We stayed at The Ivy over the Fourth of July and had a very good experience overall. The gentleman who greeted us on arrival set the tone right away. He was engaging, charismatic, and clearly knew the property and its history inside and out. That kind of welcome makes a difference. We were in Suite 18, which sits in a separate tower connected to the spa. The room itself was well appointed. You can tell nothing in there was inexpensive, and everything was fresh and well maintained, no wear, no chipped paint, nothing neglected. If I'm being honest, some of styling is starting to feel a touch dated in places, but that's a matter of taste more than quality. One note, and to be totally fair it was an unbelievably hot day: when we returned from dinner the room was in the mid to high 70s, and it took about an hour and a half to cool down. The staff explained we needed to lower the thermostat in 2-degree increments rather than setting it straight to our target, and they were right, it worked. Still, that's a bit of a workaround at this price point. A lovely property with genuinely gracious service. We'd stay again. read more

I had the absolute best experience at The Ivy Hotel. From the moment I arrived on Thursday until checking out today, everyone was so thoughtful and attentive. I wanted to celebrate my birthday in style. This was exactly what I needed. I had the Uncle Nearest Foot Ritual in the Spa. It was amazing! Tea in the afternoon was perfect. It was difficult to choose which one to have. All sounded great. I appreciated that they were either from a Black owned or local company. The art everywhere is amazing, down to the frames and mats. All are museum quality. I had room service as well as meals at Magdalena but I'll review them separately. ‍ My room was amazing! The four poster bed was so divine. I slept quite comfortably. The soaking tub was deep enough to swim in. The spa gifted me with a bath bomb which made for a truly relaxing soak session. I will most definitely be returning. read more

Baltimore is a hard city to drive into. This past summer, I celebrated my husband's birthday with alfresco dining in the ivy-walled courtyard at the Ivy Hotel. I'm back again today, a Sunday when the restaurant is typically closed, to indulge in the elegance of Afternoon Tea. Our tea expert, Emma, provided detailed information about selecting loose teas and savory bites. We amplified our Tea experience with a bottle of Rose. Thank you, Emma, for the excellent attention to detail. Typically, only hotel guests can access the beautiful rooms inside the historic mansion. Our group of four was treated to a tour of all the main rooms and an unoccupied guest room. All I can say is, Wow! I would like the hotel management to know that it is completely illegal to block city residents 2 hour spots with red cones. Tonight 9/16 I had such a bad back and forth with their parking guy (he is tall black man), who threatened me that I cannot park and if I did I'll have consequences. I confronted him saying he cannot block city resident parking, which I pay for. We have limited spots in the city to begin with. The hotel cannot advertise valet parking and then take city parking and additional use cones and then tell someone who lives here that it's for the property and property can use red cones to block parking like this. I filed a report to 311 and I will not sit quiet if they won't stop this. I also frequently come to Magdalena for dinner and drinks and it's very disappointing to see the neighborhood hotel use such practices. read more

I visited the spa for a second time today. The space is visually pleasing and very clean. The staff has been exceptionally professional and knowledgeable at both of my visits. I have had full body, deep tissue massages done by Abigail and Amira. I can't say enough about how comfortable I felt during my service with both of them. Our daughter was married at this hotel this past weekend and the whole thing couldn't have gone more smoothly. From the venue itself, the staff, the food, everything was set up to make this as easy for us as possible. We arrived at noon, knowing we were way early for checkin, and the valet just took our name, unloaded our car, and welcomed us, and put us into the elevator. When it opened, staff was waiting to give us a tour of the facility and deliver us to the concierge, who seamlessly checked us in to our room, which was ready hours early. Our luggage was waiting for us in our room. Which was amazing; we had suite 9, which overlooked the courtyard from a wall of windows and was roomy and quiet, but my dad, son, and niece all had rooms which were smaller but equally beautiful. The bridal couple had suite 18, which was just incredible, a huge living room and powder room with a lofted bedroom and full bath. Other guests also rave about their rooms and suites. One couple came with their toddler and newborn, and the hotel even provided -- unasked -- a bathtub for the baby and appropriate size robes for the kids. We were there for four nights, and consistently when we left our room for breakfast or tea or dinner, staff notified one another so that when we got back, any necessary housekeeping had been taken care of while we were out. It was amazing. The event planning staff was equally amazing. We felt as if we'd hired a wedding planner who was operating silently and efficiently in the background. The food, which was catered in-house by Magdalena, was excellent. We can't recommend it more highly. For a microwedding, with maybe 30 guests who all want to stay on property, this couldn't be a better choice. read more

