Ume Tea is located in an area that I normally don't go to, but I was curious enough after seeing it a couple of times on social media that I had decided to go anyway. There is ample amount of parking and the interior of the restaurant is just adorable - I had never seen so much pink in one place. The aesthetic of the place is top notch, and it's certainly helpful to I decided to order the Lychee and Watermelon Green Tea, as it was one of the popular items listed. The service was a bit faster than I had expected, though it was not too crowded so I don't know how much that really says. The drink itself was refreshing with the exception of one minor thing - the lychee bits at the very bottom have an uncomfortable texture. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but it was annoying to sip through and made what was otherwise a relatively pleasant drink a less satisfying experience. Despite this, I wouldn't mind trying to return again. I have hope that one of the other drinks will be more to my liking, and I accept responsibility that my less-than-stellar experience was partially my own fault for not doing enough research beforehand. read more

And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of... the pink decor. Ume Tea is a chain of bubble tea shops that has had particularly rave reviews for this location in its ~4 months of operation. It's my friend's current fave, so I had to make a quick stop after dinner. It's super pink inside, and they appear to have a cartoon bunny mascot in their wall art and merch. You can order via cashier or kiosk, and they'll call your name once your order is ready. I ordered one of my friends' recommendations, the Strawberry Matcha Latte ($5.95) with oat milk ($0.80) and a size upgrade ($1.00). As she promised, it was topped with a scoop of matcha ice cream, which made my dairy avoidance a bit pointless, aside from how cold the evening temperature is. Anyway, the drink is damn good. Even though the sweetness couldn't be adjusted down, it's not super high. The creaminess is on point, and the ice cream surely helped in that regard. The matcha is plentiful, and the strawberry does make itself known with flavor and seeds. It was great once everything blended together, which was tough at first in the tall cup with the even taller straw. I saw a text later that night from Ume Tea offering a free "Must Try" drink and went back the following day, The most interesting of the 17 options at the time was the Brown Sugar Boba Oolong Milk Tea ($5.95). It did provide plenty of oolong flavor, a good level of creaminess, and consistent boba that was the right medium between soft and chewy. The 50% sweetness was just right for me, while the light ice didn't feel that light. I'll have to try more of Ume Tea's offerings, at least from this specific shop. That strawberry matcha latte is the best version I've had yet. I get the impression that they carry a smaller and pretty specialized menu because they believe in each and every recipe, so hopefully I can try more on this and future trips to San Jose. read more

Super cute store and really good drink options! I really like the brown sugar milk tea with boba and mochi. The mochi was an interesting topping that I really liked as it's a smooth kind that's in between liquid and solid. I would be a little careful and eat it a little at a time so you don't choke. I also got the Oreo Creme Brulee Oolong Milk Tea here which was a recommended drink from the person at the front counter. From the ambiance to the service and the products, everything was great! Jason was super patient and helpful. Excellent customer service! We ordered popcorn chicken, two brûlée Thai teas and an Oreo brûlée. The seasoning on the chicken was great and the portion good. The drinks were like desserts. I hate writing 1 star reviews, but sometimes it needs to happen because it can help a business grow. Anyways, my girl ordered the bogo deal and got a bunch of stuff. When she picked it up while I was waiting for her, she told me she had to wait a long time after pick up time. We got the mango yogurt, peach oolong milk tea and popcorn chicken with sour plum flavor. I've had the peach oolong milk tea at another location and it tasted the same, but they added a cookie in my drink here! First time trying the popcorn chicken and they fried it really well. It was not overly breaded and the chicken was still hot and juicy. The sour plum flavor was interesting, but in a good way. It wasn't overtly sour or overpowering but just added a different flavor than usual popcorn chicken. The store was brightly lit and clean. So glad there's a Ume local to the Almaden area now. I got to try them out both during their soft opening and their grand opening. What stood out to me was the service first of all. Super nice and friendly. I found out they were soft opening via Yelp and thought to stop by. Not too crowded, and service was quick. I got my usual favorite from Ume which was the mango pomelo sago. I was happy I was able to customize the sweetness, and appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet! Plus, they were willing to accept our personal cups. And the drink held up nicely on Day 2; it still had a thick creaminess to it. Upon grand opening, I just happened to be in the area around 11:45am on Saturday and thought I'd stop by again. Not totally realizing they were open at 12 noon, there was a long line already, but not long enough to deter me. While it did move somewhat quickly, it still took a while to get through the line, and by the time I left (around 12:25pm), the line was still just as long. But the nice thing was, they were giving away small freebees and samples. I got a cute balloon, and tried their signature milk tea 50% sweet (delish and refreshing), plus some popcorn chicken during the wait. Ended up ordering their black milk tea with taro and boba. Boba quality was great, the taro tasted authentic, though maybe could have had a bit more, and the milk tea itself had a reasonable amount of sweetness (again, at 50%). I've been a loyal Ume Tea customer and have ordered from this location multiple times, but after a recent experience, I will be taking a break from ordering here. Many of their drinks come with toppings, and if you want them removed, you have to call directly. I called six times before someone finally answered so I could request a topping removal for one of my DoorDash drinks. The staff member told me it couldn't be done because the drink had already been made which I completely understood, since I should have called before placing the order. That part was on me. I then asked if they could consider enabling the notes/request box so customers could submit instructions in the future. The employee said that was up to DoorDash but they'd mention it to their boss, which I appreciated. What I did not appreciate, however, was how the conversation ended. The worker cut me off mid-sentence, mockingly said "thank you, byeeeeee," and hung up before I could finish speaking. I only called because my daughter loves one specific drink, but the jelly in it is a choking hazard so this wasn't just a casual preference. Being dismissed like that felt disrespectful. When my order arrived, it looked like they had removed the topping after all, which I truly appreciated. Unfortunately, it also seemed like other parts of my order were done carelessly or even spitefully, my drink was missing mochi, and my calamari came plain instead of spicy, despite my request. Altogether, it left me disappointed and frustrated. I realize one less customer may not matter to the store, but it should matter that every customer feels valued. When people are spending nearly $40 on an order, they deserve both quality and courtesy. Until the service improves, I won't be returning. read more

This is my go-to boba place in the Blossom Valley area! I love stopping by here after the Almaden Barnes & Noble plaza. Every time I have gone here I have received quick and good service. I love the decorations and merch in this Ume Tea. They are so cute, and I always have to restrain myself from impulse buying them. There are also a few tables with seating. Also, they have a huge bunny and great wall decor for taking photos! My favorite drink at Ume Tea is the creme Brule Thai tea! The size of the drink is very good, and the sweetness is perfect for my sweet tooth. I've also gotten the Halloween special drink here. It did not disappoint. I stopped by a couple months ago and remember loving it. I ordered online for pickup which was super quick and easy. The inside of the cafe is super pink and they have some cute merchandise available to purchase. My friend and I tried: - Thai Frosé, 30% sweet (which was recommended) with honey boba - really really good, surprisingly sweet even at 30% so I'd say it tasted more like 75%. I think this was seasonal but I hope it comes back. - Passionfruit Green tea, 70% sweet, with boba and lychee jelly - this was also a nice sweetness and had a good balance between the passionfruit and tea flavors. I must of had a bad experience when we first tried this place, because Ume Tea has since become one of our go-to spots. The mochi topping is still very soft and goopy, but it has grown on me. I also love the taro topping here, and I think this place is what started my current obsession with taro, ha. The popcorn chicken here is great.
