Fantastic experience Megan was our guide and our captain was also excellent. They were so friendly . The boat held about 25 people . They had actual seats . It was a super pleasant experience and we saw a ton of whales. They were knowledgeable we got to listen to the whales they stuck a mic under water. So much fun ! We did the two hour tour at 7:10 am we also got a great sunrise view. Highly recommend this company ! Would definitely come back! They exceeded my expectations ! Amazing experience !

    12 person boat was great!

This is our one third whale watching tour in Maui with Ultimate Whale watching and we always have an amazing time. Joel and Meagan were our guides and they were amazing. Megan was very informative about the humpback whales and they found whales right away ! Always a great time! We were on a 12 person raft style boat and I loved being on a smaller boat as it moves fast when needed to catch a whale in action!

Absolutely Incredible Excursion--Whales, Dolphins, and Snorkeling! We had an absolutely incredible time on this whale and snorkel excursion! The departure location at Mala Ramp in Lahaina was incredibly easy to find. From start to finish, the staff was both friendly and highly knowledgeable. The boat itself was very comfortable, and because they limit the tour's capacity, the experience never felt crowded and was thoroughly enjoyable. The wildlife we saw was unforgettable--we lucked out and spotted bottlenose dolphins, spinner dolphins, and even a mother and baby humpback whale! We also got to snorkel at two absolutely beautiful stops. They kept us well-fed throughout the day, providing a nice continental breakfast, lunch, and a snack at the end, along with plenty of soda and water. The only downside--which was completely unavoidable--was that crossing the channel on the way back from Lanai to Maui was very choppy. If you have any neck or back issues, I would not suggest this excursion. But if that's not a concern for you, this is an awesome excursion and we thoroughly enjoyed our day trip!

Once is not enough! Book several whale watches on your vacation, because each will be DIFFERENT. You'll thank me later. Jill, the captain, and Lily, the naturalist, worked closely together to give us a great experience and to explain what we were seeing. Each whale watch will be a different experience for you. You'll see.

Another amazing trip! I love this whale watch company. The crew are spectacular and I love the small group experience option. This vessel only allows 6 guests on a rather large boat so you can easily move around for the best viewing and photography!

"We went out with Ultimate Whale Watch on Christmas Day and it was easily the best experience we've had. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable--we learned so much about the whales while watching them in action. It was a wonderful, high-quality day on the water. Highly recommended for anyone in Maui!"

Wonderful experience. Very experienced guides. I was nervous to book as Its online. My mom has medical issues and this is our trip before a long road of treatment. I had concerns the boat would be hitting hard waves and she would be uncomfortable. THIS TRIP WAS FANTASTIC! No bumpyness boat was very smooth for being smaller. Captain made the ride pleasant. We all remained seated. We saw alot of whales learned about them and they put a microphone in the water so we heard them too. Thanks ladies for this great experience for us. A+++++

The Captain told me... " he didn't do it intentionally" and scolded me! Never asked if I was I okay.

I've lived on Maui for nearly 10 years, and this was one of the most uncomfortable tours I've experienced here. The captain, Lacey, was rude, dismissive, and completely lacking in aloha. The three of us onboard were repeatedly talked down to and contradicted. When another passenger stepped on my foot and I reacted, instead of basic courtesy, the captain immediately defended him and dismissed my experience. The atmosphere was chaotic, yet instead of managing the boat professionally, Captain Lacey seemed far more focused on catering to tourists while treating locals with obvious irritation. When we commented on seeing a whale in a different direction, she snapped back that she "knew where the whales were" and essentially told us not to speak. Whale watching should be welcoming, respectful, and educational. This experience was none of those. Captain Lacey's conduct was far from appropriate for someone responsible for passengers and representing Maui. I would not recommend this company.

From the moment we were waiting to get on the boat, I could tell this was going to be a wonderful experience. Every employee was so friendly, genuinely happy and kind. Our crew was very knowledgeable and I learned quite a bit about whales. We had an outstanding time, being able to witness several male whales in pursuit of a female. They put on an unbelievable show for us! Stellar. I would not want to book with any other company. Thank you for an epic experience!

Friendly boat crew with plenty of incites on the humpback whales. Plenty of whales to see, a bunch of babies up close. Now if they would cooperate on the breaching to allow for great pictures, but alas the whales are unpredictable. Great time and highly recommended

Absolutely incredible experience! Lacey and Reese did an excellent job getting us on dozens of whales during our two hour trip. The amount of knowledge, experience, and professionalism was far beyond what I expected. My wife and I and two daughters shared an experience of a lifetime. Awesome job!!!

The best whale watching tour I've ever been on! Chad & Cass were so knowledgeable and passionate about the whales of Maui and were so informative about what was going on. We got amazing, up-close views of whale activity for the entire tour. Although the water was a bit choppy, they made sure everyone who was feeling sea sick felt comfortable. I wish I could go out with them again! Thank you Chad & Cass!!