As I continue my birthday season of celebration, I thoroughly enjoyed a couples massage and dinner at the Ivy. As we arrived, we were promptly greeted with complimentary valet parking and escorted inside to confirm our reservation. There was a slight mix up as we entered the Magdalena instead of the hotel lobby, but we were quickly escorted to an elevator to take us up to the spa. The spa entry is small and underwhelming, but everything to follow was quite lovely. As we waited for our therapist, we were offered water (still or sparkling) and after commenting on how wonderfully chilled the water was hot tea was offered to warm us up. After completing required paperwork, we met our therapist and they were friendly and welcoming. Once in the treatment room we received the most amazing 90 minute massages provided by Raquel and Damoni. After our massages we headed downstairs for dinner. Our server was great, this is definitely a special occasion restaurant but nothing felt obnoxious/uptight. We had delicious hand crafted cocktails and an amazing appetizer, homemade bread selection, steak, and pork chop. We had no room for dessert after finishing our meal but the selection looked heavenly. I highly recommend you treat yourself to a visit, whether spa, restaurant, or night at the hotel you can't go wrong here. This is a gem in the city that must be visited. My husband and I never had any doubt we would be married at The Ivy Hotel, and on June 15, 2022, we did it! We had an intimate wedding with 15 guests in their stunning courtyard. From the day I emailed Terry to the day after our wedding, we were thrilled with the experience. Terry was professional, attentive, courteous, knowledgeable, kind, and honest. Terry and Maureen had excellent communication working together, which made the entire process pain-free. The same is true with the rest of the Ivy Hotel staff; everyone was exceptional. The level of hospitality we experienced at this stunning boutique hotel was unmatched. From the valet who greets you by name to the welcome champagne to the elegant tea time in the afternoon, it was an outstanding luxurious experience. The Concierge/Guest Services team was professional, detailed, and well-organized. It always felt like they were at least 10 steps ahead of me, especially James (he was an absolute delight). Housekeeping was quick and precise! Theresa deserves an award for her excellence. She made it her job to ensure my husband and I enjoyed every moment at the hotel. Also, I would be remiss if I didn't shoutout the drivers who ensured the bride was calm and brought us to various locations on time and in style! Yes to staying at the rich auntie's house. That is exactly what this felt like to me. I'd been eyeing this place for a while and it's been on my list. And when the pandemic hit, we needed more local spots to explore. So, we finally found a few nights open during a time we were available and booked a couple of nights (psst...save your coins for this one). When we arrived, we were eventually greeted with champagne (and sparkling apple cider) and were strongly encouraged ;) to sit down for tea time before it was over. In the meantime, they would work to get us checked in. The tea time was cute and I loved it. Never missed a one during our stay. One of the highlights I really enjoyed was the car service. If you book ahead of time, car service will drive you anywhere you need or want to go within a certain radius. So, we were able to have car service for dinner two nights and an appointment we had. It does end around 9 or 10 so you may need to Uber back to the hotel. The driver was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast (included with your stay) was pretty good in the morning and was so quiet. Sometimes we were the only people down for breakfast and it created an intimate vibe looking out onto the garden. Overall, we had a great experience. Though a little pricey, I recommend staying at least once for a night. The service and hospitality here is top notch. read more

