It has sentimental value , so i decided to reupholster all 6 chairs. Pono couldn't match the fabric but searched and found something that was very close. He came and repaired all six chairs at a very reasonable price. We had a little bit of communication difficulty in the beginning, but that was speedily resolved. I am so glad that he took the job as others refused to come to our house to pick up the chairs....we would have had to drop them off at their repair shop. The chairs came out beautifully and I am happy with the job, well done.

Unfortunately, the company it was purchased from was no longer in business. I didn't know who to call so I decided to check Yelp by inputting "futon sofa frame repair" and clicked on get estimates. To my surprise I got 5 responses all saying that my frame was repairable which made me quite happy. All had different suggestions based on the pictures I posted in my request. I selected The Leather Doctor Hawai'i because not only could he fix the frame but he could also fix our dining room chairs. He even had connection for getting the backing of our sofa cover and pillows replaced. I definitely made the right choice. A couple days later Pono came to the house to look at the "damage". He said it was definitely repairable. He would glue the original piece together, add a bracket behind it AND put in another "leg" for added support matching the color to the original as much as he could. Looking at our dining chairs he said just the webbing needed replacement as the set was also over 20 years old. The covers were fine. I was very pleased with his honesty as my husband and I thought we needed new cushions, etc. He left saying Thea, his assistant, would be sending me an estimate. The estimate came a few hours later. The best thing about all of this was that we didn't need to scramble to try to rent a truck to bring the items to him as neither we nor our friends own one. Everything would be completed on site. That was definitely a PLUS! Once I agreed to his estimate, Thea called for scheduling. Pono arrived promptly. Very courteous, friendly and respectful. He explained each step he worked. I was impressed that he notched the wood so that the board could easily rest in. It was centered and the tops of both boards matched. It looked like it was meant to be there. While the leg paint dried, Pono worked on our cushions. Again explanations were given as he replaced the webbings. The chairs now are comfortable to sit on and we no longer feel like we're "sinking." My family and I couldn't be happier with the results of his 5 hours of work. When the work was completed Pono cleaned after himself and took our sofa and pillow covers for repairing. Thank you, Pono. And one of the coolest things (and I've never seen this before) they will professionally sew one of their vintage patches to their cool jackets or even embroider them, making each piece so personal and one of a kind. They were covered in leather that was cracked and split along the seams. I took them in for a consult and John's was very honest in suggesting several options. In the end, I chose a high quality vinyl with new padding. The cost was very reasonable (less than $100/stool) and the job was completed in a little over a week. These beautiful stools have been rejuvenated thanks to John's.
