A small building that serves some of the best Poke bowls I've ever had!! The fish was fresh, the vegetables were crisp, and the seasonings and sauces were well balanced. Also ordered the Sesame Balls, and they were piping hot! An absolute treat for someone who loves both sesame seeds and red bean paste. There's also a nice selection of Ramune to choose from, as well as a desert or two that I have yet to try, but certainly will once I go back. Finally a good poke spot in the area. I had the sushi poke bowl. The tuna was delicious, tender, and a beautiful deep red color the way it should be. Not like those subway style build your own bowl places with tiny tough pink cubes. The poke sauce is delicious and they'll make it spicy for you if you want. I frequently pick up from Ume whenever I'm in the area and need a quick, reasonably priced meal that it always delicious. Typically when I pick up, my food is ready when I arrive. Today, I arrived and paid, but they hadn't yet started preparing my poke bowl until I was rung up . No problem I could wait! I stood there and watched as the man behind the counter, who I believe might be one of the owners, began preparing my meal with one gloved hand (not the most protective, but at least the hand touching the food was gloved). I looked around and noticed that the counter and kitchen are all enclosed in plexiglass (which gives the impression of safety for COVID). However, the man behind the counter and the 3 guys standing around playing on their cell phones in the kitchen area, were all not wearing masks! While this man continued prepping my meal, I noticed that he dropped a knife on the floor. Instead of putting it in a sink to wash maybe, he placed the knife right back on the counter to use again. The phone rang and the prepping was interrupted by orders that needed to be taken. The man used his gloved hand to not only hold the phone, but also punch in the order on the computer screen. I assumed he would change his glove before he returned to work on my meal, especially since I was standing there watching all of this transpire. Never assume they say, because after hanging up, he proceeded to reach into one of the containers of food to start again (the same gloved hand that had touched both the phone and computer screen in my presence and who knows what else not in my presence). I quickly asked if he was going to change his glove before he touched food again and reminded that I had just seen him touch several other things. He seemed unfazed, but said sure and searched under the counter for more gloves (searched since it was obvious this wasn't an automatic thought for him to assure a level of cleanliness by changing his glove frequently). As I was finally getting ready to leave, a child suddenly appeared from under the counter and bagged my order. She as well, was not wearing a mask. This would total 5 people behind the counter, within very close quarters preparing food without masks and in a non sanitary manner! I hate to have to complain, but in times like this when we are in the midst of a pandemic especially, this type of behavior is not acceptable! I have personally avoided all in-person dining since COVID started, preferring instead to occasionally pick up take-out. I really hope they catch the hint and change what they're doing. Even without COVID happening, these conditions are not acceptable for a food establishment handling raw fish! I myself, will unfortunately not be returning any time soon. read more

We had the Hawaiian Poke bowl and the Ume classic bowl. Both were fresh and delicious. We sat on the deck and our order was brought out to us by a lovely, smiling woman who asked if it was our first time. She later brought us more napkins and asked if we needed anything else. This was so epic. The place is super nice and clean inside. Greeted immediately. I tried the hibachi chicken and it was delicious. The veggies were perfectly cooked. It also comes with good fried rice. The chicken was a much better quality than expected and fantastic portion. I also had the miso soup for only $1 extra and loved it. In addition I had to try the standard poke bowl which blew me away. I had them add extra spice too. The freshness of the fish, all the ingredients and ginger dressing they give you were perfect. My wife and I have been craving some excellent Asian food. Kata and Sake are a rollercoaster of consistency so we stopped ordering from both and we have had similar issues with Shandong. We have been wanting to try Ume for quite some time as they are located across from our daughters dance classes at artistry in motion. We had actually both read the one negative review about the employees not wearing masks and right away we knew we wanted to support these people. First off, the restaurant is so clean, it is spotless. The kind gentleman who took our order at the counter welcomed me with a very warm and friendly smile. He also had a America hat which I complimented him on, as this is the best country this world has ever known. They did not have masks on, which I applaud as masks have proven not to stop the spread, for if they truly worked why have they not worked in states like California or NY? Either way, the food was fresh and incredible. So proud to have this lovely family here in Vero Beach making excellent Asian cuisine. The 3 of us are vegetarians and had not tried Ume Grill prior to today. There is a tofu hibachi and a tofu teriyaki--either with rice or noodles. We had one of each. And we ordered the spring rolls as they are vegetarian. Today's special was a pumpkin croquette; they also had a bean paste sesame roll. The verdict: DELICIOUS! Everything was perfectly cooked and spiced. The staff is very conscientious about cleanliness, friendliness, and helpfulness.