I stayed for one night in December as a birthday treat, and wish I would have stayed longer. The hotel is GORGEOUS- uniquely decorated in common areas and rooms. I stayed in room 16 which was a nice size. My bf says we have the most comfortable bed at home and hotel beds never compare- he couldnt say the same here. Super comfortable bedding.. loved that they had a little charcuterie and bottle of wine as a welcome (along with the welcome glass of champagne given in the lobby). Valet was complimentary and friendly (greeting me by name on the street-WOW!), and the hotel employee gave a little tour of the property and stressed that if there was ANYTHING they could do, they were a phone call away. Started with afternoon tea (provided in room due to covid restrictions)- the lapsang souchong was a delicious smokey blend and the snacks provided were all tasty. For dinner we ordered room service from Magdalena- a burger and a steak- both excellent. Enjoyed a couple rounds of pool while indulging in their self-serve bar which was well stocked and included mixers, cherries, olives, all the basics u need for a good drink. It felt like we had the place to ourselves- only encountered one other party the entire time. My spa treatment the next day was out of this world- the Bergamot and Champagne treatment.. Nicole was the sweetest soul and an expert at her craft- I had new skin at the end of it all! This review is for the spa. Spas are my favorite past time. I try to go to a spa at least twice a month. This time I went to The Ivy Hotel. I visited pre-pandemic and had an excellent experience so I didn't expect anything different this time. One of the things I love about The Ivy is their service. All spa service prices include gratuity and valet parking. As someone who isn't a skilled parallel parker, valet parking is a huge plus. Now to the massage. I wanted to try something different. I opted for the Uncle Nearest Hot Toddy Foot Ritual. This service was divine. It consisted of a foot soak, exfoliation, hot stone massage and mask. My husband and I ,along with another couple, celebrated Christmas Eve dinner at Magdelna this year (The restaurant at the Ivy hotel). It was a special treat and we were excited. I will start with the positives (because they are few) 1. Our server was friendly. 2. We were offered a tour of the hotel after our meal. The tour guide, Mr Calvin was an absolute delight. HARD STOP. Other than the company, there was nothing else enjoyable that night. My husband ordered the scallops which were inedible. He is not the kind of person to send food back, but it should have been. I ordered the short rib- it was fine but IMO over cooked. Also all of my sides - including mashed potatoes- were cold. But the worst part of the dinner was when the "after dinner drinks cart" was being bussed around and the server manning said cart kept ramming it into my chair. The cart was clearly too large to maneuver the room. So whomever had the idea to do this was at fault, but also the server manning the cart didn't stop to re-evaluate and pivot. I was required to get out of my seat and stand during our meal while the after dinner drinks were served to another table. In all transparency - the server *did * offer us a free drink as an apology but honestly, this is one of the worst dinners I've ever had. Poor service and sub-par food. My husband and I are lucky enough to have been able to afford and eat at some of the country's finest dining establishments (many with Michelin stars) and we enjoy being able to have a great meal, knowing that it could be expensive. My husband- as am I- is also a very generous tipper. But this meal was not worth the price tag and we will not be coming back. I am so disappointed. read more

THE BEST HOTEL EVER! This is the first time I've been to this hotel and I've loved every minute of it! If your ever in this are please choose this hotel! One of the best quality hotel that feels home-y.The service here was perfect. Everyone here was so friendly and always tried to make small conversation! Not only that but I was also given a bottle of wine for a gift. The breakfast package is something that you MUST get! The food at this hotel is amazing, especially the breakfast. There is so many options that you could choose from the menu and everything here is so good. Also one thing that I've really enjoyed was the coffee that you are served with comes with frosted milk which, is something I've never gotten before (usually I get a cup of cold milk). The room was so clean and nice. There was a fireplace in our room with real fire that warmed up the room so well. The fridge in our room was always filled as well with the bathroom. Every time we left the room we came back to a clean and tidy room! One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at! Beautiful rooms, wonderful service and attention to detail! We were greeted in the lobby by James and offered Champagne upon our arrival. He proceeded to tell us about the history of the hotel and showed us around the many well preserved rooms in the mansion. Our room had a bottle of champagne, cheese & crackers waiting for us and was extremely clean and pristine. My husband & I enjoyed the complimentary afternoon tea & the breakfasts. We stayed in Room 7 which was a gorgeous room with a living area, big bathroom and two fireplaces. Every staff member addressed us by name and was very friendly and helpful! 