Perfectly named as majority of the items are sewn "Nui" and if I truly had that skill my closet would look just like this shop as each item are so crafted with whimsical fun and with purpose. Located right on South King Street across the Honey Ham Store just before Prince Kunio Elementary School so it is basically street metered parking and I was SO lucky to have secured on right in front of the shop. Entering you need to ring the doorbell and a staff will let you in. With the assortment of merchandise they have it's so well organized and just so easy to browse. I fell in love with so many items and so many totes I was really difficult to focus on my retail therapy but did manage to find a few items that are very practical yet so cute! The creativity and skill these artists have are amazing there was a jacket that had jeans belt loop as a collar...genius! It started in 1979 as Elaine Sumako Kawahara Costello enjoyed nice clothes and made her own, and she loved recycling old kimonos and obi fabrics to create new garments. Daughter Lue Costello spent her childhood years going through pattern books with her mom and learned firsthand how to design, cut, and farm out the sewing. It became a mom-and-daughter operation as a clothing and gift shop with an ethnic flair. The name "Nui Mono" was chosen. It's a Japanese term, with "Nui" meaning to sew or stitch, and "Mono" meaning an object or thing; hence, anything that Is stitch or sewn, such as clothing or handbags. Mom passed away in 2012, and Lue took over the helm and continues to manage the store and legacy left by her mom. In my travels of Japan, I've gained interest in Japanese handcrafts and textiles and have been fortunate to participate in craft classes. Japanese craftsmanship is known for its meticulous attention to detail and the refinement of techniques passed down through generations. Crafted items were often designed to last, with a focus on quality and the ability to be repaired and cherished for generations. The Japanese concept finds beauty in imperfection and embraces things that are simple and aged (wabi sabi). I was so excited to learn that Nui Mono existed as a Honolulu-based store with the same philosophy of meaningful Japanese handcrafts. There are many skillful and talented local individuals willing to share their beautiful handcrafted items that are of the same quality as found in Japan. Lue usually holds down the fort in the small store and are often assisted by other artists, especially if there is a pop-up sale. Lue and staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in finding the right outfit for you. The small store is clean, bright, and filled with handcrafted items on racks, walls, and ledges. There are lots of clothing, jewelry, bags, dishcloths, greeting cards, novelty items, hot dish holders, mugs, and more. Every single space in the store has an item that is available for sale. The many items are artfully displayed. Hours of operation are Tues to Fri 10a to 4p, Sat 10a to 3p, and Sun/Mon closed. Located across from the Hawaiian Human Society, there is free parking behind the store, which is shared with other businesses of the complex. Metered street parking is available fronting the store. I'm ecstatic that Nui Mono offers the same high-quality Asian fabrics and accessories as found in Japan. Shopping in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii…read more.. Lexbreezy had a super long line of customers at the Made In Hawaii Festival a few months ago. I've seen the Instagram posts of their clothing, but never had a chance to look upclose at the styles and fabrics. We were going to lunch in Kailua - next door at the new Oh My Grill - and noticed that Lexbreezy is right here! Wow! With free parking, it's so easy to stop by after a meal. Unfortunately, we took too long to eat and Lexbreezy was closed. I drove back to Kailua and got a chance to look around the cute shop! I liked the prints, but didn't care for the styles. For example, rompers are too inconvenient for me to wear. I'll stop by in a few months and check the merchandise. Maybe new items will come out for the holidays... I noticed a dressing room - it will come in handy since there might not be any returns/exchanges accepted.

Sold here are just two kinds of wardrobe necessities: (1) Purses of all types that are more unusual to find that at the same time are fancy and or somehow unique, and (2) Delicate, sometimes intricate, higher-end, fashionable and fashion jewelry sometimes not but often made of sterling silver that also but not always tend to have a Hawaiian Island vibe. I don't mind the island vibe. I'm here for the European-look pieces. When this store is open (meaning that it's not boarded up secured for the day), walk around the perimeter to look in through the glass windows and showcase "walls". When you find what you want, go to the opened end of the kiosk to inform the salesperson what you'd like to see and the willing salesperson will retrieve it for you to inspect. Amazingly they have perfected warehouse inventory as not only is this kiosk small yet impactful but makes for really quick shopping. If you've not got a lot of time, this kind of kiosk shopping is really efficient. They'll put your items in boxes and or ziplock sleeves and a cute brown paper or floral bag, oh and hey, don't forget to ask for that gift receipt if ya need one! It was here I got my favorite pair of dangly sterling silver earrings. Quite pricey at the time but let me tell you about the joy I feel whenever I've got them on. It took me some time to realize I liked them and get over the price when first seeing them, and by the time I realized I'd been thinking about them non-stop, it was already too late to get a matching necklace. Drats! Please learn from my painful lesson :( and get what you see when you find something here that you love! :) Most things sold here are limited quantity and also all sales final. Like any other place it can be hit or miss according to your taste vs. what the shop owner finds thru what her resource jewelry- and purse-makers envision but because you'll never know what you'll find, be prepared for that moment when you fall in love with something pretty, unique, gorgeous, or downright smashing! Located right in the middle of Kahala Mall across from Apple between Compleat Kitchen and Banana Republic, in the main connecting walkway no matter from which entrance you enter the mall :) They operate same hours as the mall, usually until 9pm, or later if it's Christmastime. With this quick and easy unique-finds shopping experience, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this becomes your go-to place for pretty jewelry and purse finds, too!