This buddy came right up to our boat!

Ask the Community - Ultimate Whale Watch & Snorkel

Is it safe for me to bring my 16 month old baby with me to the whale watching tour?

Aloha! Our age minimum is 3 years old for whale watching tours and 4 years old for snorkeling, this is for the safety and comfort of your child. mahalo!

Me and my wife are non-swimmers. Is there a snorkeling option ( preferably morning)?

My wife is also a non swimmer and had no problem with this tour. It's a small group and were very attentive. They have flotation devices which make it easy for non swimmers.

    Any restrictions on pregnant ladies?

Aloha! Yes due to the style of rafting vessel, this tour is not recommend for guests that are pregnant or have back or neck injuries, hope to have you out with us another…

Can kids go on this trip?

Yes. The trip we went on has four kids.

How many people are in a boat?

If you check their web site those details are on the trip descriptions. I believe they limit numbers on some trips.

For us, we prefer the Sunset Cocktail cruise as it's the perfect amount of food and drinks. This last trip, we took the whole family for the express snorkel trip. It's a shorter trip, which worked perfectly for the younger kids and didn't tie up a big amount of island time. Captain Nick and his crew was all about making sure all had a great time while keeping safety at the top of mind. They guaranteed we'd see turtles... we did! Immediately. I accused them of being remote controlled because they were there right on cue! I'm not a big snorkel guy, but I had a blast. We'll keep returning to Sea Maui. Greatest crew on Maui !!

On our vacation to Maui last week, we took trips out to the sea with Sea Maui twice. Our first trip…read moreout was an adults-only family excursion while the kids hung out with their grandma and auntie. The catamaran was pretty sweet, with some really comfy bean bags overlooking the edge out to the ocean. While we did occasionally get splashed in this area, it was worth the unobstructed view of the sunset and the breeze in my hair. The crew was especially sweet and treated all of us like absolute royalty. A note to those who are prone to motion sickness: do not try to be brave and only wear sea bands thinking you'll be okay. Take your Dramamine an hour before you board the catamaran. While the first half of our dinner cruise was fine with my motion sickness, the second half of the trip left me feeling really queasy around dinner service time. This made me very sad. This was no fault of the crew, and 100% my fault for thinking I could tough it out. If you are ill-prepared, the crew has ginger ale, club soda and ginger chews to help. Speaking of dinner, the few bites I was able to eat on our first trip were fantastic: a full dinner buffet prepared by Cafe Jai. The salmon was perfectly tender, as was the short rib. The caesar salad was just the right amount of tangy (and the extra dressing was really great on the salmon as well.) I'm not sure what kind of sauce was on the crispy seasoned potatoes but they were absolutely delightful. And of course, the crown on top of a delicious meal was the mini brownie cup we were served for dessert before we wrapped up the trip. Our second trip (where I was prepared with some Dramamine) was a memorial for our grandparents, where we released their cremains at sea with eco-urns. I must say that the crew handled everything wonderfully. We had the full bar, another beautiful buffet spread including some delicious crispy chicken, a pesto pasta salad, pulled beef sliders, and rolls. After we said our emotional goodbyes, we were given rose petals to release into the ocean. We even received certificates after the trip that gave us the coordinates of where my grandparents cremains were released. I seriously cannot thank Sea Maui enough for giving my family a truly memorable experience on our trip to Maui. They made our trip so special. A million thanks for the kindness!

Surely, we were surrounded by whales. I went on the 6:45am 2 hour Eco Raft tour. One boat tour holds around 12 persons. The temperature in Maui in February was fantastic, about 65F at night, and 75F at peak of day. It was great value, costing about $111 for the 2 hour tour. Keep in mind, you need to show up 30 minutes before the actual time to fill out waivers, etc. Many whales were a few feet away. There were so many whales! We must have seen 50+ individuals. See my video of baby whale breaching. I didn't capture alot of photos, because I would rather see it with my own eyes. Tip for those traveling in February: it's a peak travel season for Maui, so book your rental cars well in advance 10-12 months ahead. If you book 5-6 months ahead, you won't get any. You may try rental car with Turo, or have to rent E-bike, bike or take Lyft, Uber, etc. Clothing suggestions: depends on the time of day you go. For early mornings, you may wear shorts or long pants, something warm like sweatshirt or I did Patagonia fleece with lightweight Outdoor Research rainjacket on top. Shoes come off, so you will be barefoot on the boat and you will get the shoes back afterwards, so that won't matter. It's kind of windy, so hold on to or get a hat with a string that goes around your neck. Bring sunglasses, and put on sunblock while you're signing the waivers. You will not regret it if you come during whale season!