4 stars leaning toward 3.5 Hosted a milestone birthday overnight w friends. Had expectations based on suggestions of friends who stayed here before and other reviews. D at check in was welcoming although my bags were taken to the wrong suite. Wonderful history of the quaint historic hotel built in the 1800s and how it came to be owned by the Brown's. Beautiful, thoughtful and interesting decor. A tour by staff, when we asked, provided nice details we otherwise would not know. There was not really a welcome by anyone else as I anticipated. James was the concierge and was busy with guests before he said goodbye for the day during tea. Gary greeted us for tea service and it was pleasant with choice of teas and scones which were tasty and an unremarkable sandwich. After going to the suites and having a toast on the patio of suite 1, we took a ride in the hotel SUV to Fells Point. Driver great and likable (sorry can't recall your name). Dinner reservations at Magdalena that evening. Weather was beautiful and we ate out on the courtyard terrace. Tables nicely spread out. Anthony was our waiter and he was lighthearted and professional. Ordered an amazing watermelon and tomato gazpacho soup with jumbo lump crab meat; halibut w potatoes and scallops as entrees. The entree serving sizes were extremely modest. The piece of fish was about 3 ounces. Scallops were even less. Flavorful but not at all filling. A large cake had been made for me and brought in and given to staff to keep refrigerated. When asked for, staff could not find it and questioned whether my friend had actually brought it. She was understandably upset. It took them about 30 mins to find it and it was brought to the room out of the box in the open air which was not appropriate given that's not what was asked for and that we are in a pandemic. Suites are lovely. Beds comfy and bathtub divine. Breakfast the next morning was tasty. When I asked about check-out James said I was all set and shortly after called to ask for my card number because incidentals had not been included. I left a precious (to me) water bottle there and when I called about it James said they could mail it to me at my cost. Had I stayed at a hotel that cost less than $1500 a night per suite I might have expected to be told to pay for shipping. This felt a bit off-putting and the bottle is still there--unless it's been tossed. A nice enough experience that I do not feel moved to repeat. read more

All very strange. The Ivy Hotel advertises afternoon tea on its website, specifying that it is available "every afternoon" so we--two well-dressed late-middle-aged men--turn off I-95 to have some. But when we get to the hotel, although we can see people drinking tea through the windows, the doors are locked. Eventually a somewhat wild-looking security man appears. Might we be admitted to have tea? No, we might not. Did the hotel have a bar? Yes. Might we go to the bar? No, we might not. Might we simply be admitted to look around to see if we wanted to stay at the hotel when next in Baltimore? Nope! There were to be no "tours" that day. And so off we went, none the wiser. We can only admire the Ivy's attention to security in its highly "transitional" neighborhood, but we wonder rather about their business acumen! read more

Awwww, Ivy Hotel, again you have exceeded my expectations. Back to the hotel to celebrate my mother's birthday along with my cousin. We decided to make it a girls weekend trip. This time I retreated to this "Oasis of Lodging" during the winter which made the vibe different yet just as pleasurable. I was able to explore the hotel and ask more questions about its history and take advantage of staying in and relaxing (due to the frigid temperatures outside), without over planning things to do. In some ways, I found this winter excursion had more gems to offer. Arrival once again was with a pick up by the hotel's car service, a PLUS. A speedy and efficient check in by the concierge, Nita. She was a new face this time. What a lovely young lady who flawless professionalism, warm personality and impeccable customer service was endearing. This time my sojourn was in one of the several suites the hotel offers, Suite 3. In addition, James who was the day time concierge was a walking history buff. He provided a knowledgeable history of the hotel from how it got it's name, to the many owners, down to small obscure details that only lovers of history can make intriguing. Neighboring the elevator and a short walk to the spa on the 2nd floor, suite 3 had a perfect location. Upon entering the room you enter a small foyer which opens up into the sitting room with a comfy couch, chair, ottoman, and desk surrounded by a gas fireplace with a flat screen above it. This was a great area as we convened to enjoy snacks and the welcome complimentary tray of cheese, apricots, nuts and wine. The couch in the sitting area doubles as a pull out bed which was quite cozy. The bedroom area with 2 beds, built in closet and flat screen tv. Just past the bedroom is a spacious bathroom with separated shower, separated toilet and a standalone modern tub and 2 basins on opposing walls with magnificent lighting to make any girl look adorable. The highlights of returning to the hotel were seeing some familiar faces, like Anthony & Donnie who as par usual, were genuinely accommodating and made the experience a memorable one once again. The other was a welcomed surprise as the owner and his wife were in the hotel on our initial day and stopped by as we had tea and dinner just to welcome us and say Hello. What a personal touch and what sets this