP package was a great deal. If you check in on FB you'll get $5.00 off - hey it all adds up! A few nit picky things - during the massage (which takes place in the basement) loud distracting footsteps were annoying overhead. My masseur didn't ask about the pressure (I suppose I should have spoken up more) and made a comment when I left that my shoulders (which he barely touched) had a lot of tension - ?? That's why I came to him.. Despite these things we will be back - super fun day - totally a 5 star experience. read more