hotel apart from all other luxury hotels I have lodged. More over, this time my party of 3 used the spa services. I had an uber sensational and relaxing massage given by Yvonne and can't wait to return to request her again. The highest compliment to a massage therapist for me is to be in dreamland within 20 minutes and this time I believe it happened in 15. That shows total relaxation. Everything about The Ivy Hotel is like something from out of a storybook. Or maybe a dream? We'll go with storybook, because every corner of this hotel has a story to tell. Whether it's of historic significance or a matter or details, The Ivy Hotel is one of the most beautiful and unique hotels I've ever had the pleasure of touring. Touring? Yes, touring. I had dinner reservations at the restaurant and didn't even realize the hotel existed until I arrived (much too early and hours before my reservation.) I had some time to kill and work to do, so I spent some time enjoying the restaurant courtyard, when the awesome bartender alerted me that there was a free whiskey tasting taking place in a bit if I'd like go join. This gesture led me to an introduction to Emmanuel, who could tell by my curious nature was open to learning so much more about the restaurant and hotel. He then asked if I wanted a tour, which I enthusiastically accepted. While I was excited, I had no idea the kind of beauty and detail I would experience just above the restaurant. What I loved the most, was that every single room was different, in theme and style. So much attention has been paid to each accent and piece of furniture that I'm sure I could stay in each room for a significant time and still identify new elements and find new things to appreciate. Aside from aesthetics, I was also so impressed by the level of personalized service, and the effort made to have all guests feel like they are residing in a home, away from home. Whether it's the "open" bar, where you can fix yourself a cocktail in the common area, or breakfast in the morning, I can imagine how comfortable and cozy staying here would be. And while the the room prices reflect luxury (starting around $500 a night) I can see the value in a special occasion. Not only is this a one of kind experience, but valet was complimentary, the snacks/wine in the room are all inclusive, and you can enjoy a cocktail or two downstairs. All those things can really add up, so consider that in the price point as well. If I do have a special occasion in the future, I would definitely plan some time here. This review is actually for the Ivy Hotel Spa, which is open to those not staying at the hotel as well as guests. (There isn't a separate listing for it on Yelp.) My friend and I went for massages and both had a fantastic experience with our therapists. I have maybe had 150 massages, and my massage by Damany Vinson is one of the very best. He really understands how to give a deep tissue massage that is therapeutic AND relaxing -- and, yes, there is an art to that! It's fantastic that aromatherapy is included (as a lot of spas use this as an "upcharge" excuse). I didn't catch my friend's massage therapist (I'm sorry!) but she is very picky about her massages and her therapist got an A+, too. We appreciate that the therapists leave ample time to talk about what you want prior to the start of the service. It's also refreshing that the price of the massage includes a gratuity and there is a clear message that no additional gratuity is allowed. The spa is a smaller one but it's a gorgeous space. It's well decorated with beautiful windows with lots of natural light and gorgeous views of the hotel courtyard. There are some beverages and light snacks available to spa guests. The spa menu has a nice range of options, and the staff is all very customer service oriented. We also loved Veronica, who greeted us at the spa entrance, and it was such a treat to have her volunteer to give us a little tour of the hotel once we finished our spa services. She is very knowledgable about the property and a joy to talk with. We loved that we didn't feel rushed in any way. It's a beautiful, opulent boutique hotel with stunning architecture and decor. One of my bucket list items is to stay there as a guest and get another massage with Damany. We should warn other spa/hotel guests: this isn't a typical hotel or spa, because it's a boutique hotel. There isn't a "main entrance" with a big lobby or anything like that. You'll probably run into someone as you try to enter the building who will ask you how they can help you. It's a little strange at first, but just go with it and let the awesome customer service unfold. I debated writing this review because the experience was soooo amazing, I selfishly wanted to keep it to myself. The tipping point was that the staff were absolute perfection, and they deserve all the recognition. I cannot overemphasize how great the customer service was and that the stay was more than just a hotel, it was an experience. As soon as we arrived at the valet, we were greeted by name, bags carried away, entered the most aromatic entryway, escorted upstairs for a glass of champagne and given a tour of the (mostly) historic property. I fell in love with the conservatory room -simply gorgeous. Our room was great (so much attention to detail) and the bed was super comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. The self-serve bar was perfect and a nice place to meet and chat with other guests (if that's your thing). We are already planning our return in a few months. read more

I'm always looking to support Black businesses so when I heard about the Ivy Hotel I knew I'd eventually patronize. When I started planning a romantic staycation for my husband and I, I immediately thought of this hotel. They had a package for a night's stay plus a sunset cruise so I booked it. When I called to book, the computer was down so I was told my card would be charged the next day and I'd receive my confirmation once it was charged. My card wasn't charged for 2 days and I never received my confirmation. I called the Monday before our reservation to confirm and was met with apologies and they emailed the confirmation at that point. The sunset cruise included a lunch which I was supposed to be able to choose but I was told it would be a chef's selection but she ensured me our allergies were confirmed to the chef. This was a bit upsetting because considering the price we should've been able to choose our menu. When we pulled up the valet took our luggage and car and we were greeted by a gentleman on the concierge team. He took us to the 1st floor where we met a lady from the concierge team. She gave us a glass of champagne, told us the history of the house and gave a tour of the main floor. The decor is stunning and pristine and all 3 of those individuals were extremely friendly and welcoming. We checked in,they reconfirmed our allergies and we went to our room (room 10). The room was spacious and gorgeous! My husband tried out some of the snacks and we relaxed a bit. The bathroom has a separate tub and shower. My husband is 6' so the tub was a little small for him. The shower has a rainfall shower head which he loved and the bathroom has a double vanity which I could appreciate. The bed was like laying in heaven. The house car took us to the pier for our sunset cruise. This was the part of our stay that was a bit disappointing. We met the skipper at the end of the pier and he took us to his boat. I rented a small yacht for my husband's birthday last year so I was expecting something like that or a small sail boat. Instead we had a small house boat. The skipper put 2 seats at the front for us to sit. The chef's selection lunch left a lot to be desired. The hotel may be black owned but the restaurant definitely is not black run. They gave us bland potato salad, 2 sandwiches ( smoked salmon and watercress and a BLT-we only ate the BLT), 2 peaches, 2 lemon desserts and an hierloom tomato and burrata salad that had cucumbers mixed all in it (I'm allergic to cucumbers). The skipper offered us wine,beer or canned cocktails (all were kind of warm). He sailed around one side of the harbor. I thought we'd be sailing around the lively part of the harbor or further out but we just stayed on the one side. The scenery was horrible but being on the water was nice. The water got a little choppy at one point but other than that it was pretty relaxing and the skipper was super friendly. The house car picked us up promptly. When he asked how it was my husband mentioned the cucumbers. When we got back to the room it was about 9pm and my husband called to order some french fries. They said they'd try since the kitchen was closing up. The lady from concierge came up about 10 minutes later with the fries. She apologized immensely for the cucumbers (the driver must've told her) and she said she'd comp the fries. In the morning we went down for breakfast. They ask for the time you want to go the night before to keep the restaurant from being too crowded at one time. Our waitress, Nicki, was excellent and the breakfast was beyond delicious. I had to deduct 1 star because of what happened after breakfast. As we passed the concierge desk the gentleman, James, asked us what time we wanted our car to be available and if we needed help with our luggage. All pretty standard but then he brings up the cucumbers from the night before and says there was no mix up and no cucumbers were in the salad. He claimed they were apples. One- I know the difference between a cucumber and an apple. Two- my husband ate them and confirmed they were cucumbers. Three- we didn't make a formal complaint or ask for anything so at this point why are you bringing it up again??? It irritated the hell out of me. When I told James for the THIRD time they were definitely cucumbers he said,"Well the chef said he definitely didn't put them in there but I guess he was wrong" and it came off very condescending. The woman last night handled it. He should've left it at that and not said anything. It just left a sour impression on our way out the door. All in all, the Ivy Hotel is very nice. If I had to do it again I would've just booked the room and had the house car take us to a nice restaurant instead of the sunset cruise. I most likely would not stay here again though. read more

Simply the most fantastic and elegant boutique hotel we have visited in some time! It's a historic, visual masterpiece with eye candy all around. Each room has its own special charm, no short of detail. The staff is incredibly hospitable, helpful and friendly. As a 'no-tip' property, it is pleasant to not always have that awkward moment after every bit of service. The food was wonderful as well, we hosted a lunch for an event during our stay...service and food were another highlight during our stay. Rooms are intimate, well-maintained and just fantastic. The bar is open for use, they will make you a cocktail if you wish. Afternoon tea is a delight! Wow wow wow. If you are a design freak and appreciate exemplary service, this is your sweet spot in Baltimore. My family agreed, we would revisit Baltimore just to stay at the ivy! read more

I'm so sad to write this review because I really wanted to go to the Ivy. Read all the reviews, and planned to be there for my birthday, but the customer service has been extremely frustrating and not aligned with what I've read online. I really hope management sees this review and responds because Im extremely disappointed and now Im scrambling to make birthday plans since I've received such poor service. We were given the wrong information initially, made plans to be there and when we called to confirm a reservation, we were told we could not get the package we asked about. My partner called a couple of times and left voicemail messages because his initial phone calls were not returned. When we did speak with a manager he told us that even though the employee gave us the wrong information, he could not honor the package we wanted. Another package would be available and he would call us with the new information. He didn't call. We called back a week later, but they still didn't know what the new package would be and we were supposed to get a call 48 later. That didn't happen either. Needless to say, I'm done, now having to make new plans less than 2 weeks before my birthday. Both my partner and I are business owners and know that this is not how you treat customers. My Mom and I went to the hotels restaurant for dinner and on our way out I wanted to check out the hotel. We were greeted by the head of security Chris, who was absolutely delightful. He ended up taking us on a tour of the hotel which is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! I studied Interior Design at UM and the attention to detail that was put into the refurbishment, while integrating original materials/architecture with modern pieces was EXQUISITE! We ran into some of the other staff on property who were kind and welcoming and I will absolutely be spending my next staycation at this hotel... This is Baltimore's Most Opulent Experience! HANDS DOWN! What I wanted was an enjoyable evening for my partner's birthday. What I got was BLOWN AWAY! I should've known the moment concierge called a few days before our visit, inquiring about the vehicle I would be driving, our dietary needs and my partner's name, that this was not a run of the mill hotel boutique. And still I had no idea what I was about to receive. The moment you pull up to The Ivy you are greeted by your name. Afterwards you are escorted into this magnificent building which at the onset causes you to feel like nothing but royalty. All we were missing were crowns! Once inside you are shown the property, which is breathtaking. I have no idea how they managed to infuse the Roman era, American Government, Modern Décor and Britain into one but I be damned if they didn't do just that! This place is beautiful and you find yourself wanting to imagine that this is your life. Let's talk about the SERVICE! With each employee being handpicked based on their professionalism, friendliness and attentiveness, you will definitely feel that within this piece of heaven that you have truly met the most pleasant people on planet earth. They care for everything, you hear me? My partner was greeted with Happy Birthday at every turn and even serenaded by piano with the traditional birthday song. This black-owned, luxury boutique property in Baltimore has earned rave reviews from Conde Naste, USA Today, and American Way magazine, among others. Rumor has it that Beyonce and Jay-Z stay at The Ivy when they're in town, so you know it has to be fabulous. Just how fab? After spending a weekend there for a short getaway, I can honestly say it is THAT fabulous. Built in 1889, the eighteen room property has been restored to perfection. The inviting common areas and guest rooms appear to whisper to you about their history. The property itself can only be described as lush. Every room is filled with stunning art purchased at private auctions and truly thoughtful touches like comfy chairs, perfect for reading, placed in the spots with the best lighting or close to the fireplace, while other areas are designed for playing poker or cards. Each guest room is unique, but know that equally as thoughtful and inviting elements await you in each room. Besides the fact that the property is truly stunning and exceptionally designed, one big question remains: with base prices at around $650 a night, is it worth it? I had reservations for September 17-19 2021. I called to make dinner reservations for Friday night.I was put on hold the person came back and said some one will call me back. I received a call back and the person said I only have reservations for Friday night. I said..how is that I have a confirmation number and email. she told me it was a computer glitch I was sooo upset. The level of hospitality we experienced at this place was unmatched. From the valet who greets you by name, and the warmest most inviting champagne welcome and tour from Teresa. You feel like you have just arrived home. The concierge was busy checking in other guests, so Teresa promptly set us up in the library for a work meeting and Kyle set us up for tea. We arrived during the last 1/2 hour of teatime, but we were never made to feel rushed. We were instantly transported to The Ivy Experience without us realizing it. After about an hour or so, I went to check-in while my sister finished her meeting. I sat at the desk and greeted James, he responds, "Hi, but I don't know who you are." Slightly off-putting, but I didn't read too much into it, because soon after he pursed his lips, Teresa appeared to inform him. James goes over amenities and our itinerary, reviews our spa reservation, 1pm the following afternoon. He reminds me checkout is at 11am, and informed me that late checkout was not an option because our room was booked. He said he would let us know if anything changed, but based on his delivery, I took that as a futile promise. Now, when we booked the spa prior to arrival we were informed that late checkout is typically offered, but I understand that things are not absolute, so I was only minimally disappointed. James goes on to explain that we can enjoy the common areas for the 2 hours between checkout and the spa. We finally make it to our uniquely designed room, and we love it! While we are raiding the snack bar like 8-year-olds, we get a craving for potato chips. LOL! We call to see if there are any available, they first offer to cook us some chips. We promptly decline, we were not trying to be fussy. Long story short, they arrive to the door about 5 mins later with a generous-sized bag a kettle cooked chips. Aaaahhh...The Ivy Experience. Dinner was great, service is stellar, cocktails packed a punch and the ambiance was beautiful in the courtyard at night. After dinner we head to the bar room where a crowd of guests have already begun to gather. The guests we encountered during our stay only enhanced our experience, everyone was so welcoming. It's hard to be any other way in The Ivy. Breakfast was awesome. Amanda took great care of us. She made excellent recommendations, when we were torn between selections, she brought both. Our water glass was hardly ever below the rim. I asked for coffee, she reminded me they had lattes...I went with the latter. The food, the service, and again, the courtyard in the early morning was EVERYTHING. After breakfast, we return to our room to gather our belongings. James takes our bags for holding as we wait for the spa. The wait wasn't too bad, we sat in the living area for those 2 hours. But here's where we have our first official sour moment at The Ivy. While waiting in the common area, the bar is being prepped. They finish setup about 12:30ish, so we have roughly about 15mins left. We walk to the bar to make a little cocktail before the spa. James appears from nowhere, hands clasped, lips pursed, "May I assist you with something?" I'm slightly taken aback by the offer, because up until this point James has not offered to assist us with anything. Has not offered water or anything else. I look at him with a slightly confused face, he goes on to say, "Amenities end at 11, with checkout." I respond, "Oh, I did not realize that since we've been waiting here to patronize the spa. That's fine, am I able to purchase a cocktail?" We finish making our cocktails, I walk over to settle the tab. He says it will be added to the spa bill. See how easy that was, James? My issue with James is not what he said, it's how he said it and then his failure to offer an alternative. He said NOTHING for 2 hours and the first time he engages is to check our behavior, wrapped in a false offer of assistance. Teresa would never. Amanda would never. Kyle would never. So thankful that Damani (sp) came shortly after to rescue us. He escorts us to the spa and all the bad energy instantly melts away. When I tell you that spa exudes good vibes, love, care, concern. That team spoke light and love and cared for our bodies in a way that made us want to stay. It was such an enriching spa experience; it was just so much love in that space. I cannot describe it, it felt like family. If not for James, this would be a 5-star rating. Do not get me wrong, James was not explicitly rude, his service was not bad. James would be a shining star at a Marriott of sorts, but he did not add to The Ivy Experience. Oh...how thankful were we that our last impression was the spa. We will definitely return. Quarterly retreats to The Ivy would be ideal, but we may revisit the spa a little more frequently. read more
